²¹ Therefore the Lord heard, and was angry: and a fire was kindled against Jacob, and wrath came up against Israel.

¹ In the mean time there arose a murmuring of the people against the Lord, as it were repining at their fatigue. And when the Lord heard it he was angry. And the fire of the Lord being kindled against them, devoured them that were at the uttermost part of the camp. ² And when the people cried to Moses, Moses prayed to the Lord, and the fire was swallowed up. ³ And he called the name of that place, The burning: for that the fire of the Lord had been kindled against them.

¹⁰ Now Moses heard the people weeping by their families, every one at the door of his tent. And the wrath of the Lord was exceedingly enkindled: to Moses also the thing seemed insupportable.

²² A fire is kindled in my wrath, and shall burn even to the lowest hell: and shall devour the earth with her increase, and shall burn the foundations of the mountains.

³¹ And the wrath of God came upon them. And he slew the fat ones amongst them, and brought down the chosen men of Israel.

⁵ But with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the desert.

¹¹ Now all these things happened to them in figure: and they are written for our correction, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

²⁹ For our God is a consuming fire.

⁵ I will therefore admonish you, though ye once knew all things, that Jesus, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, did afterwards destroy them that believed not.
