¹ ¶ The Word is faithful, If anyone desires the office of a bishop, {to be a pastor or elder in the congregation}, he desires a difficult ministry. ² It is expedient, therefore, that the bishop be blameless, the husband of only one wife, vigilant, temperate, of worldly affections mortified, given to hospitality, apt to teach; ³ not given to wine, not hurtful, not greedy of dishonest gain, but gentle, not contentious, not covetous; ⁴ one that rules well his own house, having his children in subjection with all integrity; ⁵ (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God?) ⁶ not a novice, lest being puffed up, he fall into judgment of the devil. ⁷ Moreover he must have a good report of those who are outside lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. ⁸ ¶ Likewise the deacons must be honest, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of dishonest gain; ⁹ holding the mystery of the faith together with a pure conscience. ¹⁰ And let these also first be proved; then let them minister, if they are blameless. ¹¹ The wives likewise are to be honest, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. ¹² Let the deacons be the husbands of only one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. ¹³ For those that minister well purchase to themselves a good degree and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁴ ¶ These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly ¹⁵ But if I tarry long, that thou may know how it is expedient to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of the living God, the pillar and base of the truth. ¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

³⁰ ¶ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that wins souls is wise.

¹⁰ Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents.

²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no one dwell therein, and let another take his office.

²⁸ Take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has placed you as bishops to feed the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.

¹³ For (I call you Gentiles) inasmuch as I am truly the apostle of the Gentiles, my honorable ministry,

¹² for the perfecting of the saints in the work of the ministry, unto the edifying of the body of the Christ

¹ ¶ Paul and Timothy, slaves of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

¹⁴ We also exhort you, brethren, that you warn those that are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient with everyone.

¹⁵ This is a faithful saying and worthy of acceptation by all, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first.

⁹ The Word is faithful and worthy of acceptation by all.

¹¹ This is a faithful word: That if we are dead with him, we shall also live with him;

⁷ For the bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God; not arrogant, not quick to anger, not given to wine, not hurtful, not greedy of dishonest gain,

⁸ The Word is faithful, and I desire that thou affirm this constantly, that those who have believed God might be careful to conduct themselves in good works. This is good and profitable unto men.

¹⁵ looking diligently that no one deviate from the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up impede you, and thereby many be defiled,

¹⁹ Brethren, if any of you have erred from the truth, and someone should convert him; ²⁰ let that one know, that whosoever causes the sinner to convert from the error of his way shall save a soul from death and shall cover a multitude of sins.

²⁵ For ye were as sheep that had gone astray, but are now converted unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

¹⁵ So let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as desirous of the things of others.

² Feed the flock of God which is among you, caring for her, not by force, but willingly; not for shameful lucre, but with willing desire;

¹⁰ His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant; they are all dumb dogs; they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, they love to slumber.

⁶ And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless.

¹³ sharing for the needs of the saints, and given to hospitality.

¹⁵ that ye may be blameless and innocent, children of God without rebuke in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world,

¹⁰ And let these also first be proved; then let them minister, if they are blameless. ¹¹ The wives likewise are to be honest, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

³ they shall forbid to marry and shall command men to abstain from foods, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who are faithful and have known the truth.

⁹ Let a widow be placed on the list being not less than sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,

²⁴ That the slave of the Lord should not be contentious, but be meek unto everyone, apt to teach, patient,

⁶ ¶ He who is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children who can not be accused of dissoluteness, nor insubordinate. ⁷ For the bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God; not arrogant, not quick to anger, not given to wine, not hurtful, not greedy of dishonest gain, ⁸ but a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, temperate, just, holy, gentle, ⁹ holding fast the doctrine according to the faithful word, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

² that the aged men be temperate, venerable, prudent, sound in faith, in charity, in tolerance.

¹⁴ For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end;

² Do not forget to show hospitality; for thereby some, having entertained angels, were kept.

⁷ ¶ But the end of all things is at hand; be ye, therefore, temperate and watch unto prayer.

⁹ Lovingly be hospitable one to another without murmuring.

⁸ ¶ Be temperate and vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour,

⁹ Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee when ye go into the tabernacle of the testimony, lest ye die; it shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations;

¹⁵ Likewise, before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant would come and say to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest, for he will not take cooked flesh of thee, but raw. ¹⁶ And if the man would say unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat today and then take as much as thy soul desires, then he would answer him, No, but thou shalt give it to me now, and if not, I will take it by force. ¹⁷ Therefore, the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD, for men despised the present of the LORD.

³ And his sons did not walk in his ways but turned aside after greed, receiving bribes and perverting that which is right.

²⁰ ¶ But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master has spared Naaman, this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him and take something from him. ²¹ So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him and said, Is there no peace? ²² And he said, Peace. My master has sent me, saying, Behold, even now two young men of the sons of the prophets came to me from Mount Ephraim; give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver and two changes of garments. ²³ And Naaman said, If you wish take two talents. And he urged him and bound two talents of silver in two bags with two changes of garments and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bore them before him. ²⁴ And when he came to a secret place, he took them from their hand and bestowed them in the house; and he let the men go, and they departed. ²⁵ But when he went in and stood before his master, Elisha said unto him, From where comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went nowhere. ²⁶ Then he said unto him, Did not my heart go with thee when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money and to receive garments and oliveyards and vineyards and sheep and oxen and menslaves and maidslaves? ²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

¹⁹ So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain which takes away the life of those who possess it.

²⁷ ¶ He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house, but he that hates gifts shall live.

⁸ Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and he who has suffered in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

¹¹ Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning that they may continue their drunkenness; that continue until night until wine inflames them! ¹² And the harp and the viol, the tambourine and flutes and wine are in their feasts; but they do not regard the work of the LORD, nor consider the work of his hands.

¹ ¶ Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim and to the open flower of the beauty of their glory which is upon the head of the fertile valley of those that are overcome with wine!

⁷ But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink; they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

¹¹ And these anxious dogs are insatiable, and even the shepherds did not know enough to understand: they all look to their own ways, each one for his gain, from his quarter. ¹² Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be as this day, or much more excellent.

¹³ For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them each one is given to greed; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one deals falsely.

¹⁰ Therefore I will give their wives unto others and their fields unto those that shall inherit them: for each one from the least even unto the greatest is given to greed; from the prophet even unto the priest every one deals falsely.

²¹ Neither shall any priest drink wine, when they enter into the inner court.

¹¹ If there is one walking in the spirit of falsehood, he shall lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.

⁵ Thus hath the LORD said concerning the prophets that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that does not give them something to eat, they even prepare war against him.

¹¹ the heads thereof judge for bribes, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet they come near unto the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us.

¹⁰ Who is there even among you that would shut the doors or tend the fire on my altar for free? I have no pleasure in you, said the LORD of the hosts, neither will the offering from your hand be agreeable unto me.

¹³ and said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

⁴⁵ Who then is the faithful and prudent slave, whom his lord has made ruler over his household to give them food in due season? ⁴⁶ Blessed is that slave whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing. ⁴⁷ Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. ⁴⁸ But and if that evil slave shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming, ⁴⁹ and shall begin to smite his fellowslaves and even to eat and drink with the drunken, ⁵⁰ the lord of that slave shall come in a day when he does not look for him and in an hour that he is not aware of ⁵¹ and shall cut him off and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward whom his lord shall make ruler over his household to give them their portion of food in due season? ⁴³ Blessed is that slave whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing. ⁴⁴ Of a truth I say unto you that he will make him ruler over all that he has. ⁴⁵ But and if that slave shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming, and shall begin to beat the menslaves and maids and to eat and drink and to be drunken, ⁴⁶ the lord of that slave will come in a day when he does not look for him and at an hour when he is not aware and will cut him off and will appoint him his portion with the unfaithful.

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with excess and drunkenness and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. ³⁵ For as a snare it shall come on all those that dwell on the face of the whole earth. ³⁶ Watch ye therefore and pray always that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass and to stand before the Son of man.

¹² But the hireling, who is not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches them and scatters the sheep. ¹³ The hireling flees because he is a hireling, and the sheep do not belong to him.

⁵ Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarius and given to the poor? ⁶ This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and had the bag and would take from what was put therein.

¹⁸ And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit. ²⁰ But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. ²¹ Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter, for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

³³ I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel.

¹⁸ For they that are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly and by smooth words and blessings deceive the hearts of the simple.

¹⁸ And be not drunk with wine, in which there is excess, but be filled with the Spirit,

⁸ ¶ Likewise the deacons must be honest, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of dishonest gain;

¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil, which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. ¹¹ But thou, O man of God, flee these things and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, charity, tolerance, meekness.

²⁴ That the slave of the Lord should not be contentious, but be meek unto everyone, apt to teach, patient, ²⁵ that with meekness they might teach those that resist, if God peradventure will grant unto them that they might repent and know the truth,

¹¹ whose mouths it is expedient to stop, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain.

³ The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of honesty;

² That they speak evil of no one, that they not be contentious, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men.

⁵ Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have; for he has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

¹ ¶ Where do the wars and disputes come from among you? From here that is to say, of your lusts which fight in your members?

³ ¶ and in covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words, upon whom the condemnation from a long time ago does not delay, and their perdition does not sleep.

¹⁴ having their eyes full of adultery, and not knowing how to cease from sin, baiting unstable souls, having their heart exercised in covetous practices; cursed sons, ¹⁵ who forsaking the right way have erred, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness,

¹¹ Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

⁹ ¶ I John, your brother and participant in the tribulation and in the kingdom and in the patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

¹¹ And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: ¹² The merchandise of gold and of silver and of precious stones and of pearls and of fine linen and of purple and of silk and of scarlet and of all thyine wood and of all manner vessels of ivory and of all manner vessels of most precious wood and of brass and of iron and of marble ¹³ and cinnamon and odours and ointments and frankincense and wine and oil and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and of sheep, and of horses, and of chariots and of bodies and souls of men.

¹⁹ For I know him, that he will command his sons and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and judgment, that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he has spoken of him.

¹⁵ ¶ And if it seems evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the river or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

² When thou shalt come unto me, I will walk in the way of perfection and understand. I will walk in the midst of my house in the perfection of my heart. ³ I will set nothing of Belial before my eyes: I hate the work of those that betray; it shall not cleave to me. ⁴ A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know a wicked person. ⁵ Whosoever secretly slanders his neighbour, I will cut off; he that has a high look and a proud heart I will not suffer. ⁶ My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; he that walks in the way of perfection, he shall serve me. ⁷ He that works deceit shall not dwell within my house; he that tells lies shall not tarry in my sight. ⁸ I will early destroy all the wicked of the land, that I may cut off all the workers of iniquity from the city of the LORD.

² a devout man and one that feared God with all his house, who gave many alms to the people and prayed to God always.

⁸ Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, exercise yourselves in these things.

¹² Let the deacons be the husbands of only one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

⁶ ¶ He who is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children who can not be accused of dissoluteness, nor insubordinate.

⁷ in all things showing thyself as an example of good works, in doctrine showing integrity, seriousness, purity,

²⁹ Why do ye trample my sacrifices and my offerings which I have commanded to be offered in my tabernacle and honor thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people? ³⁰ Therefore, the LORD God of Israel said, I had said indeed that thy house and the house of thy father should walk before me for ever, but now the LORD said, It shall never be; for those that honor me I will honor, and those that lightly esteem me shall be vile.

¹³ For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knows of (because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them).

³² Be without offense, neither to the Jews nor to the Gentiles nor to the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God;

²² And has put all things under his feet and gave him to be the head over all things to the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones},

²⁴ Therefore, as the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} is subject unto the Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

³² This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}.

¹⁵ But if I tarry long, that thou may know how it is expedient to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of the living God, the pillar and base of the truth.

¹⁴ then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery,

²⁰ that his heart be not lifted up above his brethren and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand or to the left, to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his sons, in the midst of Israel.

¹⁰ Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thy heart has lifted thee up; glory in this, but tarry at home. Why should thou meddle in evil that thou should fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

¹⁶ ¶ But when he was strengthened, his heart lifted itself up unto corruption, for he rebelled against the LORD his God, entering into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

²⁵ But Hezekiah did not render again according to the benefit done unto him, for his heart lifted itself up; therefore there was wrath against him and against Judah and Jerusalem.

¹⁸ ¶ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. ¹⁹ ¶ It is better to humble your spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud.

¹² ¶ Before being broken, the heart of man is haughty, and before coming into honour, comes being brought to humility.

²³ ¶ A man’s pride shall bring him low, but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

¹² For the day of the LORD of the hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

¹² How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, who didst claim the Gentiles as an inheritance! ¹³ Thou who said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven; upon high next to the stars of God I will exalt my throne: and I will sit upon the mount of the testimony and in the sides of the north; ¹⁴ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

¹⁸ And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

¹ ¶ And I, brothers, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.

⁶ And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes, that in us ye might not learn above that which is written, lest because of one, some of you become puffed up against others. ⁷ ¶ For who makes thee to judge? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, what dost thou glory of, as if thou hadst not received it? ⁸ Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye reign as kings without us, and I wish ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.

¹ ¶ Now as concerning things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but charity edifies.

⁷ And lest the greatness of the revelations should exalt me above measure, there is given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

⁴ he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but is driven mad concerning questions and controversy of words, of which comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

⁴ traitors, rash, puffed up, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God,

¹² For you should now be teaching others, if we look at the time, yet you need to be taught again which are the first elements of the oracles of God and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong food. ¹³ For any one that uses milk is not qualified in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.

² as newborn babes, desire the rational milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby in health;

⁵ ¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

⁴ For if God did not forgive the angels that sinned, but cast them down into the deepest abyss {Gr. Tartarus} and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

⁶ And the angels who did not keep their first estate but left their own habitation, he has reserved in eternal chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

²⁴ No, my sons, for it is no good report that I hear that ye cause the people of the LORD to transgress.

¹¹ And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but unto those that are without, all these things are done in parables,

³ therefore, brethren, seek out among you seven men of whom you bear witness, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

²² And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man and one that fears God and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for thee into his house and to hear words of thee.

¹² And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good witness of all the Jews who dwelt there,

¹² For why shall I judge those that are without? do ye not judge those that are within?

³ Giving no offense in anything, that the ministry not be blamed,

²¹ providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

⁵ ¶ Walk in wisdom towards outsiders, winning the occasion.

¹² that ye may walk honestly toward those that are without, and that ye may desire nothing from any one.

²² Separate yourselves from all appearance of evil.

¹⁴ I desire therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, govern the house, giving no occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

²⁴ Some men’s sins are manifest beforehand, before they come unto judgment, but to others they follow after. ²⁵ Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.

⁹ For those that desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.

²⁶ and that they may become converted out of the snare of the devil, in which they are captive to do his will.

⁵ to be temperate, chaste, good housekeepers, subject to their own husbands, that the word of God not be blasphemed.

⁸ sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that the adversary may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; for the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you; certainly on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. ¹⁵ So let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as desirous of the things of others. ¹⁶ But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.

¹² ¶ Everyone gives testimony of Demetrius, even the truth itself; and we also bear witness, and ye have known that our witness is true.

⁹ For there is no uprightness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

² Each one speaks vanity with his neighbour: they speak with flattering lips and with a double heart.

¹⁹ Thou didst give thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frames deceit.

² Thy tongue devises wickedness like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

³ therefore, brethren, seek out among you seven men of whom you bear witness, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. ⁴ And we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word. ⁵ And the saying pleased the whole multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch: ⁶ these they set before the apostles, and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

¹³ Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips,

³ not given to wine, not hurtful, not greedy of dishonest gain, but gentle, not contentious, not covetous;

²³ Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.

¹⁰ Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

⁵ ¶ Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart and of a good conscience and of faith unfeigned:

¹⁹ holding fast faith and a good conscience, which some, having cast away, have shipwrecked in their faith,

¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

⁹ Whosoever rebels and does not abide in the doctrine of the Christ, does not have God. He that abides in the doctrine of the Christ, the same has the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ ¶ If anyone comes unto you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house neither say unto him, Welcome:

¹ ¶ And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, that their widows were neglected in the daily ministry. ² Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them and said, It is not right that we should leave the word of God and serve tables;

⁸ who shall also confirm that ye shall remain unimpeachable unto the end, in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²² in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight

² It is expedient, therefore, that the bishop be blameless, the husband of only one wife, vigilant, temperate, of worldly affections mortified, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

⁶ not a novice, lest being puffed up, he fall into judgment of the devil.

¹³ For those that minister well purchase to themselves a good degree and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

²² Lay hands suddenly on no one, neither be partaker of the sins of others; keep thyself pure.

⁶ ¶ He who is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children who can not be accused of dissoluteness, nor insubordinate. ⁷ For the bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God; not arrogant, not quick to anger, not given to wine, not hurtful, not greedy of dishonest gain,

¹ ¶ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

⁷ They shall not take a wife that is a whore or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband; for he is holy unto his God.

¹³ And he shall take a wife in her virginity. ¹⁴ A widow or a divorced woman or profane or a harlot, these he shall not take, but he shall take a virgin of his own people to wife. ¹⁵ Neither shall he profane his seed among his people, for I AM he that sanctifies him.

³ He that does not backbite with his tongue nor do evil to his neighbour nor take up a reproach against his neighbour.

²⁰ Thou didst sit and speak against thy brother; thou didst slander thine own mother’s son.

⁵ Whosoever secretly slanders his neighbour, I will cut off; he that has a high look and a proud heart I will not suffer.

¹⁸ ¶ He that hides hatred has lying lips, and he that utters a slander, is a fool.

¹³ ¶ As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those that send him, for he refreshes the soul of his master.

⁴ Take heed each one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.

²² Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take virgins of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before.

¹ ¶ Then Jesus was led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

⁵ ¶ There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia, and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. ⁶ And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless.

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

⁶ ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For those that sleep in the night, and those that are drunken are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet, the hope of saving health.

¹² ¶ And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has enabled me, for he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry,

² And those that have faithful masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren, but rather serve them better, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. Teach and exhort this.

³ without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, without temperance, without meekness, without goodness,

⁵ But watch thou in all things, labour, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, the serpent of old, who is called Devil and the Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. ¹⁰ And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation and virtue and the kingdom of our God and the power of his Christ; for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, who accused them before our God day and night.

⁴ one that rules well his own house, having his children in subjection with all integrity; ⁵ (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God?)

²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

²¹ His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful slave; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

¹⁰ He that is faithful with little is faithful also with much, and he that is unjust with little is unjust also with much. ¹¹ If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true? ¹² And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own?

¹⁷ And he said unto him, Well done, thou good slave; because thou hast been faithful in a very little, thou shalt have authority over ten cities.

⁵ And the saying pleased the whole multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch:

⁸ ¶ And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles in the people.

¹⁵ Then all that sat in the council, looking steadfastly on him, saw his face as the face of an angel.

¹⁵ So Jacob went down into Egypt and died, he and our fathers, ¹⁶ who were carried over into Shechem and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor of Shechem. ¹⁷ ¶ But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt, ¹⁸ until another king arose, who did not know Joseph. ¹⁹ The same dealt subtly with our kindred and mistreated our fathers so that they exposed their babies to death, to the end that the generation would cease. ²⁰ In which time Moses was born and was beautiful to God and was nourished in his father’s house three months; ²¹ and when he was put in danger, Pharaoh’s daughter took him in and nourished him as her own son. ²² And Moses was taught in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was mighty in his words and deeds. ²³ And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the sons of Israel. ²⁴ And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him and smote the Egyptian, avenging the oppressed; ²⁵ for he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God was to give them saving health by his hand, but they had not understood. ²⁶ And the next day he showed himself unto them as they strove and urged them to peace, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another? ²⁷ But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? ²⁸ Wilt thou kill me as thou didst the Egyptian yesterday? ²⁹ Then Moses fled at this word and became a sojourner in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons. ³⁰ ¶ And when forty years were expired, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush. ³¹ When Moses saw it, he wondered at the vision; and as he drew near to consider it, the voice of the Lord came unto him, ³² saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled and dared not to behold. ³³ Then the Lord said to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet; for the place where thou dost stand is holy ground. ³⁴ I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt. ³⁵ This Moses, whom they had refused, saying, Who made thee a prince and a judge? the same did God send as prince and redeemer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush. ³⁶ He brought them out, showing wonders and signs in the land of Egypt and in the Red Sea and in the wilderness for forty years. ³⁷ This is that Moses, who said unto the sons of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren like unto me; him shall ye hear. ³⁸ This is he, who was in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him in the Mount Sinai and with our fathers, who received the oracles of life to give unto us; ³⁹ to whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt, ⁴⁰ saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us; for as for this Moses, who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him. ⁴¹ And then they made a calf and offered sacrifice unto the idol and rejoiced in the works of their own hands. ⁴² ¶ Then God withdrew and gave them up to worship the host of the heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness? ⁴³ On the contrary, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them; and I will carry you away beyond Babylon. ⁴⁴ Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen, ⁴⁵ which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus {Joshua in Heb.} into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers unto the days of David, ⁴⁶ who found grace before God and asked to provide a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. ⁴⁷ But Solomon built him a house. ⁴⁸ Howbeit the most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as saith the prophet, ⁴⁹ Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool; what house will ye build me? saith the Lord, or what is the place of my rest? ⁵⁰ Has not my hand made all these things? ⁵¹ ¶ Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do ye. ⁵² Who of the prophets have your fathers not persecuted? and they have slain those who announced before the coming of the Just One, of whom ye have now been the betrayers and murderers, ⁵³ who have received the law by the disposition of angels and have not kept it.

³⁵ And when he came upon the stairs, so it was that he was borne of the soldiers because of the violence of the people.

⁷ or ministry, in serving; or he that teaches, in doctrine; ⁸ he that exhorts, in exhortation; he that gives, let him do it in simplicity; he that presides, in earnest care; he that shows mercy, in cheerfulness.

¹⁵ I beseech you, brethren (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia and that they have dedicated themselves to the ministry of the saints),

¹⁴ and many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

² but having suffered before and having been shamefully treated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to announce unto you the gospel of God with much diligence.

¹ ¶ Thou, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

¹⁰ For God is not unjust to forget your work and labour of charity which ye have showed in his name, having helped the saints and helping them.

¹⁰ Let each one according to the gift that he has received, administer it unto the others, as a good steward of the diverse graces of God. ¹¹ If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God; if anyone ministers, let them do it according to the virtue which God gives, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus, the Christ, unto whom is glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

³⁴ And if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home; that ye not come together unto judgment. And I will set the rest in order when I come.

⁵ ¶ Now I will come unto you, when I have passed through Macedonia, for I must pass through Macedonia. ⁶ And it may be that I will abide and winter with you, that ye may bring me on my journey wherever I go. ⁷ For I desire not to see you now in passing, but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permits.

¹⁵ ¶ And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before that ye might have a second grace ¹⁶ and to pass by you into Macedonia and to come again out of Macedonia unto you and of you to be sent forward to Judaea. ¹⁷ When I, therefore, was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that of me there should be yes, yes, and no, no?

¹⁸ Therefore we would have come unto you, even I, Paul, once and again, but Satan hindered us.

¹³ Until I come, occupy thyself reading, exhorting, teaching.

²² In the same manner prepare me also a lodging; for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

²³ Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he comes shortly, I will see you.

¹² ¶ Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink, but I trust to come unto you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

¹⁴ For I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

²⁶ For what is all flesh that it should hear the voice of the living God that speaks out of the midst of the fire, as we heard, and live?

²³ And he gave Joshua, the son of Nun, a charge and said, Be strong and of a good courage for thou shalt bring the sons of Israel into the land which I swore unto them, and I will be with thee.

¹⁰ And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Hivite and the Perizzite and the Girgashite and the Amorite and the Jebusite.

²⁶ Then David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that overcomes this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should dishonour the armies of the living God?

³⁶ Whether it was a lion or a bear thy slave would kill it, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he has dishonoured the armies of the living God.

² I go the way of all the earth; be thou strong therefore and show thyself a man.

⁴ that the LORD may confirm the word which he spoke concerning me, saying, If thy sons take heed to their way, walking before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel.

⁴ Peradventure, the LORD thy God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria, his master, has sent to reproach the living God and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God has heard; therefore, lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left.

¹³ Then shalt thou be prospered if thou shalt keep thyself to do the statutes and rights which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel; be strong and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed.

⁹ And thou, Solomon, my son, know thou the God of thy father and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing soul, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. ¹⁰ Take heed now, for the LORD has chosen thee to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong, and do it. ¹¹ ¶ Then David gave to Solomon, his son, the pattern of the porch and of its houses and of its treasuries and of its upper chambers and of its inner parlours and of the place of the seat of reconciliation, ¹² and the pattern of all that he had received by the Spirit of the courts of the house of the LORD and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God and of the treasuries of the holy things; ¹³ also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the ministry of the house of the LORD, and for all the vessels of ministry of the house of the LORD. ¹⁴ He gave gold by weight for that of gold, for all the vessels of each manner of service; silver also for all the vessels of silver by weight, for all the vessels of each service. ¹⁵ Gold by weight for the lampstands of gold, and for their lamps of gold, by weight for every lampstand, and for its lamps; and for the lampstands of silver by weight, both for the lampstand and also for its lamps, according to the service of each lampstand. ¹⁶ And by weight he gave gold for the tables of showbread, for each table; and, likewise, silver for the tables of silver. ¹⁷ Also pure gold for the fleshhooks and the bowls and the cups, and for the golden covers he gave gold by weight for every basin; and likewise silver by weight for every basin of silver; ¹⁸ and for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot of the cherubim, that spread out their wings and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD. ¹⁹ All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern. ²⁰ And David said to Solomon, his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it; fear not, nor be dismayed, for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not leave thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work of the service of the house of the LORD. ²¹ Behold the courses of the priests and the Levites, in all the ministry of the house of God; they shall be with thee in all the work; all of them voluntarily, with wisdom in all ministry; likewise, the princes and all the people to execute all thy commands.

² My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God?

² My soul longs, and even faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh sing to the living God.

¹⁸ For, behold, I have made thee this day as a defenced city and as an iron pillar and as a wall of brass upon all the earth against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.

¹⁰ But the LORD God is the Truth, he himself is Living God and Everlasting King: at his wrath the earth trembles, and the Gentiles shall not be able to abide his indignation.

³⁶ And never again shall it come to your memory to say, The burden of the LORD; for every man’s word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of the hosts, our God.

²⁶ On my behalf a statute is put into effect, That in all the dominion of my kingdom everyone tremble at the presence of the God of Daniel for he is the living God and endures for all ages, and his kingdom is such that it shall never come apart, and his dominion shall be even unto the end:

¹⁰ With all this, the number of the sons of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

¹⁸ And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, a small rock and upon the large rock I will build my congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against her. ¹⁹ And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of the heavens, and whatever thou shalt bind on the earth shall be bound in the heavens, and whatever thou shalt loose on the earth shall be loosed in the heaven.

¹⁸ Verily I say unto you, Whatever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in the heaven; and whatever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in the heaven.

¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses, but the grace and the truth of God came through Jesus, the Christ.

⁶⁹ And we believe and know that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

⁶ Jesus said unto him, I AM the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes unto the Father, but by me.

³⁷ Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I AM king. To this end I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.

² until the day in which, having given commandments by the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen, he was received on high;

¹⁵ and saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all the things that are therein,

² Much in every way: first, certainly, that the oracles of God have been entrusted unto them.

²⁶ And it shall come to pass that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there shall they be called sons of the living God.

³ Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

⁷ in the word of truth, in the power of God through the weapons of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

¹⁶ And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them and walk in them and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

⁹ and when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship that we should go unto the Gentiles, and they unto the circumcision.

¹ ¶ O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you that ye should not trust in the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ has been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

²¹ in whom all the building fitly framed together grows unto a holy temple in the Lord, ²² in whom ye also are being built together for the habitation of God in the Spirit.

²¹ if so be that ye have heard him and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus,

⁵ for the hope which is laid up for you in the heavens, of which ye have already heard by the word of the truth of the gospel,

⁹ For they themselves tell of us what an entrance we had unto you and in what manner ye were converted to God from idols to serve the living and true God

⁵ (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God?)

¹⁰ For this we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

¹⁶ the only one who has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto, whom no man has seen nor can see, to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

²⁰ But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay, and likewise some to honour, and some to dishonour.

² who was faithful to him that appointed him over all his house, as also Moses was faithful. ³ For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who has built the house has more honour than the house. ⁴ For every house is built by someone, but he that created all things is God. ⁵ And Moses verily was faithful over all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after, ⁶ but Christ as a son over his own house, which house we are, if we hold fast the confidence and the glorious hope firmly until the end.

¹² Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unfaithfulness, to depart from the living God.

¹⁴ how much more shall the blood of the Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from the works of death to serve the living God?

²² but ye are come unto Mount Sion and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

⁵ ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, well pleasing to God by Jesus, the Christ.

² And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God: and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the land and the sea,

¹⁷ The chariots of God are two thousand, thousands of angels; the Lord is among them as in Sinai, in the sanctuary. ¹⁸ Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive; thou hast received gifts for men, yea, for the rebellious also that the LORD God might dwell among them.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Immanuel.

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government is placed upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called The Wonderful One, The Counsellor, The God, The Mighty One, The Eternal Father, The Prince of Peace.

⁵ The Lord GOD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. ⁶ I gave my back to the smiters and my cheeks to those that plucked off the hair: I did not hide my face from shame and spitting. ⁷ For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore, I was not ashamed; therefore, I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

⁵ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper and shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. ⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this shall be his name by which they shall call him, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

² But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be Lord in Israel; and his goings forth are from the beginning, from the days of the ages.

²³ Behold, a virgin shall conceive and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God With Us.

¹⁶ And Jesus, after he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water; and, behold, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon him;

¹¹ Then the devil left him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

¹¹ He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of the heavens, but to them it is not given.

² And, behold, there was a great earthquake, for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat upon it.

¹³ And he was there in the wilderness forty days and forty nights and was tempted of Satan and was with the wild beasts, and the angels ministered unto him.

⁵ And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting to the right hand side, covered in a long white garment; and they were frightened.

¹⁹ ¶ So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven and sat at the right hand of God.

¹⁰ But the angel said unto them, Fear not; for, behold, I bring you a gospel of great joy, which shall be to all the people. ¹¹ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. ¹² And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. ¹³ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ¹⁴ Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will in man.

³² a light to be revealed unto the Gentiles and the glory of thy people Israel.

⁴³ And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

⁴ And it came to pass as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments;

⁵¹ And it came to pass while he blessed them, he was parted from them and carried up into heaven.

¹ ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with the God, and the Word was God. ² The same was in the beginning with the God.

¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.

³² And John gave testimony, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. ³³ And I knew him not; but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, the same is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.

⁶² What if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

³ Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God and was going to God,

²⁶ ¶ But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me;

⁸ And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment: ⁹ of sin, because they do not believe in me;

²⁸ ¶ I came forth from the Father and am come into the world; again, I leave the world and go to the Father.

⁵ And now, O Father, clarify thou me with thine own self with that clarity which I had with thee before the world was.

¹² and saw two angels in white sitting, the one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been placed.

¹ ¶ The former treatise I have made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, ² until the day in which, having given commandments by the Holy Spirit unto the apostles whom he had chosen, he was received on high; ³ unto whom he also showed himself alive, after he had suffered, by many infallible proofs, appearing unto them for forty days and speaking to them of the kingdom of God; ⁴ and gathering them together, he commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, Which, he said, ye have heard of me. ⁵ For John truly baptized in water, but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now. ⁶ ¶ Then those that were come together asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? ⁷ And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put under his authority only. ⁸ But ye shall receive the virtue of the Holy Spirit which shall come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth. ⁹ And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. ¹⁰ And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, ¹¹ who also said, Ye men of Galilee, what do ye stand gazing at up into heaven? This same Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

¹⁹ And it was known unto all the dwellers of Jerusalem, in such a manner that the field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

³² This Jesus God has raised up, of whom we all are witnesses. ³³ Therefore being raised up by the right hand of God and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which ye now see and hear. ³⁴ For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand ³⁵ until I make thy foes thy footstool. ³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

³⁴ ¶ Then Peter opened his mouth and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons;

⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas speaking with freedom, said, It was necessary indeed that the word of God should first have been spoken to you; but seeing ye put it from you and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. ⁴⁷ For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles that thou should be for saving health unto the ends of the earth. ⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord, and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

²⁷ And when they were come and had gathered the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} together, they related what great things God had done with them and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

³ of his Son (who was born unto him of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of sanctification, by the resurrection from the dead), of Jesus, the Christ, our Lord.

³ For that which was impossible to the law, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh

⁵ whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh is the Christ, who is God over all things, blessed for all the ages. Amen.

¹² ¶ For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

¹⁸ But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their fame went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

²⁵ ¶ Now to him that is able to confirm you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was concealed from times eternal

⁷ but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God predestined before the ages unto our glory,

⁴⁷ The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord of heaven.

⁸ (for he that showed himself forth in Peter for apostleship of the circumcision, the same also showed himself forth in me toward the Gentiles);

⁴ but when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

⁹ having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he has purposed in himself,

³ how that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery (as I wrote above in a few words, ⁴ by which, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of the Christ), ⁵ which in other generations was not made known unto the sons of men as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit, ⁶ that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs and of the same body and partakers of his promise in the Christ by the gospel, ⁷ of which I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the operation of his power. ⁸ Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of the Christ ⁹ and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the ages has been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ. ¹⁰ To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} the manifold wisdom of God,

⁸ Therefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men. ⁹ (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all the heavens, that he might fulfill all things.)

¹⁹ ¶ and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth with confidence, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

⁶ who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, ⁷ but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, made in the likeness of men, ⁸ and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}.

⁶ which is come unto you, as it is in all the world, and brings forth fruit, as it does also in you, since the day ye heard it and knew the grace of God in truth,

¹⁶ for by him were all things created, that are in the heavens and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they are thrones or dominions or principalities or powers: all things were created by him and in him; ¹⁷ And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. ¹⁸ And he is the head of the body, the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence.

²³ if ye continue in the faith grounded and settled and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard and which is preached to every creature which is under heaven, of which I Paul am made a minister,

²⁷ to whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery in the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory,

² that their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in charity and in all the riches of the fulfilled understanding to know the mystery of the God and Father and of the Christ;

¹⁰ when he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all those that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

⁷ For the mystery of iniquity is already working, except that he who dominates now will dominate until he is taken out of the way.

⁹ holding the mystery of the faith together with a pure conscience.

³ who being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his substance and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

⁹ But we see this same Jesus, crowned with glory and honour, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. ¹⁰ ¶ For it was expedient that he, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, preparing to bring forth many sons in his glory, should perfect the author of their saving health through sufferings. ¹¹ For both he that sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all of one, for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, ¹² saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee. ¹³ And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God has given me.

⁷ And without any contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

¹ ¶ Now of the things which we have spoken, this is the sum: We have such a high priest who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

² with our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who having been offered joy, endured the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, despising the shame and was seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

¹² Unto whom it was revealed that not unto themselves, but unto us they did administer the things, which are now announced unto you by those that have preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven, which things the angels desire to look into.

²⁰ already ordained from before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for love of you,

¹⁸ ¶ For the Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in spirit,

²² who is at the right hand of God, having ascended into heaven, unto whom the angels and the authorities and powers are subject.

² (for the life is manifested, and we also saw it and bear witness and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father and appeared unto us);

⁵ And ye know that he appeared to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him.

⁶ ¶ This is Jesus, the Christ, who came by water and blood; not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit is he that bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth. ⁷ For there are three that bear witness in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. ⁸ And there are three that bear witness on earth, the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree in one.

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I AM the first and the last, ¹⁸ and he that lives and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen, and have the keys of Hades and of death.

⁹ After this I saw, and, behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and kindreds and peoples and tongues stood before the throne and before the Lamb clothed with long white robes and palms in their hands

⁵ and upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

⁷ ¶ And the angel said unto me, Why didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and ten horns.
