¹ ¶ The first of the sabbaths, Mary Magdalene came early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre and saw the stone taken away from the sepulchre. ² Then she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. ³ Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. ⁴ So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came first to the sepulchre. ⁵ And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet he did not go in. ⁶ Then came Simon Peter following him and went into the sepulchre and saw the linen clothes lying ⁷ and the napkin, that had been placed over his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. ⁸ Then that other disciple, who came first to the sepulchre, went in also and he saw and believed. ⁹ For as yet they did not know the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead. ¹⁰ Then the disciples went away again unto their own. ¹¹ ¶ But Mary stood outside near the sepulchre weeping, and as she wept, she stooped down and looked into the sepulchre ¹² and saw two angels in white sitting, the one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been placed. ¹³ And they said unto her, Woman, why dost thou weep? She said unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. ¹⁴ And when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there and did not know that it was Jesus. ¹⁵ Jesus said unto her, Woman, why dost thou weep? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, said unto him, Lord, if thou didst carry him off, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. ¹⁶ Jesus said unto her, Mary! Turning herself around, she said unto him, Rabboni, which is to say, Master. ¹⁷ Jesus said unto her, Touch me not, for I have not yet ascended to my Father; but go to my brethren and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father and your Father, and to my God and your God. ¹⁸ Mary Magdalene came giving the news to the disciples, That I have seen the Lord, and he spoke these things unto me. ¹⁹ ¶ Then the same day at evening, being the first of the sabbaths, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said unto them, Peace be unto you. ²⁰ And having said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. ²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, Peace be unto you; as my Father has sent me, even so send I you. ²² And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said unto them, Receive ye the Holy Spirit; ²³ unto those whose sins ye release, they shall be released; and unto those whose sins ye retain, they shall be retained. ²⁴ But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵ The other disciples, therefore, said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Unless I shall see in his hands the print of the nails and put my finger into the print of the nails and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. ²⁶ ¶ And again eight days later, his disciples were within and Thomas with them; then Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst and said, Peace be unto you. ²⁷ Then he said to Thomas, Reach here thy finger and behold my hands and reach here thy hand and thrust it into my side and be not unbelieving, but faithful. ²⁸ And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. ²⁹ Jesus said unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed; blessed are those that have not seen and yet have believed. ³⁰ And Jesus truly did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book; ³¹ but these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life in his name.

⁶⁰ and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock, and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre and departed.

⁶⁴ Command therefore that the sepulchre be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night and steal him away and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead; so the last error shall be worse than the first.

⁴⁶ And he bought fine linen and took him down and wrapped him in the linen and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

¹ ¶ And when the sabbath of the great feast of the passover was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James, and Salome had bought sweet spices that they might come and anoint him. ² And very early in the morning the first of the sabbaths, they come unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. ³ And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? ⁴ And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away, for it was very great. ⁵ And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting to the right hand side, covered in a long white garment; and they were frightened.

⁹ ¶ Now as Jesus rose early the first of the sabbaths, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

¹ ¶ Now upon the first of the sabbaths, very early in the morning they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. ² And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. ³ And they entered in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. ⁴ And it came to pass as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments; ⁵ and as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? ⁶ He is not here, but is risen; remember how he spoke unto you when he was yet in Galilee, ⁷ saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day rise again. ⁸ Then they remembered his words ⁹ and returned from the sepulchre and told all these things unto the eleven and to all the rest. ¹⁰ It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and other women that were with them who told these things unto the apostles.

²⁵ Now there stood by the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} of Jesus his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

¹⁸ Mary Magdalene came giving the news to the disciples, That I have seen the Lord, and he spoke these things unto me. ¹⁹ ¶ Then the same day at evening, being the first of the sabbaths, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said unto them, Peace be unto you.

²⁶ ¶ And again eight days later, his disciples were within and Thomas with them; then Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst and said, Peace be unto you.

⁷ ¶ And the first of the sabbaths, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart the next day, and continued his word until midnight.

² Each first sabbath let each one of you set aside in store, as God has prospered him, that there be no collections when I come.

¹⁰ I was in the Spirit in the day of the Lord and heard behind me a great voice as of a trumpet,

⁶³ saying, Lord, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. ⁶⁴ Command therefore that the sepulchre be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night and steal him away and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead; so the last error shall be worse than the first.

²³ And one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was seated at the table beside Jesus.

²⁶ When Jesus therefore saw his mother and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he said unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

⁹ For as yet they did not know the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

¹³ And they said unto her, Woman, why dost thou weep? She said unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

¹⁵ Jesus said unto her, Woman, why dost thou weep? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, said unto him, Lord, if thou didst carry him off, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

⁷ Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him (for he was naked) and cast himself into the sea.

²⁰ ¶ Then Peter, turning about, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrays thee?

²⁴ This is the disciple who testifies of these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.

¹² But Peter arose and ran unto the sepulchre, and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

³⁰ then the priest shall see the plague; and if it looks deeper than the skin and the hair in it is yellowish and thin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a dry scall, leprosy of the head or beard.

²³ But, said he, let me run, be what may. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain and overran Cushi.

²⁴ ¶ Know ye not that those who run in a race indeed all run, but one receives the prize? So run, that ye may obtain it.

¹² For if there is first a willing desire, it is accepted according to what a person has and not according to what they do not have.

⁴⁴ Then he that had been dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus said unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

⁴⁰ And they took the body of Jesus and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as is the manner of the Jews to bury.

¹¹ ¶ But Mary stood outside near the sepulchre weeping, and as she wept, she stooped down and looked into the sepulchre

¹⁵ He said unto them, But who say ye that I am? ¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

³¹ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat; ³² but I have prayed for thee that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

⁶⁷ Then Jesus said unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? ⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. ⁶⁹ And we believe and know that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

¹⁷ Then the damsel that kept the door said unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He said, I am not.

²⁵ And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it and said, I am not. ²⁶ One of the slaves of the high priest, kinsman of the one whose ear Peter had cut off, said, Did I not see thee in the garden with him? ²⁷ Peter then denied again, and immediately the cock crew.

¹⁵ ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He said unto him, Yes, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my lambs. ¹⁶ He said to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He said unto him, Yes, Lord thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my sheep. ¹⁷ He said unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus said unto him, Feed my sheep.

⁵⁰ Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

⁴ So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came first to the sepulchre.

²⁵ The other disciples, therefore, said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Unless I shall see in his hands the print of the nails and put my finger into the print of the nails and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

²⁹ Jesus said unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed; blessed are those that have not seen and yet have believed.

¹⁰ For thou wilt not leave my soul in Sheol; neither wilt thou suffer thy Merciful One to see corruption.

¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

²² ¶ I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee. ²³ Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel. ²⁴ For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the poor in spirit; neither has he hid his face from him, but when he cried unto him, he heard. ²⁵ My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before those that fear him. ²⁶ The poor shall eat and be satisfied: those that seek him shall praise the LORD; your heart shall live for ever. ²⁷ All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto the LORD; and all the families of the Gentiles shall worship before thee. ²⁸ For the kingdom is the LORD’s, and he shall have dominion over the Gentiles. ²⁹ All those that are fat upon earth shall eat and worship; all those that go down to the dust shall bow before him; and no one can keep his own soul alive. ³⁰ A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. ³¹ They shall come and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he has done this.

⁸ He will destroy death forever; and the Lord GOD shall wipe away every tear from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people he shall take away from off all the earth: for the LORD has determined it.

¹⁹ Thy dead shall live, and together with my body they shall arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the covering of light, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

¹⁰ ¶ With all this the LORD chose to bruise him; subjecting him to grief. When he shall have offered his soul for atonement, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the will of the LORD shall be prospered in his hand. ¹¹ He shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied. And by his knowledge shall my righteous slave justify many, for he shall bear their iniquities. ¹² Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil unto the strong because he has poured out his soul unto death, and he was numbered with the rebellious, having born the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

¹⁴ I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from death; O death, I will be thy end; O Sheol, I will be thy destruction. Repentance shall be hid from my eyes.

²¹ ¶ From that time forth Jesus began to declare unto his disciples, how it was expedient for him to go unto Jerusalem and to suffer many things of the elders and the princes of the priests and of the scribes and to be killed and to be raised again the third day. ²² Then Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him, saying, Lord, be it far from thee; in no wise shall this happen unto thee.

²⁹ Then Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God.

³¹ And he began to teach them that it was convenient that the Son of man must suffer many things and be rejected of the elders and of the princes of the priests and of the scribes, and be killed and after three days rise again. ³² And he spoke this word clearly. Then Peter took him and began to rebuke him. ³³ And he, turning about and looking at his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, Get thyself from me, Satan, for thou knowest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.

⁹ And as they came down from the mountain, he commanded them that they should tell no one what things they had seen until the Son of man was risen from the dead. ¹⁰ And they kept the word within themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should be.

³¹ For he went on teaching his disciples and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after he is dead, he shall rise the third day. ³² But they did not understand this word and were afraid to ask him.

⁴⁵ But they did not understand this word, and it was hid from them that they should not understand, and they feared to ask him regarding this.

³³ and they shall scourge him and put him to death, but the third day he shall rise again. ³⁴ And they understood none of these things, and this word was hid from them, and they did not know what was said.

²⁶ ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter (like this) into his glory?

⁴⁴ And he said unto them, These are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses and in the prophets and in the psalms, concerning me. ⁴⁵ Then he opened their understanding that they might understand the scriptures ⁴⁶ and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day;

²² Therefore when he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture and the word which Jesus had said.

²⁵ For David speaks concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved, ²⁶ therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover even my flesh shall rest in hope ²⁷ because thou wilt not leave my soul in Hades, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. ²⁸ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. ²⁹ Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. ³⁰ Therefore being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne; ³¹ he, seeing this before, spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that his soul was not left in Hades, neither did his flesh see corruption. ³² This Jesus God has raised up, of whom we all are witnesses.

²⁹ And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a sepulchre. ³⁰ But God raised him from the dead, ³¹ and he was seen many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who until now are his witnesses unto the people. ³² And we declare unto you the gospel of the promise which was made unto the fathers, ³³ which God has fulfilled unto us their children, in that he has raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. ³⁴ And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said this, I will give you the sure mercies promised to David. ³⁵ Therefore he also says in another place, Thou shalt not suffer thy Holy One to see corruption. ³⁶ For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep and was gathered unto his fathers and saw corruption; ³⁷ but he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

⁴ and that he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures

⁵³ And each one went unto his own house.

³² Behold, the hour comes and is now come, that ye shall be scattered, each one to his own, and shall leave me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

⁵ And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet he did not go in.

¹² and the Levite singers, all of those of Asaph, those of Heman, and those of Jeduthun, together with their sons and their brethren, being clothed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them one hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets).

⁹ ¶ I beheld until thrones were placed, and an Elder of great age did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool: his throne a flame of fire, his wheels burning fire.

² and [he] was transfigured before them, and his face shined as the sun, and his raiment was as white as the light.

² And, behold, there was a great earthquake, for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and sat upon it. ³ His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow; ⁴ and for fear of him the guards shook and became as dead men. ⁵ And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye, for I know that ye seek Jesus, who was crucified.

⁵ And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting to the right hand side, covered in a long white garment; and they were frightened. ⁶ But he said unto them, Do not be frightened; Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified; he is risen; he is not here; behold the place where they laid him.

²² Although also certain women of our company made us astonished, who before daybreak were at the sepulchre; ²³ and when they did not find his body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.

¹⁰ And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel,

⁴ Yet thou hast a few persons in Sardis who have not defiled their garments, and they shall walk with me in white, for they are worthy.

¹⁴ And I said unto him, lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are those who came out of great tribulation and have washed their long robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

⁸ Then Elkanah, her husband, said to her, Hannah, why dost thou weep? And why dost thou not eat? And why is thy heart grieved? Am I not better to thee than ten sons?

³ O send out thy light and thy truth; let them lead me; let them bring me unto the mountain of thy holiness and to thy tabernacles. ⁴ Then I will enter in to the altar of God, unto the God of my exceeding joy; yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God. ⁵ Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? Wait for God, for I shall yet praise him, who is the saving health of my countenance and my God.

⁴ a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

¹⁶ Thus hath the LORD said; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears; for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.

¹⁷ And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another as ye walk and are sad?

⁴ Jesus said unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? My hour is not yet come.

²⁷ Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ²⁸ ¶ Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice because I said, I go unto the Father; for my Father is greater than I.

⁶ But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow has filled your heart. ⁷ ¶ Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, and the world shall rejoice; but even though ye shall be sorrowful, your sorrow shall be turned into joy. ²¹ The woman, when she is in travail, has pain, because her hour is come; but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers the anguish no more, for joy that a man is born into the world. ²² And ye now therefore have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and no one shall take your joy from you.

² Then she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

¹³ Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

³ The watchmen that go about the city found me, to whom I said, Have ye seen him whom my soul loves? ⁴ It was but a little that I passed from them that I found him whom my soul loves: I held him and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house and into the chamber of her that brought me into the light.

⁹ And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, Receive joy. And they came and held him by the feet and worshipped him.

¹² After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked and went into the country.

³⁰ But he, passing through the midst of them, went away.

¹⁶ But their eyes were held fast that they should not know him.

³¹ And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.

⁵⁹ Then they took up stones to cast at him, but Jesus concealed himself and went out of the temple, and going through the midst of them, went away.

⁴ But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not understand that it was Jesus.

¹⁶ Do not count thy handmaid for a daughter of Belial, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have waited until now to speak.

² I will rise now and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but I did not find him.

¹ ¶ Where has thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among women? where didst thy beloved separate himself? that we may seek him with thee.

³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

⁵ And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye, for I know that ye seek Jesus, who was crucified.

⁶ But he said unto them, Do not be frightened; Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified; he is risen; he is not here; behold the place where they laid him.

⁵ and as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

³⁸ Then Jesus turned and saw them following and said unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Master), where dwellest thou?

⁴ Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?

⁷ Then he asked them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass after these things that God proved Abraham and said unto him, Abraham; and he said, Behold, here I am.

¹¹ ¶ Then the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven and said, Abraham, Abraham; and he said, Here am I.

¹² And, behold, your eyes see and the eyes of my brother Benjamin that it is my mouth that speaks unto you.

⁴ And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

¹⁷ And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken because thou hast found grace in my sight, and I have known thee by name.

⁶ And the LORD called Samuel yet again. And Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, Here am I, for thou didst call me. And he answered, I did not call, my son; lie down again.

¹⁰ And the LORD came and stood and called as at the other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy slave hears.

⁸ ¶ The voice of my beloved! behold, he comes leaping over the mountains, skipping over the hills. ⁹ My beloved is like a roe or a young hart; behold, he stands behind our wall; he looks through the windows, blossoming through the lattice. ¹⁰ My beloved spoke and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. ¹¹ For, behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone; ¹² the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the song is come, and the voice of the turtle dove has been heard in our land; ¹³ the fig tree has put forth her green figs, and the vines in blossom have given forth their fragrance. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away. ¹⁴ ¶ O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is beautiful. ¹⁵ Hunt the foxes for us, the little foxes, that spoil the vines; for our vines are in blossom. ¹⁶ My beloved is mine, and I am his; he feeds among the lilies. ¹⁷ Until the day breaks and the shadows flee away, return, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.

⁴ It was but a little that I passed from them that I found him whom my soul loves: I held him and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house and into the chamber of her that brought me into the light.

² ¶ I sleep, but my heart watches for the voice of my beloved that knocks at the door, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my perfect one: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.

¹ ¶ But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Do not fear, for I have redeemed thee, I have named thee; Thou art mine.

²⁷ But straightway Jesus spoke unto them, saying, Trust that I AM; be not afraid.

⁷ and greetings in the markets and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. ⁸ But, as for you, desire not to be called Rabbi, for one is your Master, the Christ; and you are all brothers. ⁹ And call no one your father upon the earth, for one is your Father, who is in the heavens. ¹⁰ Neither be ye called masters, for one is your Master, the Christ.

⁴¹ And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things;

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and said unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

² the same came to Jesus by night and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that thou doest unless God is with him.

² Now in Jerusalem there is a pool by the sheep gate, which in Hebrew is called, Bethesda, having five porches.

²⁵ And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when didst thou come here?

³ To him the porter opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

²⁸ And having said this, she went away and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calls for thee.

¹³ Ye call me Master and Lord; and ye say well, for so I am.

²⁸ And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

⁴ and falling to the earth, he heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why dost thou persecute me?

³ He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him and saying unto him, Cornelius.

⁷ ¶ And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee. ⁸ And I will give unto thee and to thy seed after thee, the land in which thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting inheritance; and I will be their God.

²⁹ Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins and take my staff in thy hand and go; if thou meet anyone, salute him not; and if anyone salutes thee, answer him not again, and lay my staff upon the face of the child.

⁹ Then they said one to another, We do not well; this day is a day to give good tidings, and we are silent; if we tarry until the morning light, we shall be taken in the iniquity. Now, therefore, come, that we may enter in and give the news in the king’s house.

²² ¶ I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee.

⁴ Then I will enter in to the altar of God, unto the God of my exceeding joy; yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.

¹⁴ For this God is our God eternally and for ever; he will be our guide even unto death.

¹⁸ Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive; thou hast received gifts for men, yea, for the rebellious also that the LORD God might dwell among them.

²⁶ He shall call me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my saving health.

¹⁰ ¶ Do not fear for I am with thee; do not be dismayed, for I am thy God, who strengthens thee; I will help thee always; I will always uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

³³ But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, said the LORD, I will give my law in their souls and write it in their hearts and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

³⁸ and they shall be my people, and I will be their God:

²⁸ And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

²⁷ And my tabernacle shall be in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

⁷ ¶ Awake, O sword, upon the pastor and upon the man that is my fellow, said the LORD of the hosts; smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones. ⁸ And it shall come to pass that in all the land, said the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off in her and shall be lost; but the third shall be left therein. ⁹ And I will put the third part into the fire and will refine them as silver is refined and will try them as gold is tried; He shall call on my name, and I will hear him; I will say, My people, and he shall say, The LORD is my God.

⁵⁰ For whosoever shall do the will of my Father who is in the heavens, the same is my brother and sister and mother.

⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers, ye have done it unto me.

⁷ And go quickly and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goes before you into Galilee; there ye shall see him; behold, I have told you.

⁹ And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, Receive joy. And they came and held him by the feet and worshipped him. ¹⁰ Then Jesus said unto them, Be not afraid; go tell my brothers that they may go into Galilee, and there they shall see me.

¹⁹ ¶ So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven and sat at the right hand of God.

⁴ Carry neither purse nor provision bag nor shoes, and greet no one on the way.

⁴⁹ And, behold, I shall send the promise of my Father upon you, but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye are endued with power from on high. ⁵⁰ ¶ And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands and blessed them. ⁵¹ And it came to pass while he blessed them, he was parted from them and carried up into heaven.

¹² But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become sons of God, even to them that believe on his name, ¹³ who are not born of blood, nor of the will of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

³³ Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while I shall be with you, and then I shall go unto him that sent me.

¹ ¶ Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

³ Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God and was going to God,

² In my Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

⁶ Jesus said unto him, I AM the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes unto the Father, but by me.

²⁸ ¶ Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice because I said, I go unto the Father; for my Father is greater than I.

²⁸ ¶ I came forth from the Father and am come into the world; again, I leave the world and go to the Father.

⁵ And now, O Father, clarify thou me with thine own self with that clarity which I had with thee before the world was.

¹¹ ¶ And now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, those whom thou hast given me, keep them in thy name, that they may be one, as we are.

²⁵ O righteous Father, the world has not known thee; but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

²⁷ Then he said to Thomas, Reach here thy finger and behold my hands and reach here thy hand and thrust it into my side and be not unbelieving, but faithful.

¹⁴ For all that are led by the Spirit of God, the same are sons of God. ¹⁵ For ye have not received the spirit of slavery to be in fear again, but ye have received the Spirit of adoption of sons, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. ¹⁶ For the same Spirit bears witness unto our spirit that we are sons of God, ¹⁷ ¶ and if sons, also heirs certainly of God and joint-heirs with Christ, if so be that we suffer with him that we may be also glorified together with him.

²⁹ ¶ For unto those whom he knew beforehand, he also marked out beforehand the way that they might be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

¹⁸ and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

²⁶ For ye are all sons of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

⁶ And because ye are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father; ⁷ therefore, thou art no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; ¹⁸ illuminating the eyes of your understanding, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints ¹⁹ and what is the exceeding greatness of his power in us who believe, by the operation of the power of his strength, ²⁰ which operated in the Christ, raising him from the dead and setting him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, ²¹ far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come, ²² And has put all things under his feet and gave him to be the head over all things to the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, ²³ which is his body, and he is the fullness of her: who fills all things in everyone.

⁸ Therefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive and gave gifts unto men. ⁹ (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? ¹⁰ He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all the heavens, that he might fulfill all things.)

¹¹ For both he that sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all of one, for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, ¹² saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee. ¹³ And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God has given me.

¹⁰ For this is the testament that I will ordain to the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord: I will give my laws into their soul and write them upon their hearts, and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

¹⁶ But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one; therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

³ ¶ Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, the Christ, who according to his great mercy has begotten us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus, the Christ, from the dead,

² Beloved, now we are the sons of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be; but we know that if he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

³ And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold the tabernacle of God with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them and be their God.

⁷ He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said unto them, Be not afraid; go tell my brothers that they may go into Galilee, and there they shall see me.

¹⁰ And she went and told those that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. ¹¹ And they, when they had heard that he was alive and had been seen of her, did not believe. ¹² After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked and went into the country. ¹³ And they went and told it unto the others, yet they did not believe them.

¹⁰ It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and other women that were with them who told these things unto the apostles.

¹ ¶ The first of the sabbaths, Mary Magdalene came early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre and saw the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

¹⁰ ¶ Afterward I came in secret unto the house of Shemaiah, the son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple; for they are coming to slay thee; yea, tonight they will come to slay thee. ¹¹ Then I said, Should such a man as I flee? And who is there as I who could go into the temple and live? I will not go in.

⁸ ¶ I will hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace unto his people and to his saints, that they not turn again to folly. ⁹ Surely his saving health is near those that fear him, that glory may dwell in our land. ¹⁰ Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

¹⁸ I have seen his ways and will heal him: I will lead him also and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. ¹⁹ I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off and to him that is near, said the LORD; and healed him.

¹³ And if the house is worthy, your peace shall come upon it; but if it is not worthy, your peace shall return to you.

²⁰ For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

¹⁴ ¶ Finally he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at the table and upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart because they did not believe those who had seen him after he was risen.

³⁶ ¶ And as they spoke these things, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them and said unto them, Peace be unto you. ³⁷ But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed that they were seeing a spirit. ³⁸ And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? ³⁹ Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself; handle me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as ye see me have. ⁴⁰ And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet. ⁴¹ And as they were not believing him yet for joy and wondering, he said unto them, Have ye here any food? ⁴² So they gave him a piece of a broiled fish and of a honeycomb. ⁴³ And he took it and ate before them. ⁴⁴ And he said unto them, These are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses and in the prophets and in the psalms, concerning me. ⁴⁵ Then he opened their understanding that they might understand the scriptures ⁴⁶ and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day; ⁴⁷ and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. ⁴⁸ And ye are witnesses of these things. ⁴⁹ And, behold, I shall send the promise of my Father upon you, but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye are endued with power from on high.

¹³ But no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world shall see me no more, but ye shall see me; because I live, ye shall live also. ²⁰ At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. ²¹ He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me; and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him. ²² Judas, not Iscariot, said unto him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us and not unto the world?strong> ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, He who loves me will keep my words, and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and dwell with him.

²⁷ Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

²² And ye now therefore have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and no one shall take your joy from you.

³³ These things I have spoken unto you that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, Peace be unto you; as my Father has sent me, even so send I you.

³³ Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

⁵ and that he appeared to Cephas and then to the twelve;

¹⁴ ¶ For he is our peace, who of both has made one, breaking down the middle wall of separation,

²³ Peace be to the brethren and charity with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

² Grace be unto you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁶ ¶ Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by every means. The Lord be with you all.

² to whom Abraham also gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is King of peace;

⁴ John, to the seven congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} which are in Asia: Grace be unto you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne

⁸ He will destroy death forever; and the Lord GOD shall wipe away every tear from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people he shall take away from off all the earth: for the LORD has determined it. ⁹ ¶ And it shall be said in that day, Behold, this is our God, whom we have waited for, and he has saved us: this is the LORD, whom we have waited for, we will be glad and rejoice in his saving health.

⁸ And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy and ran to bring his disciples word.

³⁹ Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself; handle me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as ye see me have. ⁴⁰ And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet. ⁴¹ And as they were not believing him yet for joy and wondering, he said unto them, Have ye here any food?

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, and the world shall rejoice; but even though ye shall be sorrowful, your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

³⁴ but one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith blood and water came out.

¹ ¶ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life

¹ ¶ Who is this that comes from Edom, with red garments from Bozrah? This glorious one in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. ² Why art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treads in the winefat? ³ I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the peoples there was no one with me; for I have trodden them with my anger and have trampled them with my fury; and their blood sprinkled my garments and stained all my raiment.

¹⁶ ¶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; be ye therefore prudent as serpents and innocent as doves.

⁴⁰ He that receives you receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. ¹⁹ Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, ²⁰ teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, behold, I am with you always even unto the end of the age. Amen.

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. ¹⁶ He that believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believes not shall be condemned. ¹⁷ And these signs shall follow those that believe: In my name they shall cast out demons; they shall speak with new tongues; ¹⁸ they shall take away serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands upon the sick, and they shall be healed.

¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receives whomsoever I send receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.

¹⁸ As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. ¹⁹ And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified in the truth.

¹⁹ ¶ Then the same day at evening, being the first of the sabbaths, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said unto them, Peace be unto you.

⁸ But ye shall receive the virtue of the Holy Spirit which shall come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

² And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

¹ ¶ Therefore, brethren, saints, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus,

⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

⁴ The Spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life.

⁶ By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

⁹ Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the spirit, prophesy, son of man, and say to the spirit, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Come from the four winds, O spirit, and breathe upon these slain, and they shall live.

³⁹ (But this he spoke concerning the Spirit, which those that believe on him should receive, for the Holy Spirit was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

¹⁶ and I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever,

²⁶ ¶ But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me;

⁷ ¶ Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

³⁸ Then Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized each one of you into the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, Ye princes of the people and elders of Israel,

¹⁵ who, when they were come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

⁴⁷ Can anyone forbid water that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we?

² he said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Spirit since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there is any Holy Spirit.

² This only would I learn of you, Did ye receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by the obedient ear of faith?

¹⁹ And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of the heavens, and whatever thou shalt bind on the earth shall be bound in the heavens, and whatever thou shalt loose on the earth shall be loosed in the heaven.

¹⁸ Verily I say unto you, Whatever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in the heaven; and whatever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in the heaven.

⁵ When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the paralytic, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee. ⁶ But there were certain of the scribes sitting there and thinking in their hearts, ⁷ Why does this fellow so blaspheme? Who can forgive sins but God only? ⁸ And Jesus, knowing afterward in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said unto them, Why think ye these things in your hearts? ⁹ What is easier to say to the paralytic, Thy sins are forgiven thee, or to say, Arise and take up thy bed and walk? ¹⁰ But that ye may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins (he spoke to the sick of the palsy),

⁴³ Unto him all the prophets give witness, that whosoever believes in him shall receive remission of sins through his name.

³⁸ Be it known unto you, therefore, men and brethren, that through this one is preached unto you the remission of sins; ³⁹ and in him all that believe are justified from all the things from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

⁴ In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

⁶ Sufficient to such a one is this reprehension, which was inflicted of many. ⁷ So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with too much grief. ⁸ Therefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your charity toward him. ⁹ For to this end also I wrote, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye are obedient in all things. ¹⁰ To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also; for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes I forgave it in the person of Christ,

²⁰ and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone,

²⁰ Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered unto Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.

³ Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;

⁶⁶ After this, many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him. ⁶⁷ Then Jesus said unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?

¹⁶ Then Thomas said, who is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us go also, that we may die with him.

⁵ Thomas said unto him, Lord, we know not where thou goest; how, therefore, can we know the way?

² Simon Peter and Thomas, called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee and the sons of Zebedee and two other of his disciples were together.

²⁵ not forsaking our gathering together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another and so much the more, when ye see that day approaching.

¹⁶ Who if I were to invoke him, and he answered me; yet I would not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

¹¹ and forgot his works and his wonders that he had showed them. ¹² He did marvellous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. ¹³ He divided the sea and caused them to pass through, and he made the waters to stand as a heap. ¹⁴ In the daytime also he led them with a cloud and all the night with a light of fire. ¹⁵ He clave the rocks in the wilderness and gave them drink as out of the great depths. ¹⁶ He brought streams also out of the rock and caused waters to run down like rivers. ¹⁷ And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness. ¹⁸ And they tempted God in their heart by asking for food according to the desires of their soul. ¹⁹ And they spoke against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? ²⁰ Behold, he smote the rock that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? ²¹ Therefore the LORD heard this and was wroth, so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel ²² because they had not believed God, nor had they trusted in his saving health;

³² For all this they sinned still and did not give him credit for his wondrous works.

⁸ harden not your heart, as in the provocation and as in the day of trials in the wilderness ⁹ When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. ¹⁰ Forty years long I was grieved with this generation and said, It is a people that err from the heart, who have not known my ways;

²¹ They forgot the God of their saving health, who had done great things in Egypt, ²² wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things upon the Red sea. ²³ Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath lest he should destroy them. ²⁴ And they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his word:

¹ ¶ The Pharisees and the Sadducees came to tempt him; they asked him to show them a sign from the heaven. ² But he answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather, for the heaven is glowing with an aurora. ³ And in the morning, It will be foul weather today, for the heaven has an aurora and is cloudy. O ye hypocrites, ye know how to make decisions based on the face of the heaven, and regarding the signs of the times are ye unable? ⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and no sign shall be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And he left them and departed.

⁴² He saved others; he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, and we will believe him.

¹¹ And they, when they had heard that he was alive and had been seen of her, did not believe.

²⁵ Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken;

³⁴ saying, The Lord is risen indeed and has appeared to Simon. ³⁵ And they told what things were done in the way and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread. ³⁶ ¶ And as they spoke these things, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them and said unto them, Peace be unto you. ³⁷ But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed that they were seeing a spirit. ³⁸ And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon and said unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

³⁰ They said therefore unto him, What sign showest thou then that we may see and believe thee? what dost thou work?

¹⁴ And when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there and did not know that it was Jesus. ¹⁵ Jesus said unto her, Woman, why dost thou weep? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, said unto him, Lord, if thou didst carry him off, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. ¹⁶ Jesus said unto her, Mary! Turning herself around, she said unto him, Rabboni, which is to say, Master. ¹⁷ Jesus said unto her, Touch me not, for I have not yet ascended to my Father; but go to my brethren and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father and your Father, and to my God and your God. ¹⁸ Mary Magdalene came giving the news to the disciples, That I have seen the Lord, and he spoke these things unto me. ¹⁹ ¶ Then the same day at evening, being the first of the sabbaths, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said unto them, Peace be unto you. ²⁰ And having said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew, hanging him on a tree. ³¹ God has exalted him with his right hand as Prince and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. ³² And we are his witnesses of these things, and so is also the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those that persuade him.

⁴⁰ This same one God raised up the third day and showed him openly, ⁴¹ not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

⁵ and that he appeared to Cephas and then to the twelve; ⁶ after that, he appeared unto more than five hundred brothers at once, of whom the greater part remain unto now, but some are fallen asleep. ⁷ After that, he appeared unto James; then to all the apostles. ⁸ And last of all he appeared unto me also, as of one born out of due time.

¹² Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unfaithfulness, to depart from the living God.

¹⁸ And to whom he swore that they should not enter into his rest, but to those that disobeyed?

³⁸ Now the just shall live by faith, but if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. ³⁹ But we are not of those who draw back unto perdition, but faithful unto the saving of the soul.

¹² ¶ LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought in us all our works.

⁵ Or who shall take hold of my strength? Make peace with me, yea, make peace with me.

¹⁰ For the mountains shall be removed, and the hills shall tremble; but my mercy shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be changed, said the LORD that has mercy on thee.

¹ ¶ And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, his brother, and brought them apart up into a high mountain

²⁸ ¶ And it came to pass about eight days after these words, he took Peter and John and James and went up into the mountain to pray.

³⁸ But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them; many a time turned he his anger away and did not stir up all his wrath.

¹³ Like as a father has mercy upon his children, so the LORD has mercy upon those that fear him. ¹⁴ For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.

¹⁷ Then Jesus answered and said, O unfaithful and crooked generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him here to me.

¹⁹ Answering, he said unto him, O unfaithful generation, how long shall I be with you? How long must I suffer you? Bring him unto me.

⁴¹ And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and suffer you? Bring thy son here.

⁴⁰ And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet.

²⁰ And having said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

²⁰ Moreover the law entered that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound,

¹⁴ And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ This is a faithful saying and worthy of acceptation by all, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first. ¹⁶ But for this cause I was received unto mercy that in me first, Jesus Christ might show forth all clemency, for an example to those who should hereafter believe in him for eternal life.

¹ ¶ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life ² (for the life is manifested, and we also saw it and bear witness and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father and appeared unto us);

⁶ ¶ Thy throne, O God, is eternal and for ever, the rod of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

¹¹ so shall the king greatly desire thy beauty; and bow before him, for he is thy Lord.

²⁴ I said, O my God, do not cut me off in the midst of my days; thy years are from generation to generation. ²⁵ Of old thou hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the work of thy hands. ²⁶ They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture thou shalt change them, and they shall be changed: ²⁷ But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end. ²⁸ The sons of thy slaves shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.

²⁴ This is the day which the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. ²⁵ Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, cause us now to prosper. ²⁶ Blessed be he that comes in the name of the LORD; from the house of the LORD we bless you. ²⁷ God is the LORD, who has shined on us; bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar. ²⁸ Thou art my God, and I will praise thee; thou art my God, I will exalt thee.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Immanuel.

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government is placed upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called The Wonderful One, The Counsellor, The God, The Mighty One, The Eternal Father, The Prince of Peace.

⁹ ¶ And it shall be said in that day, Behold, this is our God, whom we have waited for, and he has saved us: this is the LORD, whom we have waited for, we will be glad and rejoice in his saving health.

⁹ ¶ O Zion, that brings good tidings, go up into the high mountain; lift up thy voice with strength O bearer of good tidings of Jerusalem; lift it up, do not be afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God! ¹⁰ Behold, the Lord GOD will come with a strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. ¹¹ He shall feed his flock like a shepherd; he shall gather the lambs with his arm and carry them in his bosom and shall gently lead those that are with young.

⁵ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper and shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. ⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this shall be his name by which they shall call him, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

¹ ¶ Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, and the angel of the covenant, whom ye desire: behold, he comes, said the LORD of the hosts.

³³ Then those that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Truly thou art the Son of God.

⁵² And they worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy

¹ ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with the God, and the Word was God.

²³ that everyone should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who has sent him.

³⁵ ¶ Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe in the Son of God? ³⁶ He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe in him? ³⁷ And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast seen him, and it is he that talks with thee. ³⁸ And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

¹⁶ Jesus said unto her, Mary! Turning herself around, she said unto him, Rabboni, which is to say, Master.

³¹ but these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life in his name.

⁵⁹ And they stoned Stephen calling upon God and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. ⁶⁰ And he kneeled down and cried with a loud voice, Lord, impute not this sin to their charge. And having said this, he fell asleep in the Lord.

¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open its seals, for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us unto God by thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation ¹⁰ and hast made us unto our God kings and priests, and we shall reign on the earth. ¹¹ And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and of the animals and of the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; ¹² saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to take power and riches and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing. ¹³ And I heard every creature which is in heaven and upon the earth and under the earth and such as are upon the sea and all that are in it, saying, Blessing and honour and glory and power, be unto him that is seated upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four animals said, Amen. And the twenty-four elders fell on their faces and worshipped him that lives for ever and ever.

⁴⁵ And blessed is she that believed, for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

⁴⁸ Then Jesus said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

⁸ Then that other disciple, who came first to the sepulchre, went in also and he saw and believed.

⁷ (for we walk by faith, not by sight).

¹ ¶ Faith, therefore, is the substance of things waited for, the evidence of things not seen.

²⁷ By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

³⁹ And these all, approved by testimony of faith, received not the promise,

⁸ whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though at present ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory;

³ it seemed good also to me, after having understood all the things from the beginning with great diligence, to write them unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, ⁴ that thou mightest know the security of those things in which thou hast been instructed.

¹¹ This beginning of the signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee and manifested forth his glory, and his disciples believed on him.

²⁵ And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which, if they should be written every one, I think that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

⁴ For the things that were written beforehand were written for our instruction that we, through patient endurance and through the comfort of the scriptures, might have hope.

¹¹ Now all these things happened unto them as types, and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.

¹⁵ and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto saving health by the faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, ¹⁷ that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

¹ ¶ Beloved, I now write unto you this second epistle, in which I alert with exhortation your pure understanding, ² that ye keep in memory the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets and of our commandment, that we are apostles of the Lord and Saviour,

³ that which we have seen and heard we declare unto you, that ye also may have communion with us; and truly our communion is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. ⁴ And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be fulfilled.

¹³ These things I have written unto you that believe in the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe in the name of the Son of God.

⁷ ¶ I will declare the decree; the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day I have begotten thee.

¹² Kiss the Son lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way when his wrath is kindled in a little while. Blessed are all those that put their trust in him.

³ And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones be made into bread.

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

⁵⁴ Now when the centurion and those that were with him, guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was God’s Son.

¹⁶ He that believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believes not shall be condemned.

⁴ that thou mightest know the security of those things in which thou hast been instructed.

⁴⁷ and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

¹⁵ that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

¹⁸ He that believes on him is not condemned, but he that does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

³⁶ He that believes in the Son has eternal life, and he that does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word and believes him that sent me has eternal life and shall not come into judgment but has passed from death unto life.

³⁹ Search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are those who testify of me. ⁴⁰ And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

⁴⁰ And this is the will of him that sent me, That every one who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁶⁹ And we believe and know that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. ⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

¹⁰ The thief comes not but for to steal and to kill and to destroy the sheep; I am come that they might have life and that they might have it in abundance.

³⁵ And he that saw it gives testimony, and his testimony is true, and he knows that he says the truth, that ye also might believe.

¹⁶ And in the faith of his name, unto this man whom ye see and know, has confirmed his name; and the faith which is by him has given this man this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

³⁶ And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what hinders me to be baptized?

²⁰ And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

³ of his Son (who was born unto him of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of sanctification, by the resurrection from the dead), of Jesus, the Christ, our Lord.

⁹ receiving the end of your faith, even the saving health of your souls.

²³ Whosoever denies the Son, the same does not have the Father. Whosoever confesses the Son, has the Father also. ²⁴ Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. For if that which ye have heard from the beginning shall abide in you, ye also shall continue to abide in the Son and in the Father. ²⁵ And this is the promise that he has promised us, even eternal life.

¹⁵ Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

¹ ¶ Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and anyone that loves him that begat also loves him that is born of him.

¹⁰ ¶ He that believes in the Son of God has the witness of God in himself; he that does not believe God has made God a liar; because he does not believe the witness that God has testified of his Son. ¹¹ And this is the witness, that God has given eternal life to us, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He that has the Son has life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have life. ¹³ These things I have written unto you that believe in the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe in the name of the Son of God.

²⁰ But we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

⁹ Whosoever rebels and does not abide in the doctrine of the Christ, does not have God. He that abides in the doctrine of the Christ, the same has the Father and the Son.

¹⁸ ¶ And unto the angel of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} in Thyatira write; These things, saith the Son of God, who has his eyes like unto a flame of fire and his feet like unto brilliant metal:
