¹ ¶ Moreover, brothers, I would that ye not ignore how our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea ² and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea ³ and did all eat the same spiritual food ⁴ and did all drink the same spiritual drink, for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them; and that Rock was the Christ. ⁵ But with many of them God was not pleased; therefore, they were overthrown in the wilderness. ⁶ ¶ Now these things became types of us, that we should not lust after evil things as they lusted. ⁷ Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play. ⁸ Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed and fell dead: in one day, twenty-three thousand. ⁹ Neither let us tempt the Christ, as some of them also tempted and perished by the serpents. ¹⁰ Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured and perished by the destroyer. ¹¹ Now all these things happened unto them as types, and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come. ¹² Therefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. ¹³ No temptation has taken you but such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. ¹⁴ Therefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. ¹⁵ ¶ I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say. ¹⁶ The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the fellowship of the blood of the Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the fellowship of the body of the Christ? ¹⁷ For one loaf of bread means that many are one body, for we are all partakers of that one loaf. ¹⁸ Behold Israel after the flesh: are not those who eat of the sacrifices participants of the altar? ¹⁹ What do I say then? that the idol is anything or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is anything? ²⁰ But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God; and I would not that ye should be participants of demons. ²¹ Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; ye cannot be participants of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. ²² Shall we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? ²³ ¶ All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient; all things are lawful for me, but all things do not edify. ²⁴ Let no one seek his own good, but that of the other. ²⁵ Whatever is sold in the market, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake; ²⁶ for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof. ²⁷ If any of those that do not believe bid you to a feast, and ye are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you asking no questions for conscience sake. ²⁸ But if anyone says unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, do not eat it for the sake of him that disclosed it and for conscience sake; for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof: ²⁹ conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other, for why should my liberty be judged by another man’s conscience? ³⁰ For if I by grace am a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks? ³¹ Whether therefore ye eat or drink or whatever ye do, do everything for the glory of God. ³² Be without offense, neither to the Jews nor to the Gentiles nor to the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God; ³³ even as I please everyone in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

²¹ And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them in the way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light that they might walk by day and by night. ²² He never took away the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

¹⁹ And the angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and likewise the pillar of cloud went from before their face and stood behind them. ²⁰ And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it lit up the night unto Israel; and all that night the one side never came near the other. ²¹ ¶ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. ²² Then the sons of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand and on their left.

²⁹ But the sons of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand and on their left.

³⁴ ¶ Then a cloud covered the tabernacle of the testimony, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

¹⁵ ¶ And on the day that the tabernacle was raised up, the cloud covered the tabernacle over the tent of the testimony; and in the evening there was upon the tabernacle, as it were, the appearance of fire until the morning. ¹⁶ So it was always: the cloud covered it, and the appearance of fire by night. ¹⁷ And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the sons of Israel journeyed; and in the place where the cloud abode, there the sons of Israel pitched their tents. ¹⁸ At the commandment of the LORD the sons of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched camp; as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle, they rested. ¹⁹ And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the sons of Israel kept the charge of the LORD and did not journey. ²⁰ And so it was, when the cloud was a determined number of days upon the tabernacle, according to the commandment of the LORD they camped, and according to the commandment of the LORD they journeyed. ²¹ And so it was that when the cloud remained from evening unto the morning, and in the morning the cloud was taken up, then they journeyed; or if it had remained during the day and the cloud was taken up by night, they journeyed. ²² Or if it was two days or a month or a year that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the sons of Israel camped and did not journey; but when it was taken up, they journeyed.

¹⁴ and the inhabitants of this land will say, for they have already heard that thou, oh LORD, wast among this people, that thou, O LORD, art seen face to face, and that thy cloud was over them, and that thou didst go before them by day time in a pillar of a cloud and in a pillar of fire by night;

⁸ And they departed from before Pihahiroth and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness and went three days’ journey in the wilderness of Etham and pitched in Marah.

³³ who went in the way before you to search you out a place to pitch your tents, with fire by night, to show you by what way ye should go, and with a cloud by day.

²³ For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you until ye had passed, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us until we had passed,

¹¹ And thou didst divide the sea before them so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors thou didst throw into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters. ¹² Moreover, thou didst lead them by day with a pillar of cloud and by night with a pillar of fire to give them light in the way by which they should go.

¹⁹ yet thou in thy manifold mercies didst not forsake them in the wilderness; the pillar of the cloud did not depart from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither did the pillar of fire by night, to illuminate the way in which they should go.

⁶ He turned the sea into dry land; they went through the river on foot; there did we rejoice in him.

¹⁶ The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid; the depths also were troubled. ¹⁷ The clouds poured out floods of waters; the heavens thundered; thy bolts of lightning also went forth. ¹⁸ The voice of thy thunder was all around; the lightnings lightened the world; the earth trembled and shook. ¹⁹ Thy way was in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps were not known. ²⁰ Thou didst lead thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

¹³ He divided the sea and caused them to pass through, and he made the waters to stand as a heap. ¹⁴ In the daytime also he led them with a cloud and all the night with a light of fire.

⁵³ And he led them on safely, so that they feared not; but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

³⁹ He spread a cloud for a covering and fire to give light in the night.

⁷ Our fathers did not understand thy wonders in Egypt; they did not remember the multitude of thy mercies but rebelled by the sea, even at the Red sea. ⁸ Nevertheless he saved them for his name’s sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known. ⁹ He reprehended the Red sea also, and it was dried up, so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness. ¹⁰ And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. ¹¹ And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.

³ The sea saw it and fled; Jordan was driven back. ⁴ The mountains skipped like rams and the little hills like lambs. ⁵ What came upon thee, O thou sea, that thou didst flee? And thou O Jordan, that thou wast driven back?

¹³ To him who divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endures for ever: ¹⁴ And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for his mercy endures for ever: ¹⁵ But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red sea: for his mercy endures for ever.

¹¹ And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. ¹² And they shall build up out of thee the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the fallen foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. ¹³ ¶ If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy will on my holy day; and call the sabbath the delightful, holy, glorious day of the LORD; and shalt honour him by not doing thine own ways, nor seeking thine own will, nor speaking thine own words:

²⁰ Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where it is necessary to worship.

¹¹ And he received the circumcision as a sign, as a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had, yet being uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all the uncircumcised believers, that it might be counted unto them also as righteousness,

²¹ that if God did not forgive the natural branches, neither shall he forgive thee.

¹ ¶ Now regarding spiritual things, brothers, I would not have you ignore them.

³⁸ But anyone that ignores them shall be ignored.

²⁹ And if ye are Christ’s, then ye are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

²⁹ By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land, which the Egyptians attempted to do and were drowned.

² And I saw, as it were, a sea of glass mingled with fire and those that had gotten the victory over the beast and over its image and over its mark and over the number of its name stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. ³ And they sing the song of Moses, the slave of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

³¹ And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did against the Egyptians; and the people feared the LORD and believed the LORD and his slave Moses.

²⁸ Then they reviled him and said, Be thou his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. ²⁹ We know that God spoke unto Moses; as for this fellow, we do not know where he is from.

³ Know ye not that all of us that are baptized into Jesus the Christ are baptized into his death?

¹³ Is the Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized into the name of Paul? ¹⁴ ¶ I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius, ¹⁵ lest any should say that ye were baptized into my name. ¹⁶ And I baptized also the household of Stephanas; besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.

²⁷ For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

² who was faithful to him that appointed him over all his house, as also Moses was faithful. ³ For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who has built the house has more honour than the house.

⁴ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather the word for every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.

¹⁵ And when the sons of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna (What is it?): for they did not know what it was. Then Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.

³⁵ Thus the sons of Israel ate manna forty years until they came to a land inhabited; they ate manna until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

³ And he afflicted thee and caused thee to hunger and sustained thee with manna, food of which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know, that he might make thee know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD shall man live.

¹⁵ And thou didst give them bread from heaven in their hunger and didst bring forth water for them out of the rock in their thirst and didst promise them that they should go in to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them.

²⁰ Thou didst give thy good spirit to teach them and didst not withhold thy manna from their mouth and didst give them water for their thirst.

²³ and he commanded the clouds of above and opened the doors of the heavens ²⁴ and caused manna to rain upon them to eat and gave them wheat of the heavens. ²⁵ Man did eat the food of the strong; he sent them food to the full.

⁴⁰ The people asked, and he brought quails and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.

²² ¶ The day following when the multitude which was on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there except the one in which his disciples had entered and that Jesus had not gone with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples had gone away alone ²³ (but other boats came from Tiberias near unto the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks); ²⁴ when the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they also entered into the boats and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. ²⁵ And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when didst thou come here? ²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye have seen the signs, but because ye ate of the loaves and were filled. ²⁷ Labour not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you, for him has God the Father sealed. ²⁸ ¶ Then they said unto him, What shall we do that we might work the works of God? ²⁹ Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe in him whom he has sent. ³⁰ They said therefore unto him, What sign showest thou then that we may see and believe thee? what dost thou work? ³¹ Our fathers ate manna in the desert, as it is written, He gave them of the bread from the heaven to eat. ³² Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from the heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from the heaven. ³³ For the bread of God is he who descended from heaven and gives life unto the world. ³⁴ Then said they unto him, Lord, always give us this bread. ³⁵ And Jesus said unto them, I AM the bread of life; he that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes in me shall never thirst. ³⁶ But I said unto you, That even though ye have seen me, ye do not believe. ³⁷ All that the Father gives me shall come to me, and he that comes to me I will in no wise cast out. ³⁸ For I came down from the heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. ³⁹ And this is the Father’s will who has sent me, that of all whom he has given me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again in the last day. ⁴⁰ And this is the will of him that sent me, That every one who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up in the last day. ⁴¹ The Jews then murmured of him because he said, I AM the bread which descended from the heaven. ⁴² And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that he says, I descended from heaven? ⁴³ Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. ⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who has sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every man therefore that has heard from the Father and has learned comes unto me. ⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is of God, he has seen the Father. ⁴⁷ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believes in me has eternal life. ⁴⁸ I AM the bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness and are dead. ⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die. ⁵¹ I AM the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, they shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. ⁵² The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How is he able to give us his flesh to eat? ⁵³ Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye shall have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whosoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father has sent me, and I live by the Father, so he that eats me, he shall also live by me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down from heaven; not as your fathers ate manna and are dead; he that eats of this bread shall live eternally.

¹² And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days;

²⁶ The seven beautiful cows are seven years; and the seven good heads are seven years; the dream is one and the same.

⁶ Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb, and thou shalt smite the rock, and water shall come out of it that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

²¹ And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire and stamped it and ground it very small even until it was as small as dust, and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.

¹⁵ He clave the rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

²⁰ Behold, he smote the rock that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

⁴¹ He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places and became a river.

²⁰ The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls because I give waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert to give drink to my people, my chosen.

²¹ And they did not thirst when he led them through the deserts; he caused water to flow out of the rock for them; he clave the rock, and the waters gushed out.

⁴ Then take of them again and cast them into the midst of the fire and burn them in the fire; for thereof shall a fire come forth into all the house of Israel. ⁵ ¶ Thus hath the Lord GOD said: This is Jerusalem; I have set her in the midst of the Gentiles and of the lands that are round about her.

³⁸ And everything that is inhabited by children of men, beasts of the field, and fowls of the heaven, he has given into thine hand, and has made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.

¹⁷ These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise in the earth.

³⁸ the field is the world; the good seed are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked; ³⁹ and the enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.

²⁶ ¶ And as they were eating, Jesus took the bread, and, having blessed it, broke it and gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is my body. ²⁷ And taking the cup and having given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; ²⁸ for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

¹⁴ but whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a fountain of water springing up into eternal life.

³⁷ ¶ In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If any man thirsts, let him come unto me and drink.

²⁴ and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you; this do in remembrance of me. ²⁵ After the same manner also he took the cup, after he had eaten supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood; do this each time that ye drink, in remembrance of me.

²⁵ For this Hagar or Sinai is a mount in Arabia, which corresponds to the one that is now Jerusalem, which together with her children is in slavery.

¹⁷ which are a shadow of things to come, but the body is of the Christ.

¹ ¶ For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never make perfect those who come by the same sacrifices which they offer year by year continually.

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that hears say, Come. And let him that is thirsty come; and whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely.

¹¹ ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? How long will it be before they believe me, with all the signs which I have done among them? ¹² I will smite them with the pestilence and disinherit them and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

²⁸ Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, according as ye have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you. ²⁹ Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness, all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me; ³⁰ doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun. ³¹ But your little ones, whom ye said should be a prey, I will bring them in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised. ³² But as for you, your carcasses, they shall fall in this wilderness. ³³ And your children shall be shepherded in the wilderness forty years and bear your fornications until your carcasses are wasted in the wilderness. ³⁴ After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, each day for a year, ye shall bear your iniquities forty years, and ye shall know my reason for annulling my promise. ³⁵ I, the LORD, have spoken, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation that are gathered together against me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

³⁷ even those men that brought an evil report of the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

⁶⁴ And among these there was not a man of those whom Moses and Aaron the priest had numbered when they numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, except Caleb, the son of Jephunneh and Joshua, the son of Nun.

³⁴ And the LORD heard the voice of your words and was angry and swore, saying, ³⁵ Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see that good land, which I swore to give unto your fathers,

¹⁵ For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the camp until they were consumed. ¹⁶ So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people

³² For all this they sinned still and did not give him credit for his wondrous works. ³³ Therefore he consumed their days in vanity and their years in tribulation. ³⁴ When he slew them, then they sought him, and they returned and enquired early after God.

¹ A Prayer of Moses the man of God. ¶ Lord, thou hast been our refuge from generation to generation.

⁷ ¶ For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath we are troubled. ⁸ Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

¹¹ unto whom I swore in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

²⁶ Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness,

¹⁷ But with whom was he indignant forty years? Was it not with those that had sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness?

⁵ I will, therefore, remind you, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those that did not believe.

⁴ ¶ And the vulgar who were mixed in among them returned to their lust; and even the sons of Israel wept and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

³¹ ¶ And there went forth a wind from the LORD and brought quail from the sea and left them upon the camp, a day’s journey on this side and a day’s journey on the other side, round about the camp and almost two cubits high upon the face of the earth. ³² Then the people stood up all that day and all that night and all the next day, and they gathered the quail; he that gathered least gathered ten heaps, and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp. ³³ And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague. ³⁴ And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah because there they buried the people that lusted.

²⁷ He rained flesh also upon them as dust and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: ²⁸ And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations. ²⁹ So they did eat and were well filled; for he gave them their own desire; ³⁰ they were not estranged from their lust. But while their food was yet in their mouths, ³¹ the wrath of God came upon them and slew the fattest of them and smote down the chosen of Israel.

¹⁴ They gave themselves over to lust in the wilderness and tempted God in the desert. ¹⁵ And he gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.

⁶ I have caused the Gentiles to be cut off: their castles are desolate; I made their streets waste until no one passes by; their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man left, there is no inhabitant. ⁷ Saying, Surely now thou wilt fear me; thou wilt receive chastisement; so thy dwelling shall not be thrown down, all of which I visited upon her; but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.

¹⁴ Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even in those that did not sin after the manner of the rebellion of Adam, who is a figure of him that was to come.

¹¹ Now all these things happened unto them as types, and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

¹¹ ¶ Let us therefore make haste to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.

²⁴ For Christ is not entered into the sanctuary made with hands (which is a figure of the true), but into the heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us,

²¹ ¶ Unto the figure of which the baptism that does now correspond saves us (not taking away the uncleanness of the flesh, but giving testimony of a good conscience before God) by the resurrection of Jesus, the Christ,

⁶ and if he condemned by destruction the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha, turning them into ashes, making them an example unto those that after should live without fear and reverence of God;

⁷ Even as Sodom and Gomorrha and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication and going after strange flesh, were set forth for an example, having received the judgment of eternal fire.

⁴ who took them from their hands and fashioned it with a graving tool and made of it a molten calf. Then they said, These are thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

⁶ And they rose up early on the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink and rose up to play. ⁷ ¶ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go, descend; for thy people, which thou didst bring out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: ⁸ They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them; they have made themselves a molten calf and have worshipped it and have sacrificed unto it and said, These are thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁷ And Joshua, hearing the noise of the people as they shouted, said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp.

¹⁹ And it came to pass as soon as he came near unto the camp and he saw the calf and the dances, anger caused Moses to wax hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mount.

¹² And the LORD said unto me, Arise, go down quickly from here, for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made themselves a molten image.

¹⁶ and I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the LORD your God and had made yourselves a molten calf; ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded you. ¹⁷ Then I took the two tables and cast them out of my two hands and broke them before your eyes. ¹⁸ And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water because of all your sins in which ye sinned in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. ¹⁹ For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also. ²⁰ And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him, and I prayed for Aaron also the same time. ²¹ And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire and stamped it and ground it very small even until it was as small as dust, and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.

¹⁹ They made a calf in Horeb and worshipped the molten image. ²⁰ Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eats grass.

¹¹ But now I have written unto you not to associate with anyone calling himself a brother if he is a fornicator or covetous or an idolater or a railer or a drunkard or an extortioner; with such a one do not even eat.

⁹ ¶ Know ye not that the unjust shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor effeminate nor homosexuals

⁷ ¶ Howbeit there is not in everyone that knowledge, for some with conscience of the idol unto now, eat it as a thing offered unto an idol, and their conscience being weak is defiled.

¹⁴ Therefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

²⁰ Brothers, be not children in understanding, howbeit in malice be ye children; but in understanding be perfect. ²¹ ¶ In the law it is written, In other tongues and with other lips I will speak unto this people; and yet for all that, they will not hear me, saith the Lord. ²² Therefore, tongues are for a sign, not to those that believe, but to those that do not believe; but prophecy is not for those that do not believe, but for those who believe.

²¹ Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

¹ ¶ And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to fornicate with the daughters of Moab, ² who called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods; and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. ³ And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor; and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel. ⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the princes of the people and disjoint them before the LORD hanging them from a tree against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel. ⁵ Then Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor. ⁶ ¶ Then, behold, one of the sons of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the testimony. ⁷ And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation and took a javelin in his hand; ⁸ and he went after the man of Israel into the tent and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. So the plague of the sons of Israel was stayed. ⁹ And those that died in that plague were twenty-four thousand.

²⁹ Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions; and the plague broke in upon them.

¹⁸ Flee fornication. Any other sin that a man does is outside the body, but he that commits fornication sins against his own body.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against thee because thou hast there those that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols and to commit fornication.

² And the people chided with Moses and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? Why do ye tempt the LORD?

⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah because of the chiding of the sons of Israel and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?

²⁰ ¶ Behold, I send the Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. ²¹ Keep thyself before him and hear his voice, grieve him not; for he will not pardon your rebellion, for my name is in him.

⁵ And the people spoke against God and against Moses, Why have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loathes this light bread. ⁶ And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many people of Israel died.

¹⁶ Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.

¹⁸ And they tempted God in their heart by asking for food according to the desires of their soul.

⁵⁶ Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God and did not keep his testimonies:

⁹ When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.

¹⁴ They gave themselves over to lust in the wilderness and tempted God in the desert.

⁸ harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: ⁹ Where your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. ¹⁰ Therefore, I was indignant with that generation and said, They do always err from their heart, and they have not known my ways. ¹¹ So I swore in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.

²⁸ He that despised the law of Moses died without mercy under two or three witnesses: ²⁹ Of how much greater punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden underfoot the Son of God and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing and has done despite unto the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know who he is that has said, Vengeance belongs to me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

²³ For the LORD will pass through smiting the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood upon the lintel and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over that door and will not allow the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.

²⁴ Then the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

² And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness; ³ and the sons of Israel said unto them, It would have been better if we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots and when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger. ⁴ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather the word for every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not. ⁵ And it shall come to pass that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in, which shall be twice as much as they gather daily. ⁶ Then Moses and Aaron said unto all the sons of Israel, At evening ye shall know that the LORD has brought you out from the land of Egypt; ⁷ And in the morning ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for he has heard your murmurings against the LORD; and what are we, that ye murmur against us? ⁸ And Moses said, This shall be when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat and in the morning bread to the full; for the LORD has heard your murmurings which ye have murmured against him; and what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD. ⁹ And Moses spoke unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the sons of Israel, Come near before the LORD, for he has heard your murmurings.

² And the people chided with Moses and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? Why do ye tempt the LORD? ³ So the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses and said, Why hast thou brought us up out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?

² And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, and the whole congregation said unto them, Oh, that we might die in the land of Egypt or that we might die in this wilderness!

²⁷ How long shall I hear this evil congregation, which murmurs against me, the complaints of the sons of Israel, which they murmur against me? ²⁸ Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, according as ye have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you. ²⁹ Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness, all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me; ³⁰ doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

⁴¹ ¶ But on the next day all the congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the LORD.

⁴⁶ And Moses said unto Aaron, Take the censer and put fire in it from off the altar and put incense upon it and go quickly unto the congregation and reconcile them; for the wrath has gone out from before the face of the LORD; the plague is begun. ⁴⁷ Then Aaron took his censer as Moses said and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people; and he put on incense and reconciled the people. ⁴⁸ And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. ⁴⁹ Now those that died in that plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those that died concerning the matter of Korah.

¹⁶ And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD himself repented of that evil and said to the angel that was destroying the people, It is enough; stay now thy hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingfloor of Araunah, the Jebusite.

¹⁵ And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it; and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented of that evil and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thy hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan, the Jebusite.

²¹ And the LORD sent an angel who cut off all the mighty men of valour and the captains and the princes in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And as he entered into the house of his god, those that had come forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

²⁵ But murmured in their tents and did not hearken unto the voice of the LORD.

³⁹ and the enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. ⁴⁰ As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so shall it be in the end of this age. ⁴¹ The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend and those who do iniquity ⁴² and shall cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him because he did not give God the glory, and he expired eaten of worms.

¹⁴ ¶ Do all things without murmurings and doubts,

⁷ and to give you, who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with the angels of his power, ⁸ with flaming fire, to take vengeance on those that do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,

²⁸ By faith he kept the passover and the sprinkling of the blood lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

¹⁶ These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own desires; and their mouth speaks arrogant things, admiring persons to take advantage.

¹ ¶ And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

²³ ¶ Now it is not written for his sake alone that it was so reckoned to him,

¹¹ ¶ And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awaken ourselves out of sleep, for now is our saving health nearer than when we believed.

⁴ For the things that were written beforehand were written for our instruction that we, through patient endurance and through the comfort of the scriptures, might have hope.

²⁹ But this I say, brothers, the time is short; for the rest, let those that have wives be as though they had none;

¹⁰ Or does he say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that plows should plow in hope, and that he that threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope.

⁵ Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is near.

²⁵ not forsaking our gathering together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another and so much the more, when ye see that day approaching.

³⁷ For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come and will not tarry.

¹⁸ ¶ Little children, it is the last hour, and as ye have heard that the antichrist comes, likewise there are also beginning to be many antichrists, by which we know that it is the last time.

¹⁸ ¶ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

¹⁴ ¶ Blessed is the man that fears God always, but he that hardens his heart shall fall into evil.

³³ Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended in thee, yet I will never be offended. ³⁴ Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times.

⁴⁰ And he came unto the disciples and found them asleep and said unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? ⁴¹ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

²⁰ Good; because of their unbelief they were broken off, but thou by faith art standing. Do not be highminded, but fear

⁶ And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes, that in us ye might not learn above that which is written, lest because of one, some of you become puffed up against others. ⁷ ¶ For who makes thee to judge? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, what dost thou glory of, as if thou hadst not received it? ⁸ Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye reign as kings without us, and I wish ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.

² And if anyone thinks that they know anything, they know nothing yet as they ought to know.

¹⁷ Ye, therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things in advance, be on guard lest by the error of the wicked ye be deceived with the others and fall from your own steadfastness.

¹⁷ Because thou sayest, I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing and knowest not that thou art wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, ¹⁸ I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined in the fire, that thou may be made rich; and clothed in white raiment, so that the shame of thy nakedness not be uncovered; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou may see.

²⁰ Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one; Oh, let me escape there, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. ²¹ And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also that I will not overthrow the city for which thou hast spoken.

¹⁷ and I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite unto a land flowing with milk and honey.

⁹ Know, therefore, that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with those that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations

⁵ ¶ Thy mercy, O LORD, reaches unto the heavens, and thy truth reaches unto the clouds.

³³ Nevertheless I will not take my mercy from him, neither will I falsify my truth.

⁷ Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare has broken, and we are escaped.

³ For the rod of wickedness shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous because the righteous shall not put forth their hands unto iniquity.

⁵ And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faith the girdle of his kidneys.

¹ ¶ O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee; I will praise thy name for thou hast done wonders, the counsels of old, the truth unchanging.

⁷ ¶ Thus has the LORD said, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, to him whom man despises, to him whom the Gentiles abhor, to the slave of the tyrants, Kings shall see and be raised up as princes and shall worship because of the LORD, for faithful is the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen thee.

⁵ If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, in which thou didst trust, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

¹¹ For I know the thoughts that I think concerning you, said the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you the end that you wait for.

²³ Chet They are new every morning; great is thy faith.

¹⁷ Behold, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

²⁰ I will even betroth thee unto me in faith: and thou shalt know the LORD.

²¹ for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. ²² And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. ²³ Then if any man shall say unto you, Behold, here is the Christ, or there, believe it not. ²⁴ For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders in such a manner that they shall deceive, if possible, the very elect.

⁴ And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

²⁶ And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who would pass from here to you cannot; neither can they pass from there to us.

³¹ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat; ³² but I have prayed for thee that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

⁴⁶ and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

²⁸ and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone pluck them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. ³⁰ I and my Father are one.

⁴⁴ and the rest, some on boards and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass that they were all saved by making it to land.

²⁸ And we now know that unto those who love God, all things help them unto good, to those who according to the purpose are called to be saints. ²⁹ ¶ For unto those whom he knew beforehand, he also marked out beforehand the way that they might be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. ³⁰ And unto those whom he did mark out beforehand the way, to these he also called; and to whom he called, these he also justified; and to whom he justified, these he also glorified. ³¹ ¶ What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who shall be against us? ³² He that did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also give us all things with him? ³³ Who shall accuse the chosen of God’s? God is he that justifies them. ³⁴ Who is he that condemns them? Christ, Jesus, is he who died and, even more, he that also rose again, who furthermore is at the right hand of God, who also makes entreaty for us. ³⁵ Who shall separate us from the charity of Christ? shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? ³⁶ (As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.) ³⁷ Nevertheless, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. ³⁸ Therefore I am certain that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come ³⁹ nor height nor depth nor any creature shall be able to separate us from the charity of God, which is in Christ, Jesus our Lord.

⁹ God is faithful, by whom ye were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. ¹⁰ who delivered us from so great a death and does deliver; in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more, in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths often. ²⁴ Of the Jews five times I received forty stripes less one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned; three times I suffered shipwreck, night and day I have been in the deep; ²⁶ in journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by those of my nation, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; ²⁷ in labour and travail, in many watches, in hunger and thirst, in many fasts, in cold and nakedness. ²⁸ Beside those things that are without, my daily combat is the welfare of all the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}.

⁸ For this thing I besought the Lord three times that it might be taken from me. ⁹ And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather glory in my weaknesses that the power of Christ may dwell in me. ¹⁰ Therefore I am content in weaknesses, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake, for when I am weak, then am I strong.

¹² For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the lords of this age, rulers of this darkness, against spiritual wickedness in the heavens. ¹³ Therefore, take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day and stand fast, all the work having been finished.

²⁴ Faithful is he that has called you, who will also do it.

³ But the Lord is faithful, who shall confirm you and keep you from evil.

¹¹ This is a faithful word: That if we are dead with him, we shall also live with him; ¹² if we suffer, we shall also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; ¹³ if we are unfaithful, yet he remains faithful; he cannot deny himself.

¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work and will save me for his heavenly kingdom, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁸ that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us,

²³ let us hold fast the profession of our hope without wavering (for he is faithful that promised).

¹¹ By faith also Sara herself being sterile received strength to conceive seed and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she believed him to be faithful who had promised.

³⁵ women received their dead raised to life again, and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance that they might obtain a better resurrection; ³⁶ and others experienced cruel mockings and scourgings, and added to this, bonds and imprisonment; ³⁷ they were stoned; they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword; they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; poor, afflicted, mistreated, ³⁸ (of whom the world was not worthy); they wandered in deserts and in mountains and in dens and caves of the earth.

⁴ ¶ Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, fighting against sin.

¹⁰ Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. ¹¹ Behold, we count blessed those who endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very merciful, and full of compassion.

⁵ who are kept in the virtue of God by faith, to attain unto the saving health which is made ready to be manifested in the last time. ⁶ ¶ In which ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are afflicted in diverse temptations, ⁷ that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold (which perishes, nevertheless it is tried with fire), might be found unto praise and glory and honour when Jesus, the Christ, is made manifest;

¹⁹ Therefore, let those that are afflicted according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls unto him as unto a faithful Creator, doing good.

⁸ ¶ Be temperate and vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour, ⁹ resist him steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are to be accomplished in the company of your brethren that are in the world.

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished;

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer; behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days; be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.

¹⁰ Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the entire world, to try those that dwell upon the earth.

¹¹ ¶ And I saw the heaven open, and behold a white horse; and he that was seated upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.

¹⁹ Not defending yourselves, dearly beloved; but rather give place unto the wrath of God, for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

⁷ Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.

²⁰ But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God; and I would not that ye should be participants of demons. ²¹ Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; ye cannot be participants of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.

¹⁷ Therefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you

¹ ¶ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹¹ Why? because I do not love you? God knows.

¹⁵ And I will very gladly spend and be utterly spent for your souls though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.

¹⁹ Again, do ye think that we excuse ourselves unto you? We speak before God in Christ, but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.

¹ ¶ Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

¹ ¶ Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy, our brother, unto Philemon, our dearly beloved and fellowlabourer,

¹¹ Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from the carnal desires which war against the soul

⁸ And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship it, whose names are not written in the book of the life of the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world.

⁸ But the fearful and unbelieving and the abominable and murderers and fornicators and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

¹⁵ But outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the fornicators and the murderers and the idolaters and whosoever loves and makes a lie.

² Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge. ³ For the ear tries words, as the mouth tastes food.

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are prudent in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.

⁵ I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brothers?

¹ ¶ Now as concerning things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but charity edifies.

¹³ Judge in yourselves: is it honest that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

²⁰ Brothers, be not children in understanding, howbeit in malice be ye children; but in understanding be perfect.

²¹ Examine all things; retain that which is good.

²² And as they were eating, Jesus took bread and, blessing it, broke it and gave to them and said, Take, eat: this is my body. ²³ And taking the cup, having given thanks, he gave it to them; and they all drank of it. ²⁴ And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many. ²⁵ Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

¹⁹ And taking bread, having given thanks, he broke it and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. ²⁰ Likewise also he took and gave them the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

⁴² ¶ And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship and in breaking of bread and in prayers.

⁴⁶ And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food together with gladness and singleness of heart,

⁷ ¶ And the first of the sabbaths, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart the next day, and continued his word until midnight.

¹¹ When he therefore was come up again and had broken bread and eaten and talked a long while, even until day break, thus he departed.

²³ ¶ For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread; ²⁴ and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you; this do in remembrance of me. ²⁵ After the same manner also he took the cup, after he had eaten supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood; do this each time that ye drink, in remembrance of me. ²⁶ For each time that ye eat this bread and drink this cup, ye declare the Lord’s death until he comes. ²⁷ Therefore whoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. ²⁸ But let each man prove himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. ²⁹ For he that eats and drinks unworthily, eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

¹³ For by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether we are Jews or Greeks, whether we are slaves or free, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

¹⁴ For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end;

³ that which we have seen and heard we declare unto you, that ye also may have communion with us; and truly our communion is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have communion with him in the midst of us, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son cleanses us from all sin.

⁵ likewise many of us are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

³ and did all eat the same spiritual food ⁴ and did all drink the same spiritual drink, for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them; and that Rock was the Christ.

²¹ Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; ye cannot be participants of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.

²⁶ For each time that ye eat this bread and drink this cup, ye declare the Lord’s death until he comes. ²⁷ Therefore whoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. ²⁸ But let each man prove himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

¹² ¶ For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also the Christ.

²⁷ ¶ Now ye are the body of Christ and members in particular.

²⁶ For ye are all sons of God by faith in Christ Jesus. ²⁷ For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. ²⁸ Here there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

²² And has put all things under his feet and gave him to be the head over all things to the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, ²³ which is his body, and he is the fullness of her: who fills all things in everyone.

¹⁵ abolishing in his flesh the enmity, which was the law of commandments in the order of rites, to edify in himself the two in one new man, making peace, ¹⁶ and to reconcile both with God by the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} in one body, having slain the enmity thereby;

⁶ that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs and of the same body and partakers of his promise in the Christ by the gospel,

⁴ There is one body and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling,

¹² for the perfecting of the saints in the work of the ministry, unto the edifying of the body of the Christ ¹³ until we all come forth in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the coming of age of the Christ:

¹⁶ From whom the whole body fitly joined together and well tied together among itself by the nourishment that every connecting bond supplies, by the operation of each member according to measure they have received, making increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in charity.

²⁵ Therefore, leaving the lie, speak every man truth with his neighbour, for we are members one of another.

¹⁹ and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, fed and united by its joints and bonds, grows in the increase of God.

¹¹ where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian nor Scythian, slave nor free: but Christ is all and in all.

¹⁵ And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, into which likewise ye are called into one body, and be ye thankful.

³ Then he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace for an offering on fire unto the LORD: the fat that covers the intestines and all the fat that is upon the inwards, ⁴ and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, which is by the flanks and with the kidneys; he shall take away the caul above the liver. ⁵ And Aaron’s sons shall incense it on the altar with the burnt sacrifice, which shall be upon the wood that is on the fire; and this shall be an offering on fire, of a very acceptable aroma unto the LORD.

¹¹ And the priest shall incense it upon the altar, and this shall be the food of the offering on fire unto the LORD.

⁶ Every male among the priests shall eat thereof; it shall be eaten in the holy place for it is most holy.

¹¹ ¶ And this shall be the law of the sacrifice of peace, which shall be offered unto the LORD. ¹² If it is offered in thanksgiving, then he shall offer for the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mingled with oil and unleavened wafers anointed with oil and cakes mingled with oil, of fine flour, fried. ¹³ With cakes of leavened bread he shall offer his offering in the sacrifice of thanksgiving of his peace. ¹⁴ And out of the whole offering he shall offer part to be elevated in offering unto the LORD, and it shall be the priest’s that sprinkles the blood of the peace. ¹⁵ And the flesh of his sacrifice of peace for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day that it is offered; he shall not leave any of it until the morning. ¹⁶ But if the sacrifice of his offering is a vow, or voluntary, it shall be eaten the same day that he offers his sacrifice; and that which is left of it shall be eaten the next day; ¹⁷ but that which is left of the flesh of the sacrifice on the third day shall be burnt with fire.

¹³ It was the priests’ custom with the people that when anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come, while the flesh was being boiled, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand; ¹⁴ and he would strike it into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot, and all that the fleshhook brought up, the priest took for himself. Thus would they do in Shiloh to all the Israelites that went there. ¹⁵ Likewise, before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant would come and say to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest, for he will not take cooked flesh of thee, but raw. ¹⁶ And if the man would say unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat today and then take as much as thy soul desires, then he would answer him, No, but thou shalt give it to me now, and if not, I will take it by force.

¹² And they answered them and said, He is; behold, he is before you; make haste now, for he came today to the city, for there is a sacrifice of the people today in the high place. ¹³ As soon as you are come into the city, ye shall straightway find him before he goes up to the high place to eat, for the people will not eat until he comes because he must bless the sacrifice, and afterwards those that are invited eat. Now therefore go up, for about this time ye shall find him.

³ of his Son (who was born unto him of the seed of David according to the flesh,

¹ ¶ What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, has found?

¹² that he be the father of the circumcision: not only to those who are of the circumcision, but also unto those who walk in the steps of the faith that was in our father Abraham before he was circumcised.

³ For I could wish that myself were anathema from Christ for my brethren, those who are my kinsmen according to the flesh, ⁴ who are Israelites, to whom pertains the adoption as sons and the glory and the covenants and the giving of the law and the service of God and the promises, ⁵ whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh is the Christ, who is God over all things, blessed for all the ages. Amen. ⁶ ¶ Not as though the word of God has been deficient. For not all the descendants of Israel are Israelites; ⁷ neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are all sons, but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. ⁸ That is, Those who are sons of the flesh, these are not the sons of God; but those who are sons of the promise are counted in the generation.

¹³ Do ye not know that those who work with sacred things live of the things of the sanctuary? and those who serve at the altar partake of the altar?

¹⁸ Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also. ¹⁹ For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise. ²⁰ For ye suffer it if anyone brings you into bondage, if anyone devours you, if anyone takes of you, if anyone exalts himself, if anyone smites you on the face. ²¹ I speak as concerning the reproach, as though we had been weak. Howbeit in that in which another is bold, (I speak foolishly), I am bold also. ²² ¶ Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I.

¹⁶ And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

¹¹ ¶ Therefore remember that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who were called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh, which is made by hands, ¹² that at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world,

³ For we are the circumcision, who serve God in spirit and glory in Christ Jesus, having no confidence in the flesh. ⁴ ¶ Though I might also have reason to confide in the flesh. If any other man thinks that he has whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: ⁵ Circumcised the eighth day, of the lineage of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee;

²¹ They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities; and I also will move them to jealousy with those who are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with foolish Gentiles.

¹⁷ All the Gentiles are as nothing before him, and they are counted to him as vanity and as less than nothing.

²⁹ Behold, they are all vanity; their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion.

²⁸ and that which is vile of the world and that which is despised God has chosen, and things which are not, to bring to nought the things that are,

⁷ So then neither is he that plants anything, neither he that waters, but God that gives the increase.

⁴ ¶ As concerning, therefore, the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

² And though I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

¹¹ ¶ I have been a fool, glorying; ye have compelled me; for I ought to have been commended of you, for in nothing am I behind the grandiose apostles, though I am nothing.

⁷ And they shall never again offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they fornicate. They shall have this as a perpetual statute throughout their ages.

¹⁶ They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods; with abominations they provoked him to anger. ¹⁷ They sacrificed unto devils, not to God, to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came from nearby, whom your fathers feared not.

¹⁵ And he ordained himself priests for the high places and for the demons and for the calves which he had made.

³⁷ Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils ³⁸ and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood. ³⁹ Thus they were defiled with their own works and went a whoring with their own inventions.

⁴ In whom the god of this age has blinded the understanding of those who do not believe, that the light of the gospel of the glory of the Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine in them.

²⁰ And the rest of the men who were not killed by these plagues did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons and the images of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which neither can see nor hear nor walk.

³⁷ And he shall say, Where are their gods, their strong one in whom they trusted, ³⁸ who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up and help you, and be your protection.

²¹ ¶ And Elijah came near unto all the people and said, How long shall ye halt between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him. And the people did not answer him a word.

¹¹ ¶ But ye that forsake the LORD, that forget the mountain of my holiness, that prepare a table unto fortune, and that furnish the drink offering for destiny;

²⁴ No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and riches.

¹⁰ For if anyone sees thee who hast this knowledge sit at food in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols?

¹⁶ The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the fellowship of the blood of the Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the fellowship of the body of the Christ?

¹⁵ And what concord does Christ have with Belial? or what part do the faithful have with the unfaithful? ¹⁶ And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them and walk in them and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ¹⁷ Therefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you

⁵ Thou shalt not bow down to them nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons unto the third and fourth generation of those that hate me

¹⁴ for thou shalt worship no other god; for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

²⁴ For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

¹⁵ (for the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest peradventure the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

¹⁶ They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods; with abominations they provoked him to anger.

¹⁹ Then Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD, for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not allow your rebellions nor your sins.

⁴ He is wise in heart and mighty in strength; who has hardened himself against him and remained in peace?

⁹ Hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like him? ¹⁰ Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty. ¹¹ Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath; and behold every one that is proud and bring him down. ¹² Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. ¹³ Hide them in the dust together; and blindfold their faces in darkness. ¹⁴ Then I will also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.

⁵⁸ For they provoked him to anger with their high places and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

¹⁰ He that is has been named already; and it is known that he is man and that he shall not be able to contend with him that is mightier than he.

⁹ Woe unto him that strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashions it, What doth thou make; thy work has no form?

¹⁴ Can thine heart endure, or can thine hands be strong in the days that I shall deal with thee? I the LORD have spoken it and will do it.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath, but the whole earth shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all those that dwell in the earth.

³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

¹⁵ But if thy brother is grieved because of thy food, now thou dost not walk in charity. Do not destroy him with thy food, for whom Christ died.

¹⁹ Let us, therefore, follow after the things which make for peace and the edification of each one to the others. ²⁰ Because of food, do not destroy the work of God. All things indeed are clean, but it is evil for that man who eats with offense.

¹ ¶ We then that are stronger ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not please ourselves. ² Let each one of us please his neighbour in that which is good, unto edification.

¹² ¶ All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient; all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

⁹ But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours becomes a stumblingblock to those that are weak.

³ But he that prophesies speaks unto men for edification and exhortation and comfort. ⁴ He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself, but he that prophesies edifies the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}. ⁵ I would that ye all spoke with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied, for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, unless he interprets, that the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} may receive edifying.

¹² Even so ye, forasmuch as ye desire the things of the Spirit, earnestly pursue excellence unto the edification of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}.

¹⁷ For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

²⁶ ¶ How is it then, brothers? when ye come together, each one of you has a psalm, has doctrine, has tongues, has revelation, has interpretation. Let all things be done unto edification.

²⁹ Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good for edification, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

¹¹ ¶ Therefore comfort and edify one another, even as ye do.

⁴ nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which generate questions other than that the edification of God is by faith.

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, though I am free regarding everyone, yet I have made myself slave unto all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to those that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those that are under the law; ²¹ to those that are without law, as without law (being not without law of God, but under the law of Christ), that I might gain those that are without law. ²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak; I am made all things to everyone, that I might by all means save some. ²³ And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker together of it.

³³ even as I please everyone in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

⁵ is not injurious, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil,

¹⁴ Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be burdensome to you, for I seek not your things, but you; for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

⁴ with each one not looking to their own things, but also to the things of others. ⁵ Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,

²¹ For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.

¹⁵ And the voice spoke unto him again the second time, That which God has cleansed, do not call common.

⁵ Therefore it is necessary that ye be subject, not only for punishment, but also for conscience sake.

¹⁴ I know and trust in the Lord Jesus that for his sake there is nothing unclean, but to him that esteems any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

²⁷ If any of those that do not believe bid you to a feast, and ye are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you asking no questions for conscience sake. ²⁸ But if anyone says unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, do not eat it for the sake of him that disclosed it and for conscience sake; for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof: ²⁹ conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other, for why should my liberty be judged by another man’s conscience?

⁴ For everything that God created is good, and nothing is to be refused, if it is received with thanksgiving,

¹⁵ For unto the pure all things are pure, but unto those that are defiled and unfaithful, nothing is pure, but even their soul and conscience is defiled.

⁵ Now therefore, if ye will give ear to hearken unto my voice and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a special treasure unto me above all peoples; for all the earth is mine.

¹⁴ Behold, the heavens and the heaven of heavens are of the LORD thy God, the earth also, with all that is therein.

¹¹ ¶ Who has preceded me, that I should repay him? All that is under the whole heaven is mine.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ The earth is the LORD’s, and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.

¹² If I were hungry, I would not tell thee; for the world is mine and the fullness thereof.

²⁸ But if anyone says unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, do not eat it for the sake of him that disclosed it and for conscience sake; for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof:

¹⁷ Charge those that are rich in this world, that they not be highminded, not placing their hope in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;

²⁹ And Levi made a great banquet in his own house and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down at the table with them. ³⁰ But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

⁷ And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. ⁸ And into whatever city ye enter and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you

²³ and bring here the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and be merry;

⁷ And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

⁹ ¶ I wrote unto you in an epistle not to associate with fornicators, ¹⁰ yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world or with the covetous or extortioners or with idolaters, for then ye would need to go out of the world. ¹¹ But now I have written unto you not to associate with anyone calling himself a brother if he is a fornicator or covetous or an idolater or a railer or a drunkard or an extortioner; with such a one do not even eat.

²⁵ Whatever is sold in the market, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake;

¹³ For we write no other things unto you than what ye read or also know, and I trust ye shall know them even to the end

² but remove from ourselves every hidden shameful thing, not walking in craftiness, nor adulterating the word of God, but in the manifestation of the truth, commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

¹¹ Therefore being certain of that terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God, and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

²⁹ And Moses replied unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will extend my hands unto the LORD; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou may know how that the earth is the LORD’s.

¹⁶ The heavens are the heavens of the LORD, but the earth he has given to the sons of Adam.

⁵ I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom was upright in my eyes. ⁶ And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my slave; and even the beasts of the field I have given him that they might serve him.

³¹ Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, With what shall we be clothed? ³² For the Gentiles seek after all these things.) For your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things.

¹⁰ For if anyone sees thee who hast this knowledge sit at food in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols? ¹¹ and through thy knowledge the weak brother shall perish, for whom Christ died. ¹² In this manner, therefore, sinning against the brethren and wounding their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. ¹³ Therefore, if food makes my brother to fall, I will never eat flesh nor do anything which may cause my brother to fall.

²⁶ for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.

¹⁵ But if thy brother is grieved because of thy food, now thou dost not walk in charity. Do not destroy him with thy food, for whom Christ died. ¹⁶ Let not then your good be evil spoken of; ¹⁷ for the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ For he that in these things serves the Christ is well pleasing unto God and approved of men. ¹⁹ Let us, therefore, follow after the things which make for peace and the edification of each one to the others. ²⁰ Because of food, do not destroy the work of God. All things indeed are clean, but it is evil for that man who eats with offense. ²¹ It is good neither to eat flesh nor to drink wine nor do any thing by which thy brother stumbles or is offended or is sick.

⁹ But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours becomes a stumblingblock to those that are weak.

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, though I am free regarding everyone, yet I have made myself slave unto all, that I might gain the more.

³² Be without offense, neither to the Jews nor to the Gentiles nor to the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God;

²¹ providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

²² Separate yourselves from all appearance of evil.

⁶ He that observes the day, let him observe it unto the Lord; and he that does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He that eats, eats unto the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he that does not eat, unto the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.

³ they shall forbid to marry and shall command men to abstain from foods, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who are faithful and have known the truth. ⁴ For everything that God created is good, and nothing is to be refused, if it is received with thanksgiving,

⁷ and there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye and your households shall rejoice in every work of your hands in which the LORD thy God has blessed thee.

¹² and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God, ye and your sons and your daughters and your menslaves and your maidslaves and the Levite that is within your gates because he has no part nor inheritance with you.

¹⁸ But thou must eat them before the LORD thy God in the place which the LORD thy God shall have chosen, thou and thy son and thy daughter and thy manslave and thy maidslave and the Levite that is within thy gates; and thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God in all the work of thy hands.

¹⁶ So the people went forth and brought them and made themselves booths, each one upon the roof of his house and in their courts and in the courts of the house of God and in the plaza of the water gate and in the plaza of the gate of Ephraim. ¹⁷ And all the congregation of those that returned out of the captivity made booths and dwelt in the booths, for since the days of Jeshua, the son of Nun, unto that day, the sons of Israel had not done so. And there was very great joy. ¹⁸ And Ezra read in the book of the law of God each day, from the first day unto the last day. And they kept the feast seven days, and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the ordinance.

⁵ Speak unto all the people of the land and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me? ⁶ And when ye ate, and when ye drank, did ye not eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?

⁴¹ But rather give alms {lit. do acts of mercy} of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

³⁴ There is a difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit; but she that is married cares for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

¹⁷ And whatever ye do whether in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to the God and Father by him.

²³ And whatever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men,

¹¹ If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God; if anyone ministers, let them do it according to the virtue which God gives, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus, the Christ, unto whom is glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

²⁸ Take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has placed you as bishops to feed the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.

¹⁶ And for this reason do I exercise myself to have always a conscience void of offense toward God and toward men.

¹³ Let us, therefore, not judge one another any more, but judge this rather: that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.

¹³ Therefore, if food makes my brother to fall, I will never eat flesh nor do anything which may cause my brother to fall.

²² What? Do ye not have houses to eat and to drink in? or do ye despise the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God and shame those that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.

³ Giving no offense in anything, that the ministry not be blamed,

¹⁰ that ye may approve the best, that ye may be sincere and without offense until the day of Christ,

⁵ (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God?)

¹⁵ But if I tarry long, that thou may know how it is expedient to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of the living God, the pillar and base of the truth.

¹⁴ if in any manner I may provoke my nation to jealousy and cause some of them to be saved.

² Let each one of us please his neighbour in that which is good, unto edification. ³ For the Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of those that reproached thee fell on me.

²⁴ Let no one seek his own good, but that of the other.

²⁸ Beside those things that are without, my daily combat is the welfare of all the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}. ²⁹ Who is sick, and I am not sick? who stumbles, and I burn not?

¹⁰ ¶ For do I now persuade men or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the slave of Christ.
