¹ ¶ Since the Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, be ye also armed with the same thought; for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, ² so that now the time that remains in the flesh, he might live, not unto the lusts of men, but unto the will of God. ³ For it should suffice us that during the time past of our life we had done the will of the Gentiles, when we conversed in lasciviousness, lusts, drunkenness, gluttony, orgies, and abominable idolatries. ⁴ ¶ And it seems strange to those that speak evil of you, that ye do not run with them to the same unchecked dissolution; ⁵ the same shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead. ⁶ Because for this cause was the gospel preached also to those that are dead, that they might be judged in flesh according to men, but live in spirit according to God. ⁷ ¶ But the end of all things is at hand; be ye, therefore, temperate and watch unto prayer. ⁸ And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves; for charity shall cover a multitude of sins. ⁹ Lovingly be hospitable one to another without murmuring. ¹⁰ Let each one according to the gift that he has received, administer it unto the others, as a good steward of the diverse graces of God. ¹¹ If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God; if anyone ministers, let them do it according to the virtue which God gives, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus, the Christ, unto whom is glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. ¹² ¶ Beloved, think it not strange when you are tried by fire (which is done to prove you) as though some strange thing happened unto you, ¹³ but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of the afflictions of the Christ, so that also in the revelation of his glory, ye may rejoice in triumph. ¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; for the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you; certainly on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. ¹⁵ So let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as desirous of the things of others. ¹⁶ But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf. ¹⁷ For it is time that the judgment begins from the house of God; and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of those that do not obey the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And if the righteous are saved with difficulty, where shall the unfaithful and the sinner appear? ¹⁹ Therefore, let those that are afflicted according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls unto him as unto a faithful Creator, doing good.

¹⁶ ¶ Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil;

⁴¹ And they shall burn thine houses with fire and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women; and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou also shalt give no hire any more.

² No, in no wise. How shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein?

⁷ For he that is dead is justified from sin.

¹¹ Likewise also reckon yourselves to be truly dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.

¹² The night is past, and the day is come; let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us clothe ourselves with the weapons of light. ¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. ¹⁴ But be clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not listen to the flesh, to fulfil its desires.

²⁰ I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

²⁴ For those that are of the Christ have crucified the flesh with its affections and lusts.

¹³ Therefore, take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day and stand fast, all the work having been finished.

⁵ Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,

³ For ye are dead and your life is hid with the Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is our life, shall be manifested, then shall ye also be manifested with him in glory. ⁵ ¶ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil lust, and covetousness, which is idolatry;

¹⁰ For he that is entered into his rest, he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

³ For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself lest ye be wearied in your souls and faint.

¹⁸ ¶ For the Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in spirit,

¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God. Let thy good Spirit lead me into the land of uprightness.

⁷ But they have transposed the covenant as of men: there they have rebelled against me.

²¹ ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in the heavens.

⁵⁰ For whosoever shall do the will of my Father who is in the heavens, the same is my brother and sister and mother.

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go ahead of you into the kingdom of God.

³⁵ For whosoever doeth the will of God, the same is my brother and my sister and my mother.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth the evil thoughts, the adulteries, the fornications, the murders,

¹³ who are not born of blood, nor of the will of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

¹⁷ If anyone desires to do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it is of God or whether I speak of myself.

⁴ Likewise ye also, my brethren, are become dead to the law in the body of the Christ that ye should belong to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

² And be not conformed to this age, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your soul that ye may experience what is that good and well pleasing and perfect will of God.

⁷ For none of us live for ourselves, and no one dies for himself.

¹⁵ And that he died for all that those who live should not live from now on unto themselves, but unto him who died and rose again for them.

¹⁹ For through the law I am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. ²⁰ I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

³ among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind and were by nature the children of wrath, even as all the others.

¹⁷ ¶ This I say, therefore, and require in the Lord that from now on ye not walk as the other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their own senses,

²² that ye put off everything concerning the old way of life, that is, the old man who corrupts himself according to deceitful desires, ²³ and be renewed in the spirit of your understanding ²⁴ and that ye put on the new man, which is created in conformity to God in righteousness and in the holiness of the truth.

⁷ Be not ye, therefore, partakers with them. ⁸ For in another time ye were darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord: walk as children of light;

¹⁷ Therefore, be ye not unwise, but understanding of what the will of the Lord is.

⁶ not to be seen as only pleasing men, but as the slaves of the Christ, doing the will of God from within,

⁹ ¶ For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, asking that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding,

⁷ in which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. ⁸ ¶ But now put ye also off all these things: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a slave of Christ, salutes you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand firm, perfect and fulfilled in all the will of God.

¹⁸ In every thing give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

³ For we ourselves also were foolish in another time, rebellious, deceived, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. ⁴ But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, ⁵ not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, ⁶ which he poured out abundantly in us through Jesus, the Christ, our Saviour; ⁷ that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. ⁸ The Word is faithful, and I desire that thou affirm this constantly, that those who have believed God might be careful to conduct themselves in good works. This is good and profitable unto men.

²¹ make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for the ages of the ages. Amen.

¹⁸ He, of his own will, has begotten us with the word of truth, that we should be the firstfruits of his creatures.

¹⁴ as obedient sons, not conforming yourselves with the former desires that you had before in your ignorance,

¹ ¶ Having therefore left all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envies and all murmurings,

¹⁴ and unto governors as unto those that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those that do well. ¹⁵ For this is the will of God, that in well doing ye may silence the ignorance of vain men,

¹⁷ And the world passes away and the lust thereof, but he that does the will of God abides for ever.

³⁰ keep thyself from being snared by following them, after they are destroyed from before thee; enquire not after their gods, saying, After the manner that these Gentiles served their gods, even so will I do likewise. ³¹ Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God; for every abomination unto the LORD, which he hates, they have done unto their gods; for they have even burnt their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.

²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon, then kill him. Fear not; have I not commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant.

²⁶ He was very abominable, following idols, according to all the things that the Amorites did, whom the LORD cast out before the sons of Israel.)

⁸ ¶ And when Asa heard the words and prophecy of Oded, the prophet, he was comforted and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin and out of the cities which he had taken in Mount Ephraim and repaired the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.

²⁹ ¶ For who shall be the woe? for who shall be the woe? for who contention? for who quarrels? for who the wounds without cause? who shall have redness of eyes? ³⁰ For those that tarry long at the wine; those that go to seek mixed wine. ³¹ Do not look upon the wine when it is red, when it gives its colour in the cup, it goes down smoothly. ³² At the last it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder. ³³ Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. ³⁴ Yea, thou shalt be as he that lies down in the midst of the sea or as he that sleeps at the rudder. ³⁵ They have stricken me, thou shalt say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not; when I shall awake, I will seek it yet again.

¹¹ Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning that they may continue their drunkenness; that continue until night until wine inflames them!

⁷ But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink; they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

⁴ who remain asleep among the graves, and lodge in the deserts, who eat swine’s flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;

¹⁸ But first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double because they have defiled my land with the carcasses of their abominations, and they have filled my inheritance with abominable things.

⁶ And thou shalt say to the rebellious, even to the house of Israel, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: O ye house of Israel, let all your abominations cease.

⁹ ¶ Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Let it suffice you, O princes of Israel, remove violence and spoil, and execute judgment and righteousness, take away your exactions from my people, said the Lord GOD.

²² the thefts, the covetousness, the wickedness, the deceit, the lasciviousness, the evil eye, the slander, the pride, the unwiseness:

³⁰ For the times of this ignorance God overlooked, but he now commands all men everywhere to repent

²⁰ For the invisible things of him, his eternal power and divinity, are clearly understood by the creation of the world and by the things that are made so that there is no excuse; ²¹ because having known God, they did not glorify him as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. ²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools ²³ and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man and of birds and of fourfooted beasts and of serpents. ²⁴ Therefore God also gave them over to the lusts of their own hearts for uncleanness, to contaminate their own bodies between themselves, ²⁵ who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for all ages. Amen. ²⁶ For this cause God gave them up unto shameful affections, for even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature; ²⁷ and likewise also the males, leaving the natural use of the females, burned in their lust one toward another, males with males committing nefarious works and receiving in themselves the recompense that proceeded from their error. ²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a perverse understanding, to do those things which are not convenient, ²⁹ being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, ³⁰ backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, ³¹ without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, without mercy. ³² Who having understood the righteousness of God, they did not understand that those who do such things are worthy of death, not only those that do the same, but even those who encourage those that do them.

¹² Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. ¹³ For if ye live according to the flesh, ye shall die; but if through the Spirit ye mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

¹¹ And such were some of you, but now ye are washed, but now ye are sanctified, but now ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and in the Spirit of our God.

² Ye know that when ye were Gentiles, ye went, even as ye were led, unto the dumb idols.

²¹ lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and I would have to mourn over many who have sinned already and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; which I denounce, as I have also told you in time past that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

² in which in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the will of the prince of the power of this air, the spirit that now works in the sons of disobedience, ³ among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind and were by nature the children of wrath, even as all the others.

¹⁷ ¶ This I say, therefore, and require in the Lord that from now on ye not walk as the other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their own senses, ¹⁸ having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them because of the blindness of their heart, ¹⁹ who, after losing all sense of feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness.

¹⁸ And be not drunk with wine, in which there is excess, but be filled with the Spirit,

⁵ not with affection of lust, as the Gentiles who do not know God,

³ For we ourselves also were foolish in another time, rebellious, deceived, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

⁴ For there are certain men crept in unawares without fear or reverence of God, who from beforehand have been ordained unto this condemnation, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness and denying God who alone has dominion, and our Lord Jesus, the Christ.

⁴ And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and of the filthiness of her fornication; ⁵ and upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

²⁵ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup or of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and incontinence.

¹³ And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together and took his journey into a far country and there wasted his estate with riotous living.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy and spoke against that which Paul said, contradicting and blaspheming.

⁶ And when they opposed themselves and blasphemed, he shook his raiment and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from now on I will go unto the Gentiles.

¹² and have your honest conversation among the Gentiles, so that, in that which they murmur about you as of evildoers, having witnessed your good works, they may glorify God in the day of visitation.

¹⁶ ¶ having a good conscience, so in that which they murmur against you as of evildoers, those that blaspheme your good conversation in the Christ may be confused.

¹² But these, speaking evil of the things that they do not understand (as natural animals without reason, who are made to be taken and destroyed), shall utterly perish in their own corruption,

²² But it has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog returns unto his own vomit, and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

¹⁰ But these speak evil of those things which they do not know; but what they know by nature as animals without reason, in those things they corrupt themselves.

⁶ For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

¹⁴ For God shall bring every work to judgment with every secret thing, whether it is good or whether it is evil.

³⁰ ¶ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, each one according to his ways, said the Lord GOD. Repent and turn yourselves from all your iniquities, so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

¹³ ¶ Your words have prevailed against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken against thee? ¹⁴ Ye have said, It is vain to serve God, and what profit is it that we have kept his law and that we walk mournfully before the LORD of the hosts? ¹⁵ We say, therefore, now, that blessed are the proud and even that those that work wickedness are prospered; those that tempted God have escaped.

³⁶ But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

³¹ ¶ When the Son of man shall come in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he shall sit upon the throne of his glory, ³² and before him shall be gathered all nations; and he shall separate them one from another as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats, ³³ and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. ³⁴ Then shall the King say unto those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; ³⁵ for I was hungry, and ye gave me food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; ³⁶ naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. ³⁷ Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee? or thirsty and give thee drink? ³⁸ When did we see thee a stranger and take thee in? or naked and clothe thee? ³⁹ Or when did we see thee sick or in prison and come unto thee? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers, ye have done it unto me. ⁴¹ Then he shall also say unto those who shall be on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into eternal fire, prepared for the devil and his angels; ⁴² for I was hungry, and ye gave me no food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink; ⁴³ I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick and in prison, and ye visited me not. ⁴⁴ Then they shall also answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister unto thee? ⁴⁵ Then he shall answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of my brothers, ye did it not to me. ⁴⁶ And they shall go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

² And he called him and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? Give an account of thy stewardship, for thou may no longer be steward.

²² For the Father judges no man but has committed all judgment unto the Son ²³ that everyone should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who has sent him.

²⁸ Marvel not at this, for an hour shall come when all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, ²⁹ and those that have done good shall come forth unto the resurrection of life; but those that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment.

⁴² And he commanded us to preach unto the people and to testify that it is he who is ordained of God to be the Judge of living and dead.

³¹ because he has appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he has ordained; of whom he has given assurance unto all men in that he has raised him from the dead.

¹⁰ But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou belittle thy brother? for we shall all stand before the tribunal of the Christ. ¹¹ For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. ¹² So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.

⁵¹ ¶ Behold, I show you a mystery: We shall all indeed be raised, but we shall not all be changed; ⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised without corruption, and we shall be changed.

¹ ¶ I charge thee, therefore, before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead in his appearing and in his kingdom:

⁹ Complain not one against another, brethren, that ye not be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door.

¹⁴ And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his saints ¹⁵ ¶ to execute judgment upon all and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have unfaithfully committed and of all the hard words which the unfaithful sinners have spoken against him.

⁹ Then they shall deliver you up to be afflicted and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour shall come, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, so has he given to the Son to have life in himself

² For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ, Jesus, has made me free from the law of sin and death.

⁹ But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, because the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, that person is not of him. ¹⁰ ¶ But if Christ is in you, the body is truly dead because of sin, but the Spirit is alive because of righteousness. ¹¹ And if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he that raised up the Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.

³¹ For if we would examine ourselves, we should not be judged. ³² But being judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

¹⁹ For through the law I am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

²⁵ If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

¹⁹ in which he also went and preached unto the imprisoned spirits,

¹⁸ And another angel came out from the altar, who had power over fire, and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

² It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.

³¹ The prophets prophesied falsely, and the priests bore rule by their hands; and my people love to have it so. What will ye do in the end thereof?

² and thou son of man, thus hath the Lord GOD said unto the land of Israel: The end, the end comes upon the four corners of the land. ³ Now shall be the end upon thee, and I will send my anger upon thee and will judge thee according to thy ways and will recompense upon thee all thine abominations.

⁶ An end is come, the end is come; it watches for thee; behold, it is come.

¹³ But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. ¹⁴ And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come.

⁴² Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

¹³ Watch, therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man comes.

³⁸ Then he said unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death; tarry ye here and watch with me. ³⁹ And he went a little further and fell on his face, praying and saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. ⁴⁰ And he came unto the disciples and found them asleep and said unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? ⁴¹ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

³³ Take ye heed, watch and pray; for ye know not when the time shall be. ³⁴ As the man who, taking a far journey, left his house and gave his estate to his slaves and to each one his responsibility and commanded the porter to watch. ³⁵ Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the Lord of the house comes: at evening or at midnight or at the cockcrowing or in the morning, ³⁶ lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. ³⁷ And what I say unto you, I say unto all: Watch.

³⁷ And he came and found them sleeping and said unto Peter: Simon, sleepest thou? Could thou not watch one hour? ³⁸ Watch ye and pray; enter not into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is sick.

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with excess and drunkenness and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

³⁶ Watch ye therefore and pray always that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass and to stand before the Son of man.

⁴⁶ and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

¹² rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, constant in prayer,

¹¹ ¶ And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awaken ourselves out of sleep, for now is our saving health nearer than when we believed. ¹² The night is past, and the day is come; let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us clothe ourselves with the weapons of light.

²⁹ But this I say, brothers, the time is short; for the rest, let those that have wives be as though they had none;

²⁴ Then comes the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

¹⁸ praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching in this with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints

⁵ Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is near.

² ¶ Persevere in prayer and watch in the same with thanksgiving,

⁶ ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For those that sleep in the night, and those that are drunken are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet, the hope of saving health.

⁵ But watch thou in all things, labour, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry.

¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world;

²⁵ not forsaking our gathering together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another and so much the more, when ye see that day approaching.

⁸ Be ye also patient and confirm your hearts, for the coming of the Lord draws near. ⁹ Complain not one against another, brethren, that ye not be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door.

¹³ ¶ Therefore, having the loins of your understanding girded with temperance, wait perfectly in the grace that is presented unto you when Jesus, the Christ, is manifested unto you,

⁷ Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them wisely, giving honour unto the woman, as unto a more fragile vessel and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers not be hindered.

⁸ ¶ Be temperate and vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour,

⁹ ¶ The Lord is not late concerning his promise, as some count lateness, but is patient with us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. ¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements, burning, shall be dissolved, and the earth and the works that are in it shall be burned up. ¹¹ ¶ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

¹⁸ ¶ Little children, it is the last hour, and as ye have heard that the antichrist comes, likewise there are also beginning to be many antichrists, by which we know that it is the last time. ¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us; but this happened that it might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

¹⁵ Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watches and keeps his garments lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

¹² ¶ Hatred stirs up strifes, but love covers all sins.

¹⁶ ¶ A fool’s wrath is presently known, but he who covers the injury is sane.

⁹ ¶ He that covers a transgression seeks love, but he that repeats a matter separates very friends.

¹³ ¶ For him that answers a word before he hears, it is folly and reproach unto him.

¹ ¶ Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.

¹ ¶ Follow after charity and earnestly pursue spiritual gifts, but above all, that ye may prophesy.

¹⁴ And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfection.

¹² And the Lord make you to multiply and make charity to abound among you and toward all men, even as it is with us toward you,

⁹ ¶ But as touching love among the brethren, ye need not that I write unto you, for ye yourselves have learned of God that ye are to show charity to one another. ¹⁰ And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia, but we beseech you, brethren, that ye continue to grow

³ We must thank God always for you, brethren, as is due because your faith grows exceedingly, and the charity of each and every one of you toward each other abounds,

⁵ ¶ Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart and of a good conscience and of faith unfeigned:

¹ ¶ Let brotherly love continue.

¹² ¶ But above all things, my brethren, do not swear by heaven or by the earth or by any other oath, but let your yes be yes and your no, no; lest ye fall into condemnation.

²⁰ let that one know, that whosoever causes the sinner to convert from the error of his way shall save a soul from death and shall cover a multitude of sins.

²² Having purified your souls in the obedience of the truth, by the Spirit, in unfeigned brotherly love, love one another with a pure heart fervently,

⁶ and in knowledge, temperance; and in temperance, patience; and in patience, fear of God; ⁷ and in fear of God, brotherly love; and in brotherly love, charity.

² Beloved, I wish that thou be prospered in all things and be sound, even as thy soul prospers.

¹³ sharing for the needs of the saints, and given to hospitality.

²³ Gaius my host, and of the whole congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, salutes you. Erastus, the chamberlain of the city, salutes you, and Quartus, a brother.

⁷ Each one according as they purpose in their heart, so let them give, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

¹⁴ ¶ Do all things without murmurings and doubts,

² It is expedient, therefore, that the bishop be blameless, the husband of only one wife, vigilant, temperate, of worldly affections mortified, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

⁸ but a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, temperate, just, holy, gentle,

¹⁴ but I did not want to do anything without thy counsel, that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

² Do not forget to show hospitality; for thereby some, having entertained angels, were kept.

¹⁶ Do not forget to do good and to fellowship; for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

¹⁴ And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come.

²¹ for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

⁴⁵ Who then is the faithful and prudent slave, whom his lord has made ruler over his household to give them food in due season?

¹⁴ ¶ For it is like a man travelling into a far country, who called his own slaves and delivered unto them his goods. ¹⁵ And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each one according to his faculty, and straightway took his journey.

⁴⁴ Then they shall also answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and did not minister unto thee?

⁴⁵ For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to serve and to give his life in ransom for many.

³ and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who ministered unto him of their substance.

⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward whom his lord shall make ruler over his household to give them their portion of food in due season?

¹ ¶ And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. ² And he called him and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? Give an account of thy stewardship, for thou may no longer be steward. ³ Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord takes the stewardship away from me; I cannot dig, and I am ashamed to beg. ⁴ I know what I shall do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. ⁵ So he called each one of his lord’s debtors unto him and said unto the first, How much dost thou owe unto my lord? ⁶ And he said, A hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill and sit down quickly and write fifty. ⁷ Then said he to another, And how much dost thou owe? And he said, A hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill and write eighty. ⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward because he had done discreetly; for the sons of this age are in their generation more prudent than the sons of light.

¹³ And having called ten of his slaves, he delivered them ten minas and said unto them, Trade until I come.

⁶ So that having different gifts according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, according to the measure of faith; ⁷ or ministry, in serving; or he that teaches, in doctrine; ⁸ he that exhorts, in exhortation; he that gives, let him do it in simplicity; he that presides, in earnest care; he that shows mercy, in cheerfulness.

²⁵ But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints.

²⁷ It has pleased them verily, and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, they should also minister unto them in carnal things.

¹⁰ According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another builds upon it. But let each one see how the building is built.

¹ ¶ Let us reckon men as ministers of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. ² Moreover, it is required in stewards that each one be found faithful.

⁷ ¶ For who makes thee to judge? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, what dost thou glory of, as if thou hadst not received it?

⁴ Now there is dispersal of gifts, but the same Spirit. ⁵ And there is dispersal of ministries, but the same Lord. ⁶ And there is dispersal of operations, but it is the same God who works all in each one. ⁷ But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one to profit with. ⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit a word of wisdom; to another, a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; ⁹ to another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by the same Spirit; ¹⁰ to another, the operation of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, discerning of spirits; to another, different kinds of tongues; to another, the interpretation of tongues: ¹¹ one and the same Spirit operates all these things, dispersing to each one his own gift as he wills.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am; and his grace towards me was not in vain, for I laboured more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

¹ ¶ We then, as workers together with him, exhort you also that ye have not received the grace of God in vain.

¹ ¶ For regarding the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you:

⁸ Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of the Christ

¹¹ And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers,

¹⁸ The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day; and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

⁷ For the bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God; not arrogant, not quick to anger, not given to wine, not hurtful, not greedy of dishonest gain,

¹⁰ For God is not unjust to forget your work and labour of charity which ye have showed in his name, having helped the saints and helping them.

¹¹ Thine, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the honour, for all things in the heavens and in the earth are thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. ¹² The riches and the glory are before thee, and thou dost reign over all, and in thy hand is power and might and in thy hand the greatness and the strength of all things. ¹³ Now, therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. ¹⁴ But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come of thee and of thine own have we given thee. ¹⁵ For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers; our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no other hope. ¹⁶ O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee a house for thy holy name comes of thy hand and is all thy own.

¹³ Mem Thy kingdom is a kingdom of all ages, and thy dominion endures throughout all generations.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

²² But if they had stood in my secret, they would also have caused my people to hear my words, and they would have caused them to return from their evil way and from the evil of their doings.

³ How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

³⁴ ¶ But at the end of the time I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up my eyes unto heaven, and my understanding was returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and glorified him that lives for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is through all ages:

¹⁴ And he gave him dominion and glory and kingdom; and all the peoples, nations, and tongues served him: his dominion is an eternal dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom such that it shall never be corrupted.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

³⁸ This is he, who was in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him in the Mount Sinai and with our fathers, who received the oracles of life to give unto us;

² Much in every way: first, certainly, that the oracles of God have been entrusted unto them.

³⁶ For of him and by him and in him are all things. To him be the glory for the ages. Amen.

²⁷ to God, only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.

²⁰ For ye are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

³¹ Whether therefore ye eat or drink or whatever ye do, do everything for the glory of God.

⁴ Now there is dispersal of gifts, but the same Spirit.

¹³ that by the experience of this ministration, they glorify God for the obedience of your consent unto the gospel of the Christ and in your liberal distribution unto them and unto everyone,

²⁰ Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, ²¹ unto him be glory in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} by Christ Jesus throughout all generations of the ages of the ages. Amen.

²⁹ Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good for edification, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

²⁰ giving thanks always for all things unto the God and Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹⁰ ¶ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.

¹¹ being filled with fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is Lord in the glory of God the Father.

⁶ Let your word be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer each one.

¹⁷ Therefore unto the King forever, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁶ the only one who has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto, whom no man has seen nor can see, to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

¹² For you should now be teaching others, if we look at the time, yet you need to be taught again which are the first elements of the oracles of God and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong food.

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

²⁶ If anyone among you thinks to be religious and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, his religion is vain.

¹ ¶ My brethren, make not unto yourselves many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. ² For we all offend in many things. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to govern the whole body with restraint. ³ Behold, we put bits (or restraint) in the horses’ mouths to persuade them, and we govern their whole body. ⁴ Behold also the ships, which though they are so great are driven of fierce winds, yet they are governed with a very small rudder, wherever the governor desires. ⁵ In the same manner, the tongue is a very small member and boasts of great things. Behold, how great a forest a little fire kindles! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

⁵ ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, well pleasing to God by Jesus, the Christ.

¹⁰ Let each one according to the gift that he has received, administer it unto the others, as a good steward of the diverse graces of God.

¹¹ To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

²⁵ to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, now and in all the ages. Amen.

⁵ and from Jesus, the Christ, who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins with his own blood ⁶ and has made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

¹² saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to take power and riches and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing. ¹³ And I heard every creature which is in heaven and upon the earth and under the earth and such as are upon the sea and all that are in it, saying, Blessing and honour and glory and power, be unto him that is seated upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four animals said, Amen. And the twenty-four elders fell on their faces and worshipped him that lives for ever and ever.

²¹ For the LORD shall rise up as in Mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.

³⁵ And some of the wise shall fall to be purged and cleaned and made white, even to the time of the end because even for this there is time appointed.

¹³ the work of each one shall be made manifest, for the day shall declare it because it shall be revealed by fire; the work of each one, whatever sort it is, the fire shall put it to test.

¹³ No temptation has taken you but such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

² and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of the Christ, to confirm you and to exhort you in your faith, ³ that no one should be moved in these tribulations, for you know that we are appointed for this. ⁴ For even when we were with you, we told you in advance that we must pass through tribulations, even as it has come to pass, and ye know.

¹² And all that desire to live godly in Christ Jesus shall also suffer persecution.

⁶ ¶ In which ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are afflicted in diverse temptations, ⁷ that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold (which perishes, nevertheless it is tried with fire), might be found unto praise and glory and honour when Jesus, the Christ, is made manifest;

⁴ ¶ And it seems strange to those that speak evil of you, that ye do not run with them to the same unchecked dissolution;

⁹ resist him steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are to be accomplished in the company of your brethren that are in the world.

⁹ ¶ And it shall be said in that day, Behold, this is our God, whom we have waited for, and he has saved us: this is the LORD, whom we have waited for, we will be glad and rejoice in his saving health.

¹⁰ And the ransomed of the LORD shall return and come to Zion with songs; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads: they shall retain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

¹¹ Therefore the ransomed of the LORD shall return and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head; they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

¹² Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in the heavens; for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

²⁷ For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he shall reward everyone according to their works.

²¹ His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful slave; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

²³ His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful slave; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

³¹ ¶ When the Son of man shall come in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he shall sit upon the throne of his glory,

³⁴ Then shall the King say unto those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;

³⁸ Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you and when they shall separate you from their company and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil for the sake of the Son of man. ²³ Rejoice ye in that day and leap for joy; for, behold, your reward is great in heaven, for their fathers treated the prophets in the same manner.

³⁰ Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

²⁵ ¶ But at midnight as Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God, and the prisoners heard them,

³ And not only this, but we even glory in the tribulations, knowing that the tribulation works patience;

¹⁷ ¶ and if sons, also heirs certainly of God and joint-heirs with Christ, if so be that we suffer with him that we may be also glorified together with him.

⁷ ¶ And our hope of you is steadfast, being certain, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

¹⁰ always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

¹⁷ For our tribulation, which is momentary and light, prepares an exceeding and eternal weight of glory unto us;

⁹ And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather glory in my weaknesses that the power of Christ may dwell in me. ¹⁰ Therefore I am content in weaknesses, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake, for when I am weak, then am I strong.

¹⁰ That I may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death,

²⁴ who now rejoice in my sufferings for you and fulfill in my flesh that which is lacking of the tribulations of the Christ for his body’s sake, which is the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones},

⁷ and to give you, who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with the angels of his power, ⁸ with flaming fire, to take vengeance on those that do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, ⁹ who shall be punished with eternal destruction by the presence of the Lord and by the glory of his power, ¹⁰ when he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all those that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

¹² if we suffer, we shall also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;

² ¶ My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into diverse trials, ³ knowing that the proving of your faith works patience,

⁵ who are kept in the virtue of God by faith, to attain unto the saving health which is made ready to be manifested in the last time. ⁶ ¶ In which ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are afflicted in diverse temptations, ⁷ that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold (which perishes, nevertheless it is tried with fire), might be found unto praise and glory and honour when Jesus, the Christ, is made manifest; ⁸ whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though at present ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory;

¹ ¶ The elders who are among you I exhort (I am also an elder with them and a witness of the afflictions of the Christ, and also a participant of the glory that shall be revealed).

¹⁰ ¶ But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Jesus, the Christ, after ye have suffered a little while, he himself perfects, confirms, strengthens, and establishes you.

⁷ Behold, he comes with the clouds, and every eye shall see him and those also who pierced him; and all kindreds of the earth shall wail over him. Even so, Amen.

⁹ ¶ I John, your brother and participant in the tribulation and in the kingdom and in the patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

²⁵ Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke unto him and took of the spirit that was in him and gave it unto the seventy elders, and it came to pass that when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied and did not cease. ²⁶ But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad and the name of the other Medad, upon whom the spirit also rested; and they were of those that were written, but they had not gone unto the tabernacle; and they began to prophesy in the camp.

⁸ Blessed are thy men, blessed are these thy slaves, who stand continually before thee and that hear thy wisdom.

¹⁵ And seeing him, the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho said, The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. And they came to meet him and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

¹ A Psalm of David, Maschil. ¶ Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. ² Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD does not impute iniquity and in whose spirit there is no guile.

⁹ that he should still live for ever and not see corruption.

⁵¹ because thine enemies have dishonoured, O LORD; they have dishonoured the footsteps of thine anointed.

⁵ ¶ Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God;

² And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD,

⁷ Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; do not fear the reproach of men, neither be afraid of their revilings.

¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake.

¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in the heavens.

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you and when they shall separate you from their company and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil for the sake of the Son of man.

⁴⁷ Then the Pharisees answered them, Are ye also deceived? ⁴⁸ Have any of the princes or of the Pharisees believed on him? ⁴⁹ But this people who do not know the law are cursed. ⁵⁰ Nicodemus said unto them (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them), ⁵¹ Does our law judge any man before it hears him and knows what he does? ⁵² They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and see, for a prophet has never arisen out of Galilee.

⁴⁸ Then the Jews answered, and said unto him, Do we not say well that thou art a Samaritan and hast a demon?

²⁸ Then they reviled him and said, Be thou his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

³⁴ They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

²¹ But they will do all these things unto you for my name’s sake, because they do not know him that sent me.

¹⁰ Therefore I am content in weaknesses, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake, for when I am weak, then am I strong.

²⁴ And they glorified God in me.

¹⁰ when he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all those that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. ¹¹ ¶ Therefore in this manner we pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of his calling and fill each will with goodness and the work of faith with power ¹² that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be clarified in you, and ye in him, by the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁶ esteeming the reproach of the Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.

¹² Blessed is the man that patiently endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those that love him.

¹¹ Behold, we count blessed those who endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very merciful, and full of compassion.

¹⁹ For this is due to grace, if a man for conscience toward God endures grief, suffering wrongfully. ²⁰ For what glory is it if, when ye are buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is due to grace from God.

¹⁴ But also if ye suffer anything for righteousness’ sake, blessed are ye; therefore, be not afraid of their terror neither be troubled,

⁴ ¶ And it seems strange to those that speak evil of you, that ye do not run with them to the same unchecked dissolution; ⁵ the same shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.

² And many shall follow their pernicious ways, by reason of whom the way of truth shall be blasphemed;

¹¹ and that ye procure to be quiet and to do your business and to work with your hands, as we commanded you,

¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk among you out of order, not working at all, but are busybodies.

¹³ And reject also the idle, who have learned to wander about from house to house, and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

⁹ in which I suffer trouble, like unto an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

¹⁷ For it is better (if the will of God so desires) that ye suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

¹⁵ Therefore glorify ye the LORD in the valleys; let the LORD God of Israel be called upon by name in the isles of the sea.

⁷ For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore, I was not ashamed; therefore, I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

⁴ Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.

²⁶ And it came to pass that for a whole year they gathered themselves together with the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} and taught many people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

²⁸ Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

² by whom we also have access by faith into this grace in which we stand and glory in hope of the glory of the sons of God. ³ And not only this, but we even glory in the tribulations, knowing that the tribulation works patience; ⁴ and patience, experience; and experience, hope; ⁵ and the hope shall not be ashamed, because the love of God is poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given unto us.

¹³ Therefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. ¹⁴ ¶ For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ ¹⁵ (of whom the whole family in the heavens and on earth is named),

²⁰ according to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death.

²⁹ For unto you it is granted regarding Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake,

¹² For which cause I also suffer these things; nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

² with our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who having been offered joy, endured the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, despising the shame and was seated at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself lest ye be wearied in your souls and faint.

² ¶ My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into diverse trials, ³ knowing that the proving of your faith works patience, ⁴ and the patience finishes the work, that ye may be perfect and entire, not lacking in anything.

¹⁷ For it is better (if the will of God so desires) that ye suffer for doing good than for doing evil. ¹⁸ ¶ For the Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in spirit,

¹⁹ Therefore, let those that are afflicted according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls unto him as unto a faithful Creator, doing good.

¹² Therefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord has performed his whole work upon Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will come upon the fruit of the pride of the heart of the king of Assyria, and upon the glory of his high looks.

²⁹ For, Behold, I begin to bring evil upon the city which is called by my name, and should ye only be absolved? Ye shall not be absolved, for I bring the sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, said the LORD of the hosts.

¹² For thus hath the LORD said: Behold, those who were not condemned to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and shalt thou be absolved of everything? Thou shalt not be absolved, but thou shalt surely drink of it.

⁶ Slay the old, the young men, and the virgins, the children and the women, but do not come near anyone upon whom is the mark; and ye must begin from my sanctuary. Then they began with the men, the elders, which were in front of the temple.

² You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore, I will visit all your iniquities against you.

⁵ And I will come near unto you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers and against the adulterers and against false swearers and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and do not fear me, said the LORD of the hosts.

⁹ and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham as our father, for I say unto you that God is able to raise up children unto Abraham of these stones. ¹⁰ And now the axe is also laid unto the root of the trees; therefore, every tree which does not bring forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire.

²⁰ Then he began to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done because they repented not: ²¹ Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. ²² But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment than for you. ²³ And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to Hades, for if the mighty works which have been done in thee had been done in those of Sodom, it would have remained until this day. ²⁴ Therefore I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for thee.

¹² But I say unto you that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city. ¹³ Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which have been done in you, they would have repented a long while ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ Therefore it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.

⁴⁷ And that slave who knew his lord’s will and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ⁴⁸ But he that knew not and did commit things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom much was committed, more will be asked of him.

³¹ For if they do these things in the green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

⁹ Tribulation and anguish shall be upon every human soul that does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek;

¹ ¶ O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you that ye should not trust in the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ has been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

⁷ Ye did run well; who hindered you that ye should not trust in the truth?

⁸ with flaming fire, to take vengeance on those that do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,

² For if the word spoken by the ministry of angels was steadfast and every rebellion and disobedience received a just recompense of reward,

⁴ God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders and with diverse miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit, distributing them according to his own will?

⁹ and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal saving health unto all those that hearken unto him,

⁸ By faith Abraham, being called, hearkened to go out into the place which he should afterwards receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he went.

²⁴ and to Jesus, the mediator of the new testament and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaks better than that of Abel. ²⁵ See that you do not refuse him that speaks. For if those who refused him that spoke on earth did not escape, much less shall we escape, if we turn away from him that speaks from the heavens,

⁸ and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, even to those who stumble at the word, not obeying in that for which they were ordained.

¹³ But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

¹⁸ And the LORD sent thee on a journey and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners of Amalek and fight against them until they are consumed.

⁴ ¶ The ungodly are not so but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. ⁵ Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

³¹ ¶ The righteous shall certainly be recompensed in the earth; how much more the wicked and the sinner!

²⁴ But if the righteous should leave his righteousness and commit iniquity, and do according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All his righteousness that he has done shall not be mentioned; by his rebellion in which he has trespassed and by his sin which he has committed, because of them he shall die.

⁹ And I will put the third part into the fire and will refine them as silver is refined and will try them as gold is tried; He shall call on my name, and I will hear him; I will say, My people, and he shall say, The LORD is my God.

²² And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. ²³ Then if any man shall say unto you, Behold, here is the Christ, or there, believe it not. ²⁴ For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders in such a manner that they shall deceive, if possible, the very elect.

²⁰ And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved, but for the elect’s sake, whom he has chosen, he has shortened those days. ²¹ And then if anyone should say to you, Behold, here is the Christ, or, Behold, he is there, do not believe him; ²² for false Christs and false prophets shall rise and shall show signs and wonders to seduce, if possible, even the elect.

¹ ¶ Then all the publicans and sinners drew near unto him to hear him.

²² confirming the souls of the disciples and exhorting them to remain in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

²⁴ saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar; and, behold, God has given thee all those that sail with thee.

³¹ Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.

⁴² And the soldiers’ counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim out and escape. ⁴³ But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, frustrated this counsel and commanded that those who could swim should cast themselves first into the sea and get to land; ⁴⁴ and the rest, some on boards and some on broken pieces of the ship. And so it came to pass that they were all saved by making it to land.

¹⁸ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and injustice of men, who hold back the truth with injustice;

⁶ ¶ For the Christ, when we were yet weak, in his time died for the ungodly.

⁸ But God increased the price of his charity toward us in that while we were yet sinners the Christ died for us.

¹² Therefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

¹ ¶ Let us, therefore, fear, lest a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

³⁸ Now the just shall live by faith, but if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. ³⁹ But we are not of those who draw back unto perdition, but faithful unto the saving of the soul.

⁵ and if he did not forgive the old world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven other persons, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; ⁶ and if he condemned by destruction the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha, turning them into ashes, making them an example unto those that after should live without fear and reverence of God;

⁷ but the heavens, which are now, and the earth are conserved by the same word, kept unto the fire in the day of judgment and of perdition of the ungodly men.

¹⁵ ¶ to execute judgment upon all and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have unfaithfully committed and of all the hard words which the unfaithful sinners have spoken against him.

¹⁶ Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day; I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so I will go in unto the king, even though this is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish.

⁵ Into thy hand shall I commit my spirit; thou shalt ransom me, O LORD God of truth.

⁵ Gimel Turn thy way unto the LORD and wait in him, and he shall bring it to pass.

⁸ The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; thy mercy, O LORD, endures for ever; forsake not the works of thine own hands.

⁵ ¶ Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God; ⁶ who made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is therein; who keeps truth for ever:

²⁷ ¶ Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest thou, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God? ²⁸ Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard that the God of the age is the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth? He does not faint, nor is he weary; and there is no one that can attain to his intelligence.

⁷ even every one that is called by my name, for I have created them for my glory; I have formed them; yea, I have made them.

²¹ This people I have formed for myself; they shall show forth my praise.

¹² I, even I, am he that comforts you. Who art thou that thou should be afraid of man that is mortal and of the son of man which shall be counted as stubble? ¹³ And thou hast already forgotten the LORD thy maker that has stretched forth the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth and hast feared continually every day the fury of the oppressor when he was ready to destroy. But, where is the fury of the oppressor?

¹⁶ Behold, I have created the smith that blows the coals in the fire, and that brings forth the instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. ¹⁷ No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the slaves of the LORD, and their justice from me, said the LORD.

¹¹ Then the priests and the prophets spoke unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he has prophesied against this city as ye have heard with your ears. ¹² Then Jeremiah spoke unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard. ¹³ Therefore now amend your ways and your doings and hear the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD himself will repent of the evil that he has pronounced against you. ¹⁴ As for me, behold, I am in your hands; do with me as seems good and meet unto you. ¹⁵ But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and upon its inhabitants; for of a truth the LORD has sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.

¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, We are not careful to answer thee in this matter. ¹⁷ Behold, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. ¹⁸ But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not worship thy god, nor honour the statue which thou hast raised up.

¹⁰ Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he entered into his house; and with the windows open toward Jerusalem in his dining chamber, he knelt three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God as he was used to doing before. ¹¹ ¶ Then these men assembled and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

²² My God has sent his angel, who shut the lions’ mouths, that they do me no evil because before him righteousness was found in me; and even before thee, O king, I have done no corruption.

⁴⁶ Then Jesus cried out with a loud voice and said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit; and having said thus, he gave up the spirit.

⁵⁹ And they stoned Stephen calling upon God and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

¹¹ And when he was come unto us, he took Paul’s girdle and bound his own hands and feet and said, Thus saith the Holy Spirit, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owns this girdle and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. ¹² And when we heard these things, both we and those of that place besought him not to go up to Jerusalem. ¹³ Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. ¹⁴ And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, Let the will of the Lord be done.

⁷ to those who persevered in well doing, glory and honour and incorruption, to those who seek eternal life;

¹⁶ for by him were all things created, that are in the heavens and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they are thrones or dominions or principalities or powers: all things were created by him and in him; ¹⁷ And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. ¹⁸ And he is the head of the body, the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence. ¹⁹ For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell ²⁰ and by him to reconcile all things unto himself, having made peace through the blood of his cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, whether they are the things in the earth or the things in the heavens.

² has in these last times spoken unto us by his Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the ages; ³ who being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his substance and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

¹⁵ For this is the will of God, that in well doing ye may silence the ignorance of vain men,

¹² ¶ Beloved, think it not strange when you are tried by fire (which is done to prove you) as though some strange thing happened unto you, ¹³ but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of the afflictions of the Christ, so that also in the revelation of his glory, ye may rejoice in triumph. ¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; for the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you; certainly on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. ¹⁵ So let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as desirous of the things of others. ¹⁶ But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.

¹⁰ the twenty-four elders fall down before him that is seated on the throne and worship him that lives for ever and ever and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, ¹¹ Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and virtue; for thou hast created all things, and by thy will they have their being and were created.

⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open its seals, for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us unto God by thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation ¹⁰ and hast made us unto our God kings and priests, and we shall reign on the earth. ¹¹ And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and of the animals and of the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
