^{3 (44:4)} For they got not the possession of the land by their own sword: neither did their own arm save them. But thy right hand and thy arm, and the light of thy countenance: because thou wast pleased with them.

¹⁶ Let fear and dread fall upon them, in the greatness of thy arm: let them become immoveable as a stone, until thy people, O Lord, pass by: until this thy people pass by, which thou hast possessed.

⁸ If the Lord be favourable, he will bring us into it, and give us a land flowing with milk and honey.

³⁷ Because he loved thy fathers, and chose their seed after them. And he brought thee out of Egypt, going before thee with his great power, ³⁸ To destroy at thy coming very great nations, and stronger than thou art, and to bring thee in, and give thee their land for a possession, as thou seest at this present day.

⁷ Not because you surpass all nations in number, is the Lord joined unto you, and hath chosen you, for you are the fewest of any people: ⁸ But because the Lord hath loved you, and hath kept his oath, which he swore to your fathers: and hath brought you out with a strong hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, out of the hand of Pharao the king of Egypt.

¹⁷ Lest thou shouldst say in thy heart: My own might, and the strength of my own hand have achieved all these things for me. ¹⁸ But remember the Lord thy God, that he hath given thee strength, that he might fulfil his covenant, concerning which he swore to thy fathers, as this present day sheweth.

¹⁵ And yet the Lord hath been closely joined to thy fathers, and loved them and chose their seed after them, that is to say, you, out of all nations, as this day it is proved.

¹² And I sent before you and I drove them out from their places, the two kings of the Amorrhites, not with thy sword nor with thy bow,

²² And the Lord will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because the Lord hath sworn to make you his people.

⁷ Shew forth thy wonderful mercies; thou who savest them that trust in thee.
