¹ ¶ Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan; and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei. ² And the LORD said unto me, Fear him not, for I have delivered him and all his people and his land into thy hand, and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst unto Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon. ³ So the LORD our God delivered into our hand Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people, and we smote him until none was left to him remaining. ⁴ And we took all his cities at that time there was not a city which we did not take from them, sixty cities, all the region of Argob, of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. ⁵ All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars besides a great many unwalled towns. ⁶ And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon, king of Heshbon, utterly destroying every city, men, women, and children. ⁷ But all the beasts and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves. ⁸ And we also took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side of the Jordan, from the river of Arnon unto Mount Hermon ⁹ (which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion and the Amorites call it Shenir) and ¹⁰ all the cities of the plain and all Gilead and all Bashan unto Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. ¹¹ For only Og, king of Bashan, had remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the sons of Ammon? Nine cubits was the length thereof and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man. ¹² ¶ And this land, which we inherited at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half of Mount Gilead and the cities thereof, I gave unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites. ¹³ And the rest of Gilead and all Bashan (fertile ground), being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh: all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants. ¹⁴ Jair, the son of Manasseh, took all the country of Argob unto the border of Geshuri and Maachathi and called them after his own name, Bashanhavothjair, unto this day. ¹⁵ And I gave Gilead unto Machir. ¹⁶ And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon, half the valley for a border even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the sons of Ammon, ¹⁷ the plain also and the Jordan and the border thereof from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdothpisgah eastward. ¹⁸ And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God has given you this land to possess it; ye shall pass armed before your brethren, the sons of Israel, all that are valiant. ¹⁹ Only your wives and your little ones and your livestock (for I know that ye have much livestock) shall abide in your cities which I have given you ²⁰ until the LORD has given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and until they also inherit the land which the LORD your God has given them beyond the Jordan; then shall ye return each man unto his possession, which I have given you. ²¹ ¶ And I also commanded Joshua at that time, saying, Thine eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done unto these two kings, so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms where thou passest. ²² Ye shall not fear them, for the LORD your God, he shall fight for you. ²³ And I besought the LORD at that time, saying, ²⁴ O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to show thy slave thy greatness and thy mighty hand; for what God is there in heaven or in earth that can do according to thy works and according to thy mighty acts? ²⁵ I pray thee, let me go over and see that good land that is beyond the Jordan, that goodly mountain and Lebanon. ²⁶ But the LORD was angry with me for your sakes and would not hear me, and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter. ²⁷ Climb up into the top of Pisgah and lift up thine eyes westward and towards the Aquilon and towards the Negev and eastward and behold it with thine eyes, for thou shalt not go over this Jordan. ²⁸ But charge Joshua and encourage him and comfort him, for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see. ²⁹ So we abode in the valley over against Bethpeor.

³³ And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan; and Og, the king of Bashan, went out against them, he and all his people, to the battle at Edrei. ³⁴ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not, for I have delivered him into thy hand and all his people and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon. ³⁵ So they smote him and his sons and all his people until there was none left him alive; and they possessed his land.

⁴ after he had slain Sihon, the king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and Og, the king of Bashan, who dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei;

⁴⁷ and they possessed his land and the land of Og, king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, who were on this side of the Jordan toward the sunrising.

⁷ And when ye came unto this place, Sihon, the king of Heshbon, and Og, the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them;

⁴ And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them whom he destroyed.

¹⁰ and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side of the Jordan, and to Sihon, king of Heshbon, and to Og, king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.

⁴ And the borders of Og, king of Bashan, who was of the remnant of the Rephaim, that dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei,

³⁰ Their border was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities.

¹⁹ Geber, the son of Uri, was in the land of Gilead, in the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, and of Og, king of Bashan; and in addition to these there was an officer over all the land.

²² Thou didst give them kingdoms and peoples and didst divide them into corners; so they possessed the land of Sihon and the land of the king of Heshbon and the land of Og, king of Bashan.

¹⁰ He who smote many Gentiles and slew mighty kings, ¹¹ Sihon king of the Amorites and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan

²⁰ And Og the king of Bashan: for his mercy endures for ever:

⁹ Therefore, do not be rebels against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land, for they are our bread; their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us; do not fear them.

²³ But Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border; instead Sihon gathered all his people together and went out against Israel into the wilderness; and he came to Jahaz and fought against Israel. ²⁴ And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the sons of Ammon, for the border of the sons of Ammon was strong. ²⁵ And Israel took all these cities; and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites in Heshbon and in all the villages thereof.

³⁴ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not, for I have delivered him into thy hand and all his people and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.

²⁴ ¶ Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass the river Arnon; behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon, the Amorite king of Heshbon, and his land; begin, take possession and contend with him in battle. ²⁵ This day I will begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the peoples that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear the report of thee, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of thee. ²⁶ And I sent ambassadors out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon, king of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying, ²⁷ Let me pass through thy land; I will go along by the high way; I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left. ²⁸ Thou shalt sell me food for money, that I may eat, and give me water for money, that I may drink; I will only pass through on my feet ²⁹ (as the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites, who dwell in Ar, did unto me) until I shall pass the Jordan into the land which the LORD our God gives us. ³⁰ But Sihon, king of Heshbon, would not let us pass by him, for the LORD thy God had hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate that he might deliver him into thy hand as until this day. ³¹ And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee; begin, take possession that thou may inherit his land. ³² Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz. ³³ But the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him and his sons and all his people. ³⁴ And we took all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed all the cities, the men and the women and the little ones; we left none to remain. ³⁵ We took only the beasts for a prey unto ourselves and the spoil of the cities which we took. ³⁶ From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river even unto Gilead, there was not one city escaped us; the LORD our God delivered all of them before us. ³⁷ Only unto the land of the sons of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto any place that the LORD our God forbade us.

³ and shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies; let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them,

¹⁷ Ye shall not need to fight in this battle; set yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you. O Judah and Jerusalem; fear not, neither be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD shall be with you.

¹⁰ ¶ Do not fear for I am with thee; do not be dismayed, for I am thy God, who strengthens thee; I will help thee always; I will always uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

⁵ Do not fear; for I am with thee: I will bring thy generation from the east and gather thee from the west;

⁹ Then the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent,

²⁴ saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar; and, behold, God has given thee all those that sail with thee.

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer; behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days; be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.

³⁵ So they smote him and his sons and all his people until there was none left him alive; and they possessed his land.

³³ But the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him and his sons and all his people. ³⁴ And we took all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed all the cities, the men and the women and the little ones; we left none to remain.

¹² all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the Rephaim, for these did Moses smite and cast them out of the land.

³³ Thus Moses gave unto the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and unto half the tribe of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with its cities and borders, even the cities of the country round about. ³⁴ And the sons of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer ³⁵ and Atroth-shophan and Jaazer and Jogbehah ³⁶ and Bethnimrah and Bethharan, fenced cities, and also folds for sheep. ³⁷ And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon and Elealeh and Kirjathaim ³⁸ and Nebo and Baalmeon (their names being changed) and Shibmah and gave other names unto the cities which they built. ³⁹ And the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, went to Gilead and took it and dispossessed the Amorite who was in it. ⁴⁰ And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir, the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein. ⁴¹ Jair, the son of Manasseh also went and took the small towns thereof and called them Havothjair. ⁴² Likewise Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages and called it Nobah, after his own name.

³⁰ Their border was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities. ³¹ And half of Gilead and Ashtaroth and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were given to the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, even to one half of the sons of Machir, according to their families.

¹³ the son of Geber, in Ramothgilead; to him pertained the towns of Jair, the son of Manasseh, which were in Gilead; to him also pertained the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, sixty great cities with walls and brasen bars;

²⁸ Nevertheless the people are strong that dwell in that land, and the cities are very great and strong; and moreover we saw the sons of Anak there.

²⁸ Where shall we go up? Our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, This people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.

³⁰ By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were compassed about seven days.

²⁸ But no anathema, that anyone shall devote unto the LORD of all that they have of men and animals and of the fields of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed. All anathema is most holy unto the LORD. ²⁹ Any anathema of men which is devoted shall not be ransomed, but shall surely be put to death.

² Then Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.

²⁴ ¶ Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass the river Arnon; behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon, the Amorite king of Heshbon, and his land; begin, take possession and contend with him in battle.

³⁴ And we took all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed all the cities, the men and the women and the little ones; we left none to remain.

¹⁶ Only of the cities of these peoples, which the LORD thy God gives thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breathes; ¹⁷ but thou shalt utterly destroy them: the Hittite and the Amorite, the Canaanite and the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, as the LORD thy God has commanded thee, ¹⁸ that they not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they do unto their gods, lest ye should sin against the LORD your God.

¹⁴ And all the spoil of these cities and the beasts, the sons of Israel took for themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, without leaving any that breathed.

³⁵ We took only the beasts for a prey unto ourselves and the spoil of the cities which we took.

²⁷ But the Israelites took the beasts and the spoil of the city for themselves, according unto the word of the LORD which he had commanded Joshua.

¹¹ And they smote all the souls that were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was not any left to breathe; and he burnt Hazor with fire. ¹² Likewise, Joshua took all the cities of those kings and all their kings and smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them as Moses the slave of the LORD had commanded him. ¹³ But of all the cities that stood on their hills, Israel burned none of them, excepting Hazor only, which Joshua burned. ¹⁴ And all the spoil of these cities and the beasts, the sons of Israel took for themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, without leaving any that breathed.

² Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the midst of the river and from half of Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the sons of Ammon, ³ and from the plain to the sea of Chinneroth on the east and unto the sea of the plain, the salt sea on the east, by the way to Bethjeshimoth, and from the Negev, under Ashdothpisgah. ⁴ And the borders of Og, king of Bashan, who was of the remnant of the Rephaim, that dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, ⁵ and reigned in Mount Hermon and in Salcah and in all Bashan unto the borders of the Geshur and Maachath and half of Gilead, the border of Sihon, king of Heshbon. ⁶ These did Moses, the slave of the LORD, and the sons of Israel smite; and Moses, the slave of the LORD, gave that land in possession unto the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh.

⁹ from Aroer, that is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon; ¹⁰ and all the cities of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, unto the borders of the sons of Ammon; ¹¹ and Gilead and the borders of the Geshur and Maachath and all Mount Hermon and all Bashan unto Salcah; ¹² all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the Rephaim, for these did Moses smite and cast them out of the land.

⁴⁸ From Aroer, which is by the bank of the river Arnon, even unto Mount Sion, which is Hermon, ⁴⁹ and all the plain on this side of the Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.

¹⁷ Even from Mount Halak that goes up unto Seir unto Baalgad in the plains of Lebanon at the roots of Mount Hermon; likewise he took all their kings and smote them and slew them.

²³ And the sons of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land; they increased from Bashan unto Baalhermon and Senir and unto Mount Hermon.

⁶ And He made them skip like a calves; Lebanon and Sirion like the sons of the unicorns.

¹² Thou hast created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon shall sing in thy name.

³ as the dew of Hermon, that descends upon the mountains of Zion; for there the LORD commands blessing and eternal life.

⁸ ¶ With me from Lebanon, my spouse, thou shalt come with me from Lebanon; thou shalt look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.

⁵ They have made all thy ship boards of fir trees of Senir; they have taken cedars from Lebanon to make masts for thee.

³³ And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan; and Og, the king of Bashan, went out against them, he and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.

⁴⁹ and all the plain on this side of the Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.

⁴ And the borders of Og, king of Bashan, who was of the remnant of the Rephaim, that dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, ⁵ and reigned in Mount Hermon and in Salcah and in all Bashan unto the borders of the Geshur and Maachath and half of Gilead, the border of Sihon, king of Heshbon.

³¹ And half of Gilead and Ashtaroth and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were given to the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, even to one half of the sons of Machir, according to their families.

⁵ And in the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him came and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim and the Zuzims in Ham and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim

¹¹ which also were accounted giants as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims.

²⁰ (That also was accounted a land of giants; giants dwelt therein in another time, and the Ammonites called them Zamzummims,

⁴ And a man named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span, came out of the camp of the Philistines and stood between the two camps.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab and his slaves with him and all Israel, and they destroyed the sons of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

²⁶ ¶ And Joab fought against Rabbah, of the sons of Ammon, and took the royal city.

² Therefore, behold, the days come, said the LORD, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites; and it shall be made a desolate heap, and her cities shall be burned with fire; then shall Israel be heir unto those that were his heirs, said the LORD.

²⁰ Show the way that the sword will come to Rabbath of the Ammonites and to Judah against Jerusalem, the defenced.

¹⁴ but I will kindle fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof as with shouting in the day of battle, as with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;

⁹ ¶ Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as an oak; yet I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath.

⁸ for the other half received their inheritance with the Reubenites and the Gadites, which Moses gave them of the other side of the Jordan eastward, according as Moses the slave of the LORD gave them; ⁹ from Aroer, that is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon; ¹⁰ and all the cities of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, unto the borders of the sons of Ammon; ¹¹ and Gilead and the borders of the Geshur and Maachath and all Mount Hermon and all Bashan unto Salcah; ¹² all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the Rephaim, for these did Moses smite and cast them out of the land. ¹³ Nevertheless, the sons of Israel did not expel those of Geshur and Maachath, but Geshur {Heb. the proud beholder} and Maachath {Heb. the oppressor} dwell among the Israelites until this day. ¹⁴ But unto the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the sacrifices on fire of the LORD God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said unto them. ¹⁵ And Moses gave unto the tribe of the sons of Reuben according to their families, ¹⁶ and their border was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river and all the plain until Medeba, ¹⁷ Heshbon and all her cities that are in the plain, Dibon, and Bamothbaal and Bethbaalmeon, ¹⁸ and Jahazah and Kedemoth and Mephaath, ¹⁹ and Kirjathaim and Sibmah and Zarethshahar in the mount of the valley, {Emec} ²⁰ and Bethpeor and Ashdothpisgah and Bethjeshimoth, ²¹ and all the cities of the plain and all the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur and Hur and Reba, who were princes of Sihon, dwelling in the country. ²² Balaam also, the son of Beor, the diviner, did the sons of Israel slay with the sword among those that were slain by them. ²³ And the border of the sons of Reuben was the Jordan and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the sons of Reuben according to their families, these cities with their villages. ²⁴ Moses likewise gave unto the tribe of Gad, to the sons of Gad according to their families. ²⁵ And their border was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead and half of the land of the sons of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah, ²⁶ and from Heshbon unto Ramathmizpeh, and Betonim, and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir, ²⁷ and the valley of Betharam and Bethnimrah and Succoth and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon, king of Heshbon, the Jordan and its border, even unto the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side of the Jordan eastward. ²⁸ This is the inheritance of the sons of Gad according to their families, these cities with their villages.

³³ from the Jordan toward the rising of the sun, all the land of Gilead, of Gad, of Reuben, and of Manasses, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, to Gilead and to Bashan.

²⁹ And Moses also gave unto the half tribe of Manasseh, and it belonged to the half tribe of the sons of Manasseh according to their families. ³⁰ Their border was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities. ³¹ And half of Gilead and Ashtaroth and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were given to the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, even to one half of the sons of Machir, according to their families. ³² This is what Moses distributed in inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side of the Jordan of Jericho, eastward.

²³ And the sons of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land; they increased from Bashan unto Baalhermon and Senir and unto Mount Hermon. ²⁴ And these were the heads of the houses of their fathers: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valour, famous men, and heads of the houses of their fathers. ²⁵ But they rebelled against the God of their fathers and fornicated after the gods of the people of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. ²⁶ And for this the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul, king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgathpilneser, king of Assyria, and he carried away the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh and brought them unto Halah and Habor and Hara and to the River Gozan, unto this day.

⁴¹ Jair, the son of Manasseh also went and took the small towns thereof and called them Havothjair.

¹³ Nevertheless, the sons of Israel did not expel those of Geshur and Maachath, but Geshur {Heb. the proud beholder} and Maachath {Heb. the oppressor} dwell among the Israelites until this day.

³ and his second, Chileab, of Abigail who had been the wife of Nabal of Carmel; and the third, Absalom, the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur;

⁶ ¶ And when the sons of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the sons of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Bethrehob and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ishtob twelve thousand men.

³⁷ But Absalom fled and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

²¹ And afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir, the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was sixty years old, and she gave birth to Segub unto him. ²² And Segub begat Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead. ²³ And Geshur and Aram took the cities of Jair from them, with Kenath and its towns, even sixty cities. All these were of the sons of Machir, the father of Gilead.

²³ And Joseph saw Ephraim’s sons unto the third generation; the sons also of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were brought up upon Joseph’s knees.

²⁹ The sons of Manasseh: of Machir, the family of the Machirites; and Machir begat Gilead; of Gilead comes the family of the Gileadites.

³⁹ And the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, went to Gilead and took it and dispossessed the Amorite who was in it. ⁴⁰ And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir, the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.

¹ ¶ There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the firstborn of Joseph. Machir, the firstborn of Manasseh and father of Gilead, who was a man of war, had Gilead and Bashan. ² There was also a lot for the rest of the sons of Manasseh by their families: for the sons of Abiezer and for the sons of Helek and for the sons of Asriel and for the sons of Shechem, and for the sons of Hepher and for the sons of Shemida: these were the male sons of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, by their families. ³ But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters, and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

⁷ Now to the one half of the tribe of Manasseh, Moses had given possession in Bashan; but unto the other half Joshua gave inheritance among their brethren on this side of the Jordan to the west. And Joshua also sent these to their tents, after having blessed them,

²² And he rose up that night and took his two wives and his two womenservants and his eleven sons and passed over the ford Jabbok.

²⁴ And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the sons of Ammon, for the border of the sons of Ammon was strong.

³⁷ Only unto the land of the sons of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto any place that the LORD our God forbade us.

² Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the midst of the river and from half of Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the sons of Ammon, ³ and from the plain to the sea of Chinneroth on the east and unto the sea of the plain, the salt sea on the east, by the way to Bethjeshimoth, and from the Negev, under Ashdothpisgah.

⁵ And passing the Jordan, they pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lies in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer.

¹⁰ ¶ And Lot lifted up his eyes and beheld all the plain of the Jordan that it was well watered everywhere, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as a garden of the LORD like the land of Egypt as thou comest unto Zoar.

³ All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.

²⁸ And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of that plain and beheld that the smoke of the land went up as the smoke of a furnace. ²⁹ And it came to pass as God destroyed the cities of the plain that God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the destruction when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.

¹⁴ And he brought him into the field of Zophim to the top of Pisgah and built seven altars and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

¹¹ and the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain, and the border shall descend and shall reach unto the side of the sea of Chinnereth eastward. ¹² And the border shall go down to the Jordan, and the goings out of it shall be at the salt sea; this shall be your land with the borders thereof round about.

¹⁶ that the waters which came down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far from the city of Adam, that is beside Zaretan; and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed and were cut off; and the people passed over right against Jericho.

³ and from the plain to the sea of Chinneroth on the east and unto the sea of the plain, the salt sea on the east, by the way to Bethjeshimoth, and from the Negev, under Ashdothpisgah.

²⁷ and the valley of Betharam and Bethnimrah and Succoth and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon, king of Heshbon, the Jordan and its border, even unto the edge of the sea of Chinnereth on the other side of the Jordan eastward.

² And their border on the side of the Negev was from the shore of the salt sea from the bay that looks toward the Negev;

⁵ And the east border is the salt sea, even unto the end of the Jordan. And the border in the north quarter, from the bay of the sea, from the end of the Jordan,

¹⁹ and this border turns to pass to the side of Bethhoglah northward, and the border comes out at the north bay of the salt sea at the end of the Jordan towards the Negev. This is the border towards the Negev.

²⁰ Then Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will prepare yourselves to go before the LORD to the war ²¹ and will all pass the Jordan armed before the LORD until he has driven out his enemies from before him ²² and the land is subdued before the LORD, then afterward ye shall return and be guiltless before the LORD and before Israel, and this land shall be your possession before the LORD. ²³ But if ye will not do so, behold, ye shall have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will catch up with you. ²⁴ Build cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth.

¹² Also to the Reubenites and to the Gadites and to half the tribe of Manasseh, Joshua spoke, saying, ¹³ Remember the word which Moses, the slave of the LORD, commanded you, saying, The LORD your God has given you rest and has given you this land. ¹⁴ Your wives, your little ones, and your beasts shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan; but ye, all the mighty men of valour, shall pass before your brethren armed and help them ¹⁵ until the LORD has given your brethren rest, as he has given you and they also inherit the land which the LORD your God gives them; then ye shall return unto the land of your inheritance and inherit it, which Moses the LORD’s slave has given you on this side of the Jordan toward the sunrising.

¹² And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh passed armed before the sons of Israel, as Moses had said unto them. ¹³ About forty thousand men prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, towards the plains of Jericho.

¹ ¶ Then Joshua called the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh ² and said unto them, Ye have kept all that Moses the slave of the LORD commanded you and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you. ³ Ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God. ⁴ And now the LORD your God has given rest unto your brethren, as he promised them; therefore now return and go to your tents and unto the land of your possessions which Moses the slave of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan. ⁵ Only that with diligence ye keep yourselves doing the commandment and the law, which Moses, the slave of the LORD, charged you: to love the LORD your God and to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments and to cleave unto him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁶ So Joshua, blessing them, sent them; and they went unto their tents. ⁷ Now to the one half of the tribe of Manasseh, Moses had given possession in Bashan; but unto the other half Joshua gave inheritance among their brethren on this side of the Jordan to the west. And Joshua also sent these to their tents, after having blessed them, ⁸ And he spoke unto them, saying, Return with great riches unto your tents and with a great amount of cattle with silver, with gold, with brass, with iron, and with very much clothing; divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren. ⁹ And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned, departing from the sons of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, of which they were the possessors, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

⁴ And now the LORD your God has given rest unto your brethren, as he promised them; therefore now return and go to your tents and unto the land of your possessions which Moses the slave of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan.

⁸ And he spoke unto them, saying, Return with great riches unto your tents and with a great amount of cattle with silver, with gold, with brass, with iron, and with very much clothing; divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.

¹⁸ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take Joshua, the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay thine hand upon him ¹⁹ and set him before Eleazar, the priest, and before all the congregation and give him a charge in their presence. ²⁰ And thou shalt put some of thy splendour upon him that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may hear him. ²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar, the priest, whom he shall consult in the judgment of the Urim before the LORD; at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation. ²² And Moses did as the LORD commanded him, and he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar, the priest, and before all the congregation, ²³ and he laid his hands upon him and gave him a charge, as the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses.

²⁵ And Joshua said unto them, Do not fear, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage; for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.

³⁶ Whether it was a lion or a bear thy slave would kill it, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he has dishonoured the armies of the living God. ³⁷ David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

¹⁰ And those that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, O LORD, hast not forsaken those that seek thee.

¹⁰ who delivered us from so great a death and does deliver; in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

¹⁰ Therefore I am content in weaknesses, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake, for when I am weak, then am I strong.

²⁰ Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

¹⁷ But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, that by me the preaching might be fully known and that all the Gentiles might hear, and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. ¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work and will save me for his heavenly kingdom, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁴ The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall be still.

³⁰ The LORD your God who goes before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did with you in Egypt before your eyes;

⁴ for the LORD your God is he that goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

⁴² All these kings and their lands Joshua took at one time because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

¹² And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O sons of Israel, do not fight against the LORD God of your fathers, for ye shall not prosper.

²⁹ And the fear of God came upon all the kingdoms of the land when they heard how the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel.

³ For they did not get the land in inheritance by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them, but thy right hand and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance because thy delight was in them.

¹ ¶ But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Do not fear, for I have redeemed thee, I have named thee; Thou art mine. ² When thou dost pass through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou dost walk through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

⁸ For this thing I besought the Lord three times that it might be taken from me. ⁹ And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather glory in my weaknesses that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

¹¹ Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, magnificent in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

² And know ye this day; for I speak not with your children who have not known and who have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm,

²² Therefore, thou art great, O LORD God, for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

³² Now, therefore, our God, the great, mighty, and terrible God, who keeps covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that has come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, on our priests, on our prophets, on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day.

¹⁰ All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, who delivers the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoils him?

¹⁹ and thy righteousness, O God, unto excellence because thou hast done great things; O God, who is like unto thee!

⁸ ¶ Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord, neither is there any other who does thy works.

⁶ For who in the heavens can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?

⁸ O LORD God of the hosts, who is like unto thee? Strong JAH, compassed about with thy truth.

² Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? Who can show forth all his praise?

³ Gimel Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.

⁶ Vau And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts, and I will declare thy greatness.

¹⁸ ¶ To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

²⁵ To whom then will ye liken me, or what shall ye compare me to? saith the Holy One.

⁶ Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.

¹⁸ that thou dost show mercy in thousands and recompense the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their sons after them, the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of the hosts, is his name, ¹⁹ great in counsel and magnificent in works: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men to give unto each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings; ²⁰ who hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and in the man, and hast made thee a name, as at this day; ²¹ and hast brought forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs and with wonders, and with a strong hand and with a stretched out arm and with great terror;

²⁹ Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, or language which speak blasphemy against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill because there is no other god that can deliver after this sort.

⁸ and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land unto a good and broad land, unto a land flowing with milk and honey, unto the places of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

⁵ Therefore, they said, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy slaves for a possession and do not make us pass the Jordan.

²¹ Furthermore, the LORD was angry with me for your sakes and swore that I should not go over Jordan and that I should not go in unto that good land, which the LORD thy God gives thee for an inheritance. ²² Therefore, I must die in this land and will not pass the Jordan, but ye shall pass and inherit that good land.

¹¹ The land, into which ye go to inherit it, is a land of mountains and valleys and drinks water of the rain of heaven, ¹² a land which the LORD thy God procures; the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.

⁶ in the day that I lifted up my hand unto them with an oath that I would bring them forth from the land of Egypt into a land that I had prepared for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the most beautiful of all lands, ⁷ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ⁸ Take the rod and gather the congregation together, thou and Aaron, thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, and it shall give forth its water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock; so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. ⁹ Then Moses took the rod from before the LORD as he commanded him. ¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? ¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. ¹² And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore, ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

¹² ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Climb up this Mount Abarim, and thou shalt see the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel. ¹³ And after thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother was gathered. ¹⁴ For ye were rebels to my word in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me in the waters before their eyes. These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.

³⁷ Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou shalt not go in there either.

² and he said unto them, I am one hundred and twenty years old today; I can no longer go out and come in; also the LORD has said unto me, Thou shalt not pass this Jordan.

⁵¹ because ye trespassed against me among the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, because ye did not sanctify me in the midst of the sons of Israel. ⁵² Yet thou shalt see the land before thee, but thou shalt not enter there to the land which I give the sons of Israel.

⁴ And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed. I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over there.

⁴ Go and tell David my slave, Thus hath the LORD said, Thou shalt not build me a house to dwell in,

¹² He shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne eternally. ¹³ I will be his father, and he shall be my son; and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee;

⁷ And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my heart to build a house unto the name of the LORD my God; ⁸ but the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly and hast made great wars; thou shalt not build a house unto my name because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight. ⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about, for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.

² Then David, the king, stood up upon his feet and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and for the footstool of our God and had made ready for the building. ³ But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build a house for my name because thou hast been a man of war and hast shed blood. ⁴ However, the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever, for he has chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel;

³² They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes: ³³ Because they provoked his spirit to rebel, and he spoke it with his lips.

⁵ But he was wounded for our rebellions; he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and by his stripes healing was provided for us. ⁶ All we like sheep have become lost; we have turned each one to his own way; and the LORD transposed in him the iniquity of us all.

²² But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

³⁹ And he went a little further and fell on his face, praying and saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

⁸ For this thing I besought the Lord three times that it might be taken from me.

¹⁴ ¶ And the LORD said unto Abram, after Lot separated himself from him, Lift up now thine eyes and look from the place where thou art towards the Aquilon {the land of the north wind} and to the Negev {the south desert} and to the east and to the west; ¹⁵ for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it and to thy seed for ever.

¹² ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Climb up this Mount Abarim, and thou shalt see the land which I have given unto the sons of Israel.

¹ ¶ And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, ² and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea, ³ and the Negev and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar. ⁴ And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed. I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over there.

³⁸ But Joshua, the son of Nun, who stands before thee, he shall go in there; encourage him; for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

³ The LORD thy God, he will pass in front of thee, and he will destroy these Gentiles from before thee, and thou shalt inherit them; Joshua shall be the one who shall pass before thee, as the LORD has said.

⁷ And Moses called unto Joshua and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage, for thou shalt enter in with this people to the land which the LORD has sworn unto their fathers to give them, and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.

²³ And he gave Joshua, the son of Nun, a charge and said, Be strong and of a good courage for thou shalt bring the sons of Israel into the land which I swore unto them, and I will be with thee.

² Moses, my slave, is dead; now, therefore, arise, pass this Jordan, thou and all this people, unto the land which I give to the sons of Israel.

⁷ ¶ And the LORD said unto Joshua, From this day I will begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel that they may know that as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee. ⁸ Therefore, thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are entered into the brink of the water of the Jordan, ye shall stand still in the Jordan. ⁹ And Joshua said unto the sons of Israel, Draw near and hear the words of the LORD your God. ¹⁰ And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Hivite and the Perizzite and the Girgashite and the Amorite and the Jebusite. ¹¹ Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passes the Jordan before you. ¹² Now, therefore, take twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of each tribe a man. ¹³ And when the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off; for the waters that come down from above shall stand in a heap. ¹⁴ ¶ And it came to pass when the people removed from their tents to pass the Jordan and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people, ¹⁵ when those that bore the ark entered into the Jordan, as soon as the feet of the priests that bore the ark were dipped in the brim of the water (for Jordan overflows all its banks all the time of harvest), ¹⁶ that the waters which came down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far from the city of Adam, that is beside Zaretan; and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed and were cut off; and the people passed over right against Jericho. ¹⁷ But the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan until all the people finished passing the Jordan; and all Israel passed on dry ground.

⁶ ¶ Then he called for Solomon, his son, and charged him to build a house for the LORD God of Israel.

¹¹ Now, my son, the LORD be with thee, and be thou prospered and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he has said of thee. ¹² Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding and give thee commandments for Israel, and that thou keep the law of the LORD thy God. ¹³ Then shalt thou be prospered if thou shalt keep thyself to do the statutes and rights which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel; be strong and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed. ¹⁴ Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD one hundred thousand talents of gold and a thousand thousand talents of silver, and the brass and iron are without weight, for it is in abundance. Likewise, I have prepared timber and stone, unto which thou shalt add. ¹⁵ Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber and all manner of expert men for every manner of work. ¹⁶ Of the gold, the silver, and the brass and the iron, there is no number. Arise therefore, and go to work, and the LORD be with thee.

⁹ And thou, Solomon, my son, know thou the God of thy father and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing soul, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. ¹⁰ Take heed now, for the LORD has chosen thee to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong, and do it.

²⁰ And David said to Solomon, his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it; fear not, nor be dismayed, for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not leave thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work of the service of the house of the LORD.

¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses, but the grace and the truth of God came through Jesus, the Christ.

⁴⁵ which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus {Joshua in Heb.} into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers unto the days of David,

¹³ ¶ I give thee charge in the sight of God, who gives life to all things and before Christ Jesus, who testified before Pontius Pilate a good profession; ¹⁴ that thou keep the commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹ ¶ Thou, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. ² And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. ³ Thou, therefore, work hard as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

¹ ¶ I charge thee, therefore, before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead in his appearing and in his kingdom: ² Preach the word; be instant in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. ³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but, having itching ears, they shall heap up unto themselves teachers who shall speak to them according to their own lusts, ⁴ and thus they shall turn away their ears from the truth and shall return unto fables. ⁵ But watch thou in all things, labour, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry. ⁶ For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my release is at hand.

⁸ For if Jesus {Joshua in Heb.} had given them rest, then he would not afterward have spoken of another day.

³ And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor; and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.

⁴⁸ And they departed from the mountains of Abarim and pitched in the plains of Moab by Jordan of Jericho. ⁴⁹ Finally they pitched by the Jordan, from Bethjesimoth even unto Abelshittim in the plains of Moab.

³ Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baalpeor; for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the LORD thy God has destroyed them from among you.

⁴⁶ on this side of the Jordan, in the valley over against Bethpeor, in the land of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the sons of Israel smote after they were come forth out of Egypt;

⁶ And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor, but no one knows of his sepulchre unto this day.
