¹ ¶ And David spoke the words of this song unto the LORD in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies and out of the hand of Saul. ² ¶ And he said, The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. ³ God is my Strong One; in him will I trust: he is my shield and the horn of my saving health; my defence and my refuge; my saviour, who shall save me from violence. ⁴ I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies. ⁵ When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of Belial made me afraid; ⁶ when the cords of Sheol compassed me about; the snares of death came before me; ⁷ in my distress I called upon the LORD and cried to my God, who heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry entered into his ears. ⁸ Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of the heavens were moved and shook because he was wroth. ⁹ Smoke went up from his nostrils, and fire devoured out of his mouth; coals were kindled by it. ¹⁰ And he lowered the heavens and came down, and darkness was under his feet. ¹¹ And he rode upon a cherub and flew; and he appeared upon the wings of the wind. ¹² He placed darkness like tabernacles round about him, dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. ¹³ From the brightness of his presence, coals of fire were kindled. ¹⁴ The LORD thundered from the heavens, and the most High uttered his voice; ¹⁵ he sent out arrows and scattered them; he sent forth lightning, and consumed them. ¹⁶ Then the springs of the sea appeared and the foundations of the world were uncovered, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils. ¹⁷ He extended his hand from above, he took me; he drew me out of the impetuous waters; ¹⁸ he delivered me from strong enemies, from those that hated me, who were stronger than I. ¹⁹ They came upon me unawares in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my stay. ²⁰ He brought me forth into a large place; he delivered me, because he had put his will in me. ²¹ The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has recompensed me. ²² For I have kept the ways of the LORD and have not wickedly departed from my God. ²³ For I have all his ordinances before me and am attentive to his statutes; I will not depart from them. ²⁴ And I was perfect before him and have kept myself from my iniquity. ²⁵ Therefore, the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness before his eyes. ²⁶ With the merciful thou art good, and with the perfect thou art upright. ²⁷ With the pure thou art pure, and with the perverse thou art an adversary. ²⁸ Thou wilt save the poor in spirit; but thine eyes are upon the haughty that thou may bring them down. ²⁹ For thou art my lamp, O LORD, and the LORD gives light unto my darkness. ³⁰ For in thee I have run through a troop; with my God I have gone over the walls. ³¹ As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is purified; he is a shield to all those that trust in him. ³² For what God is there except the LORD? Or who is a Strong One, except our God? ³³ God is he who strengthens me with virtue; he who clears my way; ³⁴ he who makes my feet like hinds’ feet, and he who sets me upon my high places; ³⁵ he who trains my hands for war and causes my arms to break the bow of bronze. ³⁶ Thou hast also given me the shield of thy saving health, and thy meekness has multiplied me. ³⁷ Thou hast enlarged my steps under me so that my knees did not shake. ³⁸ I have pursued my enemies and destroyed them and did not return until I had consumed them. ³⁹ And I consumed them and wounded them, and they did not arise; they are fallen under my feet. ⁴⁰ For thou hast girded me with strength for the battle; thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. ⁴¹ Thou hast given me the necks of my enemies, of those that hate me, that I might cut them off. ⁴² They looked, but there was no one to save them; even unto the LORD, but he did not answer them. ⁴³ Then I beat them as small as the dust of the earth; I stamped them as the mire of the street and spread them abroad. ⁴⁴ Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of peoples; thou hast kept me to be head of the Gentiles; peoples whom I did not know have served me. ⁴⁵ The strangers trembled before my command; as soon as they heard, they obeyed me. ⁴⁶ The strangers withered away and trembled in their close places. ⁴⁷ The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God who is the rock of my salvation. ⁴⁸ The God who has given me revenge and who subjects the peoples under me, ⁴⁹ who brings me forth from among my enemies; thou hast lifted me up on high from among those that rose up against me; thou hast delivered me from the man of violence. ⁵⁰ Therefore, I will confess thee among the Gentiles, O LORD, and I will sing unto thy name. ⁵¹ He who makes great the saving health of his king and shows mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for ever.

¹ ¶ Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song unto the LORD and spoke, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.

¹ ¶ Then sang Deborah with Barak, the son of Abinoam, on that day, saying,

¹⁴ ¶ And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds and remained in a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, but God did not deliver him into his hand.

¹⁵ The LORD, therefore, shall judge, and he shall judge between me and thee. Let him see and plead my cause, and defend me from thy hand.

²⁹ Yet a man is risen to pursue thee and to seek thy soul, but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God, and he shall hurl forth the souls of thine enemies as out of the middle of a sling.

²⁴ And, behold, as thy life has been esteemed today in my eyes, so let my life be esteemed in the eyes of the LORD and let him deliver me out of all affliction.

¹ ¶ And David said in his heart, In the end I shall be killed some day by the hand of Saul; there is nothing better for me than that I should escape once and for all into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more within the borders of Israel; so shall I escape out of his hand.

⁴⁹ who brings me forth from among my enemies; thou hast lifted me up on high from among those that rose up against me; thou hast delivered me from the man of violence.

¹ To the Overcomer, A Psalm of David, the slave of the LORD, who spoke unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said, ¶ I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. ² The LORD is my rock and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. ³ I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, so shall I be saved from my enemies. ⁴ The pain of death compassed me, and the rivers of Belial made me afraid. ⁵ The pain of Sheol compassed me about: the snares of death came before me. ⁶ In my distress I called upon the LORD and cried unto my God; he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. ⁷ Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of the mountains collapsed and were removed because he was wroth. ⁸ Smoke went up out of his nostrils, and fire devoured out of his mouth; coals were kindled by it. ⁹ He lowered the heavens and came down; and darkness was under his feet. ¹⁰ And he rode upon a cherub and flew: yea, he flew upon the wings of the wind. ¹¹ He made darkness his hiding place; in his tabernacle round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the heavens. ¹² At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire. ¹³ The LORD thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire. ¹⁴ He sent out his arrows and scattered them; he shot out lightnings and destroyed them. ¹⁵ Then the depths of the waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils. ¹⁶ He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. ¹⁷ He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from those who hated me, even though they were too strong for me. ¹⁸ They were ready for me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my staff. ¹⁹ He brought me forth also into a wide place; he delivered me because he delighted in me. ²⁰ ¶ The LORD will reward me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he shall recompense me. ²¹ Because I have kept the ways of the LORD and did not become wicked departing in apostasy from my God. ²² For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me. ²³ I was perfect before him, and I kept myself from my iniquity. ²⁴ Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands before his eyes. ²⁵ With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful; with a perfect man thou wilt show thyself perfect; ²⁶ with the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the perverse thou wilt show thyself adversary. ²⁷ Therefore thou wilt save the humble people; but wilt bring down high looks. ²⁸ For thou wilt light my fire: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. ²⁹ ¶ For with thee I have scattered armies; and in my God I have overcome walled defenses. ³⁰ As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is precise: a shield to all those that wait in him. ³¹ For who is God except the LORD? or who is a refuge except our God? ³² It is God that girds me with strength and makes my way perfect. ³³ He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and sets me upon my high places. ³⁴ He trains my hands for the battle, so that a bow of bronze shall be broken by my arms. ³⁵ In the same manner thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand will hold me up, and thy meekness shall multiply me. ³⁶ Thou shall enlarge my steps under me, and my knees shall not tremble. ³⁷ I shall pursue my enemies and overtake them: neither shall I turn again until they are consumed. ³⁸ I shall smite them, and they will not be able to rise: they shall fall under my feet. ³⁹ For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued my enemies under me. ⁴⁰ Thou hast also given me the necks of my enemies that I might destroy those that hate me. ⁴¹ They cried out, but there was no one to save them: even unto the LORD, but he did not answer them. ⁴² Then I beat them as small as the dust before the wind: I scattered them as the dirt in the streets. ⁴³ Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the Gentiles: a people whom I did not know served me. ⁴⁴ As soon as they heard of me, they obeyed me: the sons of strangers submitted themselves unto me even against their will. ⁴⁵ The strangers fell away and were afraid in their close places. ⁴⁶ The LORD lives; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. ⁴⁷ It is God that avenges me and subdues the peoples under me. ⁴⁸ He delivers me from my enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the one who would betray me. ⁴⁹ Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the Gentiles and sing praises unto thy name. ⁵⁰ He gives great deliverance to his king and shows mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.

¹⁹ Koph Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD shall deliver him out of them all,

¹⁴ Sacrifice praise unto God and pay thy vows unto the most High

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless the name of his holiness. ² Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: ³ Who forgives all thine iniquities; who heals all thy diseases; ⁴ who redeems thy life from destruction; who crowns thee with mercy and compassion; ⁵ who satisfies thy mouth with good things so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s. ⁶ ¶ The LORD executes righteousness and justice unto all that suffer violence.

¹ ¶ I love the LORD, because he has heard my voice and my supplications. ² Because he has inclined his ear unto me, therefore I will call upon him all of my days. ³ The sorrows of death compassed me and the pains of Sheol found me; I encountered trouble and sorrow. ⁴ Then I called upon the name of the LORD, saying, O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul. ⁵ Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful. ⁶ The LORD preserves the simple; I was brought low, and he saved me. ⁷ Return unto thy rest, O my soul, for the LORD has dealt bountifully with thee. ⁸ For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. ⁹ I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living. ¹⁰ ¶ I believed, therefore I spoke, and was greatly afflicted; ¹¹ I said in my haste, All men are liars. ¹² What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? ¹³ I will take the cup of saving health and invoke the name of the LORD. ¹⁴ I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people. ¹⁵ Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his merciful ones. ¹⁶ This is so, O LORD, because I am thy slave; I am thy slave, the son of thine handmaid; thou hast loosed my bonds. ¹⁷ I will offer unto thee the sacrifice of praise and will invoke the name of the LORD. ¹⁸ I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people, ¹⁹ in the courts of the LORD’s house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. ¹ ¶ And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will sing unto thee; though thou wast angry with me, thine anger is turned away, and thou hast comforted me. ² Behold, O God my saving health, I will trust and not be afraid for JAH, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he also is become saving health unto me. ³ Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of saving health. ⁴ ¶ And in that day ye shall say, Sing unto the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the peoples, remember how his name is exalted. ⁵ Sing psalms unto the LORD; for he has done excellent things; let this be known in all the earth. ⁶ Rejoice and sing, thou inhabitant of Zion: for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.

¹⁰ who delivered us from so great a death and does deliver; in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work and will save me for his heavenly kingdom, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

⁹ After this I saw, and, behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and kindreds and peoples and tongues stood before the throne and before the Lamb clothed with long white robes and palms in their hands ¹⁰ and cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation unto him who is seated upon the throne of our God and unto the Lamb. ¹¹ And all the angels stood round about the throne and about the elders and the four animals; and they fell upon their faces before the throne and worshipped God, ¹² saying, Amen: The blessing and the glory and the wisdom and the thanksgiving and the honour and the power and the might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. ¹³ ¶ And one of the elders responded and asked me, Who are these who are arrayed in long white robes? and where did they come from? ¹⁴ And I said unto him, lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are those who came out of great tribulation and have washed their long robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple, and he that is seated on the throne shall dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun be thrust upon them nor any other heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall govern them and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters, and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

⁴ The strong One, whose work is perfect: for all his ways are right; a God of truth and without iniquity, just and upright is he.

² There is none holy as the LORD, for there is none beside thee; neither is there any strong One like our God.

³ For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake thou shalt lead me and guide me.

⁹ I will say unto God, My rock, why hast thou forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

³ Be thou my strong habitation unto which I may continually resort; thou hast given a commandment that I should be saved because thou art my rock and my fortress.

² I will say of the LORD, He is my hope and my fortress: my God; in him will I secure myself.

² My mercy and my fortress; my high tower and my deliverer; my shield and he in whom I trust, who subdues my people under me.

¹⁸ And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, a small rock and upon the large rock I will build my congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against her.

¹ ¶ After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram; I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.

³⁷ And he shall say, Where are their gods, their strong one in whom they trusted,

²⁹ Blessed art thou, O Israel, who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help and the sword of thy excellency? Thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee, and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

¹ ¶ And Hannah prayed and said, My heart rejoices in the LORD, my horn is exalted in the LORD; my mouth is enlarged over my enemies because I have rejoiced in thy saving health.

⁵¹ He who makes great the saving health of his king and shows mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for ever.

³ But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory and the lifter up of my head.

¹² For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

⁹ The LORD also will be a refuge to the humble, a refuge for the time of trouble.

⁶ Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor because the LORD is his hope.

² The LORD is my rock and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

⁵ For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his tabernacle; in the secret of his tent shall he hide me; he shall set me high upon a rock.

⁹ ¶ Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues, for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

³ For thou hast been a shelter for me and a strong tower from the enemy.

⁷ I am as a wonder unto many, but thou art my strong refuge.

¹¹ The man with an evil tongue shall not be established in the earth; evil shall hunt the man of violence to overthrow him.

⁴ ¶ I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no one that would know me; I had no refuge; no one cared for my soul.

¹⁰ ¶ The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous shall run into it, and be raised up.

⁵ Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto those that put their trust in him.

² Behold, O God my saving health, I will trust and not be afraid for JAH, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he also is become saving health unto me.

² And that man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a hot land.

²¹ Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together; who caused this to be heard from the beginning and has declared it from that time, except me, the LORD? and there is no God beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is no one besides me.

⁹ For thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said: Behold, I will cause to cease in this place before your eyes and in your days, every voice of mirth and every voice of gladness, every voice of the bridegroom, and every voice of the bride.

¹⁹ O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the time of the affliction; Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things in which there is no profit.

⁴⁷ and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saving Health,

⁶⁹ And has raised up a horn of saving health for us in the house of his servant David,

⁷¹ salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all that hate us;

⁴ But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

⁶ which he poured out abundantly in us through Jesus, the Christ, our Saviour;

¹³ And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God has given me.

⁵ Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah said, Stand up and bless the LORD your God for ever and ever; and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.

³ I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, so shall I be saved from my enemies.

⁶ Vau This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.

¹ A Song and Psalm
for the sons of Korah. ¶ Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

¹⁵ and call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

¹⁶ ¶ As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me.

⁹ When I cry unto thee, then shall my enemies be turned back; in this I know that God is for me.

¹ To the Overcomer upon,
Do not destroy, Michtam of David, when he fled from the presence of Saul in the cave. ¶ Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusts in thee; and in the shadow of thy wings I will make my refuge until these calamities are overpast. ² I will cry unto God most high, unto God that performs all things for me. ³ He shall send from the heavens and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. ⁴ For the LORD is great and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods.

² Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? Who can show forth all his praise?

² Because he has inclined his ear unto me, therefore I will call upon him all of my days.

⁴ Then I called upon the name of the LORD, saying, O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.

¹ ¶ Halelu-JAH. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights. ² Praise ye him, all his angels; praise ye him, all his hosts. ³ Praise ye him, sun and moon; praise him, all ye stars of light. ⁴ Praise him, ye heavens of heavens and ye waters that are above the heavens.

¹³ For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

¹¹ Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and virtue; for thou hast created all things, and by thy will they have their being and were created.

¹² saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to take power and riches and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing.

⁴ The pain of death compassed me, and the rivers of Belial made me afraid.

¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not drown; let me be delivered from those that hate me and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Let not the violent force of the waters overcome me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

³ The rivers have lifted up, O LORD; the rivers have lifted up their voice; the rivers lift up their waves. ⁴ The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

¹⁹ So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he shall come like a violent river impelled by the breath {Spirit} of the LORD.

⁷ Who is this that comes up as a flood, whose waters move as rivers? ⁸ Egypt rises up like a flood, and his waters move like rivers; and he said, I will go up and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.

³ For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about; all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction shall come upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

¹⁵ And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a river after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the river. ¹⁶ And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon had cast out of his mouth.

¹ ¶ And there came one of the seven angels who had the seven vials and talked with me, saying unto me, Come here; I will show unto thee the condemnation of the great whore that sits upon many waters,

¹⁵ And he said unto me, The waters which thou hast seen, where the whore sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.

⁸ And if they were bound in fetters and captive in cords of affliction,

⁵ The pain of Sheol compassed me about: the snares of death came before me.

³ The sorrows of death compassed me and the pains of Sheol found me; I encountered trouble and sorrow.

⁵ The proud have hid a snare for me and cords; they have spread a net; on the path they have set snares for me. Selah.

²² His own iniquities shall take hold of the wicked, and he shall be imprisoned with the cords of his sins.

¹⁴ ¶ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

²⁷ The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

² and said, I cried by reason of my tribulation unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and thou didst hear my voice.

²⁴ whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death because it was not possible for him to be held by it.

⁷ ¶ And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

²⁸ Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy slave and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy slave prays before thee today, ²⁹ that thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there that thou may hearken unto the prayer which thy slave shall make in this place. ³⁰ Therefore, thou shalt hearken unto the supplication of thy slave and of thy people Israel when they shall pray in this place and hear in thy dwelling place, from the heavens; please hear and forgive.

⁶ In my distress I called upon the LORD and cried unto my God; he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

⁴ One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life to behold the beauty of the LORD and to enquire in his temple.

¹⁵ Samech The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. ¹⁶ Ain The anger of the LORD is against those that do evil to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. ¹⁷ Pe The righteous cried out, and the LORD heard and delivered them out of all their troubles.

¹ A Song of degrees. ¶ In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he answered me.

⁴ Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will see thy holy temple again.

⁷ When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer entered in unto thee in thy holy temple.

²⁰ But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

³⁸ Then he said unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death; tarry ye here and watch with me. ³⁹ And he went a little further and fell on his face, praying and saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

⁴⁴ And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, was heard because of his reverent fear;

⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts.

⁴ LORD, when thou didst go out of Seir, when thou didst march out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped; the clouds also dropped water.

¹¹ The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.

⁷ Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of the mountains collapsed and were removed because he was wroth.

¹⁸ The voice of thy thunder was all around; the lightnings lightened the world; the earth trembled and shook.

⁴ His lightnings enlightened the world; the earth saw and trembled.

⁵ The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, and the world and all that dwell therein.

⁶ He stood and measured the earth; he beheld and drove out the Gentiles; and the ancient mountains crumbled, the ancient hills; the ways of the world bowed unto him. ⁷ I saw the tents of Cushan as nothing, and the curtains of the land of Midian trembled. ⁸ Oh LORD, wast thou displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath even against the sea when thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of saving health? ⁹ Thy bow was entirely uncovered, and the oaths unto the tribes, eternal word, when thou didst divide the earth with rivers. ¹⁰ The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the waters passed by; the abyss uttered its voice; the deep lifted up its hands. ¹¹ The sun and the moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went and at the shining of thy glittering spear.

⁵¹ And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

² And, behold, there was a great earthquake, for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat upon it.

³¹ And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

⁷ And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown those that rose up against thee; thou didst send forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble. ⁸ And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as a heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.

¹⁸ And all Mount Sinai smoked because the LORD had descended upon it in fire, and its smoke ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

¹⁷ And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the sons of Israel.

²² For fire shall be kindled in my anger and shall burn unto the lowest part of Sheol and shall consume the earth with her fruit and burn up the foundations of the mountains.

¹³ From the brightness of his presence, coals of fire were kindled.

¹⁶ Then the springs of the sea appeared and the foundations of the world were uncovered, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

⁹ By the breath of God they perish, and by the spirit of his anger they are consumed.

²⁰ Out of his nostrils goes forth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. ²¹ His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth.

⁸ Smoke went up out of his nostrils, and fire devoured out of his mouth; coals were kindled by it.

¹⁵ Then the depths of the waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

³ A fire shall go before him and burn up his enemies round about. ⁴ His lightnings enlightened the world; the earth saw and trembled. ⁵ The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

²⁷ ¶ Behold, the name of the LORD comes from afar; his face is blazing and difficult to gaze upon: his lips are full of indignation and his tongue as a devouring fire:

³³ For Tophet is ordained of yesterday for the king of Babylon, it is also prepared; he has deepened and enlarged the pile of her fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD like a stream of brimstone kindles it.

¹⁴ Therefore thus hath the LORD God of the hosts said: Because ye have spoken this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

¹⁴ And I will make thee to serve thine enemies in a land which thou dost not know; for a fire is kindled in my anger, which shall burn upon you.

⁵ Before his face went mortality, and burning coals went forth from his feet.

²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

²¹ Then the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

¹¹ And ye came near and stood under the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of the heavens, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.

¹² ¶ Then Solomon said, The LORD has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

² Clouds and darkness are round about him; righteousness and judgment are the seat of his throne.

³ who dost establish his chambers between the waters, who makes the clouds his chariot, who walks upon the wings of the wind,

⁵ Bow thy heavens, O LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.

¹ ¶ Oh that thou would rend the heavens, that thou would come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence, ² as when the melting fire burns, the fire causes the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the Gentiles may tremble at thy presence! ³ As thou didst come down when thou didst terrible things which we did not look for, that the mountains flowed down at thy presence.

³ The LORD is slow to anger and great in power and will not at all treat the guilty as though they were innocent; the LORD whose way is in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

⁴⁵ Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

⁴⁴ ¶ And when it was about the sixth hour, there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. ⁴⁵ And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.

²⁴ So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way to keep the way of the tree of life.

¹⁹ And make one cherub on the one end and the other cherub on the other end: even of the seat of reconciliation shall ye make the cherubim on the two ends thereof.

⁴ So the people sent to Shiloh, and they brought from there the ark of the covenant of the LORD of the hosts, who dwells between the cherubim; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

¹⁰ And he rode upon a cherub and flew: yea, he flew upon the wings of the wind.

¹⁷ The chariots of God are two thousand, thousands of angels; the Lord is among them as in Sinai, in the sanctuary.

A testimony of Asaph: A Psalm. ¶ Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubim, shine forth.

¹ ¶ The LORD reigns; the peoples shall tremble; he who sits above the cherubim reigns; the earth shall be moved.

⁹ If I take the wings of the dawn and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

³ And the glory of the God of Israel went up from over the cherubim, upon which he had been, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, who had the writer’s inkhorn by his side;

² And he spoke to the man clothed with linen and said, Go in between the wheels under the cherubim and fill thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubim, and scatter them over the city. And he went in, in my sight. ³ Now the cherubim stood on the right side of the house when this man went in, and the cloud filled the inner court. ⁴ And the glory of the LORD had gone up from the cherubim to the threshold of the door, and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’s glory. ⁵ And the thunder of the cherubim’s wings was heard even to the outer court as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaks. ⁶ And it came to pass that when he had commanded the man clothed with linen, saying, Take fire from between the wheels, from between the cherubim; then he went in and stood among the wheels. ⁷ And one cherubim stretched forth his hand from between the cherubim unto the fire that was between the cherubim and took thereof and put it into the hands of him that was clothed with linen, who took it and went out. ⁸ ¶ And there appeared in the cherubim the form of a man’s hand under their wings. ⁹ And when I looked, behold, four wheels by the cherubim, one wheel by each cherubim; and the colour of the wheels was as a stone of Tarsis or beryl. ¹⁰ And as for their appearance, the four were the same, as if one were in the midst of another. ¹¹ When they went, they went upon their four sides; they did not turn as they went, but to the place where the first one went, they followed it; they did not turn as they went. ¹² And all their flesh and their ribs and their hands and their wings and the wheels: they were full of eyes round about in their four wheels. ¹³ To the wheels, it was shouted unto them in my hearing, Roll! ¹⁴ And each one had four faces: the first face was the face of a cherubim; the second face was the face of a man; the third the face of a lion; the fourth the face of an eagle.

¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth in service for the love of those who are the heirs of saving health?

¹⁰ And he lowered the heavens and came down, and darkness was under his feet.

²⁹ Shall you understand the spreadings of the clouds or the noise of his tent?

¹¹ He made darkness his hiding place; in his tabernacle round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the heavens. ¹² At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.

⁹ Smoke went up from his nostrils, and fire devoured out of his mouth; coals were kindled by it.

⁶ And ye shall be my kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the sons of Israel.

²⁰ They fought from the heavens; the stars from their ways fought against Sisera.

¹⁰ LORD, thine adversaries shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven he shall thunder upon them. The LORD shall judge the ends of the earth, and he shall give strength unto his king and exalt the horn of his anointed. {Heb. Messiah}

¹⁰ And it came to pass as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering that the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines and crushed them, and they were smitten before Israel.

¹⁷ Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great which ye have done in the sight of the LORD in asking for a king over you. ¹⁸ So Samuel called unto the LORD, and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day, and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

² Hear attentively his terrible voice and the word that goes out of his mouth. ³ He shall place it straight under the whole of the heavens, and his light shall extend unto the ends of the earth. ⁴ After it shall the sound roar; his valiant voice shall thunder; and he will not stay them even when his voice is heard. ⁵ God shall thunder marvelously with his voice; he does great things, which we cannot comprehend.

⁹ Hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

³ The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thunders: the LORD is upon many waters. ⁴ The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. ⁵ The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; yea, the LORD broke the cedars of Lebanon. ⁶ And He made them skip like a calves; Lebanon and Sirion like the sons of the unicorns. ⁷ The voice of the LORD divides the flames of fire. ⁸ The voice of the LORD that shall shake the wilderness; the LORD shall shake the wilderness of Kadesh. ⁹ The voice of the LORD shall make the hinds to calve and shall uncover the forests: and in his temple every one speaks to his glory.

¹⁶ The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid; the depths also were troubled. ¹⁷ The clouds poured out floods of waters; the heavens thundered; thy bolts of lightning also went forth. ¹⁸ The voice of thy thunder was all around; the lightnings lightened the world; the earth trembled and shook. ¹⁹ Thy way was in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps were not known.

³⁰ And the LORD shall cause the power of his voice to be heard and shall cause the lighting down of his arm to be seen, with the indignation of his countenance and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering and tempest and hailstones.

⁵ And the thunder of the cherubim’s wings was heard even to the outer court as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaks.

¹⁹ And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of his testament was seen in his temple: and there were lightnings and voices and thunderings and earthquakes and great hail.

²³ I will heap evils upon them; I will spend my arrows upon them.

¹⁰ And the LORD discomfited them before Israel and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon and chased them along the way that goes up to Bethhoron and smote them to Azekah and unto Makkedah.

¹² If he does not turn, he will whet his sword; he has bent his bow and made it ready. ¹³ He has also prepared for him the weapons of death; he ordains his arrows against the persecutors.

⁸ And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as a heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. ⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my soul shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. ¹⁰ Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them. They sank as lead in the mighty waters.

¹¹ and said, Thou shalt come unto here, but no further; and there shall the pride of thy waves be stayed.

⁹ He reprehended the Red sea also, and it was dried up, so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

³ The sea saw it and fled; Jordan was driven back. ⁴ The mountains skipped like rams and the little hills like lambs. ⁵ What came upon thee, O thou sea, that thou didst flee? And thou O Jordan, that thou wast driven back? ⁶ Ye mountains, why didst ye skip like rams and ye little hills, like lambs? ⁷ At the presence of the Lord, the earth trembles, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

¹⁰ And when the child grew, she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses, for she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

¹⁶ He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.

⁶ For this shall every one that is merciful pray unto thee in the time when thou may be found; surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come near unto him.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, that by me the preaching might be fully known and that all the Gentiles might hear, and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

¹¹ ¶ Saul also sent messengers unto David’s house to watch him and to slay him in the morning. But Michal, David’s wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life tonight, tomorrow thou shalt be dead. ¹² So Michal let David down through a window, and he went and fled and escaped. ¹³ Then Michal took an image and laid it in the bed and put a pillow of goats’ hair at his head and covered it with a cloth. ¹⁴ And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick. ¹⁵ And Saul sent the messengers again to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed that I may slay him. ¹⁶ And when the messengers were come in, behold, there was an image in the bed with a pillow of goats’ hair at his head. ¹⁷ And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so and sent away my enemy that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; if not, I shall kill thee.

²⁶ And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain; and David made haste to get away from the presence of Saul, for Saul and his men compassed David and his men round about to take them. ²⁷ But there came a messenger unto Saul, saying, Make haste and come, for the Philistines have invaded the land.

¹⁰ But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the shofar, then ye shall say, Absalom reigns in Hebron. ¹¹ And two hundred men of Jerusalem went with Absalom, that were invited by him, and they went in their integrity, without knowing anything. ¹² Absalom also sent for Ahithophel, the Gilonite, of David’s counsel, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom. ¹³ ¶ And the word came to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.

¹⁸ They were ready for me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my staff. ¹⁹ He brought me forth also into a wide place; he delivered me because he delighted in me.

⁴ Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff shall comfort me.

²⁰ Thou who hast caused me to see great and sore troubles, shalt return and quicken me and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth. ²¹ Thou shalt increase my greatness and comfort me on every side.

¹⁰ All the nations compassed me about; but in the name of the LORD I will cut them off. ¹¹ They compassed me about; yea, they laid hold of me; but in the name of the LORD I will cut them off. ¹² They compassed me about like bees; they were quenched as the fire of thorns; for in the name of the LORD I will cut them off. ¹³ Thou hast thrust at me with violence that I might fall, but the LORD helped me.

¹⁹ Thy dead shall live, and together with my body they shall arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the covering of light, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

¹⁰ ¶ Who is among you that fears the LORD? Hearken unto the voice of his slave. He who walked in darkness and had no light; let him trust in the name of the LORD and stay upon his God.

³⁹ And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, Thou that wouldst destroy the temple and build it in three days, save thyself. If thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}. ⁴¹ Likewise also the princes of the priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, ⁴² He saved others; he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, and we will believe him. ⁴³ He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him, for he said, I am the Son of God. ⁴⁴ The thieves also, who were crucified with him, reproached him with the same.

²² And he left there and opened another well; and for that one they did not strive and he called the name of it Rehoboth, and he said, For now the LORD has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.

²⁶ But if he should say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here I am, let him do to me as seems good unto him.

¹⁰ And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou would bless me indeed and enlarge my border and that thy hand might be with me and that thou would deliver me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

⁸ Turn him over to the LORD, let him deliver him, let him save him, seeing he delighted in him.

⁸ and hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; thou hast set my feet in a wide place.

⁵ From a tight place I called upon JAH; and JAH answered me and set me in a wide place.

¹¹ The LORD takes pleasure in those that fear him, in those that wait upon his mercy.

⁴ For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he will beautify the humble with saving health.

¹ ¶ Behold my slave, whom I uphold; my elect, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he shall give judgment unto the Gentiles.

¹⁶ for Israel has turned away as a wild heifer; shall the LORD now feed them as rams in a large place?

¹⁷ and, behold, a voice from the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

⁵ While he yet spoke, behold, a cloud of light overshadowed them, and, behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

⁴³ He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him, for he said, I am the Son of God.

³² This Jesus God has raised up, of whom we all are witnesses. ³³ Therefore being raised up by the right hand of God and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which ye now see and hear. ³⁴ For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand ³⁵ until I make thy foes thy footstool. ³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

²³ The LORD render to each one his righteousness and his faithfulness, for the LORD delivered thee into my hand today, but I would not stretch forth my hand against the LORD’s anointed.

²⁵ Therefore, the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness before his eyes.

³² thou shalt hear from heaven and do and judge thy slaves, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head, and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

⁹ The righteous shall hold on to his way, and he that has clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.

³ O LORD my God, if I have done this: if there is iniquity in my hands, ⁴ if I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me, then let my persecutor escape without retribution.

⁸ The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me.

²⁰ ¶ The LORD will reward me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he shall recompense me. ²¹ Because I have kept the ways of the LORD and did not become wicked departing in apostasy from my God. ²² For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me. ²³ I was perfect before him, and I kept myself from my iniquity. ²⁴ Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands before his eyes. ²⁵ With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful; with a perfect man thou wilt show thyself perfect;

¹¹ Moreover by them is thy slave warned, and in keeping them there is great reward.

⁴ He that has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not taken my name in vain, nor sworn deceitfully.

⁵⁸ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brothers, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

¹⁹ For I know him, that he will command his sons and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and judgment, that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he has spoken of him.

¹⁵ Then Moses was very angry and said unto the LORD, Look not thou upon their offering; I have not taken so much as one ass from them, neither have I done evil to any of them.

³ Behold, here I am; witness against me before the LORD and before his anointed. If I have taken anyone’s ox or if I have taken anyone’s ass or if I have defrauded anyone or if I have oppressed anyone or if I have received a bribe {Heb. ransom} from anyone to blind my eyes, I will restore it you.

¹⁰ But he has known the way that I take; he has tried me, and I have come forth as gold. ¹¹ My feet have held to his steps, I have kept his way, and have not departed. ¹² Neither have I separated myself from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

³ The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit; he has left off to be wise and to do good.

¹ ¶ ALEPH. Blessed are those who walk in the perfect way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

⁵ As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall take them away with the workers of iniquity; and peace shall be upon Israel.

¹ A Song of degrees. ¶ Blessed is every one that fears the LORD, that walks in his ways.

³² ¶ Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye sons; for blessed are those that keep my ways.

⁶ and those that have turned back from following the LORD and those that did not seek the LORD, nor enquired about him.

¹⁰ If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.

¹² ¶ For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with carnal wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world and more abundantly towards you.

³⁸ Now the just shall live by faith, but if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. ³⁹ But we are not of those who draw back unto perdition, but faithful unto the saving of the soul.

¹ ¶ Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the rights, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you that ye might do them in the land into which ye go to inherit it ² that thou might fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou and thy son and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life and that thy days may be prolonged.

⁶ And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart, ⁷ and thou shalt repeat them diligently unto thy sons and shalt talk of them being in thy house and walking by the way, lying down in bed, and rising up; ⁸ and thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thy eyes; ⁹ and thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house and on thy gates.

¹² ¶ And it shall come to pass, for having heard these rights and for having kept them by doing them that the LORD thy God shall keep the covenant with thee and the mercy which he swore unto thy fathers;

¹¹ Keep thyself, that thou forget not the LORD thy God, to not fulfill his commandments and his rights and his statutes, which I command thee this day,

⁸ The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. ⁹ The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever; the rights of the LORD are true, they are all just.

⁶ Then I shall not be ashamed, when I have insight unto all thy commandments.

¹³ ¶ With my lips I have declared all the judgments of thy mouth.

³⁰ ¶ I have chosen the way of truth; I have laid thy judgments before me.

⁸⁶ All thy commandments are of the same truth; they persecute me wrongfully; help me.

¹⁰² ¶ I have not departed from thy judgments, for thou hast taught me.

¹²⁸ Therefore I have esteemed all thy precepts concerning all things to be right and I have hated every false way.

⁶ And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless.

¹⁴ Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you.

⁹ These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

¹ ¶ And when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me and be thou perfect.

¹ ¶ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and departed from evil.

⁶ Behold, thou dost desire truth in the inward parts, and in the secret things thou hast made me to know wisdom.

²³ Above all else, guard thy heart; for out of it flows the issues of life.

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him and said of him, Behold a true Israelite, in whom is no guile!

¹¹ Therefore being certain of that terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God, and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

⁴ according as he has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before him in charity;

¹ ¶ Therefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, leaving behind all the weight of the sin which surrounds us, let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

²¹ The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has recompensed me.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he weighs all his goings.

¹⁰ Say unto the righteous that it shall be well with him, for they shall eat of the fruit of their doings.

⁷ to those who persevered in well doing, glory and honour and incorruption, to those who seek eternal life; ⁸ but unto those that are contentious and do not obey the truth, but are persuaded by unrighteousness, indignation and wrath.

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ that each one may receive according to that which they have done in the body, good or evil.

⁷ Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

¹³ For judgment without mercy shall be done unto the one that has shown no mercy; and mercy boasts against judgment.

¹¹ Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods; for in the thing in which they dealt proudly he prevailed against them.

²³ And if ye will not be corrected by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me, ²⁴ then will I also walk contrary unto you and will punish you yet seven times for your sins. ²⁵ And I will bring an avenging sword upon you, in vindication of the covenant; and ye shall gather together within your cities; but I will send pestilence among you, and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. ²⁶ When I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight, and ye shall eat and not be satisfied. ²⁷ And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me but walk contrary unto me, ²⁸ then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury, and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

⁵⁸ if thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book that thou may fear this glorious and fearful name; I AM thy God. ⁵⁹ Then the LORD will augment thy plagues wonderfully, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues and of long continuance, and evil sicknesses and of long continuance. ⁶⁰ Moreover, he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of, and they shall cleave unto thee. ⁶¹ Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, the LORD will bring upon thee until thou art destroyed.

²⁶ with the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the perverse thou wilt show thyself adversary.

⁹ Woe unto him that strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashions it, What doth thou make; thy work has no form?

⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

⁷ ¶ And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; ⁸ and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land unto a good and broad land, unto a land flowing with milk and honey, unto the places of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

¹⁴ For otherwise this time I will send all my plagues upon thine heart and upon thy slaves and upon thy people that thou may know that there is none like me in all the earth. ¹⁵ For now I will stretch out my hand that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence, and thou shalt be cut off from the earth. ¹⁶ For in truth I have placed thee to declare my power in thee, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. ¹⁷ Thou even so dost exalt thyself against my people that thou wilt not let them go.

³ Then Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh and said unto him, Thus hath the LORD God of the Hebrews said, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? Let my people go that they may serve me.

¹¹ Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath; and behold every one that is proud and bring him down. ¹² Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

⁵ For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now I will arise, saith the LORD; I will set in safety the one whom the wicked one has ensnared.

¹² For he shall deliver the destitute when he cries and the poor that has no helper. ¹³ He shall have mercy on the poor and destitute and shall save the souls of the poor in spirit.

⁶ ¶ For the LORD, who is high and lifted up, looks upon the humble, but the proud he does not know.

¹² I know that the LORD will effect the judgment of the poor and the judgment of the destitute.

⁴ ¶ A high look and a proud heart, which is the fire of the wicked, is sin.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. ¹² For the day of the LORD of the hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

¹⁷ And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low; and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

¹⁵ And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:

²³ Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

²⁸ I have understood thy state, thy going out and thy coming in, and thy rage against me. ²⁹ Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou didst come.

¹ ¶ The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to preach good tidings unto those who are cast down; to bind up the wounds of the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those that are bound; ² to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favour, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; ³ to order in Zion those that mourn, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the Angel of his face saved them: with his love and with his clemency he redeemed them; and he bore them and carried them all the days of the age.

³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and build up and glorify the King of heaven because all his works are truth, and his ways judgment: and he is able to humble those that walk with arrogance.

³ ¶ Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble. ⁷ Submit yourselves, therefore, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

⁵ ¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. ⁶ Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,

¹⁷ But Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, helped David, and smote the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore unto him, saying, From now on thou shalt not go out with us to battle that thou not quench the light of Israel.

³ when his lamp shone upon my head, and by its light I walked in the darkness;

⁶ ¶ There are many that say, Who will show us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

²⁸ For thou wilt light my fire: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous and gladness for the upright in heart.

⁴ Zain A light has shined in the darkness upon the upright: Cheth Gracious and merciful and righteous.

¹⁹ The sun shall no longer be thy light by day; nor shall the moon give light unto thee for brightness; but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light and thy God thy glory. ²⁰ Thy sun shall set no more; neither shall thy moon wane: for the LORD shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD because I have sinned against him, until he has judged my cause and executed my judgment; he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

² But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness be born, and in his wings he shall bring saving health; and ye shall go forth and jump like calves of the herd.

¹² ¶ Then Jesus spoke again unto them, saying, I AM the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.

⁴⁶ I am come as a light into the world that whosoever believes in me should not abide in darkness.

²³ And the city had no need of the sun neither of the moon to shine in her, for the clarity of God has illuminated it, and the Lamb is its lamp.

²⁹ ¶ For with thee I have scattered armies; and in my God I have overcome walled defenses.

¹⁰ All the nations compassed me about; but in the name of the LORD I will cut them off. ¹¹ They compassed me about; yea, they laid hold of me; but in the name of the LORD I will cut them off. ¹² They compassed me about like bees; they were quenched as the fire of thorns; for in the name of the LORD I will cut them off.

³⁷ Nevertheless, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

¹³ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

³ God is my Strong One; in him will I trust: he is my shield and the horn of my saving health; my defence and my refuge; my saviour, who shall save me from violence.

⁷ ¶ I will declare the decree; the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day I have begotten thee.

⁶ The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

³⁰ As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is precise: a shield to all those that wait in him.

² Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up in my help.

⁴ He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings thou shalt be secure: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

¹⁴⁰ ¶ Thy word is very pure; therefore thy slave loves it.

⁴⁸ Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father who is in the heavens is perfect.

³ And they sing the song of Moses, the slave of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

³¹ For their strong one is not as our strong One, and even our enemies are judges of this.

³⁹ ¶ See now that I, I am he, and there are no gods with me; I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal; and there is not one that can deliver out of my hand.

² ¶ And he said, The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. ³ God is my Strong One; in him will I trust: he is my shield and the horn of my saving health; my defence and my refuge; my saviour, who shall save me from violence.

⁶ Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel and his redeemer, the LORD of the hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

⁸ Do not fear, neither be afraid; have I not caused thee to hear from of old and declared unto thee beforehand that which was to come? Then ye are my witnesses that there is no God but me, and there is no Strong One that I do not know.

⁵ ¶ I am the LORD, and there is no one else; there is no God beside me; I shall gird thee, though thou hast not known me ⁶ that it may be known from the rising of the sun and from where it goes down that there is no one beside me. I am the LORD, and there is no one else.

⁶ Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might. ⁷ Who would not fear thee, O King of the Gentiles? for unto thee does it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the Gentiles and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.

¹⁶ The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the Former of all things, and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of the hosts is his name.

² The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my saving health; he is my God, and I will prepare him a habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

¹³ Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.

² ¶ And he said, The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. ³ Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that thou art justified? Or is it gain to him that thou makest thy ways perfect?

³² It is God that girds me with strength and makes my way perfect.

⁷ The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices; and with my song I will praise him. ⁸ The LORD is the strength of his people, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.

³ For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake thou shalt lead me and guide me. ⁴ Thou shalt pull me out of the net that they have laid in secret for me; for thou art my strength.

² When thou shalt come unto me, I will walk in the way of perfection and understand. I will walk in the midst of my house in the perfection of my heart.

⁶ My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; he that walks in the way of perfection, he shall serve me.

¹⁰ ¶ Do not fear for I am with thee; do not be dismayed, for I am thy God, who strengthens thee; I will help thee always; I will always uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

¹² And I will strengthen them in the LORD; and they shall walk up and down in his name, saith the LORD.

⁹ And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather glory in my weaknesses that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

¹⁰ ¶ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.

²¹ make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for the ages of the ages. Amen.

¹³ He made him ride on the high places of the earth that he might eat the fruits of the field; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock and oil out of the strong flint,

²⁵ Thy locks shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.

¹⁸ ¶ And the three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab and Abishai and Asahel, and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.

¹⁶ he shall dwell upon the high places: fortresses of rocks shall be his place of refuge: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

¹⁴ Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth and cause thee to eat of the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.

¹⁹ The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and upon my high places he will cause me to walk victorious in my instruments of music.

³³ He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and sets me upon my high places. ³⁴ He trains my hands for the battle, so that a bow of bronze shall be broken by my arms.

⁹ He makes wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and cuts the spear in sunder; he burns the chariot in the fire.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ Blessed be the LORD my strength, who trains my hands for the battle and my fingers for the war:

³ and I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.

⁹ And those that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth and shall set on fire and burn weapons, and shields and bucklers, bows and arrows, and handstaves, and spears, and they shall burn them in the fire for seven years: ¹⁰ so that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons in the fire; and they shall spoil those that spoiled them and rob those that robbed them, said the Lord GOD.

² and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.

¹⁷ that in blessing I will bless thee and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gates of his enemies;

³⁵ In the same manner thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand will hold me up, and thy meekness shall multiply me.

¹⁴ The LORD shall increase his blessing upon you more and more, upon you and your sons.

¹⁶ above all, taking the shield of faith, with which ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

⁹ He keeps the feet of his saints, and the wicked perish in darkness, for no man shall prevail by their own strength.

A Psalm of David. ¶ Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness; thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

⁵ Sustain my steps in thy ways that my footsteps not slip.

³⁶ Thou shall enlarge my steps under me, and my knees shall not tremble.

¹⁸ When I said, My foot slips, thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.

³ He will not suffer thy foot to be moved; he that keeps thee will not slumber.

¹² When thou goest in these paths, thy steps shall not be hindered; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

¹⁸ The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. {Heb. of the giants} ¹⁹ Then David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? Wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up, for I without a doubt will deliver the Philistines into thy hand. ²⁰ And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there and said, The LORD has broken forth upon my enemies before me as the breach of waters. Therefore, he called the name of that place Baalperazim. ²¹ And they left their images there, and David and his men burned them. ²² And the Philistines came up yet again and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. ²³ And when David enquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up, but go around behind them and come upon them over against the mulberry trees, ²⁴ and when thou hearest thunder going through the tops of the mulberry trees, then thou shalt move, for then the LORD shall go out before thee to smite the host of the Philistines. ²⁵ And David did so as the LORD had commanded him and smote the Philistines from Geba unto Gazer.

¹ ¶ And after this it, came to pass that David smote the Philistines and subdued them, and David took Methegammah out of the hand of the Philistines. ² He also smote those of Moab and measured them with a line, causing them to lie down on the ground, and he measured them with two lines, with one to put to death and the other full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David’s slaves, bringing presents.

¹³ And David received fame when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt eighteen thousand men. ¹⁴ And he put garrisons in Edom; he put garrisons throughout all Edom, and all those of Edom became David’s slaves. And the LORD saved David wherever he went.

¹⁴ And when the sons of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they also fled before Abishai and entered into the city. So Joab returned from the sons of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.

⁸ Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies; thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee. ⁹ Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger; the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

³⁷ I shall pursue my enemies and overtake them: neither shall I turn again until they are consumed.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

⁵ ¶ The Lord at thy right hand shall smite the kings in the day of his wrath. ⁶ He shall judge among the Gentiles; he shall fill their places with dead bodies; he shall wound the head over much of the earth.

¹ ¶ For, behold, the day comes that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, and all that do wickedly shall be stubble; and the day that comes shall burn them up, said the LORD of the hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

³ And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I make, said the LORD of the hosts.

⁴⁹ And David put his hand in his bag and took a stone from there and slang it and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone remained sunk into his forehead, and he fell upon his face to the earth. ⁵⁰ So David overcame the Philistine with a sling and with a stone and smote the Philistine and slew him, but there was no sword in the hand of David. ⁵¹ Therefore David ran and stood upon the Philistine and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and slew him and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw their giant was dead, they fled.

⁵ So David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines and brought away their livestock and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

³⁹ For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued my enemies under me.

⁵ Through thee will we push down our enemies; through thy name will we tread under those that rise up against us.

⁵ ¶ I am the LORD, and there is no one else; there is no God beside me; I shall gird thee, though thou hast not known me

¹⁴ The sons also of those that afflicted thee shall come humbled unto thee; and at the steps of thy feet all those that despised thee shall bow themselves down; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

¹¹ strengthened with all might, according to the power of his glory unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness,

⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open its seals, for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us unto God by thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation

⁸ ¶ Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise; thy hand shall be on the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s sons shall bow down before thee.

²⁷ I will send my fear before thee and will trouble all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.

²⁴ And when they had brought those kings out unto Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel and said unto the captains of the men of war who went with him, Come near; put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near and put their feet upon the necks of them.

⁴⁰ Thou hast also given me the necks of my enemies that I might destroy those that hate me. ⁴¹ They cried out, but there was no one to save them: even unto the LORD, but he did not answer them.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him and sent an embassy after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

²⁷ Moreover, those enemies of mine, who were unwilling that I should reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.

⁸ with flaming fire, to take vengeance on those that do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, ⁹ who shall be punished with eternal destruction by the presence of the Lord and by the glory of his power,

⁶ And Saul enquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him by dreams nor by Urim nor by prophets.

⁹ Will God hear his cry when the tribulation comes upon him?

²⁸ Then they shall call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

¹⁵ And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; likewise, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear; your hands are full of blood.

³ Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel and say unto them, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Are ye come to enquire of me? As I live, said the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you.

⁴ Then they shall cry unto the LORD, but he will not respond to them: he will even hide his face from them at that time because of their evil doings.

²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? ²³ And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

²⁵ When once the husband of the house is risen up and shall have shut the door, and ye begin to stand without and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not from where ye are, ²⁶ then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

²⁶ ¶ I said I would shatter them in pieces: I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men,

⁷ Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen and ten chariots and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like dust to be tread upon.

⁴² Then I beat them as small as the dust before the wind: I scattered them as the dirt in the streets.

⁵ Let them be as chaff before the wind, and let the angel of the LORD chase them.

⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and upon the people of my wrath will I send him to take spoil and to take prey and to ready them that they might be tread down like the mire of the streets.

¹⁵ Thou hast added the Gentiles, O LORD, thou hast added the Gentiles: thou hast made thyself glorious: thou hast extended thyself unto all the ends of the earth.

³⁵ Then was the iron, the baked clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold broken to pieces together and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away that no place was found for them again; and the stone that smote the image was made into a great mountain that filled the whole earth.

¹⁰ Then she that is my enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her who said unto me, Where is the LORD thy God? my eyes shall behold her: now she shall be trodden down as the mire of the streets.

⁶ ¶ Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD, for I have spread you abroad by the four winds of the heavens, saith the LORD.

⁵ ¶ And they shall be as mighty men, who tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle; and they shall fight because the LORD shall be with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.

²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword and shall be led away captive into all nations, and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

¹³ And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail, and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath, when thou shalt hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to keep them and to fulfill them.

¹ ¶ Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David, but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.

¹ ¶ Then all the tribes of Israel came unto David in Hebron and spoke, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

And so the Moabites became David’s slaves, bringing presents. ³ David smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to extend his border to the river Euphrates. ⁴ And David took from him a thousand seven hundred horsemen and twenty thousand footmen, and David hamstrung all the chariot horses but reserved of them for one hundred chariots. ⁵ And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians twenty-two thousand men. ⁶ Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus, and the Syrians became slaves to David, bringing presents. And the LORD saved David wherever he went. ⁷ And David took the shields of gold that were on the slaves of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. ⁸ Likewise from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took a great quantity of brass. ⁹ ¶ When Toi, king of Hamath, heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer, ¹⁰ then Toi sent Joram, his son, unto King David, to greet him peacefully and to bless him because he had fought against Hadadezer and smitten him, for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And Joram brought vessels of silver and vessels of gold and vessels of brass in his hand, ¹¹ which King David dedicated unto the LORD with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all Gentiles which he subdued ¹² of the Syrians and of the Moabites and of the sons of Ammon and of the Philistines and of Amalekites and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

⁶ So the people went out into the field against Israel, and the battle was in the forest of Ephraim, ⁷ where the people of Israel were slain before the slaves of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men. ⁸ For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the land, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

⁹ ¶ And all the people were in contention throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines, and now he has fled out of the land for Absalom.

¹⁴ And he inclined the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man, so that they sent this word unto the king, Return thou and all thy slaves.

¹ ¶ And a man of Belial happened to be there, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a man of Jemini, and he blew the shofar, saying, We have no part in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, O Israel. ² So all the men of Israel went up from after David and followed Sheba, the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah cleaved unto their king from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.

²² Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba, the son of Bichri, and cast it out to Joab. And he blew the shofar, and they retired from the city, each one to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.

¹ ¶ Why do the Gentiles rage, and the peoples imagine a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his anointed, saying, ³ let us break their bands asunder and cast away their cords from us. ⁴ He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. ⁵ Then he shall speak unto them in his wrath and trouble them in his sore displeasure. ⁶ Yet I have set my king upon Zion, the mountain of my holiness.

⁸ Ask of me, and I shall give thee the Gentiles for thine inheritance and unto the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

⁴³ Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the Gentiles: a people whom I did not know served me.

⁸ Moab is my washpot; over Edom I will cast out my shoe; Philistia, triumph thou because of me. ⁹ Who will bring me into the strong city? Who will lead me into Edom?

⁸ He shall have dominion also from sea to sea and from the river unto the ends of the earth. ⁹ Those that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him, and his enemies shall lick the dust.

⁶ He shall judge among the Gentiles; he shall fill their places with dead bodies; he shall wound the head over much of the earth.

⁵ Behold, thou shalt call a people that thou knowest not, and Gentiles that did not know thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God and for the Holy One of Israel, for he has honoured thee.

¹² For the people or the kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish and shall be utterly wasted.

¹ ¶ I was sought of those that did not ask for me; I was found of those that did not seek me; I said, Here I am, Here I am, unto a people that did not invoke my name.

¹⁴ And he gave him dominion and glory and kingdom; and all the peoples, nations, and tongues served him: his dominion is an eternal dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom such that it shall never be corrupted.

²³ And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon Loruhamah, {her that had not obtained mercy}, and I will say to Loammi, {those who were not my people}, Thou art my people; and he shall say, Thou art my God.

²⁵ who (in the Holy Spirit) by the mouth of thy servant David (our father) hast said, Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples imagine vain things? ²⁶ The kings of the earth were present, and the princes were gathered together against the Lord and against his Christ. ²⁷ For of a truth against thy holy servant Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together (in this city), ²⁸ to do that which thy hand and thy counsel had determined beforehand must be done.

³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew, hanging him on a tree. ³¹ God has exalted him with his right hand as Prince and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

²⁵ ¶ As he saith also in Hosea, I will call them my people, who were not my people, and her beloved, who was not beloved.

¹² And again, Isaiah says, There shall be a root of Jesse and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him the Gentiles shall wait for salvation.

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded the trumpet, and there were great voices in the heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are reduced unto our Lord and to his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

⁴⁴ As soon as they heard of me, they obeyed me: the sons of strangers submitted themselves unto me even against their will. ⁴⁵ The strangers fell away and were afraid in their close places.

³ Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! Through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.

¹⁵ The haters of the LORD would have submitted themselves unto him, and their time would endure for ever.

³ ¶ Neither let the son of the stranger that has joined himself to the LORD speak, saying, The LORD shall utterly separate me from his people: nor let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.

⁶ Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and that love the name of the LORD, to be his slaves, every one that keeps from polluting the sabbath, and takes hold of my covenant;

¹³ Then Simon himself believed also; and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were being done.

²¹ Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter, for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. ²² Repent therefore of this thy wickedness and pray God, if perhaps this thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. ²³ For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness and in the prison of iniquity.

¹⁹ And they shall go into the holes of the rocks and into the caves of the earth, because of the terrible presence of the LORD and because of the glory of his majesty when he shall arise to smite the earth.

²¹ to go into the clefts of the rocks and into the caverns of the cliffs from before the fearful presence of the LORD and from the glory of his majesty, when he shall arise to smite the earth.

⁶ ¶ But we were all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses as filthy rags; and we all fell as the leaves of a tree; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

³ and though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out of there; and though they hide from my sight in the bottom of the sea, from there will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

¹⁷ They shall lick the dust like a serpent; as the serpents of the earth, they shall tremble in their holes; they shall be filled with fear of the LORD our God and shall also fear thee.

¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withers the grass, and its flower falls, and the beautiful appearance of it perishes: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

³⁹ ¶ See now that I, I am he, and there are no gods with me; I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal; and there is not one that can deliver out of my hand. ⁴⁰ When I shall lift up my hand to the heavens and shall say, I live for ever,

²⁵ For I know that my redeemer lives and that he shall rise at the latter day over the dust;

²⁶ He shall call me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my saving health.

³⁰ And it shall come to pass when the LORD shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning thee and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel,

³⁹ And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the LORD that judged the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal and has kept his slave from evil, for the LORD has returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent word unto Abigail to take her to him to wife.

¹⁹ ¶ Then Ahimaaz, the son of Zadok, said, Let me now run and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD has vindicated him of his enemies.

³¹ And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tidings, my lord the king, for the LORD has vindicated thee today of all those that rose up against thee.

¹ ¶ O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongs; O God, to whom vengeance belongs, show thyself.

²⁵ For he must reign until he has put all enemies under his feet.

⁷ From his branches he shall distil waters, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.

¹⁷ I shall see him, but not now; I shall behold him, but not near by; there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel and shall smite the corners of Moab and destroy all the sons of Seth. ¹⁸ And Edom shall be taken; Seir also shall be taken by his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly. ¹⁹ Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion and shall destroy what remains of the city.

⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust and lifts up the beggar from the dunghill to set them among princes and to make them inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and he has set the world upon them.

¹² And David understood that the LORD had confirmed him as king over Israel and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.

⁸ Now, therefore, so shalt thou say unto my slave David, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people, over Israel; ⁹ and I have been with thee wherever thou didst walk and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.

⁴⁸ He delivers me from my enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the one who would betray me.

A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech. ¶ Why dost thou boast of evil, O strong man? The mercy of God is day by day.

⁴⁹ Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the Gentiles and sing praises unto thy name.

¹ David’s Psalm of praise. ¶ Aleph I will extol thee, my God, my king, and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. ² Beth Each day will I bless thee, and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

¹ ¶ Halelu-JAH. Praise the LORD, O my soul. ² In my life I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises unto my God while I live.

⁹ but that the Gentiles glorify God by mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess thee among the Gentiles and sing unto thy name.

¹² And when thy days are fulfilled and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. ¹³ He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

⁵⁰ He gives great deliverance to his king and shows mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.

A Psalm of David. ¶ The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy saving health how greatly shall he rejoice!

³ God is known in her palaces for a refuge.

²⁰ I have found David my slave; I anointed him with the oil of my holiness,

²⁴ But my truth and my mercy shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted.

²⁹ I will also make his seed to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of the heavens.

³⁶ His seed shall endure for ever and his throne as the sun before me.

¹⁰ Thou, he who gives salvation unto kings, who redeems David his slave from the evil sword.

⁹ but they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

³¹ And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb and bring forth a son and shalt call his name Jesus. ³² He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Highest, and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David; ³³ and he shall reign in the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
