¹ ¶ So these three men ceased to answer Job because he was righteous in his own eyes. ² Then the wrath of Elihu, the son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, was kindled; against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God. ³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job. ⁴ Now Elihu had waited until Job had spoken because they were all elder than he. ⁵ But when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled. ⁶ ¶ And Elihu, the son of Barachel, the Buzite, answered and said, I am younger, and ye are older; therefore, I was afraid, and I feared to declare unto you my opinion. ⁷ I said, Days shall speak, and the multitude of years shall declare wisdom. ⁸ Certainly there is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding. ⁹ Great men are not always wise; neither do the aged understand judgment. ¹⁰ Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will declare my knowledge. ¹¹ Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your arguments, while ye searched out what to say. ¹² Even so, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you to reprove Job or to answer his words. ¹³ Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom; it is needful that God thrust him down, and not man. ¹⁴ Now he has not directed his words against me; neither will I answer him with your reasons. ¹⁵ ¶ They were amazed, they answered no more; they left off speaking. ¹⁶ And I waited, (for they did not speak, but stopped, and answered no more); ¹⁷ I said, I will also answer my part, I will also declare my opinion. ¹⁸ For I am full of words; the spirit within me constrains me. ¹⁹ Behold, my belly is as wine which has no vent; it is ready to burst forth like spirits. ²⁰ I will speak, that I may be able to breathe; I will open my lips and answer. ²¹ I will not now be a respecter of persons, neither will I give flattering titles unto man. ²² For I do not know how to give flattering titles; otherwise my maker would soon take me away.

²⁹ Turn now, and there is no iniquity; return again to look for my righteousness in this.

² I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; cause me to understand why thou dost contend with me.

⁷ Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is no one that can deliver out of thy hand.

¹⁵ Though he slay me, yet I will trust in him; but I will defend my ways before him.

⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; and should I escape for ever from the one who condemns me.

⁴ my lips shall not speak iniquity, nor my tongue utter deceit. ⁵ In no wise should I justify you; until I die I will not remove my integrity from me. ⁶ I hold fast to my righteousness and will not let it go; my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.

¹¹ When the ears that heard me, called me blessed; and when the eyes that saw me, gave witness to me: ¹² because I delivered the poor that cried and the fatherless who had no one to help him. ¹³ The blessing of the one that was ready to perish came upon me; and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me as a robe; and my diadem was judgment. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the needy; and the cause which I did not know I searched out. ¹⁷ And I broke the fangs of the wicked and caused their teeth to release the prey.

¹ ¶ I made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I look upon a maid? ² For what reward would God give me from above and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? ³ Is there no destruction for the wicked? And banishment for the workers of iniquity? ⁴ Does he not see my ways and count all my steps? ⁵ If I have walked with falsehood or if my foot has hastened to deceit, ⁶ let me be weighed in a just balance, that God may know my integrity. ⁷ If my step has turned out of the way and my heart walked after my eyes and if any blot has cleaved to my hands, ⁸ then let me sow, and let another eat, and let my offspring be rooted out. ⁹ ¶ If my heart has been deceived regarding a woman, or if I have laid in wait at my neighbour’s door, ¹⁰ then let my wife grind for another, and let others bow down upon her. ¹¹ For this is lewdness and iniquity that is proven. ¹² For it is a fire that consumes unto hell and would root out all my increase. ¹³ If I had despised the right of my manslave or of my maidslave, when they contended with me; ¹⁴ what then would I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what would I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the belly also make him? And did not the same one fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel alone and the fatherless has not eaten thereof; ¹⁸ (for from my youth the fatherless was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided the widow from my mother’s womb) ¹⁹ if I have seen any perish for want of clothing or any needy without a covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; ²¹ if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, even when I saw that they would all help me in the gate; ²² then let my back fall from my shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from its joint. ²³ For I feared destruction from God, against whose highness I could have no power. ²⁴ ¶ If I have made gold my hope or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence; ²⁵ if I rejoiced because my wealth was being multiplied, and because my hand had gotten much; ²⁶ if I beheld the sun when it shone or the moon walking in beauty; ²⁷ and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my mouth kissed my hand; ²⁸ this would also be a proven iniquity; for I should have denied the God that is sovereign. ²⁹ If I rejoiced at the destruction of the one that hated me or lifted up myself when evil found him; ³⁰ for I have never even suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse upon his soul; ³¹ when the servants of my tent said, Oh that we had of his flesh! We would never be satisfied. ³² The stranger did not lodge in the street, but I opened my doors to the traveller. ³³ ¶ If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding my iniquity in my bosom; ³⁴ if I feared a great multitude or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and did not go out of the door? ³⁵ Oh that someone would hear me! Behold, my mark is, that the Almighty will testify for me, even though my adversary had written down the charges. ³⁶ Surely I would take it upon my shoulder and bind it as a crown to me. ³⁷ I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince I would go near unto him. ³⁸ If my land cries against me and all its furrows likewise complain; ³⁹ if I ate of its strength without money or have afflicted the soul of its owners; ⁴⁰ let thistles grow up unto me instead of wheat and stinkweed instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

⁹ I am clean without rebellion, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

³ Is it good unto thee that thou should oppress, that thou should reject the work of thine hands and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?

² As God lives, who has taken away my rights; and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,

⁵ In no wise should I justify you; until I die I will not remove my integrity from me.

²¹ Thou art become cruel to me; with the strength of thy hand thou dost hate me.

⁵ For Job has said, I am righteous; and God has taken away my right. ⁶ In my judgment he was a liar, my arrow wound is grievous without my having committed a transgression.

¹⁷ Shall even he that hates judgment govern? And wilt thou condemn the Mighty One that is righteous? ¹⁸ Is it fit to say to the king, Thou art of Belial and to the princes, Ye are ungodly?

² Dost thou think this to be right, when thou didst say, I am more righteous than God?

⁸ Wilt thou disannul my judgment? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou may be justified?

⁹ For the zeal of thy house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

⁵ And looking round about on them with anger, being grieved for the blindness of their hearts, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out and his hand was restored whole as the other.

²⁹ But he, desiring to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

²⁶ Be ye angry and sin not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath,

⁶ if thou wert pure and upright, surely now he would awake upon thee and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

³⁴ For the congregation of the hypocrites shall be made desolate, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.

⁵ ¶ Certainly thy wickedness is great and thine iniquities have no end. ⁶ For thou didst take a pledge from thy brother without cause and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ Thou didst not give water to drink to the weary, and thou hast withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But the man of means had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it. ⁹ Thou hast sent the widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore, snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubles thee ¹¹ or darkness, that thou canst not see, and abundance of waters cover thee. ¹² Is not God in the height of the heavens? Behold the height of the stars, how high they are! ¹³ And thou shalt say, What does God know? How can he judge through the darkness? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are his hiding place, and he does not see; and he walks in the circuit of heaven. ¹⁵ ¶ Dost thou desire to keep the old way which wicked men have trodden? ¹⁶ Who were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood. ¹⁷ Who said unto God, Depart from us; and what can the Almighty do unto us? ¹⁸ He had filled their houses with good things. Therefore, the counsel of the wicked is far from me. ¹⁹ The righteous shall see it and be glad; and the innocent laughs them to scorn. ²⁰ Whereas our substance was not cut down, when the fire had consumed the rest of them. ²¹ ¶ Make up thy friendship now with him, and thou shalt have peace; thereby good shall come unto thee. ²² Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart. ²³ If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tent; ²⁴ then thou shalt lay up gold as dust and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. ²⁵ And the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver. ²⁶ For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty and shalt lift up thy face unto God. ²⁷ Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows. ²⁸ Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; and the light shall shine upon thy ways. ²⁹ When others are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person. ³⁰ He shall deliver the island of the innocent; and in the pureness of thine hands thou shalt be kept.

²⁵ And if it is not so now, who will make me a liar or reduce my speech to nothing?

² Dominion and fear are with God; he makes peace in his high places. ³ Is there any number to his armies? And upon whom does his light not arise? ⁴ How then can man be justified with God? Or how can he that is born of a woman be clean? ⁵ Behold, even the moon shall not shine, neither are the stars pure in his sight. ⁶ How much less man, who is as a worm, and the son of man, who is also a worm?

² How hast thou helped the one who has no power? Hast thou saved with thy arm the one who has no strength? ³ How hast thou counselled the one that has no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is? ⁴ To whom hast thou uttered words, and whose is the spirit that comes forth from thee?

¹ ¶ So these three men ceased to answer Job because he was righteous in his own eyes.

⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world and prince of the seditious sect of the Nazarenes,

¹³ neither can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.

¹¹ Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your arguments, while ye searched out what to say. ¹² Even so, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you to reprove Job or to answer his words.

¹³ ¶ For him that answers a word before he hears, it is folly and reproach unto him.

¹⁹ And it came to pass as soon as he came near unto the camp and he saw the calf and the dances, anger caused Moses to wax hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mount.

³² Thou shalt rise up before grey hair and honour the face of the elder and fear thy God. I am the LORD.

²⁸ And Eliab, his eldest brother, heard when he spoke unto the men, and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why didst thou come down here? And with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride and the malice of thy heart, for thou art come down that thou might see the battle. ²⁹ And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause? ³⁰ And he turned from him toward another and spoke after the same manner, and the people answered him again after the former manner.

⁷ Wast thou born before Adam? Or wast thou formed before the hills?

¹⁰ Among us are also gray hairs; there are also aged men, much elder than thy father.

⁷ ¶ Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

¹ ¶ Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father, and the younger men as brethren,

⁶ Young men likewise exhort to be temperate;

⁵ ¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

⁶ Then King Rehoboam consulted with the old men that had stood before Solomon, his father, while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people? ⁷ And they spoke unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a slave unto this people this day and wilt serve them and answer them by speaking good words unto them, then they will be thy slaves for ever. ⁸ But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him and who stood before him.

⁸ ¶ Ask, I pray thee, of the former age, and be willing to enquire of thy fathers regarding them; ⁹ for we are but of yesterday and know nothing because our days upon earth are as a shadow. ¹⁰ Shall they not teach thee and tell thee and utter these words out of their heart?

¹² ¶ With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days intelligence.

¹¹ ¶ Caph Come, ye children, hearken unto me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. ¹² Lamed Who is the man that desires life and loves many days that he may see good?

¹ ¶ The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel; ² to know wisdom and chastening; to understand prudent words; ³ to receive the chastening of prudence, justice, judgment, and equity; ⁴ to give prudence to the simple, and to the young men knowledge and council.

³¹ ¶ Old age is a crown of glory if it is found in the way of righteousness.

¹² For you should now be teaching others, if we look at the time, yet you need to be taught again which are the first elements of the oracles of God and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong food.

³⁹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God has showed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art.

¹² behold, I have done according to thy words: behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

²⁸ And all Israel heard of that judgment which the king had judged, and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to judge.

²⁹ ¶ And God gave Solomon exceedingly great wisdom and intelligence and magnanimity of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.

¹² ¶ Now the matter was also hidden from me, but my ear has perceived a little of it. ¹³ In imaginations of visions of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, ¹⁴ fear came upon me and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. ¹⁵ Then a spirit passed before me which caused the hair of my flesh to stand up. ¹⁶ A ghost stood in front of me, whose face I did not recognize, and I heard it say, ¹⁷ Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his maker? ¹⁸ Behold, he put no trust in his slaves, and his angels he charged with folly. ¹⁹ How much more with those that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who shall be crushed by the moth! ²⁰ They are destroyed from morning to evening; they perish for ever without anyone regarding it. ²¹ Does their beauty perish with them? They die and do not know.

⁴ The Spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life.

¹⁶ then he opens the ears of men and seals their instruction,

¹¹ who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

³⁶ Who put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who gave intelligence to understanding?

⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and intelligence.

²⁶ For God gives to the man that is good in his sight wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to the one that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

¹⁷ ¶ And unto these four young men, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in all letters and science; furthermore Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

²¹ and it is he that changes the times and the opportunities; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom unto the wise and knowledge unto those that know understanding:

¹⁰ But God has revealed this unto us by his Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. ¹¹ For who among men knows the things of man, except the spirit of man which is in him? Even so no one has known the things of God, but the Spirit of God. ¹² Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that God has given us.

⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit a word of wisdom; to another, a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;

¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

⁵ And if any of you lacks wisdom, let them ask of God (who gives abundantly to all, and without reproach), and it shall be given them.

²⁰ He impedes the lips of those that speak the truth and takes away the counsel of the aged.

¹³ ¶ Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king who will no longer be admonished.

⁵ I will go unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke and burst the bonds.

²⁵ ¶ At that time Jesus answered and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and understanding and hast revealed them unto children.

⁴⁸ Have any of the princes or of the Pharisees believed on him?

²⁶ For look upon your vocation, brothers, that ye are not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, ²⁷ but rather God has chosen that which is the foolishness of the world to confound the wise, and God has chosen that which is the weakness of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;

⁷ but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God predestined before the ages unto our glory, ⁸ which none of the princes of this age knew (for had they known it, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory).

⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not the rich oppress you with tyranny and draw you with violence to the courts? ⁷ Do they not blaspheme that worthy name by which ye are called?

²⁵ ¶ Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord, yet I give my advice, as one that has obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.

⁴⁰ But she shall be more blessed if she so abides, after my counsel, and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

²⁷ Behold that which we have searched out, so it is; hear it and judge it for thyself.

²¹ They would hear me and wait, and keep silent at my counsel.

²³ And they waited for me as for the rain, and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

⁴ Now Elihu had waited until Job had spoken because they were all elder than he.

¹⁷ ¶ The one who is just is first in his cause, his adversary comes and seeks him out.

¹¹ ¶ The rich man is wise in his own conceit, but the poor that has understanding is wiser than he.

⁹ And the wiser the preacher became that much more did he teach wisdom to the people, causing them to listen and to search things out, and he composed many proverbs. ¹⁰ The preacher sought to find willing words and upright writings, even words of truth.

³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

⁷ desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor from where they affirm.

²³ that I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet; I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou should say, I have made Abram rich,

² And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, My own hand has saved me.

²¹ and said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

¹⁰ But he said unto her, Thou hast spoken as any of the foolish women speak. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God and shall we not receive evil? In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

⁹ By the breath of God they perish, and by the spirit of his anger they are consumed.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; my spirit drinks of the poison; and terrors of God combat me.

² No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

⁸ Hast thou heard the secret of God, that thou dost detain wisdom in thee alone? ⁹ What dost thou know that we do not? What dost thou understand, which is not in us? ¹⁰ Among us are also gray hairs; there are also aged men, much elder than thy father.

⁶ know now that God has overthrown me and has compassed me with his net.

²¹ Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God has touched me.

²¹ Woe unto those that are wise in their own eyes and prudent in their own sight!

⁵ I have already declared it many days ago; before it came to pass I showed it to thee: lest thou should say, My idol has done it, my graven image, and my molten image, has commanded these things.

⁷ They are created now, and not in days past; nor before this day hast thou heard them lest thou should say, Behold, I knew them.

²³ ¶ Thus hath the LORD said, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;

³ behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee:

⁷ And the LORD shall keep the tents of Judah as in the beginning, so that the glory of the house of David and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall not cause those of Judah to magnify themselves.

¹¹ Jesus answered, Thou could have no power at all against me, unless it were given thee from above; therefore he that delivered me unto thee has the greater sin.

¹⁹ For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. ²⁰ Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the philosopher of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? ²¹ For in the wisdom of God, since the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those that believe.

²⁷ but rather God has chosen that which is the foolishness of the world to confound the wise, and God has chosen that which is the weakness of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; ²⁸ and that which is vile of the world and that which is despised God has chosen, and things which are not, to bring to nought the things that are, ²⁹ that no flesh should glory in his presence.

¹⁸ ¶ Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you seems to be wise in this age, let them become a fool that they may be wise.

²⁴ Teach me, and I will be silent; and cause me to understand in what I have erred. ²⁵ How forcible are the words of rectitude! But what does your argument reprove?

²² After my words they would not reply, but my reason dropped upon them.

²³ And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

²² When they had heard these words, they marvelled and left him and went away.

²⁶ likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

³⁴ ¶ Then the Pharisees, hearing that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered together.

⁴⁶ And no one was able to answer him a word, neither dared anyone from that day forth ask him any more questions.

⁵ O that ye would altogether be silent! And it would be unto you instead of wisdom.

²⁸ Even a fool, when he is silent is counted wise, and he that shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

¹³ Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time, for it is an evil time.

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

¹⁰ Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will declare my knowledge.

¹² Behold, in this thou art not just; I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

³ For thou didst say, What advantage will it be unto thee? And, What profit shall I have, if I am cleansed from my sin? ⁴ I will answer thee and thy companions with thee.

³ My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue,

⁹ And I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But he was in my heart as a burning fire and within my bones; I tried to forbear, and I could not.

¹⁴ And the Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me. ¹⁵ And I came unto the captives at Telabib, that dwelt by the river of Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there disheartened among them seven days. ¹⁶ ¶ And it came to pass at the end of the seven days, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, ¹⁷ Son of man, I have placed thee as a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me. ¹⁸ When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die and thou dost not give him warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, that he might live, the same wicked man shall die for his iniquity; but his blood I will require at thine hand. ¹⁹ Yet if thou warn the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness nor from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. ²⁰ Again, When the righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die because thou hast not given him warning; he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at thy hand. ²¹ Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man that the righteous not sin and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul. ²² ¶ And the hand of the LORD came upon me there; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will talk with thee there. ²³ Then I arose and went forth into the plain, and, behold, the glory of the LORD stood there as the glory which I saw by the river of Chebar; and I fell on my face. ²⁴ Then spirit entered into me and set me upon my feet, and he spoke with me and said unto me, Go, shut thyself within thine house. ²⁵ And thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them; ²⁶ and I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth that thou shalt be dumb and shalt not be to them a reprover; for they are a rebellious house. ²⁷ But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: He that hears, let him hear, and he that forbears; let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.

²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

¹³ For whether we are fools, it is unto God; or whether we are sane, it is for your cause. ¹⁴ For the charity of the Christ constrains us because we judge thus: that if one died for all, then all are dead:

¹⁷ Neither do they put new wine into old wineskins, otherwise the wineskins break, and the wine runs out, and the wineskins perish; but they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved together.

¹³ ¶ Listen to me, and I will speak, and afterward let come on me what will.

¹⁹ Who is he that will contend with me? For now, if I remain silent, I shall die.

² My thoughts certainly cause me to answer, and therefore, I make haste.

³ Suffer me that I may speak; and after I have spoken, mock on.

⁶ Hear, for I will speak of excellent things, and the opening of my lips shall be right things. ⁷ For my mouth shall speak truth, and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

¹⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, neither pleasing the poor, nor favoring the mighty; but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

¹⁷ Ye shall not respect persons in judgment, but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s; and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.

¹⁹ Thou shalt not twist that which is right; thou shalt not respect persons neither take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

¹⁷ Then thy handmaid said, Let the word of my lord the king bring rest; for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and evil; and let the LORD thy God be with thee.

²⁰ to bring about this form of speech thy slave Joab has done this thing; but my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know that which is done in the earth.

⁸ Are ye to bring honour unto him? Are ye to contend for God?

¹⁰ He will reprove you severely, if in secret you give him such honour.

¹⁹ How much less to him who is not a respecter of the persons of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands.

²³ ¶ These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

¹⁶ And they sent out unto him their disciples with those of Herod, saying, Master, we know that thou art a lover of truth and teachest the way of God with truth and that thou takest care for no man, for thou art no respecter of persons of men.

²² And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of god, and not of man. ²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him because he did not give God the glory, and he expired eaten of worms.

² And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great peace and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy prudence, ³ we accept it always and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

⁵ He that speaks flattery to his neighbour, even the eyes of his sons shall fail.

² Each one speaks vanity with his neighbour: they speak with flattering lips and with a double heart. ³ The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips and the tongue that speaks proud things:

⁵ ¶ The man that flatters his neighbour spreads a net for his feet.

¹⁰ ¶ For do I now persuade men or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the slave of Christ.

⁵ For we were never flatterers in the word, as ye know, nor tainted with covetousness, God is witness,
