¹⁶ From the ends of the earth we have heard praises, the glory of the just one. And I said: My secret to myself, my secret to myself, woe is me: the prevaricators have prevaricated, and with the prevarication of transgressors they have prevaricated.

¹¹ Who is like to thee, among the strong, O Lord? who is like to thee, glorious in holiness, terrible and praise-worthy, doing wonders?

⁸ Ask of me, and I will give thee the Gentiles for thy inheritance, and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession.

¹ Give glory to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. ² Let them say so that have been redeemed by the Lord, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy: and gathered out of the countries. ³ From the rising and from the setting of the sun, from the north and from the sea. ⁴ They wandered in a wilderness, in a place without water: they found not the way of a city for their habitation. ⁵ They were hungry and thirsty: their soul fainted in them. ⁶ And they cried to the Lord in their tribulation: and he delivered them out of their distresses. ⁷ And he led them into the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. ⁸ Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him: and his wonderful works to the children of men. ⁹ For he hath satisfied the empty soul, and hath filled the hungry soul with good things. ¹⁰ Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death: bound in want and in iron. ¹¹ Because they had exasperated the words of God: and provoked the counsel of the most High: ¹² And their heart was humbled with labours: they were weakened, and there was none to help them. ¹³ Then they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he delivered them out of their distresses. ¹⁴ And he brought them out of darkness, and the shadow of death; and broke their bonds in sunder. ¹⁵ Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him, and his wonderful works to the children of men. ¹⁶ Because he hath broken gates of brass, and burst iron bars. ¹⁷ He took them out of the way of their iniquity: for they were brought low for their injustices. ¹⁸ Their soul abhorred all manner of meat: and they drew nigh even to the gates of death. ¹⁹ And they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he delivered them out of their distresses. ²⁰ He sent his word, and healed them: and delivered them from their destructions. ²¹ Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him: and his wonderful works to the children of men. ²² And let them sacrifice the sacrifice of praise: and declare his works with joy. ²³ They that go down to the sea in ships, doing business in the great waters: ²⁴ These have seen the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. ²⁵ He said the word, and there arose a storm of wind: and the waves thereof were lifted up. ²⁶ They mount up to the heavens, and they go down to the depths: their soul pined away with evils. ²⁷ They were troubled, and reeled like a drunken man; and all their wisdom was swallowed up. ²⁸ And they cried to the Lord in their affliction: and he brought them out of their distresses. ²⁹ And he turned the storm into a breeze: and its waves were still. ³⁰ And they rejoiced because they were still: and he brought them to the haven which they wished for. ³¹ Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him, and his wonderful works to the children of men. ³² And let them exalt him in the church of the people: and praise him in the chair of the ancients. ³³ He hath turned rivers into a wilderness: and the sources of waters into dry ground: ³⁴ A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. ³⁵ He hath turned a wilderness into pools of waters, and a dry land into water springs. ³⁶ And hath placed there the hungry; and they made a city for their habitation. ³⁷ Anti they sowed fields, and planted vineyards: and they yielded fruit of birth. ³⁸ And he blessed them, and they were multiplied exceedingly: and their cattle he suffered not to decrease. ³⁹ Then they were brought to be few: and they were afflicted through the trouble of evils and sorrow. ⁴⁰ Contempt was poured forth upon their princes: and he caused them to wander where there was no passing, and out of the way. ⁴¹ And he helped the poor out of poverty: and made him families like a flock of sheep. ⁴² The just shall see, and shall rejoice, and all iniquity shall stop her mouth. ⁴³ Who is wise, and will keep these things; and will understand the mercies of the Lord?

¹⁶ Therefore the sovereign Lord, the Lord of hosts, shall send leanness among his fat ones: and under his glory shall be kindled a burning, as it were the burning of a fire.

⁴ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall grow lean.

² A grievous vision is told me: he that is unfaithful dealeth unfaithfully: and he that is a spoiler, spoileth. Go up, O Elam, besiege, O Mede: I have made all the mourning thereof to cease.

¹⁵ Thou hast been favourable to the nation, O Lord, thou hast been favourable to the nation: art thou glorified? thou hast removed all the ends of the earth far off.

⁵ In that day the Lord of hosts shall be a crown of glory, and a garland of joy to the residue of his people:

¹ Woe to thee that spoilest, shalt not thou thyself also be spoiled? and thou that despisest, shalt not thyself also be despised? when thou shalt have made an end of spoiling, thou shalt be spoiled: when being wearied thou shalt cease to despise, thou shalt be despised.

²² Be converted to me, and you shall be saved, all ye ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is no other. ²³ I have sworn by myself, the word of justice shall go out of my mouth, and shall not return: ^(45:24) For every knee shall be bowed to me, and every tongue shall swear. ^{24 (45:25)} Therefore shall he say: In the Lord are my justices and empire: they shall come to him, and all that resist him shall be confounded. ^{25 (45:26)} In the Lord shall all the seed of Israel be justified and praised.

⁸ Thou hast neither heard, nor known, neither was thy ear opened of old. For I know that transgressing thou wilt transgress, and I have called thee a transgressor from the womb.

¹⁰ The Lord hath prepared his holy arm in the sight of all the Gentiles: and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

²¹ And thy people shall be all just, they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hand to glorify me.

¹⁹ And I will set a sign among them, and I will send of them that shall be saved, to the Gentiles into the sea, into Africa, and Lydia them that draw the bow: into Italy, and Greece, to the islands afar off, to them that have not heard of me, and have not seen my glory. And they shall declare my glory to the Gentiles: ²⁰ And they shall bring all your brethren out of all nations for a gift to the Lord, upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and on mules, and in coaches, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the Lord, as if the children of Israel should bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the Lord.

²⁰ But as a woman that despiseth her lover, so hath the house of Israel despised me, saith the Lord.

¹¹ For the house of Israel, and the house of Juda have greatly transgressed against me, saith the Lord.

¹ Thou indeed, O Lord, art just, if I plead with thee, but yet I will speak what is just to thee: Why doth the way of the wicked prosper: why is it well with all them that transgress, and do wickedly?

⁶ For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have fought against thee, and have cried after thee with full voice: believe them not when they speak good things to thee.

² Beth. Weeping, she hath wept in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: there is none to comfort her among all them that were dear to her: all her friends have despised her, and are become her enemies.

⁷ They have transgressed against the Lord: for they have begotten children that are strangers: now shall a month devour them with their portions.

⁷ But they, like Adam, have transgressed the covenant, there have they dealt treacherously against me.

⁴ And he shall stand, and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the height of the name of the Lord, his God: and they shall be converted, for now shall he be magnified even to the ends of the earth.

³ Why hast thou shewn me iniquity and grievance, to see rapine and injustice before me? and there is a judgment, but opposition is more powerful.

²⁷ And then shall he send his angels and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

⁴⁷ For so the Lord hath commanded us: I have set thee to be the light of the Gentiles: that thou mayest be for salvation unto the utmost part of the earth.

³ And singing the canticle of Moses, the servant of God, and the canticle of the Lamb, saying: Great and wonderful are thy works, O Lord God Almighty. Just and true are thy ways, O King of ages.

⁵ And I heard the angel of the waters saying: Thou art just, O Lord, who art and who wast, the Holy One, because thou hast judged these things. ⁶ For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets: and thou hast given them blood to drink. For they are worthy. ⁷ And I heard another, from the altar, saying: Yea, O Lord God Almighty, true and just are thy judgments.

¹ After these things, I heard as it were the voice of much people in heaven, saying: Alleluia. Salvation and glory and power is to our God. ² For true and just are his judgments, who hath judged the great harlot which corrupted the earth with her fornication and hath revenged the blood of his servants, at her hands. ³ And again they said: Alleluia. And her smoke ascendeth for ever and ever. ⁴ And the four and twenty ancients and the four living creatures fell down and adored God that sitteth upon the throne, saying: Amen. Alleluia. ⁵ And a voice came out from the throne, saying: Give praise to our God, all ye his servants: and you that fear him, little and great. ⁶ And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of great thunders, saying: Alleluia: for the Lord our God, the Almighty, hath reigned.
