¹⁸ While he was yet speaking, there another came and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the firstborn;

²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon, then kill him. Fear not; have I not commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant.

⁴ ¶ And his sons went and had banquets in their houses, each one on his day, and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

¹³ ¶ And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the firstborn;

² Oh that my grief and calamity were justly weighed and laid equally in the balances! ³ For it would be heavier than the sand of the sea; therefore, my words are swallowed up.

⁴ Because thy sons sinned against him, he cast them away in the place of their rebellion;

¹⁴ He broke me with breach upon breach; he ran upon me like a giant.

⁹ He has stripped me of my glory and taken the crown from my head. ¹⁰ He has pulled me up on every side, and I am dried up; he has caused my hope to pass like an uprooted tree.

² Today I will also speak with bitterness; my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

¹⁴ If their sons are multiplied, it is for the sword; and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

¹⁹ Koph Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD shall deliver him out of them all,

² All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean and to the unclean; to him that sacrifices and to him that does not sacrifice: as unto the good so unto the sinner; and unto him that swears as unto him that fears the oath.

⁶ ¶ I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities and want of bread in all your places: yet ye have not returned unto me, said the LORD. ⁷ And also I have withheld the rain from you when there were yet three months to the harvest, and I caused it to rain upon one city and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece upon which it did not rain withered. ⁸ So two or three cities wandered unto one city to drink water, but they were not satisfied, yet ye have not returned unto me, said the LORD. ⁹ I have smitten you with the east wind and with the caterpillar; your many gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees were devoured by the locust; yet ye have never returned unto me, said the LORD. ¹⁰ I have sent among you the pestilence in the way to Egypt; your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils; and ye never returned unto me, said the LORD. ¹¹ I have overthrown some of you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the fire; and ye never returned unto me, said the LORD.
