²⁹ And Abraham said to him: They have Moses and the prophets. Let them hear them.

²⁰ To the law rather, and to the testimony. And if they speak not according to this word, they shall not have the morning light.

¹⁶ Search ye diligently in the book of the Lord, and read: not one of them was wanting, one hath not sought for the other: for that which proceedeth out of my mouth, he hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

² But unto you that fear my name, the Sun of justice shall arise, and health in his wings: and you shall go forth, and shall leap like calves of the herd. ³ And you shall tread down the wicked when they shall be ashes under the sole of your feet in the day that I do this, saith the Lord of hosts. ⁴ Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, the precepts, and judgments.

¹⁷ And the book of Isaias the prophet was delivered unto him. And as he unfolded the book, he found the place where it was written:

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were until John. From that time the kingdom of God is preached: and every one useth violence towards it.

²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures the things that were concerning him.

³⁹ Search the scriptures: for you think in them to have life everlasting. And the same are they that give testimony of me. ⁴⁰ And you will not come to me that you may have life. ⁴¹ I receive not glory from men. ⁴² But I know you, that you have not the love of God in you. ⁴³ I am come in the name of my Father, and you receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him you will receive. ⁴⁴ How can you believe, who receive glory one from another: and the glory which is from God alone, you do not seek? ⁴⁵ Think not that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one that accuseth you, Moses, in whom you trust. ⁴⁶ For if you did believe Moses, you would perhaps believe me also: for he wrote of me. ⁴⁷ But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?

²¹ For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him in the synagogues, where he is read every sabbath.

¹¹ Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, who received the word with all eagerness, daily searching the scriptures, whether these things were so. ¹² And many indeed of them believed: and of honourable women that were Gentiles and of men, not a few.

¹⁵ And because from thy infancy thou hast known the holy scriptures which can instruct thee to salvation by the faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice: ¹⁷ That the man of God may be perfect, furnished to every good work.

¹⁹ And we have the more firm prophetical word: whereunto you do well to attend, as to a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn and the day star arise in your hearts. ²⁰ Understanding this first: That no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation. ²¹ For prophecy came not by the will of man at any time: but the holy men of God spoke, inspired by the Holy Ghost.
