⁷ Now therefore there is certainly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather suffer the wrong? why do ye not rather be defrauded?

⁵ then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

⁸ keeping the paths of judgment and the way of his merciful ones. ⁹ Then shalt thou understand righteousness and judgment and equity, yea, every good path. ¹⁰ ¶ When wisdom enters into thine heart and knowledge is sweet unto thy soul,

²² ¶ Say not thou, I will take vengeance, but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

² Their heart has wandered; now they shall be found guilty: he shall break down their altars, he shall destroy their statues.

³⁹ but I say unto you, That ye resist not with evil, but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. ⁴⁰ And if anyone desires to sue thee at the law, and take away thy clothing, let him have thy cloak also. ⁴¹ And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him two.

²⁹ And unto the one that smites thee on the one cheek offer also the other, and to the one that takes away thy cloak defend not thy coat also.

¹⁷ Not repaying anyone evil for evil; procuring that which is good not only in the sight of God, but even in the sight of all men. ¹⁸ If it can be done, as much as is possible on your part, live in peace with all men. ¹⁹ Not defending yourselves, dearly beloved; but rather give place unto the wrath of God, for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

¹⁵ See that no one renders evil for evil unto anyone, but always follow that which is good, both among yourselves and to all men.

¹ ¶ Where do the wars and disputes come from among you? From here that is to say, of your lusts which fight in your members? ² Ye covet and have not; ye murder, and have envy and cannot obtain; ye fight and war and have not that which ye desire because ye ask not. ³ Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your pleasures.

¹⁹ For this is due to grace, if a man for conscience toward God endures grief, suffering wrongfully. ²⁰ For what glory is it if, when ye are buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is due to grace from God. ²¹ Because for this were ye called: for the Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps ²² who did no sin neither was guile found in his mouth, ²³ who, when he was cursed, did not return the curse; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but committed himself to him that judges righteously;

⁹ not rendering evil for evil or curse for curse, but to the contrary, blessing, knowing that ye are called, that ye should possess a blessing by inheritance.
