²⁶ ¶ And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, that he might bear it after Jesus.

³² And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name; him they compelled to bear his cross {Gr. stauros – stake}. ³³ ¶ And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, the place of a skull, ³⁴ they gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall; and when he had tasted of it, he would not drink. ³⁵ And they crucified him and parted his garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my raiment did they cast lots. ³⁶ And sitting down they watched him there ³⁷ and set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. ³⁸ Then there were two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand and another on the left. ³⁹ And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, Thou that wouldst destroy the temple and build it in three days, save thyself. If thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}. ⁴¹ Likewise also the princes of the priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, ⁴² He saved others; he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, and we will believe him. ⁴³ He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him, for he said, I am the Son of God. ⁴⁴ The thieves also, who were crucified with him, reproached him with the same.

²¹ And they compel one Simon, a Cyrenian, who passed by coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross {Gr. stauros – stake}. ²² ¶ And they brought him unto the place of Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull. ²³ And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh, but he received it not. ²⁴ And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take. ²⁵ And it was the third hour when they crucified him. ²⁶ And the inscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS. ²⁷ And with him they crucified two thieves: the one on his right hand and the other on his left. ²⁸ And the scripture was fulfilled, which says, And he was numbered with the transgressors. ²⁹ And those that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads and saying, Ah, thou that would destroy the temple of God and build it in three days, ³⁰ save thyself and come down from the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}. ³¹ Likewise also the princes of the priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save. ³² Let the Christ, King of Israel, descend now from the stake that we may see and believe. And those that were crucified {Gr. Stauroo – to hang on a stake} with him reviled him.

²³ And he said to them all, If anyone will come after me, let them deny themself and take up their cross {Gr. stauros – stake} daily and follow me.

²⁷ And whosoever does not bear his cross {Gr. stauros – stake} and come after me cannot be my disciple.

¹⁶ ¶ So that then, he delivered him unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus and led him away. ¹⁷ And he, bearing his cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew, Golgotha,

¹⁰ Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

⁶ these they set before the apostles, and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

⁹ Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians and Alexandrians and of those of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

¹ ¶ Now there were in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} that was at Antioch prophets and teachers: Barnabas and Simeon that was called Niger and Lucius of Cyrene and Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
