¹ ¶ Furthermore, Elihu answered and said, ² Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge. ³ For the ear tries words, as the mouth tastes food. ⁴ Let us choose our judgment; let us know among ourselves what is good. ⁵ For Job has said, I am righteous; and God has taken away my right. ⁶ In my judgment he was a liar, my arrow wound is grievous without my having committed a transgression. ⁷ What man is like Job, who drinks up the scorn like water? ⁸ Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men. ⁹ For he said, It shall profit a man nothing that he should conform his will with God. ¹⁰ ¶ Therefore, hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity. ¹¹ For he shall pay man according to his work and cause every man to find according to his ways. ¹² Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment. ¹³ Who visited the earth for him? And who set the whole world in order? ¹⁴ If he were to set his heart upon man and gather unto himself his spirit and his breath, ¹⁵ all flesh would perish together, and man would turn again unto dust. ¹⁶ ¶ If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words. ¹⁷ Shall even he that hates judgment govern? And wilt thou condemn the Mighty One that is righteous? ¹⁸ Is it fit to say to the king, Thou art of Belial and to the princes, Ye are ungodly? ¹⁹ How much less to him who is not a respecter of the persons of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor; for they all are the work of his hands. ²⁰ In a moment they shall die, and the peoples shall be troubled at midnight and shall pass away; and the mighty shall be taken away without hand. ²¹ For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he sees all his steps. ²² There is no darkness nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. ²³ For he will not lay upon man more than that which is just; that he should enter into judgment with God. ²⁴ He shall break in pieces mighty men without number and set others in their stead. ²⁵ Therefore, he shall cause their works to be notorious, when he shall overturn them in the night, so that they are destroyed. ²⁶ He shall strike them as wicked men in the open sight of others ²⁷ because thus they turned back from him and would not consider any of his ways ²⁸ so that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted. ²⁹ When he gives rest, who then can make trouble? If he hides his face, who then can behold him? This applies to a nation and the same to a man, ³⁰ that the hypocrite not reign, lest the people be ensnared. ³¹ ¶ For it is of God to say, I have forgiven, I will no longer destroy. ³² Teach me that which I do not see; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more. ³³ Will he, perchance finish his work by thee; whether thou refuse or whether thou choose, or by me? Speak what thou knowest. ³⁴ The men of understanding will say as I say, and the wise man will hearken unto me. ³⁵ Job has spoken without knowledge, and his words were without prudence. ³⁶ My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end, that there may be answers against wicked men. ³⁷ For he added rebellion unto his sin, he claps his hands among us and multiplies his words against God.

⁵ If the wise will hear them, doctrine shall increase, and the man of understanding shall acquire wise counsel:

¹⁵ ¶ I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

²⁰ Brothers, be not children in understanding, howbeit in malice be ye children; but in understanding be perfect.

³⁰ If there is iniquity in my tongue or if my taste cannot discern the torments.

¹¹ Certainly the ear proves words and the mouth tastes foods.

³⁰ for I have never even suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse upon his soul;

² Behold, now I shall open my mouth, my tongue shall speak in my mouth.

¹⁵ But he that is spiritual discerns all things, yet he is discerned by no one.

¹⁴ But strong food belongs to those that are perfect, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

³⁰ And everyone that saw it said, No such deed has been done or seen from the day that the sons of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt until this day. Consider this, give advice, and speak.

⁷ Behold, all ye sons of Israel; give here your advice and counsel.

³⁶ My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end, that there may be answers against wicked men.

² And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD, ³ and shall make him of quick olfaction in the fear of the LORD; and he shall not judge according to the sight of his eyes, neither reprove according to the hearing of his ears: ⁴ But with righteousness shall he judge the poor and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the spirit of his lips he shall slay the wicked. ⁵ And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faith the girdle of his kidneys.

²⁴ Judge not according to the appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.

² And be not conformed to this age, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your soul that ye may experience what is that good and well pleasing and perfect will of God.

² Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? ³ Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more the things that pertain to this life? ⁴ If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set as judges the most humble who are in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}. ⁵ I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brothers?

¹¹ ¶ But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face because he was to be blamed. ¹² For before certain ones came from James, he ate with the Gentiles, but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. ¹³ And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him, insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their hypocrisy. ¹⁴ But when I saw that they did not walk uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, dost live after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why dost thou compel the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

²¹ Examine all things; retain that which is good.

¹⁷ For he has broken me with a tempest and has multiplied my wounds without cause.

⁷ Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is no one that can deliver out of thy hand.

⁴ For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean before thine eyes.

¹⁷ ¶ even though there is no injustice in my hands, and my prayer has been pure.

² As God lives, who has taken away my rights; and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,

¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me as a robe; and my diadem was judgment.

¹ ¶ So these three men ceased to answer Job because he was righteous in his own eyes.

⁹ I am clean without rebellion, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; my spirit drinks of the poison; and terrors of God combat me.

¹³ His archers compassed me round about; he cleaved my kidneys asunder and did not spare; he poured out my gall upon the ground.

⁴ my lips shall not speak iniquity, nor my tongue utter deceit. ⁵ In no wise should I justify you; until I die I will not remove my integrity from me. ⁶ I hold fast to my righteousness and will not let it go; my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.

¹⁹ and it shall be, when that one hears the words of this curse, that he blesses himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of my heart, to add drunkenness to thirst.

¹⁶ How much less the man who is abominable and filthy, who drinks iniquity like water?

²² How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and the fools hate knowledge?

¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

¹⁰ But he said unto her, Thou hast spoken as any of the foolish women speak. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God and shall we not receive evil? In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

³ Should thy lies make men be silent? Shalt thou mock, and shall no man make thee ashamed?

⁵ For thy mouth has declared thine iniquity, and thou hast chosen the tongue of the crafty.

¹⁵ ¶ Dost thou desire to keep the old way which wicked men have trodden?

¹ ¶ Blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful.

⁴ I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with hypocrites.

¹⁸ When thou didst see a thief, then thou didst consent with him and hast been partaker with adulterers.

¹² Behold, these ungodly men, without being troubled by the world obtain riches. ¹³ Verily, in vain have I cleansed my heart and washed my hands in innocency ¹⁴ and been plagued all day long and chastened every morning: ¹⁵ ¶ If I should say, I will speak as they do; behold, I should deny the generation of thy sons.

¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

¹² to deliver thee from the evil way, from the man that speaks perversion,

¹⁴ ¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

²⁰ ¶ He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.

³³ Be not deceived: evil companions corrupt good character.

²² ¶ One thing remains, that I say, He consumes the perfect and the wicked. ²³ If it is the scourge, it slays suddenly, and it does not laugh at the trial of the innocent.

³⁰ If I wash myself with snow water and make my hands never so clean; ³¹ yet thou shalt plunge me into the pit, and my own clothes shall abhor me.

¹⁴ Therefore, they say unto God, Depart from us; for we do not desire the knowledge of thy ways. ¹⁵ Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what profit should we have if we pray unto him? ¹⁶ Behold that their good is not in their hands; the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

³⁰ That the wicked is reserved for the day of destruction, they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

¹⁷ Who said unto God, Depart from us; and what can the Almighty do unto us?

¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call upon God?

³ For thou didst say, What advantage will it be unto thee? And, What profit shall I have, if I am cleansed from my sin?

⁴ In the same manner delight thyself in the LORD, and he shall give thee the desires of thy heart.

¹⁴ Ye have said, It is vain to serve God, and what profit is it that we have kept his law and that we walk mournfully before the LORD of the hosts?

²⁵ That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked and that the righteous should be treated as the wicked that are far from thee. Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

⁴ The strong One, whose work is perfect: for all his ways are right; a God of truth and without iniquity, just and upright is he.

⁷ Therefore, now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it, for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.

³ Shall God pervert that which is right or shall the Almighty pervert justice?

² Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge. ³ For the ear tries words, as the mouth tastes food.

³⁴ The men of understanding will say as I say, and the wise man will hearken unto me.

²³ Who has prescribed his way unto him? Or who shall say unto him, Thou hast wrought iniquity?

²³ Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out; he is excellent in power and in judgment, and in plenty of righteousness he will not afflict.

¹⁵ to show that the LORD is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

³² But whosoever commits adultery with a woman has a fault in his heart; he that does it corrupts his own soul.

³² ¶ He that refuses chastening despises his own soul, but he that hears reproof has an understanding heart.

¹ ¶ Righteous art thou, O LORD, even though I dispute with thee: even so, I will speak judgments with thee; Why does the way of the wicked prosper? All those that completely rebel against thee have peace.

⁴ No, in no wise: for God is true, and every man a liar; as it is written, That thou might be justified in thy words and might overcome when thou dost judge. ⁵ And if our iniquity commends the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Shall for this reason God be unjust who sends punishment? (I speak as a man.)

¹⁴ ¶ What shall we say then? Is there injustice in God? No, in no wise.

¹³ ¶ Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does he tempt anyone:

²⁶ He shall pray unto God, and he will love him; and he shall see his face with shouts of joy; for he will render unto the man the recompense of his righteousness.

¹² Also unto thee, O Lord, belongs mercy, for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own counsel.

¹² if thou should say, Behold, we knew it not; shall not he that weighs the hearts understand it? and he that keeps thy soul, does he not know it? and shall he not render to every man according to his works?

¹⁹ great in counsel and magnificent in works: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men to give unto each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings;

¹⁷ Then the sons of thy people shall say, The way of the Lord is not straight: but their way is the one that is not straight. ¹⁸ When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die thereby. ¹⁹ And when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does judgment and righteousness, he shall live thereby. ²⁰ Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not straight. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you each one after his ways.

²⁷ For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he shall reward everyone according to their works.

⁶ who will render to everyone according to his deeds:

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ that each one may receive according to that which they have done in the body, good or evil.

⁷ Do not deceive yourselves; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that sows in the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life.

¹⁷ And if ye invoke as Father, he who without respect of persons judges according to the work of each one, converse in fear the entire time of your sojourning here,

¹² And, behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, to give each one according as his work shall be.

⁷ For the righteous LORD loves righteousness; his countenance beholds the upright.

¹⁷ Tzaddi The LORD is righteous in all his ways and merciful in all his works.

¹² ¶ Art thou not from the beginning, O LORD my God, my Holy One? we shall not die, O LORD, thou hast ordained him for judgment, and thou hast established him strong for chastisement. ¹³ Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil and canst not look on iniquity: why dost thou look upon those that deal treacherously and hold thy tongue when the wicked devour the man that is more righteous than he?

¹¹ Thine, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the honour, for all things in the heavens and in the earth are thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.

⁴ ¶ Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Cause me to know, if thou hast understanding. ⁵ Who ordered its dimensions, if thou knowest? Or who has stretched the line upon it? ⁶ Upon what are its foundations founded? Or who laid its corner stone; ⁷ when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? ⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? ⁹ When I made the clouds its garment and thick darkness a swaddling band for it, ¹⁰ and established my decree upon it, and set bars and doors, ¹¹ and said, Thou shalt come unto here, but no further; and there shall the pride of thy waves be stayed. ¹² ¶ Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days? Hast thou shown the dayspring its place, ¹³ that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it? ¹⁴ It is transformed as clay to the seal and then stands as a garment; ¹⁵ but the light of the wicked is taken from them, and the high arm is broken. ¹⁶ Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? Or hast thou walked searching out the deep? ¹⁷ Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? Or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death? ¹⁸ Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? Declare if thou knowest it all. ¹⁹ Where is the way to the habitation of the light, and where is the place of the darkness? ²⁰ If thou shalt take it in its borders, and if thou should understand the paths to its house? ²¹ If thou didst know when thou wast to be born or if the number of thy days was to be great? ²² Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow, and hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, ²³ which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war? ²⁴ By what way is the light divided; from where is the east wind scattered upon the earth? ²⁵ ¶ Who has divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters or a way for the lightning of thunder, ²⁶ to cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, in which there is no man; ²⁷ to satisfy the desolate and waste ground and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? ²⁸ Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of the dew? ²⁹ Out of whose womb came the ice, and the hoary frost of heaven, who has begotten it? ³⁰ The waters harden as stone, and the face of the deep is frozen. ³¹ Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? ³² Canst thou bring forth the signs of the heavens in their season, or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons? ³³ Dost thou know the ordinances of the heavens? Canst thou use its power in the earth? ³⁴ Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee? ³⁵ Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go and say unto thee, Here we are? ³⁶ Who put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who gave intelligence to understanding? ³⁷ Who declared the heavens in wisdom? Or who can stay the bottles of heaven ³⁸ when the dust hardens and the clods cleave fast together? ³⁹ Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion or fill the appetite of the young lions, ⁴⁰ when they crouch in their dens and abide in their lairs to lie in wait? ⁴¹ Who provided food for the raven; when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of food?

⁸ Wilt thou disannul my judgment? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou may be justified? ⁹ Hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like him? ¹⁰ Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty. ¹¹ Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath; and behold every one that is proud and bring him down.

²³ I was set up with eternal dominion, from the beginning, before the earth was. ²⁴ I was begotten before the depths, before the existence of the fountains of many waters. ²⁵ Before the mountains were founded, before the hills was I begotten. ²⁶ While as yet he had not made the earth nor the fields nor the beginning of the dust of the world, ²⁷ when he composed the heavens, I was there. When he set a compass upon the face of the depth, ²⁸ when he established the clouds above, when he strengthened the fountains of the deep, ²⁹ when he gave to the sea his decree that the waters should not pass his commandment, when he appointed the foundations of the earth, ³⁰ I was with him ordering everything; I was his delight every day, being content before him at all times;

¹³ Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD or being his counsellor has taught him? ¹⁴ With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him? Who taught him in the path of judgment and taught him knowledge and showed unto him the way of intelligence?

³⁵ and all the inhabitants of the earth are counted as nothing; and in the army of heaven and in the inhabitants of the earth, he does according to his will; nor is there anyone who can interfere with his hand and say unto him, What doest thou?

³⁴ For who has understood the intent of the Lord? or who has been his counsellor? ³⁵ Or who has first given unto him, that it be recompensed unto him again? ³⁶ For of him and by him and in him are all things. To him be the glory for the ages. Amen.

¹⁷ ¶ What is man that thou should magnify him and that thou should set thine heart upon him

⁴ He is wise in heart and mighty in strength; who has hardened himself against him and remained in peace?

²⁹ Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled; thou takest away their spirit, they cease to exist and return to their dust.

²² And they shall be gathered together as prisoners are gathered in the pit and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days they shall be visited.

¹⁹ in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread until thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken, for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

²² ¶ One thing remains, that I say, He consumes the perfect and the wicked.

⁹ Remember now that thou hast formed me as the clay; and wilt thou bring me into dust again?

²³ For I know that thou dost conduct me unto death and to the house appointed for all living.

³ Thou dost turn unto man until he is broken and thou saith, Become converted, ye sons of Adam. ⁴ For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past and as a watch in the night. ⁵ Thou dost cause them to pass by as the waters of a river; they are as a dream, which is strong in the morning like grass. ⁶ In the morning it blossoms and grows up; in the evening it is cut down and withers. ⁷ ¶ For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath we are troubled. ⁸ Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. ⁹ For all our days decline because of thy wrath; we end our years according to the word. ¹⁰ The days of our years are seventy, and of the most valiant eighty years, yet their strength is labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

⁷ and the dust returns to the earth as it was before and the spirit returns unto God who gave it.

⁴ Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would tread them down, I would burn them together.

¹⁶ For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for by me is the spirit covered by the body, and I have made the souls.

³ But I have a heart as well as you; I am not inferior to you; and who shall not be able to say as much again?

² As you know it, I know it; I am not inferior unto you. ³ But I would speak with the Almighty, and I desired to dispute with God. ⁴ That ye are certainly forgers of lies; ye are all physicians of no value. ⁵ O that ye would altogether be silent! And it would be unto you instead of wisdom. ⁶ Hear now my dispute, and hearken to the arguments of my lips.

²¹ But Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this because he cursed the LORD’s anointed?

³ The God of Israel dictated unto me, the strong One of Israel spoke): He that rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

²² In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with folly.

⁸ Wilt thou disannul my judgment? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou may be justified?

⁵ And if our iniquity commends the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Shall for this reason God be unjust who sends punishment? (I speak as a man.) ⁶ No, in no wise: for then how shall God judge the world? ⁷ For if the truth of God has more abounded through my lie unto his glory, why even so am I also judged as a sinner?

²⁸ Thou shalt not revile the judges nor curse the prince of thy people.

²⁶ ¶ It is certainly not good to condemn the just, nor to smite princes for doing that which is upright.

³ Then Paul said unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whitewashed wall, for dost thou sit to judge me after the law and command me to be smitten contrary to the law?

⁵ Then Paul said, I did not know, brethren, that he was the prince of the priests, for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

⁷ ¶ Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

¹⁷ Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

¹⁰ ¶ and chiefly those that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise dominion; presumptuous, arrogant, they are not afraid to speak evil of the higher powers;

⁸ ¶ In the same manner these deceived dreamers, defile their flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of higher powers.

¹⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, neither pleasing the poor, nor favoring the mighty; but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

¹⁷ For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, a great God, mighty, and terrible, who makes no exception of persons, nor takes a bribe;

³ Is it good unto thee that thou should oppress, that thou should reject the work of thine hands and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?

¹⁹ He leads priests away spoiled and overthrows the mighty.

²¹ He pours contempt upon princes and weakens the strength of the mighty.

⁸ Are ye to bring honour unto him? Are ye to contend for God?

¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the belly also make him? And did not the same one fashion us in the womb?

¹⁹ Will he esteem thy riches? No, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.

² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his anointed, saying, ³ let us break their bands asunder and cast away their cords from us. ⁴ He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

⁶ ¶ Those that trust in their wealth and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁷ none of them can by any means ransom his brother, nor give God an atonement for him;

³¹ ¶ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, but he that has mercy on the poor, honours him.

² ¶ The rich and poor meet together; the LORD is the maker of them all.

⁸ If thou seest violence unto the poor and the extortion of rights and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter, for height is looking upon height; and there is one higher than they.

¹⁴ The LORD will come with judgment against the elders of his people and against these his princes, for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

³⁴ ¶ Then Peter opened his mouth and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons;

¹¹ For there is no respect of persons with God.

⁶ But of these who seemed to be of repute, (whatever they were, it makes no matter to me: God does not accept the appearance of men), for those who seemed to be of repute in conference added nothing to me;

⁹ And, ye masters, do the same unto them, forbearing threats, knowing that their Master and yours is also in the heavens and that he is no respecter of persons.

²⁵ But he that does wrong shall receive the wrong which he has done, now that there is no respect of persons.

²⁸ Therefore, receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us hold fast to the grace, by which we serve God, pleasing him with reverence and godly fear:

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world that they might be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those that love him?

²⁹ ¶ And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the animals. ³⁰ And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his slaves and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead.

³⁷ But it came to pass in the morning when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. ³⁸ And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, and he died. ³⁹ And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the LORD that judged the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal and has kept his slave from evil, for the LORD has returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent word unto Abigail to take her to him to wife.

¹⁰ David said furthermore, As the LORD lives, if the LORD does not smite him or his day comes to die or he descends into battle and perishes,

²⁰ Do not desire the night, when he cuts people off in their place.

¹⁹ How they are brought into desolation, as in a moment! They have come to an end; they are utterly consumed with terrors.

¹⁶ Therefore shall the Lord, the LORD of the hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire. ¹⁷ And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day; ¹⁸ and shall consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, from the soul unto the flesh; and they shall come to be as a standard-bearer in defeat. ¹⁹ And the trees that shall remain in his forest shall be in number such that a child may count them.

¹³ Therefore this sin shall be to you as an open wall ready to fall and as a breach in a high defence, whose breaking comes suddenly at an instant.

³⁰ And the LORD shall cause the power of his voice to be heard and shall cause the lighting down of his arm to be seen, with the indignation of his countenance and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering and tempest and hailstones. ³¹ For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, which smote with a rod. ³² And in every evil place there shall be a staff that the LORD shall cause to lay upon him with tambourines and harps: and with the strength of heaven he will fight against her. ³³ For Tophet is ordained of yesterday for the king of Babylon, it is also prepared; he has deepened and enlarged the pile of her fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD like a stream of brimstone kindles it.

³⁶ Then the angel of the LORD went forth and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

³⁴ Thou didst see until a stone was cut out, not with hands, which smote the image upon its feet that were of iron and baked clay and broke them to pieces.

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings the God of heaven shall raise up a kingdom which eternally shall never become corrupted, and this kingdom shall not be left to another people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. ⁴⁵ In the manner which thou didst see that out of the mountain was cut one stone, not with hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has shown the king what shall come to pass hereafter; and the dream is true, and its interpretation sure.

³⁰ ¶ That same night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain.

⁶ Then he answered and spoke unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, said the LORD of the hosts.

⁶ And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go ye out to meet him.

²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast stored up?

²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him because he did not give God the glory, and he expired eaten of worms.

² For ye know well that the day of the Lord shall come as a thief in the night.

³ ¶ and in covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words, upon whom the condemnation from a long time ago does not delay, and their perdition does not sleep.

¹³ And she called the name of the LORD that spoke unto her, Thou God that is seen: for she said, Have I not also here seen the back of him that sees me?

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly, for from now on thou shalt have wars.

⁴ Does he not see my ways and count all my steps?

¹⁵ Samech The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he weighs all his goings.

³ ¶ The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding those who are evil and those who are good.

¹⁷ For my eyes are upon all their ways, which they have not hid from me, neither does their iniquity hide from the presence of my eyes.

¹⁰ I the LORD search the heart; I try the kidneys, even to give each man according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings.

⁸ Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are against the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, said the LORD.

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death redeem it; let a cloud dwell upon it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

¹⁷ For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death; if they are known, the terrors of the shadow of death come over them.

³ Is there no destruction for the wicked? And banishment for the workers of iniquity?

⁵ The foolish (those who are governed by carnal thoughts or desires) shall not stand in thy sight; thou dost hate all workers of iniquity.

¹¹ If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall shine because of me. ¹² Even the darkness does not hide from thee; but the night shines as the day; the darkness is as the light.

²⁹ ¶ The way of the LORD is strength to the perfect, but it is terror to the workers of iniquity.

² The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; those that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them has the light shined.

¹⁵ Woe unto those that hide themselves from the LORD, covering the counsel; and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who sees us? and who knows us?

²⁴ Can any hide himself in hiding places that I shall not see him? said the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? said the LORD.

² Though they dig unto Sheol, from there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, from there I will bring them down; ³ and though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out of there; and though they hide from my sight in the bottom of the sea, from there will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

²³ And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

²⁷ But he shall say unto you, I know you not from where ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

⁵ Therefore, judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall each one have praise of God.

¹³ Neither is there any created thing that is not manifested in his presence, but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him of whom we speak.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth and the princes and the rich and the captains and the strong and every slave and every free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains ¹⁶ and said to the mountains and to the rocks, Fall on us and hide us from the face of him that is seated upon the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb;

¹³ And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great guiltiness, seeing that thou our God hast intervened that we no longer be oppressed because of our iniquities and hast given us such an escape as this,

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together unto judgment. ³³ Neither is there any arbiter between us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

⁶ and that he would show thee the secrets of wisdom! For thou dost deserve double according to sound wisdom; and thou dost know that God has forgotten thee because of thine iniquity.

¹¹ For he knows the vain men; and he sees the iniquity; will he not then understand it?

²¹ O that a man might dispute with God, as he can with his neighbour!

⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; and should I escape for ever from the one who condemns me.

¹⁰ ¶ Therefore, hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity. ¹¹ For he shall pay man according to his work and cause every man to find according to his ways. ¹² Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

¹³⁷ ¶ TZADDI. Righteous art thou, O LORD, and upright are thy judgments.

³ He shall not break a bruised reed, nor shall he quench the smoking flax; he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

⁵ thus hath the LORD said, What iniquity have your fathers found in me that they are gone far from me and have walked after vanity and are become vain?

⁷ O Lord, the righteousness belongs unto thee, but unto us the confusion of face, as at this day; to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near and that are far off through all the lands where thou hast driven them because of their rebellion with which they have rebelled against thee. ⁸ O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. ⁹ Of the Lord our God is the ability to have mercy and to forgive, even though we have rebelled against him

²⁰ Rather, O man, who art thou to reply against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

³⁰ Therefore, the LORD God of Israel said, I had said indeed that thy house and the house of thy father should walk before me for ever, but now the LORD said, It shall never be; for those that honor me I will honor, and those that lightly esteem me shall be vile. ³¹ Behold, the days come that I will cut off thine arm and the arm of thy father’s house that there shall not be an old man in thy house. ³² And thou shalt see a competitor in my tabernacle in all the things in which I shall do good unto Israel, and there shall not be an old man in thy house for ever. ³³ I shall not totally cut off all thy men from my altar to consume thine eyes and to grieve thy soul, and all the increase of thy house shall die as young men. ³⁴ And this shall be a sign unto thee that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall both die. ³⁵ And I will raise me up a faithful priest that shall do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind, and I will build him a sure house, and he shall walk before my anointed {Heb. Messiah} for ever. ³⁶ And it shall come to pass that every one that is left in thy house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into some aspect of the priesthood that I may eat a piece of bread.

²⁸ And Samuel said unto him, The LORD has rent the kingdom of Israel from thee today and has given it to a neighbour of thine that is better than thou.

⁷ ¶ Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus hath the LORD God of Israel said, Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people and made thee prince over my people Israel, ⁸ and rent the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it thee, and yet thou hast not been as my slave David, who kept my commandments and who followed me with all his heart, to doing only that which was right in my eyes,

¹⁴ And the LORD shall raise up a king over Israel who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam in this day, but what if even now?

² How long will ye anguish my soul and break me in pieces with words?

⁹ Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

⁴ He shall judge the poor of the people; he shall save the children of the destitute and shall break in pieces the violent.

⁵ They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thy heritage.

⁷ He raises up the poor out of the dust and lifts the destitute out of the dunghill; ⁸ that he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

²⁰ Thou art my hammer, O weapons of war: for with thee I will break in pieces the Gentiles, and with thee I will destroy kingdoms; ²¹ and with thee I will break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with thee I will break in pieces the chariots and their riders; ²² with thee also I will break in pieces men and women; and with thee I will break in pieces old and young; and with thee I will break in pieces young men and virgins; ²³ I will also break in pieces with thee the shepherd and his flock; and with thee I will break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke of oxen; and with thee I will break in pieces dukes and princes.

²¹ and it is he that changes the times and the opportunities; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom unto the wise and knowledge unto those that know understanding:

³⁴ Thou didst see until a stone was cut out, not with hands, which smote the image upon its feet that were of iron and baked clay and broke them to pieces. ³⁵ Then was the iron, the baked clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold broken to pieces together and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away that no place was found for them again; and the stone that smote the image was made into a great mountain that filled the whole earth.

²⁸ PERES; Thy kingdom has been broken and is given to the Medes and Persians. ²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with purple and put a chain of gold about his neck and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. ³⁰ ¶ That same night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain. ³¹ And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being sixty-two years old.

²⁰ In a moment they shall die, and the peoples shall be troubled at midnight and shall pass away; and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

¹⁵ He fashioned all of their hearts; he considers all their works.

⁸ They all hold swords, being expert in war; each one has his sword upon his thigh because of the fears of the night.

¹ ¶ The burden of Moab. Certainly in the night Ar of Moab was laid waste and brought to silence; certainly in the night Kir of Moab was laid waste and brought to silence.

¹⁸ For I understand their works and their thoughts. The time shall come to gather all the Gentiles and tongues; and they shall come and see my glory.

² And they do not consider in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness; now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face.

⁷ The LORD has sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened; which is the book of life; and the dead were judged by those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

³⁰ Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.

⁹ but thou must kill him; thy hand shall be first upon him to put him to death and afterwards the hand of all the people. ¹⁰ And thou must stone him with stones, and he shall die because he has sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt from the house of slavery; ¹¹ so that all Israel shall hear and fear and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

²¹ Then all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, and he shall die; so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear and fear.

¹¹ Thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thy own house, and I will take thy wives before thy eyes and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For thou hast done it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun.

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. ¹¹ So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous; verily there is a God that judges in the earth.

²⁴ And they shall go forth and look upon the carcasses of the men that rebelled against me; for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

²⁰ Those that persist in sin rebuke before all, that the others may also fear.

²⁴ Some men’s sins are manifest beforehand, before they come unto judgment, but to others they follow after.

⁹ ¶ And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her and lament for her when they shall see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city; for in one hour is thy judgment come!

²⁰ Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye saints, apostles, and prophets; for God has judged your cause upon her.

¹¹ It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king, for he has turned back from following me and has not performed my commandments. And it incensed Samuel, and he cried unto the LORD all night.

⁵ Because they do not regard the works of the LORD nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them and not build them up.

⁴³ Who is wise and will observe these things and shall understand the mercies of the LORD?

⁵ As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall take them away with the workers of iniquity; and peace shall be upon Israel.

²⁹ Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD: ³⁰ They rejected my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

³ The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master’s crib; but Israel does not know, my people do not have understanding.

¹² And the harp and the viol, the tambourine and flutes and wine are in their feasts; but they do not regard the work of the LORD, nor consider the work of his hands.

⁶ and those that have turned back from following the LORD and those that did not seek the LORD, nor enquired about him.

¹⁵ And now, I pray you, consider in your heart from this day forth, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD: ¹⁶ since these things were: when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten; when one came to the pressfat to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty. ¹⁷ I smote you with the east wind and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands, yet ye did not turn to me, said the LORD. ¹⁸ Consider now in your heart from this day forth, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid, put your heart into it. ¹⁹ Is not the seed yet in the barn? Not even the vine, nor the fig tree, nor the pomegranate, nor the olive tree, has blossomed yet, but from this day will I bless you.

³¹ In that day, he who shall be upon the housetop and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away; and he that is in the field, let him likewise not turn back. ³² Remember Lot’s wife.

³⁸ But Paul thought it not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia and did not go with them to the work.

¹⁰ for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

³⁹ But we are not of those who draw back unto perdition, but faithful unto the saving of the soul.

²³ ¶ And it came to pass in process of time that the king of Egypt died, and the sons of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God from their bondage. ²⁴ And God heard their groaning and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

⁷ ¶ And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

⁹ Therefore, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has now come before me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

²³ If thou afflict them in any manner, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; ²⁴ and my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless. ²⁵ ¶ If thou should lend money to my people, to the poor who is with thee, thou shalt not be to him as a usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury. ²⁶ If thou at all take thy neighbour’s clothing as a pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him before the sun goes down; ²⁷ for only that is his covering, it is his clothing to cover his flesh, in which he must sleep; and it shall come to pass, when he cries unto me, that I will hear, for I am merciful.

⁹ Thou hast sent the widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore, snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubles thee

¹² Men groan from out of the city, and the souls of the dead cry out; yet God did not hinder them.

¹² because I delivered the poor that cried and the fatherless who had no one to help him. ¹³ The blessing of the one that was ready to perish came upon me; and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

¹⁹ if I have seen any perish for want of clothing or any needy without a covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

⁹ ¶ By reason of the great violence they shall call out; they cry out because of the strength of the many.

⁵ For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now I will arise, saith the LORD; I will set in safety the one whom the wicked one has ensnared.

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of the hosts is the house of Israel and every man of Judah his pleasant plant; and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies around him,

⁹ ¶ And in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hosea, son of Elah, king of Israel, Shalmaneser, king of Assyria, came up against Samaria and besieged it. ¹⁰ And at the end of three years, they took it; even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is the ninth year of Hosea, king of Israel, Samaria was taken. ¹¹ And the king of Assyria carried away Israel unto Assyria and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan and in the cities of the Medes: ¹² because they had not hearkened unto the voice of the LORD their God, but had broken his covenant and all that Moses, the slave of the LORD, commanded and would not hear them nor do them.

¹⁴ Moreover, all the princes of the priests and the people increased the rebellion, rebelling according to all the abominations of the Gentiles and polluting the house of the LORD which he had sanctified in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by the hand of his messengers, rising up early, and sending because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his words and misused his prophets until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, and there was no remedy. ¹⁷ Therefore, he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age; he gave them all into his hands.

¹⁴ Behold, he shall break down, and it shall not be built again; he shall shut up a man, and no one shall be able to open unto him.

⁸ ¶ Behold, I shall go to the east and not find him; and to the west, but I cannot perceive him; ⁹ if he is working to the north, I shall not see him; to the south, he hides himself, that I shall not see him.

¹³ ¶ But if he determines something, who can turn him? His soul desired it, and he did it.

¹ ¶ Moreover, Job continued his parable and said, ² Oh, that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me; ³ when his lamp shone upon my head, and by its light I walked in the darkness;

¹ To the Overcomer,
A Psalm of David. ¶ How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

⁹ Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy slave away in anger: thou hast been my help; do not leave me or forsake me, O God of my saving health.

⁷ LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong; thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.

⁷ ¶ Hear me speedily, O LORD; my spirit fails; hide not thy face from me lest I be like those that go down into the grave.

³ And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow and from thy fear and from the hard bondage in which thou wast made to serve, ⁴ ¶ that thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon and say, How has the oppressor ceased! The city that covets gold has ceased! ⁵ The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked and the sceptre of the rulers ⁶ who smote the peoples in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the Gentiles in anger and who did not defend the persecuted. ⁷ The whole earth is at rest and is quiet; they sing praises. ⁸ Even the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.

³ Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusts in thee.

¹⁷ And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness rest and security for ever.

⁸ And it shall come to pass, that the people and the kingdom which will not serve Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that people I will visit, saith the LORD, with the sword and with the famine and with the pestilence, until I have finished placing all of them under his hand.

²⁷ Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

³¹ ¶ What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who shall be against us? ³² He that did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also give us all things with him? ³³ Who shall accuse the chosen of God’s? God is he that justifies them. ³⁴ Who is he that condemns them? Christ, Jesus, is he who died and, even more, he that also rose again, who furthermore is at the right hand of God, who also makes entreaty for us.

⁷ And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

²⁸ And having taken counsel, the king made two calves of gold and said unto the people, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. ²⁹ And he set the one in Bethel and the other he put in Dan. ³⁰ And this became an occasion for sin, for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.

⁹ But they did not hearken, and Manasseh caused them to err and to do more evil than did the Gentiles whom the LORD destroyed before the sons of Israel.

²¹ For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he sees all his steps.

⁸ The wicked press in on every side when the vilest men are exalted.

² ¶ When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked bear rule, the people mourn. ³ ¶ Whosoever loves wisdom causes his father to rejoice, but he that maintains harlots shall lose his inheritance. ⁴ ¶ The king by judgment establishes the land, but he that receives gifts shall overthrow it. ⁵ ¶ The man that flatters his neighbour spreads a net for his feet. ⁶ ¶ In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare, but the righteous shall sing and rejoice. ⁷ ¶ The righteous considers the cause of the poor, but the wicked does not understand wisdom. ⁸ ¶ Scornful men bring a city into a snare, but wise men turn away wrath. ⁹ ¶ If a wise man contends with a foolish man, whether he rages or laughs, there is no rest. ¹⁰ ¶ The bloodthirsty hate the perfect, but the just seek his soul. ¹¹ ¶ The fool gives full rein to his spirit, but the wise man in the end will bring it into rest. ¹² ¶ Of the ruler who hearkens unto the lying word, all his ministers are evil.

¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

¹¹ Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment because he wanted to walk after commandments.

¹¹ I gave thee a king in my anger and took him away in my wrath.

¹⁶ For the statutes of Omri have been kept and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye have walked in their counsels that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

⁴ opposing and exalting himself against all that is called God, or divinity, so that he as God sits in the temple of God, making himself appear to be God. ⁵ Remember ye not, that when I was yet with you, I told you these things? ⁶ And ye know what impedes this now, that he might be revealed in his time. ⁷ For the mystery of iniquity is already working, except that he who dominates now will dominate until he is taken out of the way. ⁸ And then shall that Wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of his mouth and remove with the clarity of his coming: ⁹ that wicked one, who shall come by the working of Satan with great power and signs and lying miracles, ¹⁰ and with all deception of iniquity working in those that perish because they did not receive the charity of the truth, to be saved. ¹¹ Therefore, for this cause, God shall send the operation of error in them, that they should believe the lie;

³ And I saw one of its heads as it were wounded to death; and its deadly wound was healed; and all the earth marveled, and followed the beast. ⁴ And they worshipped the dragon which had given the authority unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast; saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with it?

¹¹ ¶ Then I beheld another beast coming up out of the land; and he had two horns like the Lamb, but he spoke as the dragon. ¹² And he exercised all the power of the first beast in its presence and caused the earth and those that dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. ¹³ And he does great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven to the earth in the sight of men ¹⁴ and deceives those that dwell on the earth by those signs which were given unto him to do in the presence of the beast, commanding those that dwell on the earth to make an image of the beast, which has the wound by the sword, and did live.

⁴¹ and that I also have walked contrary unto them and have brought them into the land of their enemies; and then their uncircumcised hearts shall be humbled, and they shall plead because of their iniquity;

¹³ And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great guiltiness, seeing that thou our God hast intervened that we no longer be oppressed because of our iniquities and hast given us such an escape as this, ¹⁴ should we again break thy commandments and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? Would thou not be angry with us until thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escape?

³³ Howbeit thou art just in all that has come upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly; ³⁴ neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law nor hearkened unto thy commandments and thy testimonies, with which thou didst testify against them. ³⁵ For they did not serve thee in their kingdom and in thy great goodness that thou didst give them and in the large and fat land which thou didst deliver before them; neither did they turn from their wicked works. ³⁶ Behold, we are slaves this day, behold us here, slaves in the land which thou didst give unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof. ³⁷ And it multiplies its fruit for the kings, whom thou hast set over us because of our sins, who have dominion over our bodies and over our cattle, according to their will, and we are in great distress. ³⁸ And because of all this, we make a sure covenant and write it; and our princes, Levites, and priests seal unto it.

²⁷ He looks upon men, and if any say, I have sinned and perverted that which was right, and it did not profit me;

³ Then Job answered the LORD and said, ⁴ Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay my hand over my mouth. ⁵ Once I have spoken; but I will not answer; even twice, but I will proceed no further.

⁶ Therefore, I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.

¹⁸ ¶ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus, Thou hast afflicted me, and I was chastised as an indomitable bullock: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art the LORD my God. ¹⁹ Surely after I was turned, I repented; and after I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh; I was ashamed, and even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.

⁷ O Lord, the righteousness belongs unto thee, but unto us the confusion of face, as at this day; to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near and that are far off through all the lands where thou hast driven them because of their rebellion with which they have rebelled against thee. ⁸ O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. ⁹ Of the Lord our God is the ability to have mercy and to forgive, even though we have rebelled against him ¹⁰ and have not listened to the voice of the LORD our God to walk by his laws, which he set before us by the hand of his slaves the prophets. ¹¹ And all Israel transposed thy law, departing by not hearing thy voice; by which the curse has fallen upon us and the oath that is written in the law of Moses, the slave of God, because we have sinned against him. ¹² And he has confirmed his words, which he spoke over us and over our judges that governed us, by bringing upon us such a great evil: that such has never been done under the whole heaven as has been done upon Jerusalem. ¹³ As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us, and we never sought the face of the LORD our God, that we might be converted from our iniquities, and understand thy truth. ¹⁴ And the LORD hastened upon the chastisement and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is just in all his works which he has done, for we did not listen to his voice.

⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD because I have sinned against him, until he has judged my cause and executed my judgment; he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

² I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; cause me to understand why thou dost contend with me.

¹¹ who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

¹² Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

⁴ Daleth Show me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. ⁵ He Cause me to walk in thy truth and teach me: for thou art the God of my saving health; I have waited for thee all the day.

⁸ I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will fix mine eyes upon thee.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts ²⁴ and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way eternal.

⁸ Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning, for in thee do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul unto thee. ⁹ Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies; I flee unto thee. ¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God. Let thy good Spirit lead me into the land of uprightness.

¹³ ¶ He that covers his sins shall not prosper, but whosoever confesses and forsakes them shall attain mercy.

⁸ Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. ⁹ And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees; every tree therefore which does not bring forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire. ¹⁰ And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then? ¹¹ He answered and said unto them, He that has two coats, let him impart to him that has none; and he that has food, let him do likewise. ¹² Then the publicans also came to be baptized and said unto him, Master, what shall we do? ¹³ And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. ¹⁴ And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Oppress no one, neither accuse anyone falsely; and be content with your wages.

²² that ye put off everything concerning the old way of life, that is, the old man who corrupts himself according to deceitful desires,

²⁵ Therefore, leaving the lie, speak every man truth with his neighbour, for we are members one of another. ²⁶ Be ye angry and sin not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath, ²⁷ neither give place to the devil. ²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labour, working with his hands that which is good, that he may have to give to him that is in need.

¹² Behold, he shall take away, who can cause him to restore? Who shall say unto him, What doest thou?

³¹ He shall not be established; in vanity he shall err; therefore, he shall be changed into vanity.

⁴ O thou that dost tear thy soul in thine anger; shall the earth be forsaken because of thee and shall the rocks be removed out of their place?

⁵ If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.

³² If thou hast anything to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify thee.

¹¹ For he shall pay man according to his work and cause every man to find according to his ways.

¹¹ ¶ Who has preceded me, that I should repay him? All that is under the whole heaven is mine.

³⁰ If his sons forsake my law and do not walk in my judgments, ³¹ if they profane my statutes and do not keep my commandments, ³² then I will visit their rebellion with the rod and their iniquity with stripes.

⁶ Whatever the LORD desired, he did in the heavens and in the earth, in the seas and in all the deep places.

³¹ ¶ The righteous shall certainly be recompensed in the earth; how much more the wicked and the sinner!

⁹ Woe unto him that strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashions it, What doth thou make; thy work has no form?

¹² saying, These last have worked but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us who have borne the burden and heat of the day. ¹³ But he answered one of them and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong; didst not thou agree with me for a denarius? ¹⁴ Take that which is thine and go, for I desire to give unto this last one, even as unto thee. ¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good?

³⁵ Or who has first given unto him, that it be recompensed unto him again?

⁶ seeing it is a just thing with God to recompense tribulation to those that trouble you ⁷ and to give you, who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with the angels of his power,

² For if the word spoken by the ministry of angels was steadfast and every rebellion and disobedience received a just recompense of reward,

²⁶ esteeming the reproach of the Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.

² Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

⁴ Let us choose our judgment; let us know among ourselves what is good.

¹⁰ ¶ Therefore, hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

¹⁶ ¶ If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.

² As you know it, I know it; I am not inferior unto you.

² Should a wise man utter vain knowledge and fill his belly with the east wind?

¹⁶ therefore, Job opened his mouth in vain and multiplied words without knowledge.

² Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

³ Who is he that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore, I have denounced that which I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.

⁶ ¶ The tents of robbers are at ease, and those that provoke God and those who carry gods in their hands live secure.

⁷ ¶ Why do the wicked live and become old and even increase in riches?

¹⁶ For God has made my heart tender, and the Almighty has frightened me.

¹ ¶ Why, seeing that times are not hidden from the Almighty, do those that know him not see his days?

⁸ Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men. ⁹ For he said, It shall profit a man nothing that he should conform his will with God.

³ Thou hast proved my heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast refined me and hast found no iniquity; that which I thought did not pass through my mouth.

² Examine me, O LORD and prove me; melt my kidneys and my heart.

¹¹ Behold, we count blessed those who endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very merciful, and full of compassion.

²³ For rebellion is the sin of witchcraft, and to break the word of the Lord is iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected thee from being king.

² How long wilt thou speak such things and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind? ³ Shall God pervert that which is right or shall the Almighty pervert justice?

² Should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be justified? ³ Should thy lies make men be silent? Shalt thou mock, and shall no man make thee ashamed?

² Today I will also speak with bitterness; my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and from his place they shall hiss at him.

² Dost thou think this to be right, when thou didst say, I am more righteous than God? ³ For thou didst say, What advantage will it be unto thee? And, What profit shall I have, if I am cleansed from my sin?

⁷ ¶ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz, the Temanite, My wrath has been kindled against thee, and against thy two friends; for ye have not spoken by me in uprightness, as my slave Job has.

¹⁹ If ye are willing and hearken, ye shall eat the good of the land; ²⁰ But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.
