² And every one that was in distress and every one that was in debt and all whose souls were bitter gathered themselves unto him, and he became the captain over them, and there were about four hundred men with him.

³ Then Jephthah fled from his brethren and dwelt in the land of Tob; and vain men joined themselves to Jephthah and went out with him.

²⁵ And the sons of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice be heard among us lest peradventure angry fellows run upon thee and thou lose thy life with the lives of thy household.

¹⁰ And she was in bitterness of soul and prayed unto the LORD and wept sore;

¹⁶ Tomorrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be prince over my people Israel that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines, for I have looked upon my people because their cry is come unto me.

¹³ So David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah and went from one place to another. And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah, and he forbare to go forth.

¹³ Then David said unto his men, Gird ye on each man his sword. And each one girded on his sword, and David also girded on his sword; and about four hundred men went up after David, and they left two hundred with the stuff.

¹⁵ But the men were very good unto us and never hurt us, neither did we miss anything all the time that we have been conversant with them when we were in the fields. ¹⁶ They were a wall unto us both by night and day all the time that we were feeding the sheep with them.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him because the soul of all the people was bitter, each one for his sons and for his daughters; but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

²² Then all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, answered and said, Because they did not go with us, we will not give them of the spoil that we have recovered, except to each man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away, and depart. ²³ Then David said, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD has given us, who has kept us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand. ²⁴ For who will hearken unto you in this matter? For as his part is that goes down to the battle, so shall his part be that remains by the stuff; they shall part alike.

² And even yesterday and the day before yesterday, when Saul was king over us, it was thou that didst lead out and bring in Israel; and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over Israel.

⁸ For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they are mighty men, and now their souls are bitter, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field. And thy father is a man of war and will not lodge with the people.

⁵ Turn again and tell Hezekiah, prince of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David, thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears; behold, I will heal thee; on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.

¹⁵ Now three of the thirty principal ones went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the camp of the Philistines was pitched in the valley of Rephaim. ¹⁶ And David was then in the fortress, and the Philistines’ garrison was then at Bethlehem. ¹⁷ And David longed and said, Oh, that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate! ¹⁸ And those three broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate and took it and brought it to David; but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD, ¹⁹ and said, May God keep me from doing this thing. Shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? For with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore, he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.

¹² For he shall deliver the destitute when he cries and the poor that has no helper. ¹³ He shall have mercy on the poor and destitute and shall save the souls of the poor in spirit. ¹⁴ He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence, and precious shall their blood be in his sight.

⁶ Give beer unto him that is ready to perish and wine unto those that have heavy hearts.

¹² But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, Those that are whole need not a physician, but those that are sick. ¹³ Therefore go ye and learn what this is, I will have mercy and not sacrifice, for I am not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.

¹² From the days of John the Baptist until now, life is given unto the kingdom of the heavens, and the valiant take hold of it.

²⁸ Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

²⁵ But he not having wherewith to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife and children and all that he had, to make payment. ²⁶ The slave therefore fell down and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. ²⁷ Then the lord of that slave was moved with compassion and loosed him and forgave him the debt. ²⁸ But as the same slave was leaving, he found one of his fellowslaves who owed him a hundred denarius, and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me what thou owest. ²⁹ And his fellowslave fell down at his feet and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. ³⁰ And he would not, but went and cast him into prison until he should pay the debt. ³¹ So when his fellowslaves saw what was done, they were very grieved and came and declared unto their lord all that was done. ³² Then his lord, after he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked slave, I forgave thee all that debt because thou didst beseech me; ³³ was it not also expedient unto thee to have mercy on thy fellowslave even as I had mercy on thee? ³⁴ And his lord was wroth and delivered him to the tormentors until he should pay all that was due unto him.

¹⁰ ¶ For it was expedient that he, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, preparing to bring forth many sons in his glory, should perfect the author of their saving health through sufferings.
