⁵ and as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?

¹⁷ So he came near where I stood, and with his coming, I was afraid and fell upon my face; and he said unto me, Understand, O son of man: for at the time appointed by God the vision shall be fulfilled. ¹⁸ Now as he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep on the ground upon my face; and he touched me and changed my state.

⁷ And only I, Daniel, saw that vision: for the men that were with me did not see the vision; but a great fear fell upon them, and they fled and hid themselves. ⁸ Therefore I was left alone and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me, for my strength was turned into dismay, and I retained no strength. ⁹ Yet I heard the voice of his words, and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I placed into a deep sleep on my face, and my face was toward the ground. ¹⁰ ¶ And, behold, a hand touched me and caused me to move upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. ¹¹ And he said unto me, Daniel, O man greatly beloved, pay attention to the words that I shall speak unto thee, and stand up upon thy feet: for I am sent now unto thee. And as he was speaking this with me, I was trembling. ¹² And he said unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst give thy heart to understand and to afflict thy soul before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come because of thy words.

¹⁶ And, behold, one like the similitude of the son of man touched my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke and said unto him that stood before me, O my Lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.

¹⁹ and said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be of good cheer, and be well. And as he spoke unto me, I was strengthened and said, Let my Lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

³ His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow; ⁴ and for fear of him the guards shook and became as dead men. ⁵ And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye, for I know that ye seek Jesus, who was crucified.

⁵ And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting to the right hand side, covered in a long white garment; and they were frightened. ⁶ But he said unto them, Do not be frightened; Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified; he is risen; he is not here; behold the place where they laid him.

¹² And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. ¹³ But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias, for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

²⁹ And when she saw him, she was troubled at his words and wondered in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

³ He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him and saying unto him, Cornelius. ⁴ And when he looked on him, he was afraid and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms {lit. thine acts of mercy} are come up for a memorial before God.

⁸ In the same manner, here men that die take tithes; but there he received them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives.

¹⁸ and he that lives and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen, and have the keys of Hades and of death.
