¹ ¶ In those days when there was no king in Israel, there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of Mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Bethlehem of Judah. ² And his concubine committed adultery against him and went away from him unto her father’s house to Bethlehem of Judah and was there four whole months. ³ And her husband arose and went after her to speak friendly unto her and to bring her again, having his servant with him and a couple of asses, and she brought him into her father’s house. And when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him; ⁴ and his father-in-law, the damsel’s father, retained him, and he dwelt with him three days; eating and drinking, and abiding there. ⁵ And on the fourth day when they arose early in the morning, the Levite rose up to depart; and the damsel’s father said unto his son-in-law, Strengthen thy heart with a morsel of bread, and afterwards ye shall go. ⁶ And the two of them sat down together and ate and drank. And the damsel’s father said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and thy heart shall be merry. ⁷ And when the man rose up to depart, his father-in-law urged him to remain and lodge there again. ⁸ And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart, and the damsel’s father said, Strengthen now thy heart. And after having eaten together, they tarried until afternoon. ⁹ And when the man rose up to depart, he and his concubine and his servant, his father-in-law, the damsel’s father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draws toward evening, I pray you tarry all night; behold, the day comes to an end; lodge here that thy heart may be merry, and tomorrow ye shall get up early and be on your way that thou may come unto thy tent. ¹⁰ But the man would not remain there that night, but he rose up and departed and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem, with his two asses saddled and with his concubine. ¹¹ And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come now and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites and lodge in it. ¹² And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside here into a city of strangers that is not of the sons of Israel; we will go on to Gibeah. ¹³ And he said unto his servant, Come and let us draw near to one of these places to pass the night, in Gibeah or in Ramah. ¹⁴ And they passed on and walked; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belonged to Benjamin. ¹⁵ And they turned in there, to enter and to lodge in Gibeah; and entering in, they sat down in the plaza of the city, for no one took them into their house to pass the night. ¹⁶ ¶ And, behold, an old man, who in the evening came from working in the field, who was also of Mount Ephraim, sojourned in Gibeah, but the men of the place were sons of Jemini. {Benjamin} ¹⁷ And the old man lifted up his eyes and saw the traveller in the plaza of the city and said unto him, Where dost thou go and where hast thou come from? ¹⁸ And he said unto him, We are passing from Bethlehem of Judah toward the side of Mount Ephraim, where I am from, and I went to Bethlehem of Judah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD, and no one has received me in their house ¹⁹ even though we have straw and fodder for our asses, and there is bread and wine also for me and for thy handmaid and for the young man who is with thy slave; we have no lack of any thing. ²⁰ And the old man said, Peace be with thee; let all thy needs be upon me; only do not pass the night in the plaza. ²¹ So he brought him into his house and gave fodder unto the asses, and they washed their feet, and ate and drank. ²² ¶ Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, that men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about and beat at the doors and spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thy house that we may know him. ²³ And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them and said unto them, No, my brethren, I pray you, do not do this evil, seeing that this man has entered into my house; do not commit this folly. ²⁴ Behold, here is my virgin daughter and his concubine; I will bring them out now, humble them, and do with them what seems good unto you, but unto this man do not commit this vile folly. ²⁵ But the men would not hearken unto him, so the man took his concubine and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her and abused her all night until the morning; and when the day began to break, they let her go. ²⁶ Then the woman came, in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was until it was light. ²⁷ And her lord rose up in the morning and opened the doors of the house and went out to go his way, and behold, the woman, his concubine, was fallen down at the door of the house with her hands upon the threshold. ²⁸ And he said unto her, Rise up, and let us be going. But she did not answer. Then the man rose up and took her upon his ass and went unto his place. ²⁹ And when he was come into his house, he took a knife and laid hold on his concubine and divided her, together with her bones into twelve pieces, and sent them into all the borders of Israel. ³⁰ And everyone that saw it said, No such deed has been done or seen from the day that the sons of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt until this day. Consider this, give advice, and speak.

²⁴ And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, also gave birth to Tebah and Gaham and Thahash and Maachah.

⁶ But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.

¹⁹ Thus Rachel died and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.

³⁰ And they buried him within the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in Mount Ephraim, on the north side of the Mountain of Gaash.

³³ And Eleazar, the son of Aaron, died, and they buried him in the hill of Phinehas, his son, which was given to him in the mountain of Ephraim.

¹ ¶ And there was a man of Mount Ephraim, whose name was Micah.

⁶ In those days there was no king in Israel; each one did that which was right in his own eyes.

⁸ And the man had departed out of the city from Bethlehem of Judah to sojourn where he could find a place, and he came to Mount Ephraim to the house of Micah as he journeyed.

¹ ¶ In those days there was no king in Israel, and in those days the tribe of the Dan sought a possession for themselves to dwell in, for unto that day their lot had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel for an inheritance.

²⁵ In those days there was no king in Israel; each one did that which seemed right in his own eyes.

⁷ ¶ And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. And Ishbosheth said to Abner, Why hast thou gone in unto my father’s concubine?

²¹ then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones, and she shall die because she has wrought folly in Israel, to fornicate in her father’s house; so shalt thou put evil away from among you.

²⁸ Thou hast played the whore also with the sons of Assyria because thou wast insatiable; thou hast played the harlot with them and yet could not be satisfied.

³ And his soul was joined unto Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and he fell in love with the damsel and spoke unto her heart.

²¹ Now therefore fear ye not; I will nourish you and your little ones. Thus he comforted them and spoke to their heart.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart; thou shalt rebuke thy neighbour in sincerity, that thou not bear sin for him.

¹⁰ ¶ And the man that commits adultery with another man’s wife, he that commits adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely die.

²² ¶ And God’s anger was kindled because he went, and the angel of the LORD stood in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.

¹ ¶ But it came to pass within some days in the time of wheat harvest that Samson visited his wife with a kid, and he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber. But her father would not allow him to go in.

¹ ¶ They say, If a man puts away his wife and she goes from him and becomes another man’s, shall he return unto her again? Is she not a land that is now completely polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, said the LORD.

¹⁴ ¶ Therefore, behold, I will induce her and bring her into the wilderness and speak unto her heart.

¹⁹ Then Joseph her husband, being just and not willing to expose her publicly, desired to leave her secretly.

⁴ they said unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery in the very act. ⁵ Now Moses in the law commanded us that such should be stoned, but what sayest thou?

¹¹ And she said, No one, Lord. Then Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee; go and sin no more.

¹ ¶ Brethren, if anyone is overtaken in a fault, ye who are spiritual restore such a one in the spirit of meekness, considering thyself lest thou also be tempted.

⁵ and I will bring a morsel of bread and comfort your hearts; after that ye shall pass on because for this ye are come to your slave. And they said, So do as thou hast said.

⁸ And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart, and the damsel’s father said, Strengthen now thy heart. And after having eaten together, they tarried until afternoon.

²⁷ But Jonathan had not heard when his father charged the people with the oath, therefore, he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand and dipped it in a honeycomb and put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes were enlightened. ²⁸ Then one of the people spoke and said, Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying, Cursed be the man that eats any food this day. And the people were faint. ²⁹ Then Jonathan said, My father has troubled the land. See, I pray you, how my eyes have been enlightened because I tasted a little of this honey.

¹² and they gave him a piece of a cake of figs and two bunches of raisins. And when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him, for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights.

⁷ And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a gift.

¹⁵ and wine that makes glad the heart of man, making his face to shine with oil and bread which sustains man’s heart.

³⁴ Jesus said unto them, My food is to do the will of him that sent me and to finish his work.

¹⁹ And when he had received food, he was comforted. Then Saul was certain days with the disciples who were at Damascus.

²⁷ And they went out into the fields and gathered their vineyards and trod the grapes and made merry and went into the house of their gods and ate and drank and cursed Abimelech.

²⁵ And it came to pass when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson that he may make us laugh. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport, and they set him between the pillars.

⁷ And when Boaz had eaten and drunk and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap, and she came softly and uncovered his feet and lay down.

³⁶ ¶ And Abigail came to Nabal, and, behold, he held a banquet in his house like the banquet of a king; and Nabal’s heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken; therefore, she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.

¹⁰ ¶ On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven eunuchs that served in the presence of Ahasuerus, the king,

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction shall come upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

¹⁰ And those that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them and make merry and shall send gifts one to another because these two prophets tormented those that dwelt on the earth.

¹³ And in the same hour there was a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain the names of seven thousand men; and the others were frightened and gave glory to the God of heaven.

¹ ¶ Boast not thyself of tomorrow for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

²⁹ But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.

¹³ Come now, ye that say, Today and tomorrow we will go into such a city and continue there a year and buy and sell and get gain; ¹⁴ and ye do not know what shall be tomorrow. For what is your life? Certainly it is a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

⁸ and this border goes up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the side of the Jebusite towards the Negev; this is Jerusalem. Then this border goes up to the top of the mountain that is before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward;

⁶³ As for the Jebusites who inhabit Jerusalem, the sons of Judah could not drive them out; but the Jebusite remains in Jerusalem with the sons of Judah unto this day.

²⁸ Zelah, Eleph, Jebusi, which is Jerusalem, Gibeath and Kirjath: fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the sons of Benjamin according to their families.

⁸ Now the sons of Judah had fought against Jerusalem and had taken it and smitten it with the edge of the sword and set the city on fire.

⁶ ¶ Then the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, who dwelt in the land, who spoke unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in here, thinking, David cannot come in here.

⁴ Then David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, for there the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of that land. ⁵ And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not enter here. Nevertheless, David took the fortress of Zion, which is the city of David.

¹⁶ and Jebusite and Amorite and Girgasite

²¹ ¶ And the sons of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; thus the Jebusites dwell with the sons of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

¹⁰ But the man would not remain there that night, but he rose up and departed and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem, with his two asses saddled and with his concubine.

²⁵ Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth, ²⁶ Mizpeh, Chephirah, Mozah,

²⁶ And Saul also went home to Gibeah, and there went with him some from the army, whose hearts God had touched.

²⁹ They are gone over the fords; they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.

⁸ ¶ Blow ye the shofar in Gibeah and the trumpet in Ramah; sound the drum in Bethaven; after thee, O Benjamin.

² and he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, three men stood by him; and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door and bowed himself toward the ground ³ and said, My Lord, if now I have found grace in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy slave. ⁴ Let a little water, I pray you, be brought and wash your feet and rest yourselves under a tree; ⁵ and I will bring a morsel of bread and comfort your hearts; after that ye shall pass on because for this ye are come to your slave. And they said, So do as thou hast said. ⁶ And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make bread baked under the ashes. ⁷ And Abraham ran unto the herd and brought a calf tender and good and gave it unto a young man; and he hastened to dress it. ⁸ And he took butter and milk and the calf which he had dressed and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

² and he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your slave’s house and tarry all night and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early and go on your ways. And they said, No, but we will abide in the street all night. ³ And he pressed upon them greatly, and they turned in unto him and entered into his house, and he made them a banquet and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

¹⁸ And he said unto him, We are passing from Bethlehem of Judah toward the side of Mount Ephraim, where I am from, and I went to Bethlehem of Judah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD, and no one has received me in their house

³⁵ for I was hungry, and ye gave me food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in;

⁴³ I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick and in prison, and ye visited me not.

² Do not forget to show hospitality; for thereby some, having entertained angels, were kept.

¹⁹ in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread until thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken, for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

²³ Man goes forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.

² When thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands; happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

¹¹ ¶ The riches of vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labour shall increase.

²³ ¶ In all labour there is fruit, but to talk and not do, brings poverty.

²⁷ ¶ Prepare thy work without and make it fit for thyself in thine inheritance, and afterwards thou shalt build thine house.

¹³ And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven (this sore travail God has given to the sons of man that they be occupied in it).

¹² The sleep of the servant is sweet whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labour, working with his hands that which is good, that he may have to give to him that is in need.

¹¹ and that ye procure to be quiet and to do your business and to work with your hands, as we commanded you, ¹² that ye may walk honestly toward those that are without, and that ye may desire nothing from any one.

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, this we declared unto you, that if anyone desires not to work neither should he eat.

⁸ And he said, Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where didst thou come from and where wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

¹⁷ And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau, my brother, meets thee and asks thee, saying, Whose art thou? And where goest thou? And for whom are these before thee?

¹ ¶ And the whole congregation of the sons of Israel assembled together at Shiloh and set up the tabernacle of the testimony there after the land was subdued before them.

³¹ And they set up Micah’s graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.

⁵ And on the fourth day when they arose early in the morning, the Levite rose up to depart; and the damsel’s father said unto his son-in-law, Strengthen thy heart with a morsel of bread, and afterwards ye shall go.

¹⁸ ¶ Then the sons of Israel arose and went up to the house of God and asked counsel of God and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the sons of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah shall go up first.

³ And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of the hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

⁷ And this would happen year by year when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she would provoke her; therefore, she would weep and not eat.

⁹ Gather not my soul with the sinners, nor my life with those who have blood on their hands:

⁶ He who does not abide in me shall be cast forth as an unsound branch and shall wither, and they are gathered and cast into the fire and are burned.

³¹ And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the LORD; why dost thou stand outside? For I have prepared the house, and the place for the camels. ³² Then the man came into the house, and Laban ungirded his camels and gave straw and fodder for the camels and water to wash his feet and the men’s feet that were with him. ³³ And they set food before him to eat, but he said, I will not eat until I have told my errand. And he said unto him, Speak on.

²³ And he said, Peace be to you, fear not; your God, and the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks; I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them. ²⁴ And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house and gave them water, and they washed their feet, and he gave their asses fodder.

²³ And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; do not fear, thou shalt not die.

⁶ And thus shall ye say to him, May thou live and peace be unto thee and peace be unto thy house and peace be unto all that thou hast.

¹⁸ Then the spirit clothed himself in Amasai, who was chief of the thirty, and he said, For thee, O David, and with thee, thou son of Jesse. Peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thy helpers; for thy God helps thee. Then David received them and put them among the captains of the band.

⁵ And into whatever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. ⁶ And if indeed there is a son of peace there, your peace shall rest upon it; if not, it shall turn to you again.

²⁷ Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

¹³ sharing for the needs of the saints, and given to hospitality.

³ Grace be unto you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

⁶ Let the one that is taught in the word communicate unto the one that teaches in all good things.

¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says unto them, Depart in peace; be ye warmed and filled; but ye do not give them those things which are needful for the body; what shall it profit them?

⁹ Lovingly be hospitable one to another without murmuring.

¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

⁴ Let a little water, I pray you, be brought and wash your feet and rest yourselves under a tree;

²⁴ And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house and gave them water, and they washed their feet, and he gave their asses fodder.

⁴¹ And she arose and bowed herself on her face to the earth and said, Behold, let thy handmaid be a slave to wash the feet of the slaves of my lord.

⁸ And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and royal food was sent unto him.

⁴⁴ And he turned to the woman and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy house, thou didst give me no water for my feet; but she has washed my feet with tears and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

⁴ arose from the supper and laid aside his garments and took a towel and girded himself. ⁵ After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded.

¹⁴ If I then, the Lord and the Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you.

¹⁰ having a good testimony of good works, if she has brought up well her children, if she has exercised hospitality, if she has washed the feet of the saints, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.

⁴ ¶ But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter; ⁵ and they called unto Lot and said unto him, Where are the men who came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us that we may know them.

¹³ certain men, the sons of Belial, are gone out from among you and have incited the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known,

⁶ And the two of them sat down together and ate and drank. And the damsel’s father said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and thy heart shall be merry. ⁷ And when the man rose up to depart, his father-in-law urged him to remain and lodge there again.

⁵ And the men of Gibeah rose up against me and beset the house round about upon me by night and thought to have slain me, and they have forced my concubine in such a manner that she is dead.

¹⁶ Do not count thy handmaid for a daughter of Belial, for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief I have waited until now to speak.

¹² But the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they did not know the LORD.

²⁷ But the sons of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him and brought him no presents. But he pretended not to notice.

²⁵ Let not my lord, I pray thee, take to heart this man of Belial, even Nabal, for as his name is, so is he; Nabal {Heb. fool} is his name, and folly is with him; but I, thy handmaid, did not see the servants of my lord whom thou didst send.

⁶ but those of Belial shall all be as thorns to be chased away, whom no one takes with the hand; ⁷ but the one that desires to touch them must be armed with iron and the staff of a spear, and they are completely burned with fire in their place.

⁹ They have arrived at the depths, they have corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah; therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sin.

⁹ ¶ O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah; there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the sons of iniquity did not overtake them.

²⁶ For this cause God gave them up unto shameful affections, for even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature; ²⁷ and likewise also the males, leaving the natural use of the females, burned in their lust one toward another, males with males committing nefarious works and receiving in themselves the recompense that proceeded from their error.

⁹ ¶ Know ye not that the unjust shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor effeminate nor homosexuals

¹⁵ And what concord does Christ have with Belial? or what part do the faithful have with the unfaithful?

⁷ Even as Sodom and Gomorrha and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication and going after strange flesh, were set forth for an example, having received the judgment of eternal fire.

⁶ And Lot went out at the door unto them and shut the door after him ⁷ and said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.

⁷ And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it; and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter, a thing which ought not to be done.

¹⁵ And it shall be that he that is taken in the anathema shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he has because he has broken the covenant of the LORD and because he has wrought folly in Israel.

⁶ Then I took my concubine and cut her in pieces and sent her throughout all the country of the possession of Israel, for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.

¹² And she answered him, No, my brother, do not force me, for no such thing ought to be done in Israel. Do not commit this folly.

⁸ Behold now, I have two daughters who have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you and do ye to them as is good in your eyes; only unto these men do nothing, for they have come under the shadow of my roof.

² And when Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her and lay with her and defiled her.

¹⁴ And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go free, but thou shalt not sell her at all for money; thou shalt not make merchandise of her because thou hast humbled her.

⁸ And why not say (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), Let us do evil, that good may come? The condemnation of whom is just.

¹ ¶ And the man knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain and said, I have gained a man by the LORD.

⁷ How shall I pardon thee for this? Thy sons have forsaken me and sworn by them that are not gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots’ houses. ⁸ They were as fed horses in the morning; each one neighed after his neighbour’s wife.

⁴ They are all adulterers as an oven heated by the baker who shall cease from waking after he has kneaded the dough until it is leavened. ⁵ In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with a wineskin; he stretched out his hand with the scorners. ⁶ For they have made ready their heart like an oven while they lie in wait; their baker sleeps all night; in the morning it burns as a flaming fire. ⁷ They are all hot as an oven and have devoured their judges; all their kings are fallen; there is no one among them that calls unto me.

¹⁹ who, after losing all sense of feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness.

²⁹ And when midday was past, even so they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, and there was neither voice nor anyone that answered nor anyone that heard.

²² And when a man shall have committed a sin worthy of death, and he is to be put to death, and thou shall have hung him on a tree, ²³ his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt without fail bury him that same day (for he that is hanged is accursed of God) that thy land not be defiled, which the LORD thy God gives thee for an inheritance.

⁷ And he took a yoke of oxen and hewed them in pieces and sent them throughout all the borders of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whoever does not come forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

² For I give testimony that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

⁷ Behold, all ye sons of Israel; give here your advice and counsel.

¹⁴ ¶ When intelligence is lacking, the people shall fall, but in the multitude of counsellors there is salvation.

¹⁰ ¶ Pride shall certainly give birth to contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

²² ¶ Without counsel purposes are disappointed, but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

¹⁸ ¶ Every thought must be ordered by counsel, and with intelligence war is made.

⁶ For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war, and in the multitude of counsellors there is saving health.
