¹ ¶ Take care to do all the commandments which I command thee this day that ye may live and be multiplied and enter in and inherit the land which the LORD swore unto your fathers. ² And thou shalt remember all the way by which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness to afflict thee and to prove thee to know what was in thine heart, whether thou would keep his commandments, or not. ³ And he afflicted thee and caused thee to hunger and sustained thee with manna, food of which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know, that he might make thee know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD shall man live. ⁴ Thy raiment never waxed old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years. ⁵ And know in thine heart, that as a man chastens his son, so the LORD thy God chastens thee. ⁶ Keep, therefore, the commandments of the LORD thy God by walking in his ways and fearing him. ⁷ For the LORD thy God brings thee into a good land, a land of brooks, of waters, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills, ⁸ a land of wheat and barley and vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olives, of oil, and honey; ⁹ a land in which thou shalt eat bread without scarceness; thou shalt not lack any thing in it, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose mountains thou may dig brass. ¹⁰ ¶ Thou shalt eat and be full and bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he has given thee. ¹¹ Keep thyself, that thou forget not the LORD thy God, to not fulfill his commandments and his rights and his statutes, which I command thee this day, ¹² lest peradventure when thou hast eaten and art full and hast built goodly houses and dwelt therein, ¹³ and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied and all that thou hast is multiplied, ¹⁴ then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery, ¹⁵ who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness of burning serpents and scorpions and drought, where there was no water, who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint, ¹⁶ who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, a food which thy fathers knew not, afflicting thee and proving thee, to do thee good at thy latter end; ¹⁷ and thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth. ¹⁸ But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God, for it is he that gives thee the power to get wealth that he may confirm his covenant which he swore unto thy fathers, as it is this day. ¹⁹ And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God and walk after other gods and serve them and worship them, I protest against you this day that ye shall surely perish. ²⁰ As the Gentiles which the LORD shall destroy before your face, so shall ye perish because ye would not attend to the voice of the LORD your God.

¹ ¶ Now, therefore, hear, O Israel, the statutes and the rights which I teach you, for in doing them ye shall live and go in and inherit the land which the LORD God of your fathers gives you.

³² Ye shall observe to do, therefore, as the LORD your God has commanded you; ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

⁴ ¶ Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. ⁵ O that my ways were ordered to keep thy statutes! ⁶ Then I shall not be ashamed, when I have insight unto all thy commandments.

¹ ¶ It is in order then, brethren, that we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that in the manner ye were taught of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would continue to grow. ² For ye already know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass after these things that God proved Abraham and said unto him, Abraham; and he said, Behold, here I am.

²⁵ And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, which when he had cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There he gave them statutes and rights, and there he proved them

⁴ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather the word for every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.

³ And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke unto the sons of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had commanded him regarding them;

³³ who went in the way before you to search you out a place to pitch your tents, with fire by night, to show you by what way ye should go, and with a cloud by day.

⁷ For the LORD thy God has blessed thee in all the works of thy hand; he knows thy walking through this great wilderness; these forty years the LORD thy God has been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

¹⁸ Do not be afraid of them; remember well what the LORD thy God did with Pharaoh and with all Egypt;

¹⁶ who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, a food which thy fathers knew not, afflicting thee and proving thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;

³ thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God proves you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

⁵ And I have brought you forty years through the wilderness; your clothes are not waxed old upon you, and neither has thy shoe waxed old upon thy foot.

²⁵ But Hezekiah did not render again according to the benefit done unto him, for his heart lifted itself up; therefore there was wrath against him and against Judah and Jerusalem. ²⁶ Notwithstanding, Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

³¹ However, because of the ambassadors {Heb. scorners} of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that had happened in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

¹² And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,

¹⁹ His prayer also and how he was heard, and all his sins, and his trespass, and the places upon which he built high places, and set up groves and graven images, before he humbled himself; behold, these things are written among the words of the seers.

¹⁷ that he may withdraw the man from his own work and cover the man from pride.

⁵ With my ears I had heard thee; but now my eyes see thee. ⁶ Therefore, I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.

¹¹ ¶ I remembered the works of JAH; therefore I shall remember thy wonders of old.

⁷ Thou didst call in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder; I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

⁷ Our fathers did not understand thy wonders in Egypt; they did not remember the multitude of thy mercies but rebelled by the sea, even at the Red sea.

¹⁶ To him who led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endures for ever.

³ ¶ The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tries the hearts.

¹⁷ And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low; and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who shall know it? ¹⁰ I the LORD search the heart; I try the kidneys, even to give each man according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings.

¹⁰ Also I brought you up from the land of Egypt and led you forty years through the wilderness that you might possess the land of the Amorite.

² But who may abide the time of his coming? and who shall stand when he appears? for he shall be like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap: ³ And he shall sit to refine and to purify the silver: for he shall purify the sons of Levi and purge them as gold and silver that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for anyone that exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

²⁵ and needed not that any man should give testimony, for he knew what was in man.

¹¹ ¶ Therefore remember that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who were called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh, which is made by hands, ¹² that at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world,

³ knowing that the proving of your faith works patience,

⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

⁷ that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold (which perishes, nevertheless it is tried with fire), might be found unto praise and glory and honour when Jesus, the Christ, is made manifest;

⁵ ¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. ⁶ Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,

¹² ¶ For this reason, I will not leave off reminding you always of these things, although ye know them and are established in the present truth. ¹³ Because I have the right (as long as I am in this tabernacle) to stir you up by reminding you,

¹ ¶ Beloved, I now write unto you this second epistle, in which I alert with exhortation your pure understanding, ² that ye keep in memory the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets and of our commandment, that we are apostles of the Lord and Saviour,

²³ And I will kill her children with death, and all the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} shall know that I AM he that searches the kidneys and hearts, and I will give unto each one of you according to your works.

² And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness; ³ and the sons of Israel said unto them, It would have been better if we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots and when we ate bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

¹² I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel; speak unto them, saying, Between the two evenings ye shall eat flesh, and tomorrow ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God. ¹³ ¶ And it came to pass, that in the evening quail came up, and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew descended round about the host. ¹⁴ And when the dew ceased to descend, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing as small as the hoar frost on the ground. ¹⁵ And when the sons of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna (What is it?): for they did not know what it was. Then Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat. ¹⁶ This is the thing which the LORD has commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for each one, according to the number of your persons; take ye each one for those who are in his tent. ¹⁷ And the sons of Israel did so and gathered, some more, some less. ¹⁸ And when they did measure it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered each one according to his eating. ¹⁹ And Moses said, Let no one leave of it until the morning. ²⁰ Notwithstanding they did not hearken unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms and stank; and Moses was angry with them. ²¹ And they gathered it early in the morning, each one according to his eating; and when the sun waxed hot, it melted. ²² ¶ And it came to pass that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one; and all the princes of the congregation came and told Moses. ²³ And he said unto them, This is what the LORD has said, Tomorrow is the holy sabbath of rest unto the LORD; bake that which ye will bake today and cook what ye will cook; and that which remains over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. ²⁴ And they laid it up until the morning as Moses bade; and it did not stink, neither was there any worm in it. ²⁵ And Moses said, Eat that today; for today is a sabbath unto the LORD; today ye shall not find it in the field. ²⁶ Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none. ²⁷ And it came to pass that some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather, and they found none. ²⁸ And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws? ²⁹ See that the LORD has given you the sabbath; therefore, he gives you the bread of two days on the sixth day; abide ye every man in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. ³⁰ So the people rested on the seventh day. ³¹ And the house of Israel called its name Manna; and it was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey. ³² ¶ And Moses said, This is what the LORD has commanded, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your descendants, that they may see the bread with which I have fed you in the wilderness when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt. ³³ And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot and put an omer full of manna in it and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your descendants. ³⁴ As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. ³⁵ Thus the sons of Israel ate manna forty years until they came to a land inhabited; they ate manna until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

³ Beth Wait in the LORD and do good; live in the land and uphold the truth.

²³ and he commanded the clouds of above and opened the doors of the heavens ²⁴ and caused manna to rain upon them to eat and gave them wheat of the heavens. ²⁵ Man did eat the food of the strong; he sent them food to the full.

²⁷ These wait all upon thee, that thou may give them their food in due season. ²⁸ Thou givest unto them, they gather; thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good. ²⁹ Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled; thou takest away their spirit, they cease to exist and return to their dust.

⁴⁰ The people asked, and he brought quails and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.

⁴ But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

⁴ And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

²⁹ And seek not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, neither be ye high minded. ³⁰ For all these things do the Gentiles of the world seek after, and your Father knows that ye have need of these things.

³ and did all eat the same spiritual food

⁵ Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have; for he has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. ⁶ So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

²¹ Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness so that they lacked nothing; their clothes did not wax old, and their feet did not swell.

²⁵ Then Judas, who was betraying him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said. ²⁶ ¶ And as they were eating, Jesus took the bread, and, having blessed it, broke it and gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is my body. ²⁷ And taking the cup and having given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; ²⁸ for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. ²⁹ But I say unto you, I will not drink from now on of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom. ³⁰ And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

⁹ Therefore, take heed to thyself and keep thy soul diligently lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life, but teach them to thy sons and thy sons’ sons.

²³ Keep yourselves, do not forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he established with you, and make yourselves a graven image or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God has forbidden thee.

¹⁴ I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the stripes of the sons of men;

¹⁷ ¶ Behold, blessed is the man whom God chastens; therefore, do not despise not the correction of the Almighty. ¹⁸ For he makes sore, and binds up; he wounds, and his hands make whole.

³² then I will visit their rebellion with the rod and their iniquity with stripes.

¹² ¶ Blessed is the man whom thou dost chasten, O JAH, and teach him out of thy law,

¹² For the LORD chastens whom he loves and delights in, even as a father to his son.

³ The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master’s crib; but Israel does not know, my people do not have understanding.

³ Therefore, thou son of man, prepare thee stuff for moving and move by day in their sight and thou shalt move from thy place to another place in their sight: they will not see for they are a rebellious house.

²⁸ Because he saw and left all his rebellions that he has committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

³² But being judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

⁵ And ye have quite forgotten the consolation which speaks unto you as unto sons, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art reproved of him: ⁶ for whom the Lord loves, he chastens and scourges everyone whom he receives as a son. ⁷ If ye endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father does not chasten? ⁸ But if ye are without chastisement, of which all the sons are partakers, then ye are bastards, and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we gave them reverence; is it not much better to be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and we shall live? ¹⁰ For they verily for a few days chastened us as it seemed good unto them, but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ It is true that no chastening at present seems to be cause for joy, but rather for grief; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto those who are exercised by it.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.

²⁰ And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws and shalt show them the way in which they must walk and the work that they must do.

³³ Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God has commanded you that ye may live and that it may be well with you and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye are to inherit.

²⁴ Only fear the LORD and serve him in truth with all your heart, for consider what great things he has done with you.

³¹ that they may fear thee and walk in thy ways all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

¹ A Song of degrees. ¶ Blessed is every one that fears the LORD, that walks in his ways.

⁶ And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless.

⁸ and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land unto a good and broad land, unto a land flowing with milk and honey, unto the places of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

¹⁰ And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give it unto thee: great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build, ¹¹ and houses full of all good things, which thou didst not fill, and hewn out wells, which thou didst not dig, vineyards and olive trees, which thou didst not plant; when thou shalt have eaten and be full,

⁹ and that ye may prolong your days in the land, which the LORD swore unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land that flows with milk and honey. ¹⁰ For the land, into which thou goest to inherit it, is not as the land of Egypt, from which ye came out, where thou didst sow thy seed and water it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs. ¹¹ The land, into which ye go to inherit it, is a land of mountains and valleys and drinks water of the rain of heaven, ¹² a land which the LORD thy God procures; the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.

²⁴ So the sons came in and possessed the land, and thou didst humble the inhabitants of the land before them, the Canaanites, and didst give them into their hand, with their kings and the peoples of the land, that they might do with them as they would. ²⁵ And they took strong cities and fertile land and inherited houses full of all goods, hewn cisterns, vineyards and oliveyards and many trees of good fruit; so they ate and were filled and became fat and delighted themselves in thy great goodness.

⁹ Thou dost visit the earth, and when thou hast caused it to want, thou dost greatly enrich it with the river of God, which is full of water; thou dost prepare their grain, according to thy will. ¹⁰ Thou dost water its rows abundantly; thou dost settle its furrows; thou dost make it soft with showers of rain; thou dost bless its sprouting. ¹¹ Thou dost crown the year with thy goodness, and thy clouds distill fatness. ¹² They fall upon the habitations of the wilderness; and the hills gird themselves with happiness. ¹³ The plains clothe themselves with sheep, and the valleys cover themselves with grain; they give shouts of triumph, they even sing.

⁶ in the day that I lifted up my hand unto them with an oath that I would bring them forth from the land of Egypt into a land that I had prepared for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the most beautiful of all lands,

¹⁴ butter of cows and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs and rams of the sons of Bashan (or fruitfulness) and goats with the fat of kidneys, of wheat; and thou didst drink the blood of the grape, pure wine.

⁶ And they came there into the midst of the house as though they were wheat merchants, and they smote him under the fifth rib; and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.

¹¹ And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household and twenty thousand measures of pure oil; this gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

¹⁰ And, behold, I will give to thy slaves, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat and twenty thousand measures of barley and twenty thousand baths of wine and twenty thousand baths of oil. ¹¹ ¶ Then Hiram, the king of Tyre, answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the LORD has loved his people, he has placed thee as king over them. ¹² Hiram said, moreover, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, that made the heavens and the earth, who has given to King David a wise son with knowledge, good sense and understanding, that he might build a house for the LORD and a house for his kingdom. ¹³ And now I have sent a wise man, with knowledge and understanding, of Hiram my father, ¹⁴ the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skillful to work in gold and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, in fine linen, and in crimson; also to engrave any manner of figure and to invent any design which shall be put to him, with thy craftsmen and with the craftsmen of my lord David, thy father. ¹⁵ Now, therefore, let my lord send unto his slaves the wheat and the barley, the oil and the wine, which he has spoken of;

¹⁶ And God would have fed them also the finest of the wheat, and with honey out of the rock I would have satisfied thee.

¹⁴ He who makes peace to be thy borders shall fill thee with the finest of the wheat.

²³ And it shall come to pass in that day that in the place where there were a thousand vines that were worth a thousand shekels of silver, it shall even be for the briers and for the thorns.

¹⁷ And they shall eat up thine harvest and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds; they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees; and thy fenced cities, in which thou dost trust, they shall bring to nothing with the sword.

¹⁷ Judah, and the land of Israel; they were thy merchants: they traded in thy market with wheat, Minnith and Pannag and honey and oil and balm.

⁸ For she did not recognize that I gave her the wheat and the wine and the oil and multiplied unto them the silver and the gold, with which they made Baal.

²² and the earth shall respond to the wheat and the wine and the oil; and they shall respond to Jezreel.

⁴ But each one shall sit under their vine and under their fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid, for the mouth of the LORD of the hosts has spoken it.

¹⁷ Because the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be on the vines; the labour of the olive shall lie, and the cultivated fields shall yield no food; the sheep shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:

⁹ There is a lad here, who has five barley loaves and two small fishes, but what are they among so many?

¹³ Therefore they gathered them together and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over from those that had eaten.

²⁵ Thy locks shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.

⁸ And he spoke unto them, saying, Return with great riches unto your tents and with a great amount of cattle with silver, with gold, with brass, with iron, and with very much clothing; divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.

¹⁴ Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD one hundred thousand talents of gold and a thousand thousand talents of silver, and the brass and iron are without weight, for it is in abundance. Likewise, I have prepared timber and stone, unto which thou shalt add.

² Iron is taken out of the dust, and bronze is melted out of the stone.

¹¹ and houses full of all good things, which thou didst not fill, and hewn out wells, which thou didst not dig, vineyards and olive trees, which thou didst not plant; when thou shalt have eaten and be full, ¹² then beware lest thou forget the LORD, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.

¹⁴ But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come of thee and of thine own have we given thee.

² Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

⁹ Honour the LORD with thy substance and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

¹⁹ And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass and took the five loaves and the two fishes; and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

²³ (but other boats came from Tiberias near unto the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks);

⁶ He that observes the day, let him observe it unto the Lord; and he that does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He that eats, eats unto the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he that does not eat, unto the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.

³¹ Whether therefore ye eat or drink or whatever ye do, do everything for the glory of God.

¹⁸ In every thing give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

⁴ For everything that God created is good, and nothing is to be refused, if it is received with thanksgiving, ⁵ for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

²¹ They forgot the God of their saving health, who had done great things in Egypt,

³² For the rest of the ignorant shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

⁹ Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and blaspheme the name of my God.

¹⁰ I clothed thee also with broidered work and shod thee with badgers’ skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I clothed thee with silk. ¹¹ I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy arms and a chain on thy neck. ¹² And I put nose rings upon thy nostrils and earrings in thine ears and a diadem of beauty upon thine head. ¹³ Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen and silk and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour of wheat and honey and oil: and thou wast made exceeding beautiful, and thou hast prospered even until thou hast reigned. ¹⁴ And thy renown went forth among the Gentiles for thy beauty; for it was perfect because of my beauty which I placed upon thee, said the Lord GOD. ¹⁵ ¶ But thou didst trust in thine own beauty and didst play the harlot because of thy renown and didst pour out thy fornications on every one that passed by; thou wert his.

⁸ For she did not recognize that I gave her the wheat and the wine and the oil and multiplied unto them the silver and the gold, with which they made Baal. ⁹ Therefore I will return and take away my wheat in the time thereof and my wine in the season thereof and will recover my wool and my flax that I had given to cover her nakedness.

⁴⁷ Because thou didst not serve the LORD thy God with joyfulness and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things;

²⁰ For I shall bring them into the land which I swore unto their fathers, that flows with milk and honey, and they shall eat and fill themselves and wax fat; then they will turn unto other gods and serve them and provoke me and break my covenant.

¹⁵ ¶ But Jeshurun (the upright one) waxed fat and kicked; (thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou hast covered thyself) and forsook the God who made him and lightly esteemed the strong One of his saving health.

⁴ I made myself great works; I built myself houses; I planted myself vineyards;

¹⁴ That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cuts out windows in it and covers it with cedar and anoints it with vermilion. ¹⁵ Shalt thou reign, because thou dost enclose thyself in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink and do judgment and righteousness, and then it was well with him?

³ who say, It is not near; let us build houses; these shall be the caldron, and we the flesh.

⁵ ¶ I knew thee in the wilderness, in the dry land. ⁶ In their pastures, they filled themselves; they were satisfied, and their heart was exalted; for this reason they have forgotten me.

¹¹ Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat, ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.

⁴ Do you have time, all of you, to dwell in your panelled houses, and this house is deserted?

²⁸ Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;

¹ ¶ Thus Abram went up out of Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had and Lot with him into the Negev. ² And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. ³ And he retraced his journeys from the side of the Negev even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai, ⁴ unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the LORD. ⁵ ¶ And Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents.

³ His substance was seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she asses, and a very great store of servants, so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

⁶ Surely man walks in darkness; surely they are disquieted in vain; they heap up riches not knowing who shall gather them.

¹³ ¶ And one of the crowd said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me. ¹⁴ And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? ¹⁵ And he said unto them, Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for a man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses. ¹⁶ And he spoke a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully; ¹⁷ and he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my storehouses and build greater, and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast stored up? ²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself and is not rich in God.

¹¹ Keep thyself, that thou forget not the LORD thy God, to not fulfill his commandments and his rights and his statutes, which I command thee this day,

²⁰ that his heart be not lifted up above his brethren and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand or to the left, to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his sons, in the midst of Israel.

¹⁶ ¶ But when he was strengthened, his heart lifted itself up unto corruption, for he rebelled against the LORD his God, entering into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

²⁵ But Hezekiah did not render again according to the benefit done unto him, for his heart lifted itself up; therefore there was wrath against him and against Judah and Jerusalem.

⁶ Neither did they say, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through and where no man dwelt?

³¹ O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? Why do my people say, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

⁷ ¶ For who makes thee to judge? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, what dost thou glory of, as if thou hadst not received it? ⁸ Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye reign as kings without us, and I wish ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.

⁵ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people and take with thee of the elders of Israel and thy rod, with which thou didst smite the river take in thine hand and go. ⁶ Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb, and thou shalt smite the rock, and water shall come out of it that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

⁶ And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many people of Israel died.

¹⁹ ¶ And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorite, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadeshbarnea.

¹³ He made him ride on the high places of the earth that he might eat the fruits of the field; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock and oil out of the strong flint,

¹⁵ He clave the rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink as out of the great depths. ¹⁶ He brought streams also out of the rock and caused waters to run down like rivers.

⁴¹ He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places and became a river.

⁸ who turned the rock into a reservoir of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

⁷ The parched ground shall become a pool and the thirsty land springs of water; in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

¹² He that led them by the right hand of Moses with the arm of his glory, he who divided the water before them, thus making himself an everlasting name. ¹³ He that led them through the deep, as a horse in the wilderness, they never stumbled. ¹⁴ The Spirit of the LORD pastored them as a beast that goes down into the valley; so didst thou lead thy people, to make thyself a glorious name.

⁵ ¶ I knew thee in the wilderness, in the dry land.

⁴ and did all drink the same spiritual drink, for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them; and that Rock was the Christ.

¹⁵ And when the sons of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna (What is it?): for they did not know what it was. Then Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat.

³ And he afflicted thee and caused thee to hunger and sustained thee with manna, food of which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know, that he might make thee know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD shall man live.

⁵ Thus hath the LORD God of Israel said: Like these good figs, so will I acknowledge those that are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good. ⁶ For I will set my eyes upon them for good, and I will return them to this land, and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

²⁶ Teth It is good to wait quietly in the salvation of the LORD. ²⁷ Teth It is good for the man if he bears the yoke from his youth. ²⁸ Jod He shall sit alone and keep silence because he has borne it upon him. ²⁹ Jod He shall put his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope. ³⁰ Jod He shall turn his cheek unto him that smites him; he shall be filled with reproach. ³¹ Caph For the Lord will not cast off for ever: ³² Caph But though he causes grief, yet he will also have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. ³³ Caph For he does not afflict nor grieve the sons of men from his heart.

²⁸ And we now know that unto those who love God, all things help them unto good, to those who according to the purpose are called to be saints.

¹⁷ For our tribulation, which is momentary and light, prepares an exceeding and eternal weight of glory unto us;

¹² Blessed is the man that patiently endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those that love him.

¹⁷ When thou shalt say in thy heart, These Gentiles are more than I; how can I dispossess them?

⁴ Think not in thine heart, after the LORD thy God has cast them out from before thee, saying, Because of my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to inherit this land; rather for the wickedness of these Gentiles the LORD drives them out from before thee.

⁸ For he shall say, Are not my princes altogether kings? ⁹ Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus? ¹⁰ As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel those of Jerusalem and of Samaria; ¹¹ shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols? ¹² Therefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord has performed his whole work upon Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will come upon the fruit of the pride of the heart of the king of Assyria, and upon the glory of his high looks. ¹³ For he said, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I have been prudent: and I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures, and I have cast down as valiant ones those who were seated: ¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the peoples: and as one gathers eggs that are left, I have taken control over all the earth; and there was no one that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

³⁰ the king spoke and said, Is this not the great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power and for the glory of my greatness?

⁸ And Ephraim said, Surely I have become rich, I have found riches for myself; no one shall find iniquity in me, nor sin in all my labours.

¹⁶ Therefore, he shall sacrifice unto his net and burn incense unto his drag because by them his portion is fat, and his food plenteous.

⁷ ¶ For who makes thee to judge? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, what dost thou glory of, as if thou hadst not received it?

⁸ but because the LORD loved you and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, has the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand and ransomed you out of the house of slavery from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.

¹² ¶ And it shall come to pass, for having heard these rights and for having kept them by doing them that the LORD thy God shall keep the covenant with thee and the mercy which he swore unto thy fathers;

¹ A Song of degrees for Solomon. ¶ Unless the LORD builds the house, they labour in vain that build it; unless the LORD keeps the city, the watchmen watch in vain. ² It is vain for you to rise up early, to come home late, to eat the bread of sorrows, because he shall give his beloved sleep.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ Blessed be the LORD my strength, who trains my hands for the battle and my fingers for the war:

²² ¶ The blessing of the LORD is that which makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

²⁶ I put heaven and earth as witnesses today that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land unto which ye pass the Jordan to inherit it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it without being utterly destroyed.

⁵⁸ if thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book that thou may fear this glorious and fearful name; I AM thy God. ⁵⁹ Then the LORD will augment thy plagues wonderfully, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues and of long continuance, and evil sicknesses and of long continuance. ⁶⁰ Moreover, he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of, and they shall cleave unto thee. ⁶¹ Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, the LORD will bring upon thee until thou art destroyed. ⁶² And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude, because thou would not hear the voice of the LORD thy God. ⁶³ And it shall come to pass that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to cause you to perish and to destroy you; and ye shall be plucked from off the land into which thou dost enter in to inherit it. ⁶⁴ And the LORD shall scatter thee among all the peoples from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone. ⁶⁵ Neither shalt thou find rest among these Gentiles, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest; but there the LORD shall give thee a trembling heart and failing of eyes and sorrow of soul; ⁶⁶ and thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night and shalt have no assurance of thy life. ⁶⁷ In the morning thou shalt say, I wish it were evening, and in the evening thou shalt say, I wish it were morning! For the fear of thine heart with which thou shalt fear and for that which thine eyes shall see. ⁶⁸ And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again in ships by the way of which I spoke unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again; and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for menslaves and womenslaves, and there shall be no one to buy you.

²⁵ Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt; ²⁶ for they went and served other gods and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not and who had not given anything unto them. ²⁷ Therefore, the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book. ²⁸ And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger and in wrath and in great indignation and cast them into another land, as it is today.

¹⁸ I declare unto you this day that ye shall surely perish and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, to go unto which thou passest the Jordan to inherit it. ¹⁹ I call the heavens and the earth to witness today against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore, choose life that both thou and thy seed may live,

¹³ know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no longer drive out any of these Gentiles from before you, but they shall be snares and traps unto you and scourges in your sides and thorns in your eyes until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

²⁵ But if ye shall persevere in doing wickedly, both ye and your king shall perish.

² in the first year of his reign, I Daniel saw diligently in the books the number of the years, of which the LORD spoke unto Jeremiah the prophet, which would conclude the desolation of Jerusalem in seventy years.

² You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore, I will visit all your iniquities against you.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath, but the whole earth shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all those that dwell in the earth.

⁶ I have caused the Gentiles to be cut off: their castles are desolate; I made their streets waste until no one passes by; their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man left, there is no inhabitant.

⁴⁷ And that slave who knew his lord’s will and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ⁴⁸ But he that knew not and did commit things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom much was committed, more will be asked of him.

³ I tell you, No; but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his words and misused his prophets until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, and there was no remedy. ¹⁷ Therefore, he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age; he gave them all into his hands.

¹¹ And all Israel transposed thy law, departing by not hearing thy voice; by which the curse has fallen upon us and the oath that is written in the law of Moses, the slave of God, because we have sinned against him. ¹² And he has confirmed his words, which he spoke over us and over our judges that governed us, by bringing upon us such a great evil: that such has never been done under the whole heaven as has been done upon Jerusalem.
