¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not drown; let me be delivered from those that hate me and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Let not the violent force of the waters overcome me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

⁵ Freed among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou dost remember no more; and they are cut off from thy hand. ⁶ Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps. ⁷ Thy wrath lies hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah. ⁸ Thou hast put away mine acquaintances far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them; I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

¹² And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you; for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you. ¹³ Nevertheless the men rowed hard to turn the ship to land, but they could not; for the sea rose higher and was wroth against them. ¹⁴ And they cried unto the LORD and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for the soul of this man, and do not lay upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee. ¹⁵ So they took up Jonah and cast him forth into the sea; and the sea ceased from her raging. ¹⁶ Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD and made vows.
