¹ ¶ Let all that are under the yoke of slavery count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine not be blasphemed. ² And those that have faithful masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren, but rather serve them better, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. Teach and exhort this. ³ If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ and to the doctrine which is according to godliness, ⁴ he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but is driven mad concerning questions and controversy of words, of which comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, ⁵ perverse disputings of men of corrupt understanding, and destitute of the truth, using piety as a source of gain: from such withdraw thyself. ⁶ ¶ But piety with contentment is great gain. ⁷ For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. ⁸ So that, sustenance and covering, let us be content with this. ⁹ For those that desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil, which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. ¹¹ But thou, O man of God, flee these things and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, charity, tolerance, meekness. ¹² Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, unto which thou art also called, having made a good profession before many witnesses. ¹³ ¶ I give thee charge in the sight of God, who gives life to all things and before Christ Jesus, who testified before Pontius Pilate a good profession; ¹⁴ that thou keep the commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁵ who in his time shall show the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; ¹⁶ the only one who has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto, whom no man has seen nor can see, to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen. ¹⁷ Charge those that are rich in this world, that they not be highminded, not placing their hope in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy; ¹⁸ but charge them to do good, that they be rich in good works, liberal to distribute, willing to communicate, ¹⁹ laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the future, that they may lay hold on eternal life. ²⁰ O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, turn away from profane voices and vain things and arguments in the vain name of science, ²¹ which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

⁷ And there was a strife between the pastors of Abram’s cattle and the pastors of Lot’s cattle; and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelt then in the land. ⁸ Then Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee and between my pastors and thine, for we are brethren.

⁹ And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and humble thyself under her hands.

² And Abraham said unto his eldest slave of his house, who ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh,

¹² And he said, O LORD, God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, to have a good encounter this day and show mercy unto my master Abraham.

²⁷ And he said, Blessed be the LORD, God of my master Abraham, who has not lifted his mercy and his truth from my master, the LORD leading me in the way to the house of my master’s brethren.

³⁵ And the LORD has blessed my master greatly, and he is become great; and he has given him flocks and herds and silver and gold and menslaves and maidslaves and camels and asses. ³⁶ And Sarah, my master’s wife, bore a son to my master when she was old, unto whom he has given all that he has. ³⁷ And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell; ³⁸ but thou shalt go unto my father’s house and to my kindred and take from there a wife for my son. ³⁹ And I said unto my master, Peradventure the woman will not follow me. ⁴⁰ And he said unto me, The LORD, before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my lineage and of my father’s house; ⁴¹ then shalt thou be free from this my oath, when thou hast come unto my lineage; and if they give her not unto thee, thou shalt be free from my oath. ⁴² And I came this day unto the fountain and said, O LORD, God of my master Abraham, if now thou dost prosper my way by which I go, ⁴³ behold, I stand by the fountain of water; let it come to pass, therefore, that the virgin who comes forth to draw water unto whom I say, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink; ⁴⁴ and if she shall say to me, Both drink thou, and I will also draw for thy camels, let the same be the woman whom the LORD has prepared for my master’s son. ⁴⁵ And before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder, and she went down unto the fountain and drew water, and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee. ⁴⁶ And she made haste and let down her pitcher from her shoulder and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also; so I drank, and she gave to drink unto the camels also. ⁴⁷ And I asked her and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bore unto him. Then I put the pendant over her nose and the bracelets upon her hands. ⁴⁸ And I bowed down my head and worshipped the LORD and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the way of the truth to take my master’s brother’s daughter unto his son. ⁴⁹ And now if ye will deal in mercy and truth with my master, tell me; and if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand or to the left. ⁵⁰ Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceeds from the LORD; we cannot speak unto thee bad or good. ⁵¹ Behold, Rebekah is before thee; take her and go and let her be thy master’s son’s wife, as the LORD has spoken. ⁵² And it came to pass that when Abraham’s slave heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth. ⁵³ And the slave brought forth vessels of silver and vessels of gold and raiment and gave them to Rebekah; he also gave precious things to her brother and to her mother. ⁵⁴ ¶ And they ate and drank, he and the men that were with him, and slept; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away unto my master. ⁵⁵ Then her brother and her mother said, Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go. ⁵⁶ And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD has prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master. ⁵⁷ Then they said, We will call the damsel and enquire at her mouth. ⁵⁸ And they called Rebekah and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go. ⁵⁹ So they sent away Rebekah, their sister, and her nurse and Abraham’s slave and his men. ⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebekah and said unto her, Thou art our sister; be thou the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let thy seed possess the gate of those who hate them. ⁶¹ And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels and followed the man; and the slave took Rebekah and went away. ⁶² ¶ And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelt in the land of the Negev. ⁶³ And Isaac had gone out to pray in the field at the evening hour; and he lifted up his eyes and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming. ⁶⁴ And Rebekah also lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel. ⁶⁵ For she had asked the slave, What man is this that walks in the field to meet us? And the slave had said, This is my master; therefore she took a veil and covered herself. ⁶⁶ Then the slave told Isaac all the things that he had done. ⁶⁷ And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent and took Rebekah as his wife; and he loved her; and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

⁴⁸ therefore, thou shalt serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against thee, in hunger and in thirst and in nakedness and in lack of all things; and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck until he has destroyed thee.

¹⁴ However, because by this deed, thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme; the son that is born unto thee shall surely die.

² And the Syrians had gone out by companies and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid, and she waited on Naaman’s wife. ³ And she said unto her mistress, If my lord would ask the prophet that is in Samaria, he would remove his leprosy.

¹³ Then his slaves came near and spoke unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, would thou not have done it? How much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash and be clean?

⁵ Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah said, Stand up and bless the LORD your God for ever and ever; and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.

⁶ I was wroth with my people; I have profaned my inheritance and given them into thine hand; thou didst show them no mercy; upon the ancient thou hast very heavily laid thy yoke.

⁵ Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD, that my people is taken away for nothing? And those among my people that take rule over them make them to howl, saith the LORD; and my name is continually blasphemed every day.

⁶ Is not rather the fast that I have chosen, to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the ties of oppression, to release into freedom those who are broken, and that ye break every yoke?

²⁰ And when they entered unto the Gentiles, where they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the LORD and are gone forth out of his land.

²³ And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the Gentiles, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the Gentiles shall know that I am the LORD, said the Lord GOD when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

⁶ ¶ The son honours his father and the slave his master; if then I am a father, where is my honour? and if I am a master, where is my fear? said the LORD of the hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, In what have we despised thy name?

⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

³⁰ For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

¹ ¶ Then he said unto the disciples, It is impossible that offenses will not come, but woe unto the one through whom they come!

⁷ And when the angel who spoke unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants and a devout soldier of those that waited on him continually;

²² And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man and one that fears God and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for thee into his house and to hear words of thee.

¹⁰ Now therefore why tempt ye God, putting a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

²⁴ For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

²¹ Art thou called being a slave? care not for it; but if thou may be made free, use it rather. ²² For he that is called in the Lord, being a slave, is the Lord’s freeman; likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s slave.

³² Be without offense, neither to the Jews nor to the Gentiles nor to the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God;

¹ ¶ Stand fast therefore in the liberty with which Christ has made us free and do not be entangled again with the yoke of slavery.

⁵ Slaves, be obedient to those that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in simplicity of your heart as unto the Christ, ⁶ not to be seen as only pleasing men, but as the slaves of the Christ, doing the will of God from within, ⁷ with good will doing service as to the Lord and not to men, ⁸ knowing that whatever good thing anyone does, the same shall they receive of the Lord, whether they are slaves or free.

²² Slaves, in all things hearken unto your masters according to the flesh, not serving to be seen as those who only please men, but in simplicity of heart, fearing God; ²³ And whatever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men, ²⁴ knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance, for ye serve the Lord Christ. ²⁵ But he that does wrong shall receive the wrong which he has done, now that there is no respect of persons.

¹⁴ I desire therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, govern the house, giving no occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

⁵ to be temperate, chaste, good housekeepers, subject to their own husbands, that the word of God not be blasphemed.

⁸ sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that the adversary may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. ⁹ Exhort slaves to be subject to their own masters and to please them well in all things; not contradicting; ¹⁰ not defrauding, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

¹² and have your honest conversation among the Gentiles, so that, in that which they murmur about you as of evildoers, having witnessed your good works, they may glorify God in the day of visitation.

¹⁷ Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. ¹⁸ Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and humane, but also to the unjust. ¹⁹ For this is due to grace, if a man for conscience toward God endures grief, suffering wrongfully. ²⁰ For what glory is it if, when ye are buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is due to grace from God.

¹⁶ ¶ having a good conscience, so in that which they murmur against you as of evildoers, those that blaspheme your good conversation in the Christ may be confused.

⁴ ¶ And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived; and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. ⁵ Then Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee; I have given my maid into thy bosom, and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes; the LORD judge between me and thee.

³ and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron and said unto them, We have had enough of you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them; why then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

²⁸ ¶ And it shall come to pass after this that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

²⁴ No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and riches.

⁸ But, as for you, desire not to be called Rabbi, for one is your Master, the Christ; and you are all brothers.

⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers, ye have done it unto me.

²⁹ ¶ For unto those whom he knew beforehand, he also marked out beforehand the way that they might be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

¹⁷ And if some of the branches were broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them and hath been made participant of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree,

²⁶ For ye are all sons of God by faith in Christ Jesus. ²⁷ For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. ²⁸ Here there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ And if ye are Christ’s, then ye are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything nor uncircumcision, but faith which works by charity.

¹ ¶ Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints who are at Ephesus and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:

¹⁵ ¶ Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and charity unto all the saints,

⁶ that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs and of the same body and partakers of his promise in the Christ by the gospel,

² to the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

⁴ since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the charity which ye have toward all the saints,

¹¹ where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian nor Scythian, slave nor free: but Christ is all and in all. ¹² ¶ Clothed, therefore, (as the elect of God, holy and beloved) with bowels of mercies, with kindness, with humility, with meekness, with tolerance,

¹ ¶ Masters, do that which is just and right with your slaves, knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

³ We must thank God always for you, brethren, as is due because your faith grows exceedingly, and the charity of each and every one of you toward each other abounds,

¹¹ Command and teach this.

¹ ¶ Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father, and the younger men as brethren,

¹ ¶ But speak thou the things which are expedient unto sound doctrine,

¹⁵ ¶ These things speak and exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise thee.

⁸ The Word is faithful, and I desire that thou affirm this constantly, that those who have believed God might be careful to conduct themselves in good works. This is good and profitable unto men.

⁵ hearing of thy charity and faith, which thou hast in the Lord Jesus and toward all saints; ⁶ that the communication of thy faith may become effectual for the knowledge of all the good that is in you by Christ Jesus. ⁷ For we have great joy and consolation in thy charity because the bowels of the saints have been refreshed by thee, brother.

¹⁰ I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds, ¹¹ who in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now is profitable to thee and to me, ¹² whom I send again unto thee; therefore, receive him, as you would receive me. ¹³ I desired to retain him with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel, ¹⁴ but I did not want to do anything without thy counsel, that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly. ¹⁵ Perhaps for this, he departed from you for a season, that thou should have him again forever, ¹⁶ not now as a slave, but above a slave, a brother beloved, especially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord.

¹ ¶ Therefore, brethren, saints, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus,

¹⁴ For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end;

¹ ¶ The elders who are among you I exhort (I am also an elder with them and a witness of the afflictions of the Christ, and also a participant of the glory that shall be revealed).

¹⁰ ¶ and chiefly those that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise dominion; presumptuous, arrogant, they are not afraid to speak evil of the higher powers;

⁸ ¶ In the same manner these deceived dreamers, defile their flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of higher powers.

⁴ ¶ The wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

²¹ They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then said he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s and unto God the things that are God’s.

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, behold, I am with you always even unto the end of the age. Amen.

¹⁷ ¶ And I beseech you, brethren, mark those who cause dissensions and offences outside of the doctrine which ye have learned, and avoid them.

⁶ ¶ I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel, ⁷ for there is not another; but there are some that trouble you and would pervert the gospel of the Christ.

¹ ¶ It is in order then, brethren, that we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that in the manner ye were taught of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would continue to grow. ² For ye already know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

⁸ He therefore that despises us, does not despise man, but God, who has also given unto us his Holy Spirit.

³ Even as I besought thee to remain at Ephesus when I went into Macedonia, that thou might charge some that they not teach diverse doctrine,

⁶ from which some, having swerved, have turned aside unto vanity of words,

¹⁰ for fornicators, for homosexuals, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine,

⁷ But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. ⁸ For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

¹³ Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and charity which is in Christ Jesus.

³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, they shall heap up unto themselves teachers who shall speak to them according to their own lusts,

¹ ¶ Paul, slave of God, and apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness;

⁹ holding fast the doctrine according to the faithful word, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

¹ ¶ But speak thou the things which are expedient unto sound doctrine, ² that the aged men be temperate, venerable, prudent, sound in faith, in charity, in tolerance.

¹¹ ¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world; ¹³ waiting for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, ¹⁴ who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a people of his own, zealous of good works.

³ as all things that pertain to life and to godliness are given us of his divine power, through the knowledge of him that has called us by his glory and virtue, ⁴ whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises, that by these ye might be made participants of the divine nature, having fled the corruption that is in the world through lust. ⁵ ¶ Ye also, giving all diligence to the same, show forth virtue in your faith; and in virtue, knowledge; ⁶ and in knowledge, temperance; and in temperance, patience; and in patience, fear of God; ⁷ and in fear of God, brotherly love; and in brotherly love, charity.

⁷ ¶ There are those that make themselves rich, yet have nothing: there are those that make themselves poor, yet have great riches.

¹⁴ ¶ Whosoever boasts in a gift of falsehood is like clouds and wind without rain.

¹² ¶ Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

⁴ Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day to make your voice to be heard on high.

⁹ But there was a certain man called Simon, who before this in the same city used magic arts and amazed the people of Samaria, giving out that he himself was some great one,

²¹ Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter, for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. ²² Repent therefore of this thy wickedness and pray God, if perhaps this thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. ²³ For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness and in the prison of iniquity.

² When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas and certain other of them should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

¹⁵ but if it is a question of words and names and of your law, look ye to it, for I will be no judge of such matters.

⁸ but unto those that are contentious and do not obey the truth, but are persuaded by unrighteousness, indignation and wrath.

¹⁶ Be unanimous among yourselves, not high minded, but accommodating the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

¹ ¶ Bear with the one who is sick in the faith, but not unto doubtful discernment.

³ For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying and strife and divisions, are ye not carnal and walk as men?

¹⁸ ¶ Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you seems to be wise in this age, let them become a fool that they may be wise.

¹ ¶ Now as concerning things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but charity edifies. ² And if anyone thinks that they know anything, they know nothing yet as they ought to know.

¹⁶ With all this, if anyone seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God.

¹⁸ For first of all, when ye come together in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, I hear that there are divisions among you; and I partly believe it.

²⁰ For ye suffer it if anyone brings you into bondage, if anyone devours you, if anyone takes of you, if anyone exalts himself, if anyone smites you on the face.

¹⁵ But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye are not consumed one of another.

²⁰ idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; which I denounce, as I have also told you in time past that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

²⁶ Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

³ For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

¹⁵ Some indeed preach the Christ even out of envy and strife, but others also out of good will.

³ Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in humility let each esteem others better than themselves,

¹⁴ ¶ Do all things without murmurings and doubts,

¹⁸ Let no one govern you according to their own will under pretext of humility and religion of angels, intruding into those things which they have not seen, vainly puffed up by their fleshly mind,

⁴ opposing and exalting himself against all that is called God, or divinity, so that he as God sits in the temple of God, making himself appear to be God.

⁴ nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which generate questions other than that the edification of God is by faith.

⁷ desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor from where they affirm.

⁶ not a novice, lest being puffed up, he fall into judgment of the devil.

¹⁴ ¶ Counsel these things, charging them before the Lord. Strive not in words that profit nothing, but rather subvert the hearers.

²³ But foolish and unwise questions refuse, knowing that they do beget contentions.

⁴ traitors, rash, puffed up, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God,

⁹ ¶ But avoid foolish questions and genealogies and contentions and debates concerning the law, for they are unprofitable and vain.

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

¹⁴ ¶ My brethren, What shall it profit though someone says that they have faith and do not have works? Shall this type of faith be able to save them? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says unto them, Depart in peace; be ye warmed and filled; but ye do not give them those things which are needful for the body; what shall it profit them? ¹⁷ Even so faith, if it does not have works, is dead in and of itself. ¹⁸ But someone may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works; show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.

¹ ¶ Where do the wars and disputes come from among you? From here that is to say, of your lusts which fight in your members? ² Ye covet and have not; ye murder, and have envy and cannot obtain; ye fight and war and have not that which ye desire because ye ask not.

⁵ Do ye think that the scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy? ⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

¹ ¶ Having therefore left all malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envies and all murmurings, ² as newborn babes, desire the rational milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby in health;

¹² But these, speaking evil of the things that they do not understand (as natural animals without reason, who are made to be taken and destroyed), shall utterly perish in their own corruption,

¹⁸ For speaking arrogant words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from those who converse in error,

¹⁰ But these speak evil of those things which they do not know; but what they know by nature as animals without reason, in those things they corrupt themselves.

¹⁶ These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own desires; and their mouth speaks arrogant things, admiring persons to take advantage.

¹⁷ Because thou sayest, I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing and knowest not that thou art wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,

²⁰ ¶ But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master has spared Naaman, this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him and take something from him. ²¹ So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him and said, Is there no peace? ²² And he said, Peace. My master has sent me, saying, Behold, even now two young men of the sons of the prophets came to me from Mount Ephraim; give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver and two changes of garments. ²³ And Naaman said, If you wish take two talents. And he urged him and bound two talents of silver in two bags with two changes of garments and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bore them before him. ²⁴ And when he came to a secret place, he took them from their hand and bestowed them in the house; and he let the men go, and they departed. ²⁵ But when he went in and stood before his master, Elisha said unto him, From where comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went nowhere. ²⁶ Then he said unto him, Did not my heart go with thee when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money and to receive garments and oliveyards and vineyards and sheep and oxen and menslaves and maidslaves? ²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

¹¹ And these anxious dogs are insatiable, and even the shepherds did not know enough to understand: they all look to their own ways, each one for his gain, from his quarter.

¹³ For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them each one is given to greed; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one deals falsely.

¹⁰ Therefore I will give their wives unto others and their fields unto those that shall inherit them: for each one from the least even unto the greatest is given to greed; from the prophet even unto the priest every one deals falsely.

³¹ And they shall come unto thee as the people come, and they shall be before thee, my people, and they shall hear thy words, but they shall not do them; for with their mouth they flatter, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

¹⁷ Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit, but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit. ¹⁸ A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. ¹⁹ Every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire. ²⁰ So that by their fruits ye shall know them.

³³ Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree corrupt and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by its fruit.

¹³ and said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

¹³ ¶ But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of the heavens in front of men, for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye those that are entering to go in.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness more than the light because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. ²¹ But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

¹⁸ And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit. ²⁰ But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

²⁴ For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith who made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen, ²⁵ whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation and said, Sirs, ye know that by this gain we have our wealth. ²⁶ Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods which are made with hands ²⁷ so that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought, but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship. ²⁸ And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

¹⁷ ¶ And I beseech you, brethren, mark those who cause dissensions and offences outside of the doctrine which ye have learned, and avoid them. ¹⁸ For they that are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly and by smooth words and blessings deceive the hearts of the simple.

¹⁷ ¶ This I say, therefore, and require in the Lord that from now on ye not walk as the other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their own senses, ¹⁸ having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them because of the blindness of their heart, ¹⁹ who, after losing all sense of feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness.

⁸ And then shall that Wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of his mouth and remove with the clarity of his coming: ⁹ that wicked one, who shall come by the working of Satan with great power and signs and lying miracles, ¹⁰ and with all deception of iniquity working in those that perish because they did not receive the charity of the truth, to be saved. ¹¹ Therefore, for this cause, God shall send the operation of error in them, that they should believe the lie;

⁶ ¶ Now we charge you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walks out of order, and not after the doctrine which ye received of us.

³ not given to wine, not hurtful, not greedy of dishonest gain, but gentle, not contentious, not covetous;

⁸ ¶ Likewise the deacons must be honest, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of dishonest gain;

⁶ ¶ But piety with contentment is great gain.

⁵ having the appearance of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

⁸ And in the manner that Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth, men of corrupt understanding, reprobate concerning the faith.

¹¹ whose mouths it is expedient to stop, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain.

¹⁵ For unto the pure all things are pure, but unto those that are defiled and unfaithful, nothing is pure, but even their soul and conscience is defiled. ¹⁶ They profess that they know God, but in works they deny him, being abominable and rebellious and reprobate unto every good work.

¹² Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unfaithfulness, to depart from the living God. ¹³ But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

³ ¶ and in covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words, upon whom the condemnation from a long time ago does not delay, and their perdition does not sleep.

¹⁵ who forsaking the right way have erred, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness,

⁸ Look to yourselves, that we not lose those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a fulfilled reward. ⁹ Whosoever rebels and does not abide in the doctrine of the Christ, does not have God. He that abides in the doctrine of the Christ, the same has the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ ¶ If anyone comes unto you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house neither say unto him, Welcome: ¹¹ Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

³ For all the Gentiles have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the power of her delicacies.

¹³ and cinnamon and odours and ointments and frankincense and wine and oil and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and of sheep, and of horses, and of chariots and of bodies and souls of men.

²¹ And Moses was content to dwell with the man; and he gave Moses Zipporah, his daughter.

¹⁶ Tet A little that a righteous man has is better than the many riches of the sinners.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield unto us; the LORD will give grace and glory; he will not withhold good from those that walk uprightly.

¹³ ¶ Blessed is the man that has found wisdom and who brings to light intelligence, ¹⁴ for the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver and the fruits thereof more than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than precious stones, and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand and in her left hand riches and honour. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those that lay hold upon her, and blessed is every one that retains her.

¹⁸ Riches and honour are with me, yea, durable riches and righteousness. ¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yea, than precious stones, and my revenue than choice silver. ²⁰ I shall lead in the way of righteousness in the midst of the paths of judgment, ²¹ that I may cause my friends to inherit existence and I will fill their treasures.

¹⁶ ¶ Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

⁸ ¶ Better is a little with righteousness than a great number of fruits with injustice.

³² For the Gentiles seek after all these things.) For your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things. ³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

¹⁴ And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Oppress no one, neither accuse anyone falsely; and be content with your wages.

³¹ But rather seek ye the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you. ³² Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

³ And not only this, but we even glory in the tribulations, knowing that the tribulation works patience; ⁴ and patience, experience; and experience, hope; ⁵ and the hope shall not be ashamed, because the love of God is poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given unto us.

²⁸ And we now know that unto those who love God, all things help them unto good, to those who according to the purpose are called to be saints.

¹⁷ For our tribulation, which is momentary and light, prepares an exceeding and eternal weight of glory unto us;

²¹ ¶ For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.

¹¹ Not that I speak in respect of want, for I have learned, in whatever state I am, to be content. ¹² I know both how to be humbled, and I know how to have an abundance; in everything and by all things I am instructed, both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. ¹³ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

⁸ For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

⁸ So that, sustenance and covering, let us be content with this.

⁵ Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have; for he has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

²¹ and said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

¹⁷ for in his death he shall carry nothing away; nor shall his glory descend after him.

²⁴ For riches are not for ever, and does the crown endure to every generation?

¹⁵ As he came forth of his mother’s womb, naked shall he return to go as he came and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand. ¹⁶ And this also is a sore evil; that in all points as he came, so shall he go; and what profit has he that has laboured for the wind?

²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast stored up? ²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself and is not rich in God.

²² And it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom; the rich man also died and was buried; ²³ and in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom.

²⁰ And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me bread to eat and clothing to put on

¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has fed me all my life long unto this day,

⁷ For the LORD thy God has blessed thee in all the works of thy hand; he knows thy walking through this great wilderness; these forty years the LORD thy God has been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

³ And he afflicted thee and caused thee to hunger and sustained thee with manna, food of which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know, that he might make thee know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD shall man live. ⁴ Thy raiment never waxed old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.

²³ ¶ Be thou diligent to know the countenance of thy sheep, and put thy heart into thy herds. ²⁴ For riches are not for ever, and does the crown endure to every generation? ²⁵ The tender grass shows itself, and the hay appears, and the herbs of the mountains are reaped. ²⁶ The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are for the price of the field. ²⁷ And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance of thy maidens.

⁸ Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread of my judgment: ⁹ Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and blaspheme the name of my God.

²⁴ There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. I also have seen that this is from the hand of God. ²⁵ For who can eat, or who can care for himself better than I? ²⁶ For God gives to the man that is good in his sight wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to the one that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

¹² I have learned that there is nothing better for them, but to rejoice and to do good in his life. ¹³ And also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labour; it is the gift of God.

¹¹ Give us this day our daily bread.

²⁵ ¶ Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment? ²⁶ Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are ye not much better than they? ²⁷ Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? ²⁸ And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin; ²⁹ and yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ³⁰ Therefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? ³¹ Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, With what shall we be clothed?

⁵ Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have; for he has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. ⁶ So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

¹⁰ ¶ And Lot lifted up his eyes and beheld all the plain of the Jordan that it was well watered everywhere, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as a garden of the LORD like the land of Egypt as thou comest unto Zoar. ¹¹ Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed east; and they separated themselves the one from the other. ¹² Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tents toward Sodom. ¹³ But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

¹⁷ for I will without a doubt honour thee greatly, and I will do whatever thou sayest unto me; come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people. ¹⁸ And Balaam answered and said unto the slaves of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do anything small or great. ¹⁹ Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night that I may know what the LORD will say unto me again.

⁸ And they also slew the kings of Midian among the rest of those that were slain: namely, Evi and Rekem and Zur and Hur and Reba, five kings of Midian; they also slew Balaam, the son of Beor, with the sword.

²⁵ The graven images of their gods ye shall burn in the fire; thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them nor take it unto thee lest thou be snared therein; for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.

¹¹ Israel has sinned and has even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them; for they have even taken of the anathema and have also stolen and lied also, and they have even put it in their own vessels.

²⁴ Then Joshua and all Israel with him took Achan, the son of Zerah, and the silver and the garment and the wedge of gold and his sons and his daughters and his oxen and his asses and his sheep and his tent and all that he had, and they brought them unto the valley of Achor. ²⁵ And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? The LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones and burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones. ²⁶ And they raised over them a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.

⁶ Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, with winds of whirlwinds: this shall be the portion of their cup.

¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. ¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own souls. ¹⁹ So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain which takes away the life of those who possess it.

²⁷ ¶ He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house, but he that hates gifts shall live.

²¹ ¶ An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning, but the end thereof shall not be blessed.

⁶ ¶ The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of those that seek death.

¹⁶ ¶ He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches and who gives to the rich shall surely come to want.

⁴ ¶ Do not labour to be rich; cease from thine own wisdom.

²⁰ ¶ The man of truth shall abound with blessings, but he that makes haste to be rich shall not be absolved. ²¹ ¶ To have respect of persons in judgment is not good; even for a piece of bread, man will transgress. ²² ¶ He that hastens to be rich has an evil eye and does not consider that poverty shall come upon him.

⁸ ¶ Woe unto those that join house to house, that lay field to field, until they have done away with the borders! Will ye dwell alone in the midst of the earth?

⁷ ¶ He is a merchant who has the balances of deceit in his hand; he loves to oppress. ⁸ And Ephraim said, Surely I have become rich, I have found riches for myself; no one shall find iniquity in me, nor sin in all my labours.

⁴ ¶ Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, and cut off the poor of the land, ⁵ saying, When the month is over, we will sell the wheat; and after the sabbath day we will open the storehouse of bread, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit; ⁶ that we may buy the poor for money and the needy for a pair of shoes and sell the refuse of the wheat.

⁵ whose buyers slayed them and held themselves not guilty; and he that sold them said, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and not even their own shepherds had compassion on them.

²² And he that was planted among the thorns is he that hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

²² But when the young man heard that word, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

¹⁵ and said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

³ Then Judas, who had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the princes of the priests and the elders, ⁴ saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? Thou shalt see to it. ⁵ And casting down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed and went and hanged himself.

¹⁹ and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

³⁵ For as a snare it shall come on all those that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

⁴ Retaining it, was it not thy own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thy heart? Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. ⁵ Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and gave up the spirit; and great fear came on all those that heard these things.

²⁰ But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

²² that ye put off everything concerning the old way of life, that is, the old man who corrupts himself according to deceitful desires,

⁹ knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly sinners, for the evil and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

⁷ Moreover he must have a good report of those who are outside lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

²⁶ and that they may become converted out of the snare of the devil, in which they are captive to do his will.

¹ ¶ Come now, Oh ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are rotten, and your garments are motheaten. ³ Your gold and silver is corrupted with rust; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you and shall completely eat your flesh, as fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts.

¹⁵ who forsaking the right way have erred, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness, ¹⁶ and was rebuked for his iniquity; a dumb animal accustomed to a yoke (upon which he was seated), speaking with man’s voice, hindered the madness of the prophet.

¹⁵ Love not the world neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passes away and the lust thereof, but he that does the will of God abides for ever.

¹⁴ And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.

²⁶ And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country to give the younger before the firstborn.

³¹ ¶ And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb; but Rachel was barren. ³² And Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said, Surely the LORD has looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me. ³³ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son; and said, Because the LORD has heard that I was hated, he has therefore given me this son also; and she called his name Simeon. ³⁴ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me because I have born him three sons; therefore his name was called Levi. ³⁵ And she conceived again and gave birth a son; and she said, Now I will praise the LORD; therefore she called his name Judah and stopped bearing children.

²³ Shall not their livestock and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? Only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us. ²⁴ And unto Hamor and unto Shechem, his son, hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.

¹⁶ And he turned unto her by the way and said, Come now, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee (for he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law). And she said, What wilt thou give me that thou may come in unto me?

⁷ Keep thee far from a false matter; and slay thou not the innocent and righteous; for I will not justify the wicked. ⁸ And thou shalt take no bribe; for the bribe blinds the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

¹⁹ Thou shalt not twist that which is right; thou shalt not respect persons neither take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

⁴ because they did not meet you with bread and with water in the way when ye came forth out of Egypt and because they hired against thee Balaam, the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse thee. ⁵ Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam, but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee because the LORD thy God loved thee.

¹⁸ Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, {a male cult prostitute} into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow; for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

¹⁰ Then Micah said unto him, Dwell with me and be a father and a priest unto me, and I will give thee ten shekels of silver by the year and the ordinary apparel and thy food. So the Levite went in. ¹¹ And the Levite was content to dwell with the man, and the young man was unto him as one of his sons.

¹⁹ And they said unto him, Silence, lay thy hand upon thy mouth and go with us to be our father and priest; is it better for thee to be a priest unto the house of one man or that thou be a priest unto a tribe and a family of Israel? ²⁰ And the priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod and the teraphim and the graven image and went in the midst of the people.

²⁹ And they called the name of the city Dan after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel; however, the name of the city was Laish at the first. ³⁰ And the sons of Dan set up the graven image; and Jonathan, the son of Gershon, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land. ³¹ And they set up Micah’s graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

¹⁰ when one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him and slew him in Ziklag as a reward for his tidings. ¹¹ How much more unto wicked men who have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? Shall I not, therefore, now require his blood of your hand and remove you from the earth?

²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

¹⁰ There are many sorrows for the wicked; but he that waits in the LORD, mercy shall compass him round about.

¹⁹ So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain which takes away the life of those who possess it.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own counsel.

²³ Thy princes are rebellious and companions of thieves; every one loves bribes and follows after rewards; they do not hear the fatherless in judgment, neither does the cause of the widow come unto them.

²⁷ As a cage full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit; thus they became great and rich. ²⁸ They are become fat; they shine; yea, they overpass in deeds of wickedness; they did not judge the cause, the cause of the fatherless; with all this they made themselves prosperous; and they did not judge the cause of the poor.

¹⁹ And will ye profane me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, slaying the souls that should not die and giving life to the souls that should not live, by your lying to my people that listen to the lie?

³³ They give gifts to all whores, but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers and givest them offerings that they may come unto thee on every side for thy whoredom.

¹² In thee they have taken bribes to shed blood; thou hast taken usury and increase, and thou hast greedily gained of thy neighbours by extortion and hast forgotten me, said the Lord GOD.

¹¹ the heads thereof judge for bribes, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet they come near unto the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us.

³ To complete the evil with their hands, the prince demands, and the judge judges for a reward; and the great man speaks the desires of his heart: and they confirm it. ⁴ The best of them is as a brier; the most upright as a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen, thy visitation, comes; now shall be their confusion.

¹⁰ Who is there even among you that would shut the doors or tend the fire on my altar for free? I have no pleasure in you, said the LORD of the hosts, neither will the offering from your hand be agreeable unto me.

¹⁶ Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit by the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who was guide to those that took Jesus. ¹⁷ For he was numbered with us, and had obtained a lot or inheritance of this ministry. ¹⁸ He, therefore, purchased a field with the reward of his iniquity; and hanging himself, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. ¹⁹ And it was known unto all the dwellers of Jerusalem, in such a manner that the field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

⁹ For those that desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.

²¹ which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

¹⁰ for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

¹⁹ Brethren, if any of you have erred from the truth, and someone should convert him;

⁷ ¶ and delivered just Lot, who was persecuted by those abominable people because of their nefarious conversation; ⁸ (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, afflicted his righteous soul from day to day with the deeds of those unjust people);

¹⁴ But I have a few things against thee because thou hast there those that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols and to commit fornication. ¹⁵ So hast thou also those that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which I hate.

²⁰ Thou shalt follow justice and righteousness, that thou may live and inherit the land which the LORD thy God gives thee.

¹ ¶ And this is the blessing, with which Moses the man of God blessed the sons of Israel before his death.

²⁷ ¶ And a man of God came unto Eli and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I not plainly appear unto the house of thy father when they were in Egypt in the house of Pharaoh?

⁶ And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man; all that he says surely comes to pass; now let us go there; peradventure he can show us our way that we should go.

¹ ¶ And, behold, a man of God came out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Bethel; and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.

²⁶ And when the prophet that had brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, It is the man of God, who rebelled against the word of the LORD; therefore, the LORD has delivered him unto the lion, who has torn him and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke unto him.

¹⁸ And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? Art thou come unto me to call my iniquity to remembrance and to cause my son to die?

²⁴ Then the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God and that the word of the LORD is true in thy mouth.

²⁸ Then the man of God came and spoke unto the king of Israel and said, Thus hath the LORD said, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the mountains, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore, I will deliver all this great multitude into thy hand that ye may know that I am the LORD.

⁹ ¶ Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him, and, behold, he sat on the top of a mountain. And he spoke unto him, Man of God, the king has commanded thee to come down.

¹³ And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up and came and fell on his knees before Elijah and besought him and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life and the life of these fifty thy slaves, be precious in thy sight.

²⁰ ¶ But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master has spared Naaman, this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him and take something from him.

¹⁷ Then he said, What title is this that I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulchre of the man of God, who came from Judah and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of Bethel.

¹⁴ And the sons of Moses, the man of God, were counted in the tribe of Levi.

¹⁴ And he appointed, according to the order of David his father, the courses of the priests to their service and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, each thing in its day; the porters also by their courses at each gate, for so had David, the man of God, commanded.

²⁴ The heads of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, Jeshua, the son of Kadmiel, and their brethren before them, to praise and to give thanks, according to the statute of David, the man of God, keeping each one their ward.

³⁶ and his brethren, Shemaiah, Azarael, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethaneel, Judah, and Hanani, with the musical instruments of David, the man of God, and Ezra, the scribe, before them.

¹⁴ Nun Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

²⁰ rendering evil for good they are against me because I follow that which is good.

¹ ¶ Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the LORD; look unto the rock from which ye are hewn and to the hole of the pit from which ye are dug.

⁴ and I brought them into the house of the LORD, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the vessels:

¹⁹ Let us, therefore, follow after the things which make for peace and the edification of each one to the others.

¹⁸ Flee fornication. Any other sin that a man does is outside the body, but he that commits fornication sins against his own body.

¹⁴ Therefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

¹ ¶ Follow after charity and earnestly pursue spiritual gifts, but above all, that ye may prophesy.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is this: Charity, joy, peace, tolerance, gentleness, goodness, faith, ²³ meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

⁸ Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, exercise yourselves in these things. ⁹ Those things, which ye have both learned and received and heard and seen in me, do, and the God of peace shall be with you.

¹² Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the faithful in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

¹⁰ having a good testimony of good works, if she has brought up well her children, if she has exercised hospitality, if she has washed the feet of the saints, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.

²⁰ O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, turn away from profane voices and vain things and arguments in the vain name of science,

²² ¶ Flee also youthful lusts, but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with those that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

¹⁷ that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

¹¹ ¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world;

¹⁴ Follow peace with everyone and holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord:

¹¹ let him separate himself from evil and do good; let him seek peace and follow it.

³ And thou shalt go unto the priest that shall be in those days and say unto him, I declare today unto the LORD thy God that I have entered into the land which the LORD swore unto our fathers to give us.

¹⁷ Thou hast lifted up the LORD today to be thy God and to walk in his ways and to keep his statutes and his commandments and his rights and to hearken unto his voice. ¹⁸ And the LORD has lifted thee up this day to be his unique people, as he has promised thee, and that thou should keep all his commandments, ¹⁹ and to make thee high above all the Gentiles which he has made, in praise, and in fame, and in glory; and that thou may be a holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he has spoken.

⁸ My soul has followed hard after thee; thy right hand has upheld me.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those that lay hold upon her, and blessed is every one that retains her.

⁴ It was but a little that I passed from them that I found him whom my soul loves: I held him and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house and into the chamber of her that brought me into the light.

⁵ One shall say, I am the LORD’s; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD and surname himself by the name of Israel.

⁵ ¶ And they shall be as mighty men, who tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle; and they shall fight because the LORD shall be with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.

⁸ Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God; ⁹ but he that denies me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

²⁸ And we now know that unto those who love God, all things help them unto good, to those who according to the purpose are called to be saints. ²⁹ ¶ For unto those whom he knew beforehand, he also marked out beforehand the way that they might be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. ³⁰ And unto those whom he did mark out beforehand the way, to these he also called; and to whom he called, these he also justified; and to whom he justified, these he also glorified.

²³ and making known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he has prepared unto glory? ²⁴ Even us, whom he has called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles!

⁹ that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God has raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. ¹⁰ For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto saving health.

²⁵ And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown, but we, an incorruptible one. ²⁶ I therefore so run, not as unto an uncertain thing; so I fight, not as one that beats the air;

⁷ in the word of truth, in the power of God through the weapons of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

¹³ that by the experience of this ministration, they glorify God for the obedience of your consent unto the gospel of the Christ and in your liberal distribution unto them and unto everyone,

³ For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh ⁴ (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God for the destruction of strong holds), ⁵ casting down reasonings and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and leading captive every thought into the obedience of the Christ

¹⁰ ¶ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. ¹¹ Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand firm against the wiles of the devil. ¹² For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the lords of this age, rulers of this darkness, against spiritual wickedness in the heavens. ¹³ Therefore, take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day and stand fast, all the work having been finished. ¹⁴ Stand firm, therefore, having your loins girt about with truth and having on the breastplate, {the coat of mail and coat of arms} of righteousness, ¹⁵ and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, ¹⁶ above all, taking the shield of faith, with which ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. ¹⁷ And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; ¹⁸ praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching in this with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints

¹² Not as though I had already attained it, either were already perfect, but I follow after, if I may lay hold of that for which I have also been laid hold of by the Christ, Jesus. ¹³ Brethren, I do not reckon to have laid hold of it yet, but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and extending myself unto those things which are ahead, ¹⁴ I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, into which likewise ye are called into one body, and be ye thankful.

¹² that ye would walk worthy of God, who has called you unto his kingdom and glory.

⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet, the hope of saving health. ⁹ For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain saving health by our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹⁴ unto which he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ ¶ This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, so that according to past prophecies regarding thee, that thou by them might war a good warfare;

¹³ ¶ I give thee charge in the sight of God, who gives life to all things and before Christ Jesus, who testified before Pontius Pilate a good profession;

¹⁹ laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the future, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

⁹ who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the times of the ages,

⁷ I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith;

¹⁸ that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us,

²³ Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with whom, if he comes shortly, I will see you.

⁹ not rendering evil for evil or curse for curse, but to the contrary, blessing, knowing that ye are called, that ye should possess a blessing by inheritance.

¹⁰ ¶ But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Jesus, the Christ, after ye have suffered a little while, he himself perfects, confirms, strengthens, and establishes you.

²⁵ And this is the promise that he has promised us, even eternal life.

³ Remember, therefore, of that which thou hast received and heard and hold to it and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come to thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

³⁹ ¶ See now that I, I am he, and there are no gods with me; I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal; and there is not one that can deliver out of my hand.

⁶ The LORD kills, and he gives life; he brings down to Sheol and raises up.

¹¹ ¶ And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

²¹ For as the Father raises up the dead and gives them life; even so the Son gives life unto whom he will.

²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, so has he given to the Son to have life in himself

⁶ Jesus said unto him, I AM the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes unto the Father, but by me.

²⁵ ¶ I have spoken these things unto you, being yet present with you. ²⁶ But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all the things that I have said unto you.

³⁶ Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews; now, therefore, my kingdom is not from here. ³⁷ Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I AM king. To this end I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.

¹¹ Jesus answered, Thou could have no power at all against me, unless it were given thee from above; therefore he that delivered me unto thee has the greater sin.

²⁵ neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he gives to all life and breath and all things

⁵ For there is only one God and likewise only one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

²¹ I charge thee before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

¹² Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, unto which thou art also called, having made a good profession before many witnesses.

⁵ and from Jesus, the Christ, who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins with his own blood

¹⁴ ¶ And unto the angel of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of the Laodiceans write; Behold, he who saith, Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God:

⁶ And he said unto me, It is done. I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is thirsty of the fountain of the water of life freely.

¹ ¶ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

⁹ And thou, Solomon, my son, know thou the God of thy father and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing soul, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. ¹⁰ Take heed now, for the LORD has chosen thee to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong, and do it.

²⁰ And David said to Solomon, his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it; fear not, nor be dismayed, for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not leave thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work of the service of the house of the LORD.

⁷ Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.

⁸ who shall also confirm that ye shall remain unimpeachable unto the end, in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁷ that he might present her glorious for himself, a congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

⁶ being confident of this very thing, that he who has begun a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ.

¹⁰ that ye may approve the best, that ye may be sincere and without offense until the day of Christ,

¹⁵ that ye may be blameless and innocent, children of God without rebuke in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world,

²² in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight

¹⁷ And say to Archippus, Take heed to fulfil the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord.

¹³ that your hearts may be confirmed in holiness, irreprehensible before God, even our Father, for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

²³ ¶ And the very God of peace sanctify you completely, that your spirit, soul, and body be preserved whole without reprehension for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹ ¶ Now we beseech you, brethren, regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together unto him,

⁸ And then shall that Wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of his mouth and remove with the clarity of his coming:

¹¹ Command and teach this. ¹² Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the faithful in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. ¹³ Until I come, occupy thyself reading, exhorting, teaching. ¹⁴ Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which is given unto thee to prophesy, through the laying on of the hands of the elders. ¹⁵ Occupy thyself in these things with care, for in this is everything, that thy profiting may be manifest unto all. ¹⁶ Take heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine; be diligent in this, for in doing so thou shalt both save thyself and those that hear thee.

¹ ¶ I charge thee, therefore, before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead in his appearing and in his kingdom:

¹³ waiting for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ,

¹⁴ how much more shall the blood of the Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from the works of death to serve the living God?

²⁸ so also the Christ is offered once to take away the sins of many; and unto those that wait for him without sin he shall appear the second time unto saving health.

⁷ that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold (which perishes, nevertheless it is tried with fire), might be found unto praise and glory and honour when Jesus, the Christ, is made manifest;

¹⁹ but with the precious blood of the Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without contamination,

¹⁴ Therefore, beloved, seeing that ye hope for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot and blameless.

² Beloved, now we are the sons of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be; but we know that if he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

²⁴ Now unto him that is powerful to keep you without sin and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

⁷ Behold, he comes with the clouds, and every eye shall see him and those also who pierced him; and all kindreds of the earth shall wail over him. Even so, Amen.

¹² Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra, the priest, perfect scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and to Cheenet.

² For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.

¹⁸ That they may know that thou, whose name alone is LORD, art the most high over all the earth.

¹⁵ By me the kings reign, and the princes decree justice.

¹⁰ But the LORD God is the Truth, he himself is Living God and Everlasting King: at his wrath the earth trembles, and the Gentiles shall not be able to abide his indignation.

¹⁸ As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of the hosts, Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings the God of heaven shall raise up a kingdom which eternally shall never become corrupted, and this kingdom shall not be left to another people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. ⁴⁵ In the manner which thou didst see that out of the mountain was cut one stone, not with hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has shown the king what shall come to pass hereafter; and the dream is true, and its interpretation sure. ⁴⁶ ¶ Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face and humbled himself before Daniel and commanded that they should sacrifice presents and sweet odours unto him. ⁴⁷ The king answered unto Daniel and said, Certainly the God that is your God is God of gods and the Lord of the kings and the revealer of the mysteries, seeing thou could reveal this mystery.

³⁴ ¶ But at the end of the time I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up my eyes unto heaven, and my understanding was returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and glorified him that lives for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is through all ages:

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

¹¹ according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

¹⁷ Therefore unto the King forever, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

⁶ who gave himself in ransom for all, the testimony of which was confirmed at the time,

¹⁴ ¶ These shall make war against the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them; for he is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those that are with him are called and chosen and faithful.

¹⁶ And he has on his garment and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

¹⁴ And God answered unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM. And he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the sons of Israel: I AM (YHWH) has sent me unto you.

²⁰ He further said, Thou canst not see my face; for no man shall see me and live.

⁴⁰ When I shall lift up my hand to the heavens and shall say, I live for ever,

² Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

² who dost cover thyself with light as with a garment, who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain,

¹⁵ For thus has said the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is The Holy One; I dwell in the high place and in holiness and with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit to cause the spirit of the humble to live and to cause the heart of the contrite ones to live.

⁴ And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand; and there was hidden his strength.

¹⁸ No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.

⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is of God, he has seen the Father.

⁵⁸ Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM.

⁹ Jesus said unto him, Have I been such a long time with you, and yet thou hast not known me, Philip? He that has seen me has seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

²⁵ ¶ Now to him that is able to confirm you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was concealed from times eternal ²⁶ but now is made manifest, and by the writings of the prophets, by the commandment of God eternal, declared unto all the Gentiles, that they might hear and obey by faith, ²⁷ to God, only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.

²¹ unto him be glory in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} by Christ Jesus throughout all generations of the ages of the ages. Amen.

²⁰ ¶ Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁵ who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature;

⁸ Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and for the ages.

⁵ ¶ This then is the promise which we have heard of him and declare unto you, That God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

²⁵ to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, now and in all the ages. Amen.

⁶ and has made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

⁸ I AM the Alpha and the Omega, beginning and end, saith the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

¹⁶ And he had in his right hand seven stars, and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword, and his countenance was as the sun when it shines in its strength. ¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I AM the first and the last, ¹⁸ and he that lives and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen, and have the keys of Hades and of death.

¹¹ Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and virtue; for thou hast created all things, and by thy will they have their being and were created.

¹² saying, Amen: The blessing and the glory and the wisdom and the thanksgiving and the honour and the power and the might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.

³ And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold the tabernacle of God with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them and be their God.

⁵ And there shall be no night there; and they need no lamp neither light of the sun; for the Lord God shall give them light; and they shall reign for ever and ever.

² And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

¹⁰ And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give it unto thee: great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build, ¹¹ and houses full of all good things, which thou didst not fill, and hewn out wells, which thou didst not dig, vineyards and olive trees, which thou didst not plant; when thou shalt have eaten and be full, ¹² then beware lest thou forget the LORD, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.

¹⁷ and thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.

¹⁵ and for the summit of the ancient mountains and for the gifts of the everlasting hills,

¹⁶ ¶ But when he was strengthened, his heart lifted itself up unto corruption, for he rebelled against the LORD his God, entering into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

²⁵ But Hezekiah did not render again according to the benefit done unto him, for his heart lifted itself up; therefore there was wrath against him and against Judah and Jerusalem. ²⁶ Notwithstanding, Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

¹ ¶ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and departed from evil. ² And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. ³ His substance was seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she asses, and a very great store of servants, so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

²⁴ ¶ If I have made gold my hope or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence; ²⁵ if I rejoiced because my wealth was being multiplied, and because my hand had gotten much;

³ For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire and blesses the covetous, whom the LORD abhors. ⁴ The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, does not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

⁷ Behold, this is the man that did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

⁸ ¶ Wait in him at all times; ye peoples, pour out your heart before him; God is our refuge. Selah.

¹⁰ Trust not in violence and become not vain in the taking of spoil; if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore they are crowned with pride; they cover themselves with violence as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness; they easily obtain the desires of their heart. ⁸ They are lawless and speak wickedly of doing violence; they speak loftily. ⁹ They set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue walks through the earth.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield unto us; the LORD will give grace and glory; he will not withhold good from those that walk uprightly. ¹² O LORD of the hosts, happy is the man that trusts in thee.

²⁸ Thou givest unto them, they gather; thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.

⁸ It is better to wait upon the LORD than to wait upon man. ⁹ It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

²⁸ ¶ He that trusts in his riches shall fall, but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

⁵ Wilt thou set thine eyes upon riches which are not? For they shall certainly make themselves wings; they shall fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

⁹ Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and blaspheme the name of my God.

¹³ There is another sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt; ¹⁴ which are lost by evil pursuits and to the sons which he has begotten; there is nothing left in his hand.

¹⁸ ¶ Behold therefore the good which I have seen: that good is to eat and to drink and to enjoy of the good of all his labour that he takes under the sun all the days of his life, which God gives him; for it is his portion. ¹⁹ Likewise, unto every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, he has also given him power to eat thereof and to take his portion and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.

³¹ O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? Why do my people say, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

²³ ¶ Thus hath the LORD said, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches; ²⁴ but let him that glories glory in this, that he understands me and knows me, that I am the LORD who does mercy, judgment, and righteousness in the earth: for in these things I delight, said the LORD.

⁷ Blessed is the man that is steadfast in the LORD and whose trust is the LORD. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out her roots by the river and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green and shall not be fatigued in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the afflicted and needy. ⁵⁰ And they filled themselves with arrogance and committed abomination before me, and when I saw it, I took them away.

⁵⁶ Sodom, thy sister was not mentioned by thy mouth in the time of thy pride,

³⁰ the king spoke and said, Is this not the great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power and for the glory of my greatness?

¹⁹ and by the greatness that he gave him, all the peoples, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him; whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he humbled. ²⁰ But when his heart made itself arrogant, and his spirit hardened itself in pride, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom, and they took his glory from him: ²¹ and he was driven from among the sons of men; and his heart was put with the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they made him eat grass like an ox, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven until he understood that the most high God takes rule of the kingdom of men and that he appoints over it whomever he will. ²² And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this; ²³ but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou and thy princes, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; furthermore, thou hast praised gods of silver and of gold, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand is thy soul and whose are all thy ways, thou hast never honoured.

⁶ In their pastures, they filled themselves; they were satisfied, and their heart was exalted; for this reason they have forgotten me.

¹⁵ He shall take up all of them with his hook; he shall catch them in his net and gather them in his drag: therefore, he shall rejoice and be glad. ¹⁶ Therefore, he shall sacrifice unto his net and burn incense unto his drag because by them his portion is fat, and his food plenteous.

³² For the Gentiles seek after all these things.) For your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things.

²³ ¶ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, It is difficult that a rich man shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

⁵⁷ ¶ When the evening was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also had been a disciple of Jesus;

²⁴ And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answered again and said unto them, Children, how hard is it for those that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for a man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses. ¹⁶ And he spoke a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully; ¹⁷ and he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my storehouses and build greater, and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

² and, behold, a man named Zacchaeus, who was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

⁹ And Jesus said unto him, This day saving health is come to this house, inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham. ¹⁰ For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

¹⁷ Nevertheless he did not leave himself without witness, in that he did good and gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

²⁷ And when they were come and had gathered the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} together, they related what great things God had done with them and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.

²⁰ Good; because of their unbelief they were broken off, but thou by faith art standing. Do not be highminded, but fear

⁵ For this ye know, that no fornicator nor unclean person nor covetous man, who is also an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

¹⁶ Let the word of the Christ dwell in you in abundance in all wisdom, teaching you and exhorting you one to another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with grace singing in your hearts unto the Lord.

⁹ For they themselves tell of us what an entrance we had unto you and in what manner ye were converted to God from idols to serve the living and true God

¹⁵ But if I tarry long, that thou may know how it is expedient to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of the living God, the pillar and base of the truth.

¹⁰ For this we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world;

⁶ which he poured out abundantly in us through Jesus, the Christ, our Saviour;

⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in his high status; ¹⁰ and he who is rich, in his low status, because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

⁶ Reward her even as she rewarded you and pay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has given thee to drink, give her double. ⁷ As much as she has glorified herself and lived deliciously, give her that much torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

⁷ If there should be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy towns in thy land which the LORD thy God gives thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother, ⁸ but thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he lacks. ⁹ Keep thyself that there not be a thought of Belial in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother to give him nothing; for he shall cry unto the LORD against thee, and it shall be a sin unto thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt surely give unto him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him because for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works and in all that thou puttest thine hand to. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land; therefore, I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor and to thy needy, in thy land.

¹⁶ And they buried him in the city of David among the kings because he had done good in Israel, both toward God and toward his house.

³ Beth Wait in the LORD and do good; live in the land and uphold the truth.

⁹ Pe He has dispersed; he has given to the poor; Tzaddi his righteousness endures for ever; Koph his horn shall be exalted in glory.

²⁴ ¶ There are those who scatter, and more is added unto them; and there are those who withhold more than is just, but come to poverty. ²⁵ ¶ The soul who is a blessing unto others shall be made fat, and he that fills shall be filled also himself.

¹² I have learned that there is nothing better for them, but to rejoice and to do good in his life.

¹ ¶ Cast thy bread upon the waters, for thou shalt find it after many days. ² Give a portion to seven and even to eight, for thou dost not know what evil shall come upon the earth.

⁶ In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand; for thou knowest not which shall prosper, either this or that or whether they both shall be equally good.

⁸ But the liberal devises liberal things; and by liberal things shall he rise.

⁷ Is it not to share thy bread with the hungry and that thou bring the poor that are cast out into thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou not hide thyself from thy brother?

³³ And if ye do good to those who do good to you, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also do even the same. ³⁴ And if ye lend to those of whom ye hope to receive, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also lend to sinners to receive as much again. ³⁵ But rather love ye your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward shall be great; and ye shall be the sons of the Most High, for he is kind even unto the unthankful and to the evil.

²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself and is not rich in God.

¹² Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen nor thy rich neighbours, lest they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made thee. ¹³ But when thou makest a banquet, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, ¹⁴ and thou shalt be blessed, for they cannot recompense thee; for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

⁴⁴ And all that believed were together and had all things common ⁴⁵ and sold their possessions and property and distributed them to everyone, as each one had need.

³⁴ Neither was there any among them that lacked, for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them and brought the prices of the things that were sold ³⁵ and laid them down at the apostles’ feet; and distribution was made unto each one according to their need. ³⁶ Then Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation), a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, ³⁷ having land, sold it and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

³⁶ ¶ Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas; this woman was full of good works and alms-deeds {lit. acts of mercy} which she did.

³⁸ how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil, for God was with him.

²⁹ Then the disciples, each one according to what he had, determined to send relief unto the brethren who dwelt in Judea,

⁸ he that exhorts, in exhortation; he that gives, let him do it in simplicity; he that presides, in earnest care; he that shows mercy, in cheerfulness.

¹³ sharing for the needs of the saints, and given to hospitality.

² Each first sabbath let each one of you set aside in store, as God has prospered him, that there be no collections when I come.

¹ ¶ Likewise, brethren, we make known unto you the grace of God bestowed on the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of Macedonia, ² how that in a great trial of tribulation the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor that ye through his poverty might be enriched.

¹² For if there is first a willing desire, it is accepted according to what a person has and not according to what they do not have.

⁶ ¶ But this I say, He who sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly, and he who sows in blessings shall also reap blessings. ⁷ Each one according as they purpose in their heart, so let them give, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound in you that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: ⁹ As it is written, He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains for ever. ¹⁰ Now he that supplies seed to the sower shall also supply bread for food and shall multiply your seed sown and shall increase the growing of the fruits of your righteousness, ¹¹ so that being enriched in everything to all generosity, which works out through us thanksgiving unto God. ¹² For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also abounds in much thanksgiving unto God; ¹³ that by the experience of this ministration, they glorify God for the obedience of your consent unto the gospel of the Christ and in your liberal distribution unto them and unto everyone, ¹⁴ and in their prayer for you, for they love you because of the eminent grace of God in you. ¹⁵ Thanks be unto God for his indescribable gift.

¹⁰ Therefore as long as we have the opportunity, let us do good unto everyone, especially unto those who are of the household of faith.

¹⁸ But I have all and abound; I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. ¹⁹ But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

¹⁴ who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a people of his own, zealous of good works.

¹⁶ Do not forget to do good and to fellowship; for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world that they might be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those that love him?

¹⁷ But whosoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother have need and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how does the charity of God abide in him?

¹¹ Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that does good is of God, but he that does evil has not seen God.

¹⁴ from men, with thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, who have their portion in this life and whose belly thou dost fill with thy provision: they satisfy their sons and leave the rest to their family.

²⁵ When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more, but the righteous is founded for ever.

²⁵ Ain Strength and glory is her clothing, and she shall laugh in the last day.

¹⁹ ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal; ²⁰ but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupt and where thieves do not break through nor steal; ²¹ for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

⁴¹ He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward, and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. ⁴² And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

²¹ Jesus said unto him, If thou desire to be perfect, go and sell what thou hast and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come and follow me.

³⁴ Then shall the King say unto those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; ³⁵ for I was hungry, and ye gave me food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; ³⁶ naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. ³⁷ Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee? or thirsty and give thee drink? ³⁸ When did we see thee a stranger and take thee in? or naked and clothe thee? ³⁹ Or when did we see thee sick or in prison and come unto thee? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers, ye have done it unto me.

⁴⁸ he is like a man who built a house and dug deep and laid the foundation upon rock; and when the flood arose, the river beat vehemently upon that house and could not shake it, for it was founded upon rock. ⁴⁹ But he that hears and does not do is like a man that built a house upon the earth without a foundation against which the river beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

³³ Sell what ye have and give alms; {lit. do acts of mercy}; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches neither moth corrupts.

⁹ And I say unto you, Make friends unto yourselves with the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when these fail, you may be received into eternal dwellings.

²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime didst receive thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted here, and thou art tormented.

² saying, There was in a city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man;

²² Now when Jesus heard this, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.

⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that sows in the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life. ⁹ And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not.

¹⁷ that the Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith, that ye, being rooted and grounded in charity,

¹⁴ I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

¹⁹ ¶ Nevertheless, the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, The Lord knows those that are his. And, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

⁴ unto the incorruptible inheritance that cannot be defiled and that does not fade away, conserved in the heavens for you,

¹⁸ Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans and of the Stoics encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? others, He seems to be a setter forth of new gods, because he preached unto them Jesus and the resurrection.

²¹ (For all the Athenians and strangers who were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.)

²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools

² Much in every way: first, certainly, that the oracles of God have been entrusted unto them.

¹⁹ For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. ²⁰ Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the philosopher of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? ²¹ For in the wisdom of God, since the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those that believe. ²² For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom, ²³ but we preach Christ crucified, {Gr. Stauroo – hung on a stake}, unto the Jews a stumblingblock and unto the Gentiles foolishness;

⁶ ¶ For we speak perfect wisdom of God, and not the wisdom of this age nor of the princes of this age, that come to nought,

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He takes the wise in their own craftiness.

⁸ Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the traditions of men, according to the elements of the world, and not after Christ.

⁴ so that we ourselves glory in you in the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure and

¹⁵ Therefore, brethren, stand fast and retain the doctrine which ye have been taught, whether by word or our epistle.

⁷ But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

⁴ he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but is driven mad concerning questions and controversy of words, of which comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, ⁵ perverse disputings of men of corrupt understanding, and destitute of the truth, using piety as a source of gain: from such withdraw thyself.

¹¹ But thou, O man of God, flee these things and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, charity, tolerance, meekness.

¹⁴ that thou keep the commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹² For which cause I also suffer these things; nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. ¹³ Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and charity which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁴ Keep the good deposit committed unto thee by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us.

¹ ¶ Thou, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

¹⁶ But avoid profane and vain wordiness, for it will develop into ungodliness.

¹⁴ But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and in that which has been entrusted unto thee, knowing of whom thou hast learned them, ¹⁵ and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto saving health by the faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

⁴ to Titus, true son in the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus, the Christ, our Saviour.

¹⁴ not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

⁷ to all that are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints; ye have grace and peace of God our Father and of the Lord Jesus, the Christ.

²⁰ And let the God of peace bruise Satan under your feet quickly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

²³ Gaius my host, and of the whole congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, salutes you. Erastus, the chamberlain of the city, salutes you, and Quartus, a brother.

¹⁸ The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen.

¹⁹ holding fast faith and a good conscience, which some, having cast away, have shipwrecked in their faith,

¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil, which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹⁸ who have erred from the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past and have overthrown the faith of some.

²² The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.

¹⁵ All that are with me salute thee. Greet those that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.

¹ ¶ For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never make perfect those who come by the same sacrifices which they offer year by year continually. ² Otherwise, they would cease to offer them, because those that sacrifice, once purged, would have no more conscience of sin. ³ But in these sacrifices each year the same remembrance of sins is made. ⁴ For the blood of bulls and of goats cannot take away sins. ⁵ Therefore when he came into the world, he said, Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire, but a body hast thou prepared me; ⁶ in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. ⁷ ¶ Then said I, Behold, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God. ⁸ Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou dost not desire, neither hadst pleasure therein, which are offered by the law; ⁹ then he said, Behold, I come to do thy will, O God. He took away the first, that he may establish the second. ¹⁰ In this will, we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus, the Christ, once for all. ¹¹ And so every priest stands daily ministering and offering many times the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins, ¹² but this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, is seated at the right hand of God,

²⁵ Grace be with you all. Amen.
