¹ Blessed is the man who hath not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the chair of pestilence: ² But his will is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he shall meditate day and night. ³ And he shall be like a tree which is planted near the running waters, which shall bring forth its fruit, in due season. And his leaf shall not fall off: and all whatsoever he shall do shall prosper. ⁴ Not so the wicked, not so: but like the dust, which the wind driveth from the face of the earth. ⁵ Therefore the wicked shall not rise again in judgment: nor sinners in the council of the just. ⁶ For the Lord knoweth the way of the just: and the way of the wicked shall perish.

²⁴ And he walked with God, and was seen no more: because God took him.

⁶ Let not my soul go into their counsel, nor my glory be in their assembly: because in their fury they slew a man, and in their selfwill they undermined a wall.

²⁷ But if you will not for all this hearken to me, but will walk against me ²⁸ I will also go against you with opposite fury: and I will chastise you with seven plagues for your sins,

² And all these blessings shall come upon thee and overtake thee: yet so if thou hear his precepts. ³ Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed in the field. ⁴ Blessed shall be the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the droves of thy herds, and the folds of thy sheep. ⁵ Blessed shall be thy barns and blessed thy stores. ⁶ Blessed shalt thou be coming in and going out. ⁷ The Lord shall cause thy enemies, that rise up against thee, to fall down before thy face: one way shall they come out against thee, and seven ways shall they flee before thee. ⁸ The Lord will send forth a blessing upon thy storehouses, and upon all the works of thy hands: and will bless thee in the land that thou shalt receive. ⁹ The Lord will raise thee up to be a holy people to himself, as he swore to thee: if thou keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways. ¹⁰ And all the people of the earth shall see that the name of the Lord is invocated upon thee, and they shall fear thee. ¹¹ The Lord will make thee abound with all goods, with the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy cattle, with the fruit of thy land, which the Lord swore to thy fathers that he would give thee. ¹² The Lord will open his excellent treasure, the heaven, that it may give rain in due season: and he will bless all the works of thy hands. And thou shalt lend to many nations, and shalt not borrow of any one. ¹³ And the Lord shall make thee the head and not the tail: and thou shalt be always above, and not beneath: yet so if thou wilt hear the commandments of the Lord thy God which I command thee this day, and keep and do them, ¹⁴ And turn not away from them neither to the right hand, nor to the left, nor follow strange gods, nor worship them. ¹⁵ But if thou wilt not hear the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep and to do all his commandments and ceremonies, which I command thee this day, all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee. ¹⁶ Cursed shalt thou be in the city, cursed in the field. ¹⁷ Cursed shall be thy barn, and cursed thy stores. ¹⁸ Cursed shall be the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy ground, the herds of thy oxen, and the flocks of thy sheep. ¹⁹ Cursed shalt thou be coming in, and cursed going out. ²⁰ The Lord shall send upon thee famine and hunger, and a rebuke upon all the works which thou shalt do: until he consume and destroy thee quickly, for thy most wicked inventions, by which thou hast forsaken me. ²¹ May the Lord set the pestilence upon thee, until he consume thee out of the land, which thou shalt go in to possess. ²² May the Lord afflict thee with miserable want, with the fever and with cold, with burning and with heat, and with corrupted air and with blasting, and pursue thee till thou perish. ²³ Be the heaven, that is over thee, of brass: and the ground thou treadest on, of iron. ²⁴ The Lord give thee dust for rain upon thy land, and let ashes come down from heaven upon thee, till thou be consumed. ²⁵ The Lord make thee to fall down before thy enemies, one way mayst thou go out against them, and flee seven ways, and be scattered throughout all the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ And be thy carcass meat for all the fowls of the air, and the beasts of the earth, and be there none to drive them away. ²⁷ The Lord strike thee with the ulcer of Egypt, and the part of thy body, by which the dung is cast out, with the scab and with the itch: so that thou canst not be healed. ²⁸ The Lord strike thee with madness and blindness and fury of mind. ²⁹ And mayst thou grope at midday as the blind is wont to grope in the dark, and not make straight thy ways. And mayst thou at all times suffer wrong, and be oppressed with violence, and mayst thou have no one to deliver thee. ³⁰ Mayst thou take a wife, and another sleep with her. Mayst thou build a house, and not dwell therein. Mayest thou plant a vineyard and not gather the vintage thereof. ³¹ May thy ox be slain before thee, and thou not eat thereof. May thy ass be taken away in thy sight, and not restored to thee. May thy sheep be given to thy enemies, and may there be none to help thee. ³² May thy sons and thy daughters be given to another people, thy eyes looking on, and languishing at the sight of them all the day, and may there be no strength in thy hand. ³³ May a people which thou knowest not, eat the fruits of thy land, and all thy labours: and mayst thou always suffer oppression, and be crushed at all times. ³⁴ And be astonished at the terror of those things which thy eyes shall see: ³⁵ May the Lord strike thee with a very sore ulcer in the knees and in the legs, and be thou incurable from the sole of the foot to the top of the head. ³⁶ The Lord shall bring thee, and thy king, whom thou shalt have appointed over thee, into a nation which thou and thy fathers know not: and there thou shalt serve strange gods, wood and stone. ³⁷ And thou shalt be lost, as a proverb and a byword to all people, among whom the Lord shall bring thee in. ³⁸ Thou shalt cast much seed into the ground, and gather little: because the locusts shall consume all. ³⁹ Thou shalt plant a vineyard, and dig it, and shalt not drink the wine, nor gather any thing thereof: because it shall be wasted with worms. ⁴⁰ Thou shalt have olive trees in all thy borders, and shalt not be anointed with the oil: for the olives shall fall off and perish. ⁴¹ Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, and shalt not enjoy them: because they shall be led into captivity. ⁴² The blast shall consume all the trees and the fruits of thy ground. ⁴³ The stranger that liveth with thee in the land, shall rise up over thee, and shall be higher: and thou shalt go down, and be lower. ⁴⁴ He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him. He shall be as the head, and thou shalt be the tail. ⁴⁵ And all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue and overtake thee, till thou perish: because thou heardst not the voice of the Lord thy God, and didst not keep his commandments and ceremonies which he commanded thee. ⁴⁶ And they shall be as signs and wonders on thee, and on thy seed for ever. ⁴⁷ Because thou didst not serve the Lord thy God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things: ⁴⁸ Thou shalt serve thy enemy, whom the Lord will send upon thee, in hunger, and thirst, and nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put an iron yoke upon thy neck, till he consume thee. ⁴⁹ The Lord will bring upon thee a nation from afar, and from the uttermost ends of the earth, like an eagle that flyeth swiftly, whose tongue thou canst not understand, ⁵⁰ A most insolent nation, that will shew no regard to the ancients, nor have pity on the infant, ⁵¹ And will devour the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruits of thy land: until thou be destroyed, and will leave thee no wheat, nor wine, nor oil, nor herds of oxen, nor flocks of sheep: until he destroy thee. ⁵² And consume thee in all thy cities, and thy strong and high wall be brought down, wherein thou trustedst in all thy land. Thou shalt be besieged within thy gates in all thy land which the Lord thy God will give thee: ⁵³ And thou shalt eat the fruit of thy womb, and the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the Lord thy God shall give thee, in the distress and extremity wherewith thy enemy shall oppress thee. ⁵⁴ The man that is nice among you, and very delicate, shall envy his own brother, and his wife, that lieth in his bosom, ⁵⁵ So that he will not give them of the flesh of his children, which he shall eat: because he hath nothing else in the siege and the want, wherewith thy enemies shall distress thee within all thy gates. ⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman, that could not go upon the ground, nor set down her foot for over much niceness and tenderness, will envy her husband who lieth in her bosom, the flesh of her son, and of her daughter, ⁵⁷ And the filth of the afterbirths, that come forth from between her thighs, and the children that are born the same hour. For they shall eat them secretly for the want of all things, in the siege and distress, wherewith thy enemy shall oppress thee within thy gates. ⁵⁸ If thou wilt not keep, and fulfil all the words of this law, that are written in this volume, and fear his glorious and terrible name: that is, The Lord thy God: ⁵⁹ The Lord shall increase thy plagues, and the plagues of thy seed, plagues great and lasting, infirmities grievous and perpetual. ⁶⁰ And he shall bring back on thee all the afflictions of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of, and they shall stick fast to thee. ⁶¹ Moreover the Lord will bring upon thee all the diseases, and plagues, that are not written in the volume of this law till he consume thee: ⁶² And you shall remain few in number, who before were as the stars of heaven for multitude, because thou heardst not the voice of the Lord thy God. ⁶³ And as the Lord rejoiced upon you before doing good to you, and multiplying you: so he shall rejoice destroying and bringing you to nought, so that you shall be taken away from the land which thou shalt go in to possess. ⁶⁴ The Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the farthest parts of the earth to the ends thereof: and there thou shalt serve strange gods, which both thou art ignorant of and thy fathers, wood and stone. ⁶⁵ Neither shalt thou be quiet, even in those nations, nor shall there be any rest for the sole of thy foot. For the Lord will give thee a fearful heart, and languishing eyes, and a soul consumed with pensiveness: ⁶⁶ And thy life shall be as it were hanging before thee. Thou shalt fear night and day, neither shalt thou trust thy life. ⁶⁷ In the morning thou shalt say: Who will grant me evening? and at evening: Who will grant me morning? for the fearfulness of thy heart, wherewith thou shalt be terrified, and for those things which thou shalt see with thy eyes. ⁶⁸ The Lord shall bring thee again with ships into Egypt, by the way whereof he said to thee that thou shouldst see it no more. There shalt thou be set to sale to thy enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.

²⁹ Blessed art thou, Israel: who is like to thee, O people, that art saved by the Lord? the shield of thy help, and the sword of thy glory: thy enemies shall deny thee, and thou shalt tread upon their necks.

³¹ Nor was it enough for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nabat: but he also took to wife Jezabel, daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians. And he went, and served Baal, and adored him.

³ He also walked in the ways of the house of Achab: for his mother pushed him on to do wickedly.

³ Doth it seem good to thee that thou shouldst calumniate me, and oppress me, the work of thy own hands, and help the counsel of the wicked?

¹⁶ Yet because their good things are not in their hand, may the counsel of the wicked be far from me.

⁵ If I have walked in vanity, and my foot hath made haste to deceit:

⁶ For the Lord knoweth the way of the just: and the way of the wicked shall perish.

¹² Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord be angry, and you perish from the just way. ^(2:13) When his wrath shall be kindled in a short time, blessed are all they that trust in him.

⁴ I have not sat with the council of vanity: neither will I go in with the doers of unjust things. ⁵ I have hated the assembly of the malignant; and with the wicked I will not sit.

¹² My foot hath stood in the direct way: in the churches I will bless thee, O Lord.

¹ To David himself, understanding. Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. ² Blessed is the man to whom the Lord hath not imputed sin, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

^{8 (34:9)} O taste, and see that the Lord is sweet: blessed is the man that hopeth in him.

^{4 (36:5)} He hath devised iniquity on his bed, he hath set himself on every way that is not good: but evil he hath not hated.

¹ Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. ² Blessed are they that search his testimonies: that seek him with their whole heart.

¹¹⁵ Depart from me, ye malignant: and I will search the commandments of my God.

¹⁵ They have called the people happy, that hath these things: but happy is that people whose God is the Lord.

⁵ Blessed is he who hath the God of Jacob for his helper, whose hope is in the Lord his God:

⁹ The Lord keepeth the strangers, he will support the fatherless and the widow: and the ways of sinners he will destroy.

¹⁵ My son, walk not thou with them, restrain thy foot from their paths.

²² O children, how long will you love childishness, and fools covet those things which are hurtful to themselves, and the unwise hate knowledge?

¹² That thou mayst be delivered from the evil way, and from the man that speaketh perverse things:

³⁴ He shall scorn the scorners, and to the meek he will give grace.

¹⁴ Be not delighted in the paths of the wicked, neither let the way of evil men please thee. ¹⁵ Flee from it, pass not by it: go aside, and forsake it.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is darksome: they know not where they fall.

¹² If thou be wise, thou shalt be so to thyself: and if a scorner, thou alone shalt bear the evil.

¹⁵ Good instruction shall give grace: in the way of scorners is a deep pit.

²⁰ He that walketh with the wise, shall be wise: a friend of fools shall become like to them.

²⁹ Judgments are prepared for scorners: and striking hammers for the bodies of fools.

¹⁷ I sat not in the assembly of jesters, nor did I make a boast of the presence of thy hand: I sat alone, because thou hast filled me with threats.

⁷ Blessed be the man that trusteth in the Lord, and the Lord shall be his confidence.

¹⁸ And I said to their children in the wilderness: Walk not in the statutes of your fathers, and observe not their judgments, nor be ye defiled with their idols:

²² For I am delighted with the law of God, according to the inward man:

⁹ For you remember, brethren, our labour and toil: working night and day, lest we should be chargeable to any of you, we preached among you the gospel of God.

¹⁵ Meditate upon these things, be wholly in these things: that thy profiting may be manifest to all.

³ I give thanks to God, whom I serve from my forefathers, with a pure conscience, that without ceasing I have a remembrance of thee in my prayers, night and day.

³ For this is the charity of God: That we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not heavy.

³ Who knew very well that the Lord was with him, and made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

²³ Neither did he himself know any thing, having committed all things to him: for the Lord was with him, and made all that he did to prosper.

⁷ Take courage therefore, and be very valiant: that thou mayst observe and do all the law, which Moses my servant hath commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayst understand all things which thou dost. ⁸ Let not the book of this law depart from thy mouth: but thou shalt meditate on it day and night, that thou mayst observe and do all things that are written in it: then shalt thou direct thy way, and understand it.

¹¹ Now then, my son, the Lord be with thee, and do thou prosper, and build the house to the Lord thy God, as he hath spoken of thee.

²¹ In all the service of the house of the Lord according to the law and the ceremonies, desiring to seek his God with all his heart, and he did it and prospered.

²³ Many also brought victims, and sacrifices to the Lord to Jerusalem, and presents to Ezechias king of Juda: and he was magnified thenceforth in the sight of all nations.

⁹ At the scent of water, it shall spring, and bring forth leaves, as when it was first planted.

^{14 (92:15)} They shall still increase in a fruitful old age: and shall be well treated,

² For thou shalt eat the labours of thy hands: blessed art thou, and it shall be well with thee.

⁸ And they that passed by have not said: The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we have blessed you in the name of the Lord.

¹⁰ Say to the just man that it is well, for he shall eat the fruit of his doings.

¹¹ Its harvest shall be destroyed with drought, women shall come and teach it: for it is not a wise people, therefore he that made it, shall not have mercy on it: and he that formed it, shall not spare it.

⁴ And they shall spring up among the herbs, as willows beside the running waters.

⁸ And he shall be as a tree that is planted by the waters, that spreadeth out its roots towards moisture: and it shall not fear when the heat cometh. And the leaf thereof shall be green, and in the time of drought it shall not be solicitous, neither shall it cease at any time to bring forth fruit.

⁸ It was planted in a good ground upon many waters, that it might bring forth branches, and bear fruit, that it might become a large vine.

¹⁰ Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood planted by the water: her fruit and her branches have grown out of many waters.

¹² And by the torrent on the banks thereof on both sides shall grow all trees that bear fruit: their leaf shall not fall off, and their fruit shall not fail: every month shall they bring forth firstfruits, because the waters thereof shall issue out of the sanctuary: and the fruits thereof shall be for food, and the leaves thereof for medicine.

⁶ And when the sun was up they were scorched: and because they had not root, they withered away.

¹⁹ And seeing a certain fig tree by the way side, he came to it and found nothing on it but leaves only. And he saith to it: May no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And immediately the fig tree withered away.

³⁴ And when the time of the fruits drew nigh, he sent his servants to the husbandmen that they might receive the fruits thereof.

⁴¹ They say to him: He will bring those evil men to an evil end and let out his vineyard to other husbandmen that shall render him the fruit in due season.

⁶ If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch and shall wither: and they shall gather him up and cast him into the fire: and he burneth.

¹² These are spots in their banquets, feasting together without fear, feeding themselves: clouds without water, which are carried about by winds: trees of the autumn, unfruitful, twice dead, plucked up by the roots:

² In the midst of the street thereof, and on both sides of the river, was the tree of life, bearing twelve fruits, yielding its fruits every month: the leaves of the tree for the healing of the nations.

¹⁸ They shall be as chaff before the face of the wind, and as ashes which the whirlwind scattereth.

⁵ Let them become as dust before the wind: and let the angel of the Lord straiten them.

¹³ Nations shall make a noise like the noise of waters overflowing, but he shall rebuke him, and he shall flee far off: and he shall be carried away as the dust of the mountains before the wind, and as a whirlwind before a tempest.

⁵ And the multitude of them that fan thee, shall be like small dust: and as ashes passing away, the multitude of them that have prevailed against thee.

³ Therefore they shall be as a morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the dust that is driven with a whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

¹² Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor and gather his wheat into the barn; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.

^{5 (5:6)} Neither shall the wicked dwell near thee: nor shall the unjust abide before thy eyes.

^{7 (9:8)} But the Lord remaineth for ever. He hath prepared his throne in judgment: ^{8 (9:9)} And he shall judge the world in equity, he shall judge the people in justice.

^{16 (9:17)} The Lord shall be known when he executeth judgments: the sinner hath been caught in the works of his own hands.

³ Who shall ascend into the mountain of the Lord: or who shall stand in his holy place?

⁹ Take not away my soul, O God, with the wicked: nor my life with bloody men:

¹⁸ And you shall return, and shall see the difference between the just and the wicked: and between him that serveth God, and him that serveth him not.

⁴⁹ So shall it be at the end of the world. The angels shall go out, and shall separate the wicked from among the just.

³² And all nations shall be gathered together before him: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats:

⁴¹ Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels.

⁴⁶ And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting.

³⁶ Watch ye, therefore, praying at all times, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that are to come and to stand before the Son of man.

¹⁵ To execute judgment upon all and to reprove all the ungodly for all the works of their ungodliness, whereby they have done ungodly: and for all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against God.

¹⁰ But he knoweth my way, and has tried me as gold that passeth through the fire:

^{6 (9:7)} The swords of the enemy have failed unto the end: and their cities thou hast destroyed. Their memory hath perished with a noise:

¹⁸ The Lord knoweth the days of the undefiled; and their inheritance shall be for ever. ¹⁹ They shall not be confounded in the evil time; and in the days of famine they shall be filled: ²⁰ Because the wicked shall perish. And the enemies of the Lord, presently after they shall be honoured and exalted, shall come to nothing and vanish like smoke. ²¹ The sinner shall borrow, and not pay again; but the just sheweth mercy and shall give. ²² For such as bless him shall inherit the land: but such as curse him shall perish. ²³ With the Lord shall the steps of a man be directed, and he shall like well his way. ²⁴ When he shall fall he shall not be bruised, for the Lord putteth his hand under him.

¹⁰ The wicked shall see, and shall be angry, he shall gnash with his teeth and pine away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

¹ Unto the end, a psalm of David. Lord, thou hast proved me, and known me: ² Thou hast known my sitting down, and my rising up.

^{3 (142:4)} When my spirit failed me, then thou knewest my paths. In this way wherein I walked, they have hidden a snare for me.

¹² There is a way which seemeth just to a man: but the ends thereof lead to death.

⁹ The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: he that followeth justice is beloved by him.

⁷ The Lord is good, and giveth strength in the day of trouble: and knoweth them that hope in him.

¹³ Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat.

¹⁴ I am the good shepherd: and I know mine, and mine know me.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice. And I know them: and they follow me.

¹⁹ But the sure foundation of God standeth firm, having this seal: the Lord knoweth who are his; and let every one depart from iniquity who nameth the name of the Lord.

¹² But these men, as irrational beasts, naturally tending to the snare and to destruction, blaspheming those things which they know not, shall perish in their corruption:
