¹ ¶ This is the inheritance of the sons of Israel in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest and Joshua, the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel, distributed unto them. ² Their inheritance was by lot, as the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses, to be given to the nine tribes and to the half tribe. ³ For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and half a tribe on the other side of the Jordan, but unto the Levites he gave no inheritance among them. ⁴ For the sons of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, and they gave no part unto the Levites in the land except cities to dwell in with their suburbs for their livestock and for their substance. ⁵ As the LORD had commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did regarding the dividing of the land. ⁶ ¶ Then the sons of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses, the man of God, concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea. ⁷ I was forty years old when Moses, the slave of the LORD, sent me from Kadeshbarnea to spy out the land, and I brought him word again as it was in my heart, ⁸ but my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I entirely followed the LORD my God. ⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, Surely the land on which thy feet have trodden shall be thy inheritance and thy sons’ for ever because thou hast entirely followed the LORD my God. ¹⁰ And now, behold, the LORD has caused me to live, as he said, these forty-five years from the time that the LORD spoke these words unto Moses, while Israel has walked in the wilderness; and now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. ¹¹ As yet I am as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war and to go out and to come in. ¹² Now, therefore, give me this mountain, of which the LORD spoke in that day; for thou didst hear in that day how the Anakims were there and that the cities were great and strong; peradventure, the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as the LORD said. ¹³ Then Joshua blessed him and gave unto Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, Hebron as inheritance. ¹⁴ Hebron, therefore, became the inheritance of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, unto this day because he entirely followed the LORD God of Israel. ¹⁵ And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; Arba had been a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.

¹⁷ These are the names of the men who shall divide the possession of the land for you: Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua, the son of Nun. ¹⁸ And ye shall take one prince of every tribe to divide the possession of the land. ¹⁹ And the names of the men are these: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh. ²⁰ And of the tribe of the sons of Simeon, Shemuel, the son of Ammihud. ²¹ Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad, the son of Chislon. ²² And the of the tribe of the sons of Dan, the prince Bukki, the son of Jogli. ²³ Of the sons of Joseph: of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh, the prince Hanniel, the son of Ephod. ²⁴ And of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim, the prince Kemuel, the son of Shiphtan. ²⁵ And of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun, the prince Elizaphan, the son of Parnach. ²⁶ And of the tribe of the sons of Issachar, the prince Paltiel, the son of Azzan. ²⁷ And of the tribe of the sons of Asher, the prince Ahihud, the son of Shelomi. ²⁸ And of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali, the prince Pedahel, the son of Ammihud. ²⁹ These are those whom the LORD commanded to cause the sons of Israel to inherit the land of Canaan.

⁵⁵ Notwithstanding the land shall be divided by lot; according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit. ⁵⁶ According to the lot shall the inheritance be divided between those that are many and those that are few.

⁵⁴ And ye shall inherit the land by lots by your families, and to those with the most ye shall give more inheritance, and to the fewer ye shall give less inheritance, each one’s inheritance shall be in the place where his lot falls; according to the tribes of your fathers ye shall inherit.

¹³ And Moses commanded the sons of Israel, saying, This is the land which ye shall inherit by lot, which the LORD commanded to give unto the nine tribes and to the half tribe,

⁵ The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup; thou dost maintain my lot. ⁶ The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a beautiful inheritance.

³³ ¶ The lot is cast into the lap, but the judgment thereof is of the LORD.

¹⁸ ¶ The lot causes contentions to cease and decides between the mighty.

³⁴ Then shall the King say unto those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;

²⁹ And Moses said unto them, If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben will pass the Jordan with you, each one armed to battle, before the LORD, after the land shall be subdued before you, then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession. ³⁰ But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan. ³¹ And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD has said unto thy slaves, so will we do. ³² We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance on this side of the Jordan shall be ours. ³³ Thus Moses gave unto the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and unto half the tribe of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with its cities and borders, even the cities of the country round about. ³⁴ And the sons of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer ³⁵ and Atroth-shophan and Jaazer and Jogbehah ³⁶ and Bethnimrah and Bethharan, fenced cities, and also folds for sheep. ³⁷ And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon and Elealeh and Kirjathaim ³⁸ and Nebo and Baalmeon (their names being changed) and Shibmah and gave other names unto the cities which they built. ³⁹ And the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, went to Gilead and took it and dispossessed the Amorite who was in it. ⁴⁰ And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir, the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein. ⁴¹ Jair, the son of Manasseh also went and took the small towns thereof and called them Havothjair. ⁴² Likewise Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages and called it Nobah, after his own name.

¹² ¶ And this land, which we inherited at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half of Mount Gilead and the cities thereof, I gave unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites. ¹³ And the rest of Gilead and all Bashan (fertile ground), being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh: all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants. ¹⁴ Jair, the son of Manasseh, took all the country of Argob unto the border of Geshuri and Maachathi and called them after his own name, Bashanhavothjair, unto this day. ¹⁵ And I gave Gilead unto Machir. ¹⁶ And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon, half the valley for a border even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the sons of Ammon, ¹⁷ the plain also and the Jordan and the border thereof from Chinnereth even unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdothpisgah eastward.

⁸ for the other half received their inheritance with the Reubenites and the Gadites, which Moses gave them of the other side of the Jordan eastward, according as Moses the slave of the LORD gave them;

¹⁴ But unto the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the sacrifices on fire of the LORD God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said unto them.

³² This is what Moses distributed in inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side of the Jordan of Jericho, eastward. ³³ But to the tribe of Levi Moses did not give any inheritance; the LORD God of Israel is their inheritance, as he said unto them.

⁵ And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, who were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.

² Command the sons of Israel that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in, and ye shall give also unto the Levites the suburbs of those cities round about them. ³ And they shall have the cities to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their animals and for their substance and for all their beasts. ⁴ And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about. ⁵ Then ye shall measure from outside the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the side of the Negev two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities. ⁶ And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint so that the manslayer may flee there; and in addition to them ye shall give them forty-two cities. ⁷ So all the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty-eight cities, the cities with their suburbs. ⁸ And the cities which ye shall give shall be of the possession of the sons of Israel; from those that have much ye shall give many; but from those that have few ye shall give few, each one shall give of his cities unto the Levites according to his possession which he inherited.

² and they spoke unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in with the suburbs thereof for our beasts. ³ Then the sons of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their possessions, according to the word of the LORD, these cities and their suburbs. ⁴ And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites; and the sons of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah and out of the tribe of Simeon and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities. ⁵ And the rest of the sons of Kohath had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim and out of the tribe of Dan and out of the half tribe of Manasseh, ten cities. ⁶ And the sons of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar and out of the tribe of Asher and out of the tribe of Naphtali and out of the half tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. ⁷ The sons of Merari by their families had out of the tribe of Reuben and out of the tribe of Gad and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. ⁸ Thus the sons of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as the LORD had commanded by the hand of Moses. ⁹ ¶ And they gave out of the tribe of the sons of Judah and out of the tribe of the sons of Simeon these cities which are here mentioned by name; ¹⁰ and the first lot was of the sons of Aaron, of the family of Kohath, of the sons of Levi; ¹¹ and they gave them the city of Arba of the father of Anak, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah, with its suburbs round about. ¹² But the fields of the city and the villages thereof, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession. ¹³ Thus they gave to the sons of Aaron the priest Hebron with its suburbs, to be a city of refuge for manslayers and Libnah with its suburbs ¹⁴ and Jattir with its suburbs and Eshtemoa with its suburbs ¹⁵ and Holon with its suburbs and Debir with its suburbs ¹⁶ and Ain with its suburbs and Juttah with its suburbs and Bethshemesh with its suburbs: nine cities out of those two tribes. ¹⁷ And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its suburbs, Geba with its suburbs, ¹⁸ Anathoth with its suburbs, and Almon with its suburbs: four cities. ¹⁹ All these cities of the priests, the sons of Aaron, are thirteen cities with their suburbs. ²⁰ But the families of the sons of Kohath, Levites, those who remained of the sons of Kohath, received cities by lot out of the tribe of Ephraim. ²¹ For they gave them Shechem with its suburbs in the mountain of Ephraim, to be a city of refuge for manslayers, and Gezer with its suburbs, ²² Kibzaim with its suburbs, Bethhoron with its suburbs: four cities. ²³ And out of the tribe of Dan, Eltekeh with its suburbs, Gibbethon with its suburbs, ²⁴ Aijalon with its suburbs, Gathrimmon with its suburbs: four cities. ²⁵ And out of the half tribe of Manasseh, Tanach with its suburbs and Gathrimmon with its suburbs: two cities. ²⁶ All the cities were ten with their suburbs for the remaining families of the sons of Kohath. ²⁷ And unto the sons of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the other half tribe of Manasseh they gave Golan in Bashan with its suburbs, to be a city of refuge for manslayers, and Beeshterah with its suburbs: two cities. ²⁸ And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishon with its suburbs, Dabareh with its suburbs, ²⁹ Jarmuth with its suburbs, Engannim with its suburbs: four cities. ³⁰ And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its suburbs, Abdon with its suburbs, ³¹ Helkath with its suburbs, and Rehob with its suburbs: four cities. ³² And out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its suburbs, to be a city of refuge for manslayers, and Hammothdor with its suburbs and Kartan with its suburbs: three cities. ³³ All the cities of those of Gershon according to their families were thirteen cities with their suburbs. ³⁴ And unto the families of the sons of Merari, Levites that remained, out of the tribe of Zebulun they gave them, Jokneam with its suburbs and Kartah with its suburbs, ³⁵ Dimnah with its suburbs, Nahalal with its suburbs: four cities. ³⁶ And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer and Jahazah, ³⁷ Kedemoth, and Mephaath: four cities. ³⁸ And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its suburbs, to be a city of refuge for manslayers; and Mahanaim with its suburbs, ³⁹ Heshbon with its suburbs, Jazer with its suburbs; four cities in all. ⁴⁰ So all the cities for the sons of Merari by their families, who remained of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities. ⁴¹ All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the sons of Israel were forty-eight cities with their suburbs. ⁴² Each one of these cities were separated with their suburbs round about them; thus were all these cities.

¹ ¶ Now the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn, but because he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel; and he was not counted as the firstborn. ² For Judah prevailed above his brethren and was their prince, but the birthright was Joseph’s:)

⁵⁴ ¶ Now these are their dwelling places throughout their palaces in their borders, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites; for theirs was the lot, ⁵⁵ that they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah and its suburbs round about it. ⁵⁶ But the fields around the city and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh. ⁵⁷ And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge of Judah, namely, Hebron and Libnah with their suburbs, and Jattir and Eshtemoa, with their suburbs, ⁵⁸ and Hilen with her suburbs, Debir with her suburbs, ⁵⁹ and Ashan with her suburbs, and Bethshemesh with her suburbs. ⁶⁰ And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba with her suburbs and Alemeth with her suburbs and Anathoth with her suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities. ⁶¹ And unto the sons of Kohath, who were left of that family, they gave ten cities of the half tribe of Manasseh, by lot. ⁶² And to the sons of Gershon, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Issachar and out of the tribe of Asher and out of the tribe of Naphtali and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. ⁶³ Unto the sons of Merari were given by lot, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Reuben and out of the tribe of Gad and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. ⁶⁴ And the sons of Israel gave to the Levites these cities with their suburbs. ⁶⁵ And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the sons of Judah and out of the tribe of the sons of Simeon and out of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin, these cities, which are called by their names. ⁶⁶ And the residue of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities with their borders out of the tribe of Ephraim. ⁶⁷ And they gave unto them, of the cities of refuge, Shechem in Mount Ephraim with her suburbs; they gave also Gezer with her suburbs, ⁶⁸ and Jokmeam with her suburbs and Bethhoron with her suburbs, ⁶⁹ and Aijalon with her suburbs and Gathrimmon with her suburbs. ⁷⁰ And out of the half tribe of Manasseh; Aner with her suburbs and Bileam with her suburbs, for the family of the remnant of the sons of Kohath. ⁷¹ Unto the sons of Gershon were given out of the family of the half tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with her suburbs and Ashtaroth with her suburbs; ⁷² and out of the tribe of Issachar; Kedesh with her suburbs, Daberath with her suburbs, ⁷³ and Ramoth with her suburbs, and Anem with her suburbs; ⁷⁴ and out of the tribe of Asher, Mashal with her suburbs and Abdon with her suburbs ⁷⁵ and Hukok with her suburbs and Rehob with her suburbs. ⁷⁶ And out of the tribe of Naphtali; Kedesh in Galilee with her suburbs and Hammon with her suburbs and Kirjathaim with her suburbs. ⁷⁷ Unto the rest of the sons of Merari were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmon with her suburbs, Tabor with her suburbs; ⁷⁸ and on the other side of the Jordan by Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, were given them out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness with her suburbs and Jahzah with her suburbs, ⁷⁹ Kedemoth also with her suburbs and Mephaath with her suburbs; ⁸⁰ and out of the tribe of Gad; Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs and Mahanaim with her suburbs, ⁸¹ and Heshbon with her suburbs and Jazer with her suburbs.

¹ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan of Jericho, saying, ² Command the sons of Israel that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in, and ye shall give also unto the Levites the suburbs of those cities round about them.

⁷ My slave Moses is not so, who is faithful in all my house. ⁸ With him I will speak mouth to mouth and by sight not by enigmas; he shall see the similitude of the LORD. Why then were ye not afraid to speak against my slave Moses?

⁶ Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh.

²⁶ ¶ And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran to Kadesh and brought back word unto them and unto all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

⁶ And Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, who were of those that had spied out the land, rent their clothes;

²⁴ But my slave Caleb, because there was another spirit in him, and he proved to follow after me, I will bring him into the land that he entered into, and his seed shall receive it by inheritance,

³⁰ doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

¹² except Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua, the son of Nun, for they were perfect in following the LORD.

³⁶ except Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he has trodden upon, and to his sons, because he has perfectly followed the LORD. ³⁷ Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou shalt not go in there either. ³⁸ But Joshua, the son of Nun, who stands before thee, he shall go in there; encourage him; for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

¹ ¶ And this is the blessing, with which Moses the man of God blessed the sons of Israel before his death.

⁵ ¶ So Moses, the slave of the LORD, died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

¹⁰ And there never arose a prophet since in Israel like Moses, who had known the LORD face to face,

¹⁹ And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month and camped in Gilgal, on the east side of Jericho.

⁴³ And Joshua returned and all Israel with him unto the camp to Gilgal.

¹⁴ Hebron, therefore, became the inheritance of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, unto this day because he entirely followed the LORD God of Israel.

¹⁷ And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

⁶ Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible; but I did not ask him where he was from, neither did he tell me his name; ⁷ but he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive and bear a son, and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing; for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death. ⁸ ¶ Then Manoah prayed unto the LORD and said, O my Lord, let the man of God whom thou didst send come again unto us and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

¹ ¶ And, behold, a man of God came out of Judah by the word of the LORD unto Bethel; and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.

¹⁴ and went after the man of God and found him sitting under an oak; and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that didst come from Judah? And he said, I am.

⁹ And she said to her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is a holy man of God, who passes by us continually.

¹⁶ And he said, At the appointed time, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, No, my lord, thou man of God, do not deceive thy handmaid.

⁴² Then a man came from Baalshalisha, who brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of wheat in the head. And he said, Give unto the people that they may eat.

⁷ ¶ Elisha went to Damascus; and Benhadad, the king of Syria, was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come here.

¹¹ And he settled his countenance steadfastly, until he was ashamed; and the man of God wept.

¹ A Prayer of Moses the man of God. ¶ Lord, thou hast been our refuge from generation to generation.

¹¹ But thou, O man of God, flee these things and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, charity, tolerance, meekness.

¹⁷ that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

¹⁶ These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hosea, the son of Nun, Joshua. ¹⁷ And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan and said unto them, Go up this way towards the Negev and go up into the mountain ¹⁸ and see the land, what it is, and the people that dwell therein, whether they are strong or weak, few or many, ¹⁹ and how the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad, and what cities there are that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds, ²⁰ And what the land is, whether it is fertile or sterile, whether there are trees therein, or not. And be ye of good courage and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.

²⁶ ¶ And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran to Kadesh and brought back word unto them and unto all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land. ²⁷ And they told him and said, We came unto the land where thou didst send us, and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. ²⁸ Nevertheless the people are strong that dwell in that land, and the cities are very great and strong; and moreover we saw the sons of Anak there. ²⁹ Amalek dwells in the land of the Negev, and the Hittite and the Jebusite and the Amorite dwell in the mountains, and the Canaanite dwells by the sea and by the side of the Jordan. ³⁰ Then Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. ³¹ But the men that went up with him said, We are not able to go up against that people, for they are stronger than we. ³² And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the sons of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone through to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. ³³ And there we saw giants, the sons of Anak, of the race of the giants; and we were in our own sight as locusts, and so we were in their sight.

⁶ And Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, who were of those that had spied out the land, rent their clothes; ⁷ and they spoke unto all the company of the sons of Israel, saying, The land which we passed through to spy out is an exceeding good land. ⁸ If the LORD delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey. ⁹ Therefore, do not be rebels against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land, for they are our bread; their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us; do not fear them. ¹⁰ Then all the multitude spoke of stoning them with stones. But the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the testimony before all the sons of Israel.

³¹ But the men that went up with him said, We are not able to go up against that people, for they are stronger than we.

³⁶ except Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he has trodden upon, and to his sons, because he has perfectly followed the LORD.

⁴ These are those who are not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are those who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These are redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

²² And they ascended by the Negev and came unto Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the sons of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

²² Because all those men who saw my glory and my signs which I have done in Egypt and in the wilderness and have tempted me now these ten times and have not hearkened to my voice, ²³ surely they shall not see the land which I swore unto their fathers, neither shall any of those that provoked me see it. ²⁴ But my slave Caleb, because there was another spirit in him, and he proved to follow after me, I will bring him into the land that he entered into, and his seed shall receive it by inheritance,

³ Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

³³ And your children shall be shepherded in the wilderness forty years and bear your fornications until your carcasses are wasted in the wilderness. ³⁴ After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, each day for a year, ye shall bear your iniquities forty years, and ye shall know my reason for annulling my promise.

¹⁸ Joshua made war many days with all those kings.

² and he said unto them, I am one hundred and twenty years old today; I can no longer go out and come in; also the LORD has said unto me, Thou shalt not pass this Jordan.

⁷ And Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died; his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

¹⁰ The days of our years are seventy, and of the most valiant eighty years, yet their strength is labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

⁵ who satisfies thy mouth with good things so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

²⁸ Nevertheless the people are strong that dwell in that land, and the cities are very great and strong; and moreover we saw the sons of Anak there.

³³ And there we saw giants, the sons of Anak, of the race of the giants; and we were in our own sight as locusts, and so we were in their sight.

⁸ If the LORD delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey. ⁹ Therefore, do not be rebels against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land, for they are our bread; their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us; do not fear them.

³⁴ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not, for I have delivered him into thy hand and all his people and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.

²¹ Also at the same time Joshua came and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel; Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities. ²² There were none of the Anakims left in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained.

¹⁴ And Caleb drove from there the three sons of Anak, Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the sons of Anak.

²⁰ And they gave Hebron unto Caleb as Moses had said, and he expelled from there the three sons of Anak.

⁶ And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armour, Come and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised; peradventure the LORD will work for us, for it is not difficult for the LORD to save by many or by few.

¹¹ And Asa cried unto the LORD his God and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many or with those that have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; do not let man prevail against thee.

³² It is God that girds me with strength and makes my way perfect. ³³ He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and sets me upon my high places. ³⁴ He trains my hands for the battle, so that a bow of bronze shall be broken by my arms.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ² When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. ³ Though a host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

³ For they did not get the land in inheritance by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them, but thy right hand and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance because thy delight was in them.

¹² Through God we shall do valiantly, for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

¹⁰ All the nations compassed me about; but in the name of the LORD I will cut them off. ¹¹ They compassed me about; yea, they laid hold of me; but in the name of the LORD I will cut them off. ¹² They compassed me about like bees; they were quenched as the fire of thorns; for in the name of the LORD I will cut them off.

³¹ ¶ What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who shall be against us?

¹³ I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

³³ who by faith won kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

⁷ And Joseph brought in Jacob his father and set him before Pharaoh; and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

¹⁰ And Jacob blessed Pharaoh and went out from before Pharaoh.

³⁶ And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it; ³⁷ and they took it and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof and all the cities thereof and all the souls that were in it; he left no one remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon, but destroyed it utterly and all the souls that were therein.

¹³ ¶ And unto Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, he gave a part among the sons of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba, the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.

¹¹ and they gave them the city of Arba of the father of Anak, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah, with its suburbs round about. ¹² But the fields of the city and the villages thereof, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.

⁶ So Joshua, blessing them, sent them; and they went unto their tents.

¹⁷ Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

⁵⁵ that they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah and its suburbs round about it. ⁵⁶ But the fields around the city and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

⁹ My dove is but one, my perfect one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that brought her into the light. The virgins saw her and called her blessed; yea, the queens and the concubines and they praised her.

⁸ but my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I entirely followed the LORD my God. ⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, Surely the land on which thy feet have trodden shall be thy inheritance and thy sons’ for ever because thou hast entirely followed the LORD my God.

⁵⁸ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brothers, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

² And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan; and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.

²³ So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD had said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

¹¹ And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel, the son of Kenaz, died.

³⁰ So Moab was subjected that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest eighty years.

³¹ So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD, but let those that love thee be as the sun when he rises in all his might. And the land had rest forty years.

²⁸ Thus Midian was broken before the sons of Israel so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the land rested forty years in the days of Gideon.
