⁵ which in other generations was not made known unto the sons of men as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit,

¹⁷ For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see and have not seen them and to hear those things which ye hear and have not heard them.

³⁴ ¶ Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets and wise men and scribes, and some of them ye shall kill and crucify, and some of them ye shall scourge in your synagogues and persecute them from city to city,

²⁶ And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he should see the Christ of the Lord. ²⁷ And he came by the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

²⁴ for I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see those things which ye see and did not see them and to hear those things which ye hear and did not hear them.

⁴⁹ Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and others they shall persecute:

²⁶ But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all the things that I have said unto you.

¹³ Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth, for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak, and he will cause you to know the things which are to come.

¹⁹ ¶ While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. ²⁰ Arise therefore and get thee down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.

²⁸ And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an abominable thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company or come unto one of another nation; but God has showed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

²⁵ ¶ Now to him that is able to confirm you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was concealed from times eternal

⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit a word of wisdom; to another, a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; ⁹ to another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by the same Spirit; ¹⁰ to another, the operation of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, discerning of spirits; to another, different kinds of tongues; to another, the interpretation of tongues:

²⁸ And God did set certain ones in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}: first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that faculties, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. ²⁹ Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? do all have faculties?

²⁰ and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone,

⁹ and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the ages has been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ.

¹¹ And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers, ¹² for the perfecting of the saints in the work of the ministry, unto the edifying of the body of the Christ

¹⁰ but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has annulled death, and has brought life and incorruption to light through the gospel, ¹¹ unto which I am appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher of the Gentiles.

¹ ¶ Paul, slave of God, and apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness; ² for the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the times of the ages ³ and has manifested in due times. It is his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

³⁹ And these all, approved by testimony of faith, received not the promise, ⁴⁰ God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

¹⁰ ¶ Of which saving health the prophets, (who prophesied of the grace that was to come in you) have enquired and searched diligently; ¹¹ searching when and in what point of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, which announced beforehand the afflictions that were to come upon the Christ, and the glory that should follow them. ¹² Unto whom it was revealed that not unto themselves, but unto us they did administer the things, which are now announced unto you by those that have preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven, which things the angels desire to look into.

² that ye keep in memory the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets and of our commandment, that we are apostles of the Lord and Saviour,

¹⁷ But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ,
