⁴ Upon whom have you jested? upon whom have you opened your mouth wide, and put out your tongue? are not you wicked children, a false seed,

¹⁷ Dost thou yet hold back my people; and wilt thou not let them go?

⁷ And in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord: for he hath heard your murmuring against the Lord: but as for us, what are we, that you mutter against us? ⁸ And Moses said: In the evening the Lord will give you flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full: for he hath heard your murmurings, with which you have murmured against him, for what are we? your murmuring is not against us, but against the Lord.

¹¹ And that all thy company should stand against the Lord? for what is Aaron that you murmur against him?

²¹ And all the army returned to Josue, in Maceda, where the camp then was, in good health, and without the loss of any one: and no man durst move his tongue against the children of Israel.

¹⁵ Shall the axe boast itself against him that cutteth with it? or shall the saw exalt itself against him by whom it is drawn? as if a rod should lift itself up against him that lifteth it up, and a staff exalt itself, which is but wood.

¹ Woe to you, apostate children, saith the Lord, that you would take counsel, and not of me: and would begin a web, and not by my spirit, that you might add sin upon sin:

⁹ For it is a people that provoketh to wrath, and lying children that will not hear the law of God.

²³ Whom hast thou reproached, and whom hast thou blasphemed, and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thy eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel.

²⁹ When thou wast mad against me, thy pride came up to my ears: therefore I will put a ring in thy nose, and a bit between thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

¹⁵ Samech. All they that passed by the way have clapped their hands at thee: they have hissed, and wagged their heads at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying: Is this the city of perfect beauty, the joy of all the earth? ¹⁶ Phe. All thy enemies have opened their month against thee: they have hissed, and gnashed with the teeth, and have said: We will swallow her up: lo, this is the day which we looked for: we have found it, we have seen it.

⁴ And they to whom I send thee are children of a hard face, and of an obstinate heart: and thou shalt say to them: Thus saith the Lord God:

⁹ From the days of Gabaa, Israel hath sinned, there they stood: the battle in Gabaa against the children of iniquity shall not overtake them.

³⁸ And the field is the world. And the good seed are the children of the kingdom. And the cockle are the children of the wicked one.

²⁹ And platting a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand. And bowing the knee before him, they mocked him, saying: Hail, King of the Jews.

³⁹ And they that passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, ⁴⁰ And saying: Vah, thou that destroyest the temple of God and in three days dost rebuild it: save thy own self. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. ⁴¹ In like manner also the chief priests, with the scribes and ancients, mocking said: ⁴² He saved others: himself he cannot save. If he be the king of Israel, let him now come down from the cross: and we will believe him. ⁴³ He trusted in God: let him now deliver him if he will have him. For he said: I am the Son of God. ⁴⁴ And the selfsame thing the thieves also that were crucified with him reproached him with.

¹⁶ He that heareth you heareth me: and he that despiseth you despiseth me: and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

⁴ And falling on the ground, he heard a voice saying to him: Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

² Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of this air, of the spirit that now worketh on the children of unbelief: ³ In which also we all conversed in time past, in the desires of our flesh, fulfilling the will of the flesh and of our thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:

⁶ Let no man deceive you with vain words. For because of these things cometh the anger of God upon the children of unbelief.

⁶ For which things the wrath of God cometh upon the children of unbelief.
