¹⁴ But now thy kingdom shall not stand; the LORD has sought a man after his own heart unto whom the LORD has commanded that he be captain over his people because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.

³⁰ Therefore, the LORD God of Israel said, I had said indeed that thy house and the house of thy father should walk before me for ever, but now the LORD said, It shall never be; for those that honor me I will honor, and those that lightly esteem me shall be vile.

¹⁶ Tomorrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be prince over my people Israel that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines, for I have looked upon my people because their cry is come unto me.

²⁸ And Samuel said unto him, The LORD has rent the kingdom of Israel from thee today and has given it to a neighbour of thine that is better than thou.

¹ ¶ And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill thy horn with oil and go; I will send thee to Jesse of Bethlehem for I have provided me a king among his sons.

¹² And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and of a beautiful countenance and handsome. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he.

² And even yesterday and the day before yesterday, when Saul was king over us, it was thou that didst lead out and bring in Israel; and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over Israel.

¹⁵ but my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I took away from before thee. ¹⁶ And thy house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee; thy throne shall be established for ever.

⁵ Turn again and tell Hezekiah, prince of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David, thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears; behold, I will heal thee; on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.

⁷⁰ He chose David also his slave and took him from the sheepfolds,

¹⁹ ¶ Then thou didst speak in vision to thy holy one and didst say, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of my people. ²⁰ I have found David my slave; I anointed him with the oil of my holiness, ²¹ with whom my hand shall be established; mine arm also shall strengthen him. ²² The enemy shall not overcome him, nor the son of iniquity break him down. ²³ But I will break down his foes before his face and smite those that hate him. ²⁴ But my truth and my mercy shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted. ²⁵ In the same manner I will set his hand also in the sea and his right hand in the rivers. ²⁶ He shall call me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my saving health. ²⁷ Also I will make him my firstborn, high above the kings of the earth. ²⁸ I will keep my mercy for him for ever, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. ²⁹ I will also make his seed to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of the heavens. ³⁰ If his sons forsake my law and do not walk in my judgments, ³¹ if they profane my statutes and do not keep my commandments, ³² then I will visit their rebellion with the rod and their iniquity with stripes. ³³ Nevertheless I will not take my mercy from him, neither will I falsify my truth. ³⁴ I will not profane my covenant, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. ³⁵ Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. ³⁶ His seed shall endure for ever and his throne as the sun before me. ³⁷ It shall be established for ever as the moon and as a faithful witness in heaven. ⁴⁶ who found grace before God and asked to provide a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.

²² And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king, to whom also he gave testimony, saying, I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who shall fulfil all my will.

¹⁰ ¶ For it was expedient that he, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, preparing to bring forth many sons in his glory, should perfect the author of their saving health through sufferings.
