⁴⁰ By day the drought consumed me, and by night, the frost; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.

¹⁹ And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the pastors and also drew water enough for us and watered the sheep. ²⁰ And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? Why is it that ye have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread. ²¹ And Moses was content to dwell with the man; and he gave Moses Zipporah, his daughter. ²² And she gave birth to a son, and he called his name Gershon, for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.

¹ ¶ Now as Moses shepherded the sheep of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, he led the flock to the backside of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

⁷⁰ He chose David also his slave and took him from the sheepfolds, ⁷¹ from following the ewes great with young, he brought him to feed Jacob his people and Israel his inheritance.

¹² But Jacob fled into the land of Aram, and Israel served for his wife, and for his wife he was a pastor.

⁸ ¶ And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

¹⁵ ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He said unto him, Yes, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my lambs. ¹⁶ He said to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He said unto him, Yes, Lord thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my sheep. ¹⁷ He said unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus said unto him, Feed my sheep.

⁷ Remember your pastors, who have spoken unto you the word of God, whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation:

² Feed the flock of God which is among you, caring for her, not by force, but willingly; not for shameful lucre, but with willing desire; ³ and not as having lordship over the heritage of the Lord, but in such a manner as to be examples of the flock. ⁴ And when the great Prince of the pastors shall appear, ye shall receive the incorruptible crown of glory.
