¹ ¶ And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples said unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here! ² And Jesus, answering, said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? There shall not be left one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down. ³ And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, ⁴ Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all things are to be finished? ⁵ ¶ And Jesus, answering them, began to say, Take heed that no one deceive you, ⁶ for many shall come in my name, saying, I Am Christ, and shall deceive many. ⁷ And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled, for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. ⁸ For people shall rise against people and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be earthquakes in each place, and there shall be famines and troubles: these shall be the beginnings of sorrows. ⁹ But take heed to yourselves, for they shall deliver you up in the councils, and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten; and ye shall be called before rulers and kings for my sake for a testimony unto them. ¹⁰ And the gospel needs to be preached unto all the Gentiles first. ¹¹ But when they shall bring you to deliver you up, do not premeditate beforehand what ye shall speak, neither think ye regarding it, but whatever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye, for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Spirit. ¹² Now the brother shall deliver the brother unto death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents and shall kill them. ¹³ And ye shall be hated by everyone for my name, but he that shall persevere unto the end, the same shall be saved. ¹⁴ ¶ But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation (spoken of by Daniel the prophet) standing where it ought not, he that reads, let him understand, then let those that are in Judaea flee to the mountains; ¹⁵ and let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein to take any thing out of his house; ¹⁶ and let him that is in the field not turn back again even to take up his garment. ¹⁷ But woe to those that are with child and to those that give suck in those days! ¹⁸ Pray, therefore, that your flight not be in winter. ¹⁹ For those days shall be of affliction such as never was from the beginning of the creation of the things which God created unto this time, neither shall be. ²⁰ And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved, but for the elect’s sake, whom he has chosen, he has shortened those days. ²¹ And then if anyone should say to you, Behold, here is the Christ, or, Behold, he is there, do not believe him; ²² for false Christs and false prophets shall rise and shall show signs and wonders to seduce, if possible, even the elect. ²³ But take ye heed; behold, I have told you everything beforehand. ²⁴ ¶ But in those days after that affliction, the sun shall darken, and the moon shall not give her light, ²⁵ and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens shall be shaken. ²⁶ And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. ²⁷ And then shall he send his angels and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth unto the uttermost part of the heaven. ²⁸ ¶ Learn the similitude from the fig tree: When her branch is yet tender and puts forth leaves, ye know that summer is near; ²⁹ so ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is near, even at the doors. ³⁰ Verily I say unto you that this generation shall not pass until all these things are done. ³¹ Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. ³² But of that day and that hour no one knows, no, not even the angels who are in the heaven, neither the Son, but only the Father. ³³ Take ye heed, watch and pray; for ye know not when the time shall be. ³⁴ As the man who, taking a far journey, left his house and gave his estate to his slaves and to each one his responsibility and commanded the porter to watch. ³⁵ Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the Lord of the house comes: at evening or at midnight or at the cockcrowing or in the morning, ³⁶ lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. ³⁷ And what I say unto you, I say unto all: Watch.

²⁰ Because they turned the glory of his ornament into pride and made in her the images of their abominations of their statues; therefore I have set it far from them. ²¹ And I gave it into the hands of the strangers for a prey and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; and they shall pollute it. ²² I will also turn my face from them, and they shall pollute my secret place, for the destroyers shall enter into it and defile it.

⁶ He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel commits here to cause me to go far away from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations.

⁴ And the glory of the LORD had gone up from the cherubim to the threshold of the door, and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’s glory.

¹⁹ And the cherubim lifted up their wings and mounted up from the earth in my sight; when they went out, the wheels also were in front of them, and they stood at the entrance of the east gate of the LORD’s house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.

²² ¶ Then the cherubim lifted up their wings and the wheels after them; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above. ²³ And the glory of the LORD went up from the midst of the city and stood upon the mountain which is on the east side of the city.

¹ ¶ Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, and the angel of the covenant, whom ye desire: behold, he comes, said the LORD of the hosts. ² But who may abide the time of his coming? and who shall stand when he appears? for he shall be like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap:

¹ ¶ And Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and his disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple. ² And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down. ³ And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming and of the end of the age? ⁴ ¶ And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no one deceive you. ⁵ For many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ, and shall deceive many. ⁶ And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars; see that ye be not troubled, for it is necessary that all these things must take place; but the end is not yet. ⁷ For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be famines and pestilences and earthquakes in different places. ⁸ All these are the beginning of sorrows. ⁹ Then they shall deliver you up to be afflicted and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. ¹⁰ And then shall many be offended and shall betray one another and shall hate one another. ¹¹ And many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many. ¹² And because lawlessness shall abound, the charity of many shall wax cold. ¹³ But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. ¹⁴ And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come. ¹⁵ Therefore, when ye see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, which shall stand in the holy place (whosoever reads, let him understand), ¹⁶ then let those who are in Judaea flee into the mountains; ¹⁷ let him who is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house, ¹⁸ neither let him who is in the field return back to take his clothes. ¹⁹ And woe unto those that are with child and to those that give suck in those days! ²⁰ But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter neither on the sabbath day, ²¹ for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. ²² And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. ²³ Then if any man shall say unto you, Behold, here is the Christ, or there, believe it not. ²⁴ For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders in such a manner that they shall deceive, if possible, the very elect. ²⁵ Behold, I have told you before. ²⁶ Therefore if they say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert, go not forth; Behold, he is in the secret chambers, believe it not. ²⁷ For as the lightning that comes out of the east and shines even unto the west, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. ²⁸ For wherever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together. ²⁹ Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken, ³⁰ and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven, and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with great power and glory. ³¹ And he shall send his angels with a trumpet and a great voice, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. ³² ¶ Now learn a parable of the fig tree: When his branch is yet tender and puts forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh; ³³ so likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. ³⁴ Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass until all these things are fulfilled. ³⁵ The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. ³⁶ But of that day and hour no one knows, no, not even the angels of the heavens, but my Father only. ³⁷ But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. ³⁸ For as they were in the days before the flood, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ and they knew not until the flood came and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. ⁴⁰ Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken and the other left. ⁴¹ Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken and the other left. ⁴² Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. ⁴³ But know this that if the husband of the house knew in what watch the thief would come, he would watch and would not suffer his house to be broken into. ⁴⁴ Therefore be ye also ready; the Son of man is to come in the hour that ye think not. ⁴⁵ Who then is the faithful and prudent slave, whom his lord has made ruler over his household to give them food in due season? ⁴⁶ Blessed is that slave whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing. ⁴⁷ Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. ⁴⁸ But and if that evil slave shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming, ⁴⁹ and shall begin to smite his fellowslaves and even to eat and drink with the drunken, ⁵⁰ the lord of that slave shall come in a day when he does not look for him and in an hour that he is not aware of ⁵¹ and shall cut him off and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁵ ¶ And as some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said, ⁶ As for these things which ye behold, the days will come in which there shall not be left one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down. ⁷ And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall begin to come to pass? ⁸ Then he said, Take heed that ye not be deceived, for many shall come in my name, saying, I am; and the time draws near; therefore, go ye not after them. ⁹ But when ye shall hear of wars and seditions, be not terrified; for these things must first come to pass, but the end is not yet. ¹⁰ Then he said unto them, Gentiles shall rise against Gentiles, and kingdom against kingdom; ¹¹ and there shall be great earthquakes in different places and famines and pestilences, and there shall be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. ¹² But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and into prisons, being brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake. ¹³ And it shall turn out to you for a testimony. ¹⁴ Settle it therefore in your hearts not to meditate before what ye shall answer; ¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. ¹⁶ And ye shall be betrayed both by parents and brethren and kinsfolk and friends, and some of you they shall cause to be put to death. ¹⁷ And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake. ¹⁸ But not a hair of your head shall perish. ¹⁹ In your patience ye shall possess your souls. ²⁰ ¶ And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is near. ²¹ Then let those who are in Judaea flee to the mountains, and let those who are in the midst of it depart out, and let not those that are in the country enter thereinto. ²² For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. ²³ But woe unto those that are with child and to those that give suck in those days! For there shall be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. ²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword and shall be led away captive into all nations, and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. ²⁵ Then there shall be signs in the sun and in the moon and in the stars, and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; ²⁶ men’s hearts failing them for fear and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth; for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. ²⁷ And then they shall see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. ²⁸ And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up and lift up your heads, for your redemption draws near. ²⁹ ¶ And he spoke unto them a parable: Behold the fig tree and all the trees; ³⁰ when they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now near at hand. ³¹ So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is near at hand. ³² Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away until all is fulfilled. ³³ The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. ³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with excess and drunkenness and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. ³⁵ For as a snare it shall come on all those that dwell on the face of the whole earth. ³⁶ Watch ye therefore and pray always that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass and to stand before the Son of man.

⁷ I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them, and this house, which I have sanctified unto my name, I will cast out of my sight, and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples; ⁸ and at this house, which was high, any one that passes by it shall be astonished and shall hiss, and they shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land and to this house?

²⁰ I will pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, I will cast out of my presence, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all peoples. ²¹ And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passes by it, so that they shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land and unto this house?

¹⁸ Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah and spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the temple mount as the high places of a forest.

¹² Therefore for your sake Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

² And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down.

⁴¹ ¶ And when he was come near, he beheld the city and wept over it, ⁴² saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. ⁴³ For the days shall come upon thee that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee and compass thee round and constrain thee on every side ⁴⁴ and shall cast thee down to the ground and thy children within thee, and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

⁶ As for these things which ye behold, the days will come in which there shall not be left one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down.

¹⁴ for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place and shall change the traditions which Moses delivered us.

² But leave out the court which is within the temple and measure it not, for it is given unto the Gentiles, and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty-two months.

¹⁰ Then the disciples came and said unto him, Why dost thou speak unto them in parables?

³⁶ Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house, and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

¹ ¶ And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, his brother, and brought them apart up into a high mountain

¹ ¶ And when they drew near unto Jerusalem and were come to Bethphage unto the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,

³ And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming and of the end of the age?

¹⁶ Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers. ¹⁷ And Jesus said unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. ¹⁸ And straightway they forsook their nets and followed him. ¹⁹ And when he had gone a little further from there, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.

³⁴ But without a parable he did not speak unto them; and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

³⁷ And he suffered no one to follow him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

² And six days afterwards Jesus took Peter and James and John, and separated them apart by themselves unto a high mountain; and he was transfigured before them.

³⁵ Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou should do for us whatever we shall ask.

³³ And he takes with him Peter and James and John and began to be alarmed and to be anguished

⁴⁰ One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, brother of Simon Peter. ⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon and said unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

⁶ And one said to the Man clothed in linens, who was upon the waters of the river, When shall be the end of these wonders?

⁸ And I heard, but I did not understand; then I said, O my Lord, what is the fulfillment of these things?

⁷ And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall begin to come to pass?

²¹ Peter seeing him said to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? ²² Jesus said unto him, If I will that he tarry until I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

⁶ ¶ Then those that were come together asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? ⁷ And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put under his authority only.

⁸ ¶ For thus hath the LORD of the hosts the God of Israel said: Let not your prophets and your diviners that are in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye dream.

⁴ ¶ And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no one deceive you. ⁵ For many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ, and shall deceive many.

⁸ Then he said, Take heed that ye not be deceived, for many shall come in my name, saying, I am; and the time draws near; therefore, go ye not after them.

³³ Be not deceived: evil companions corrupt good character.

⁶ Let no one deceive you with vain words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

⁸ Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the traditions of men, according to the elements of the world, and not after Christ.

³ ¶ Let no one deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come except there come a falling away first and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition,

¹ ¶ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

⁷ And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison ⁸ and shall go out to deceive the Gentiles which are upon the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle; the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

¹⁴ Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I did not send them, neither have I commanded them, neither did I speak unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision, divination, vanity, and the deceit of their heart.

²¹ I did not send those prophets, yet they ran; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied. ²² But if they had stood in my secret, they would also have caused my people to hear my words, and they would have caused them to return from their evil way and from the evil of their doings. ²³ Am I a God of the near only, said the LORD, and not a God of the far? ²⁴ Can any hide himself in hiding places that I shall not see him? said the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? said the LORD. ²⁵ I have heard what those prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.

⁵ For many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ, and shall deceive many.

¹¹ And many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many.

²³ Then if any man shall say unto you, Behold, here is the Christ, or there, believe it not. ²⁴ For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders in such a manner that they shall deceive, if possible, the very elect.

²² for false Christs and false prophets shall rise and shall show signs and wonders to seduce, if possible, even the elect.

⁴³ I have come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not; if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

²⁴ Therefore I said unto you that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye do not believe that I AM, ye shall die in your sins.

³⁶ For before these days, rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves; who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered and brought to nought. ³⁷ After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing and drew away many people after him; he also perished, and all those that consented with him were dispersed. ³⁸ And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men and let them alone; for if this counsellor or this work is of men, it will come to nought, ³⁹ but if it is of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest ye be found fighting against God.

¹⁴ For it is certain that we die and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither does God respect any person; yet he does devise means that his outcasts not be expelled from him.

³ Though a host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

¹ To the Overcomer:
for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. ¶ God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in tribulation. ² Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be removed and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea, ³ though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the violence thereof. ⁷ Mem He shall not be afraid of evil rumours; Nun his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.

²⁵ Thou shall not be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked when it comes.

¹² Do not say, A confederacy, to all those to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear their fear, nor be afraid.

¹⁹ ¶ My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the shofar, the alarm of war. ²⁰ Destruction upon destruction is cried, for the whole land is destroyed; suddenly are my tents destroyed, and my curtains in a moment. ²¹ How long shall I see the banner and hear the voice of the shofar?

⁴⁶ And lest your heart faint, and ye fear because of the news that shall be heard in the land; in one year shall the news come, and after that in the next year shall come the rumour, and then shall come the violence in the land, and the ruler over him who rules.

⁷ ¶ Woe unto the world because of offenses! For it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!

⁶ And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars; see that ye be not troubled, for it is necessary that all these things must take place; but the end is not yet. ⁷ For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be famines and pestilences and earthquakes in different places.

⁹ But when ye shall hear of wars and seditions, be not terrified; for these things must first come to pass, but the end is not yet. ¹⁰ Then he said unto them, Gentiles shall rise against Gentiles, and kingdom against kingdom; ¹¹ and there shall be great earthquakes in different places and famines and pestilences, and there shall be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.

¹ ¶ Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me.

²⁷ Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

³ declaring openly and proposing that it behooved the Christ to have suffered and risen again from the dead and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is the Christ.

⁶ And one Gentile destroyed the other, and one city the other; for God discomforted them with all adversity.

⁶ Fear took hold upon them there and pain as of a woman in travail.

² And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians, and they shall fight each one against his brother, and each one against his neighbour; city against city and kingdom against kingdom.

³ And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble and of rebuke and of blasphemy, for the sons are come to the breaking of the water, and there is no strength in her who is to bring them forth.

³¹ For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of her that brings forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewails herself, that spreads her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is faint because of the murderers.

²⁴ We have heard the fame thereof; our hands wax feeble; anguish has taken hold of us, and pain as of a woman in travail.

²¹ What wilt thou say when he shall visit thee? For thou hast taught them to be princes and as head over thee; shall not sorrows take thee as a woman in travail?

²³ Thou didst inhabit Lebanon, thou didst make thy nest in the cedars. How shalt thou cry out when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!

³² Thus saith the LORD of the hosts, Behold, the evil goes forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

²⁴ Damascus is waxed feeble and turns herself to flee, and fear has seized on her; anguish and sorrows have taken her as a woman in travail.

⁴³ The king of Babylon has heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble; anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.

⁹ Now why dost thou cry out aloud? is there no king in thee? is thy counsellor perished? for pangs have taken thee as a woman in travail. ¹⁰ Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail; for now thou shalt go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.

²² and I will overthrow the throne of the kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdom of the Gentiles, and I will overthrow the chariot and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, each one by the sword of his brother.

¹³ And it shall come to pass in that day that a great destruction from the LORD shall be in them, for they shall lay hold each one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.

⁸ All these are the beginning of sorrows.

²⁸ And one of them named Agabus stood up and signified by the Spirit that there should be great famine throughout all the world, which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction shall come upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

⁴ And another horse went forth that was red, and unto him that was seated thereon was given power to take away the peace of the earth and that they should kill one another; and there was given unto him a great sword.

¹⁷ But keep yourselves from men, for they will deliver you up in councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; ¹⁸ and ye shall even be brought before princes and kings for my sake, for testimony unto them and to the Gentiles.

³⁴ ¶ Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets and wise men and scribes, and some of them ye shall kill and crucify, and some of them ye shall scourge in your synagogues and persecute them from city to city, ³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that didst kill the prophets and stone those who are sent unto thee, how often I desired to gather thy children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

⁹ Then they shall deliver you up to be afflicted and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. ¹⁰ And then shall many be offended and shall betray one another and shall hate one another.

⁴⁴ and said unto him, See thou say nothing to any man, but go, show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

¹¹ And whosoever shall not receive you nor hear you, when ye depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet in testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment than for that city.

⁵ ¶ And Jesus, answering them, began to say, Take heed that no one deceive you,

⁵ And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.

¹⁶ And ye shall be betrayed both by parents and brethren and kinsfolk and friends, and some of you they shall cause to be put to death. ¹⁷ And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake. ¹⁸ But not a hair of your head shall perish.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said unto you, The slave is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues, and the hour will even come when whosoever kills you will think that he does God service.

¹ ¶ And as they spoke unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, ² resentful that they taught the people and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. ³ And they laid hands on them and put them in jail unto the next day, for it was now evening. ⁴ But many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of the men was about five thousand. ⁵ ¶ And it came to pass on the next day that their princes and elders and scribes ⁶ and Annas, the high priest, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest were gathered together at Jerusalem. ⁷ And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power or by what name have ye done this? ⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, Ye princes of the people and elders of Israel, ⁹ if we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole, ¹⁰ be it known unto you all and to all the people of Israel that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him does this man stand here before you whole. ¹¹ This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. ¹² Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men in which we can be saved. ¹³ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled, and they took knowledge of them that they had been with Jesus. ¹⁴ And beholding the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. ¹⁵ ¶ But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, ¹⁶ saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle has been done by them is manifest to all those that dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. ¹⁷ But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them that from now on they speak to no man in this name. ¹⁸ And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. ¹⁹ Then Peter and John answered and said unto them, Judge whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God. ²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. ²¹ So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way how they might punish them because of the people, for everyone glorified God for that which was done.

¹⁷ ¶ Then the prince of the priests rose up, and all those that were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees) were filled with jealousy ¹⁸ and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison. ¹⁹ But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors and brought them forth and said, ²⁰ Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life. ²¹ And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning and taught. In the meantime, the prince of the priests came, and those that were with him, and called the council together and all the elders of the sons of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought. ²² But when the officers came and found them not in the prison, they returned and told, ²³ saying, We certainly found the prison shut with all security and the keepers standing outside before the doors, but when we had opened, we found no one within. ²⁴ Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the princes of the priests heard these things, they were perplexed regarding what this would come to. ²⁵ Then someone came and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people. ²⁶ ¶ Then the captain with the officers went and brought them without violence, for they feared being stoned by the people. ²⁷ And when they had brought them, they set them before the council, and the prince of the priests asked them, ²⁸ saying, Did we not strictly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us. ²⁹ Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We must persuade God rather than men. ³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew, hanging him on a tree. ³¹ God has exalted him with his right hand as Prince and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. ³² And we are his witnesses of these things, and so is also the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those that persuade him. ³³ When they heard that, they were divided and took counsel to slay them. ³⁴ Then a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, who had a reputation among all the people, stood up in the council and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space ³⁵ and said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as concerning these men. ³⁶ For before these days, rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves; who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered and brought to nought. ³⁷ After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing and drew away many people after him; he also perished, and all those that consented with him were dispersed. ³⁸ And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men and let them alone; for if this counsellor or this work is of men, it will come to nought, ³⁹ but if it is of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest ye be found fighting against God. ⁴⁰ And they agreed with him; and when they had called the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus and let them go.

¹¹ Then they suborned men, who said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God. ¹² And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes and came upon him and caught him and brought him to the council ¹³ and set up false witnesses, who said, This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law, ¹⁴ for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place and shall change the traditions which Moses delivered us. ¹⁵ Then all that sat in the council, looking steadfastly on him, saw his face as the face of an angel.

⁵⁴ ¶ When they heard these things, they were divided in their hearts and gnashed on him with their teeth.

¹ ¶ And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, came unto the prince of the priests ² and asked him for letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

¹³ Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, of how much evil he has done to thy saints in Jerusalem, ¹⁴ and even here he has authority from the princes of the priests to bind all that call on thy name.

¹⁶ for I will show him how much it behooves him to suffer for my name.

¹ ¶ Now at that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to mistreat certain of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}. ² And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. ³ And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

²⁰ and brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city ²¹ and teach rites which are not lawful for us to receive neither to observe, being Romans. ²² And the multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates rent off their clothes and commanded to beat them. ²³ And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely, ²⁴ who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison and made their feet fast in the stocks.

¹¹ And when he was come unto us, he took Paul’s girdle and bound his own hands and feet and said, Thus saith the Holy Spirit, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owns this girdle and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

³¹ And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the tribunal of the company that all Jerusalem was in an uproar ³² who immediately took soldiers and centurions and ran down unto them; and when they saw the tribunal and the soldiers, they left off beating Paul. ³³ Then the tribunal came near and took him and commanded him to be bound with two chains and demanded to know who he was and what he had done. ³⁴ And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude; and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the fortress. ³⁵ And when he came upon the stairs, so it was that he was borne of the soldiers because of the violence of the people. ³⁶ For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, Away with him. ³⁷ And as Paul was to be led into the fortress, he said unto the tribunal, May I speak unto thee? Who said, Canst thou speak Greek? ³⁸ Art not thou that Egyptian, who before these days made an uproar and led four thousand men out into the wilderness that were murderers? ³⁹ But Paul said, I am certainly a Jew, a citizen of Tarsus, a city known in Cilicia; and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people. ⁴⁰ And when he had given him license, Paul stood on the stairs and beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was made a great silence, he spoke unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,

¹⁹ And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and in every synagogue beat those that believed on thee; ²⁰ and when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by and consenting unto his death and kept the raiment of those that slew him.

¹ ¶ Then Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day. ² And the prince of the priests, Ananias, commanded those that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

¹ ¶ And after five days Ananias, the prince of the priests, descended with the elders and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul. ² And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great peace and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy prudence, ³ we accept it always and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness. ⁴ Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou would hear us of thy clemency a few words. ⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world and prince of the seditious sect of the Nazarenes, ⁶ who also has gone about to profane the temple, whom we took and would have judged according to our law. ⁷ But the tribunal Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands, ⁸ commanding his accusers to come unto thee; by examining of whom thou may take knowledge of all these things, of which we accuse him. ⁹ And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.

¹ ¶ Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Caesarea to Jerusalem. ² Then the prince of the priests and the principals of the Jews informed him against Paul and besought him, ³ asking for grace against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, they placing an ambush in the way to kill him. ⁴ But Festus answered that Paul should be kept at Caesarea and that he himself would depart shortly there. ⁵ Let them, therefore, said he, who among you are able, go down with me and accuse this man, if there is anything in him. ⁶ And when he had tarried among them no more than ten days, he went down unto Caesarea and the next day, sitting on the judgment seat, commanded Paul to be brought. ⁷ And when he was come, the Jews who came down from Jerusalem stood round about and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove. ⁸ While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar have I sinned in anything at all. ⁹ But Festus, willing to ingratiate himself with the Jews, answered Paul and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me? ¹⁰ Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged; to the Jews I have done no wrong, as thou very well knowest. ¹¹ For if I am an offender or have committed anything worthy of death, I do not refuse to die; but if there are none of these things of which these accuse me, no one may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Caesar. ¹² Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Caesar? unto Caesar shalt thou go. ¹³ ¶ And after certain days King Agrippa and Bernice came unto Caesarea to salute Festus. ¹⁴ And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul’s cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix, ¹⁵ about whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the princes of the priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have vengeance against him. ¹⁶ To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before the one who is accused is face to face with his accusers and is given license to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him. ¹⁷ Therefore, when they were come here, without any delay on the next day I sat on the judgment seat and commanded the man to be brought forth. ¹⁸ Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought no accusation of such things as I supposed, ¹⁹ but had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive. ²⁰ And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem and there be judged of these matters. ²¹ But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept until I might send him to Caesar. ²² Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. Tomorrow, said he, thou shalt hear him. ²³ And the next day when Agrippa was come and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing, with the tribunals and principal men of the city, at Festus’ commandment, Paul was brought forth. ²⁴ Then Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men who are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer. ²⁵ But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death and that he himself has appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him. ²⁶ Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Therefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O King Agrippa, that, after examination, I might have something to write.

⁹ For I think that God has set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death; for we are made a spectacle unto the world and to angels and to men. ¹⁰ We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are prudent in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even unto this present hour we both hunger and thirst and are ill clad and are buffeted and have no certain dwellingplace ¹² and labour, working with our own hands; being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it; ¹³ being blasphemed, we intreat; we are made as the filth of this world and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more, in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths often. ²⁴ Of the Jews five times I received forty stripes less one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned; three times I suffered shipwreck, night and day I have been in the deep; ²⁶ in journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by those of my nation, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; ²⁷ in labour and travail, in many watches, in hunger and thirst, in many fasts, in cold and nakedness.

²⁹ For unto you it is granted regarding Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake,

⁵ ¶ in testimony of the just judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer,

⁹ ¶ I John, your brother and participant in the tribulation and in the kingdom and in the patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

¹⁰ Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer; behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days; be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee the crown of life.

¹³ I know thy works and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s throne is, and thou holdest fast my name and hast not denied my faith, even in those days in which Antipas was my faithful witness, {or martyr}, who was slain among you, where Satan dwellest.

⁹ ¶ And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those that had been slain because of the word of God and for the testimony which they held: ¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on those that dwell in the earth? ¹¹ And white robes were given unto each one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little while until their fellow servants and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

¹⁴ And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. ¹⁹ Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

⁸ ¶ First, I thank my God through Jesus, the Christ, regarding you all, that your faith is preached in all the world.

¹⁸ But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their fame went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

¹⁹ with power of signs and wonders, in virtue of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem and round about unto Illyricum, I have filled the entire area with the gospel of the Christ.

⁶ which is come unto you, as it is in all the world, and brings forth fruit, as it does also in you, since the day ye heard it and knew the grace of God in truth,

²³ if ye continue in the faith grounded and settled and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard and which is preached to every creature which is under heaven, of which I Paul am made a minister,

⁶ ¶ And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the eternal gospel that he might evangelize those that dwell on the earth and every nation and kindred and tongue and people,

¹⁰ ¶ Then Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither up until now, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy slave; but I am slow of speech and of a slow tongue. ¹¹ And the LORD said unto him, Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the dumb or the deaf or the seeing or the blind? Am not I the LORD? ¹² Now therefore go and I will be with thy mouth and teach thee what thou shalt say.

² (The Spirit of the LORD has spoken by me, and his word has been in my tongue.

⁴ ¶ The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of the wise that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary; he wakes up early, early shall he awaken my ear, that I might hear, as the wise.

⁶ Then I said, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I do not know how to speak: for I am a child. ⁷ But the LORD said unto me, Do not say, I am a child; for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. ⁸ Do not be afraid of their faces; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. ⁹ Then the LORD put forth his hand and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, We are not careful to answer thee in this matter. ¹⁷ Behold, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. ¹⁸ But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not worship thy god, nor honour the statue which thou hast raised up.

¹⁷ But keep yourselves from men, for they will deliver you up in councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

¹⁹ But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak, for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. ²⁰ For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. ²¹ And brother shall deliver up brother unto death, and the father the child, and children shall rise up against their parents and cause them to be put to death.

⁹ But take heed to yourselves, for they shall deliver you up in the councils, and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten; and ye shall be called before rulers and kings for my sake for a testimony unto them.

¹¹ And when they bring you unto the synagogues and unto magistrates and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer or what ye shall say; ¹² for the Holy Spirit shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

¹⁴ Settle it therefore in your hearts not to meditate before what ye shall answer; ¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

²⁷ John answered and said, A man can receive nothing except it is given him from the heaven.

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

¹³ The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus, whom ye delivered up and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he had judged to let him go.

³¹ And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

¹⁰ And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

¹⁵ Then all that sat in the council, looking steadfastly on him, saw his face as the face of an angel.

⁵⁵ But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing on the right hand of God

¹³ Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but with doctrine of the Holy Spirit, jointly fitting spiritual things by spiritual means.

⁵ which in other generations was not made known unto the sons of men as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit,

¹⁹ ¶ and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth with confidence, to make known the mystery of the gospel, ²⁰ for which I am an ambassador in chains, that in this I may speak boldly as I ought to speak.

⁵ And if any of you lacks wisdom, let them ask of God (who gives abundantly to all, and without reproach), and it shall be given them.

¹² Unto whom it was revealed that not unto themselves, but unto us they did administer the things, which are now announced unto you by those that have preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven, which things the angels desire to look into.

²¹ And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, said the Lord GOD: each man’s sword shall be against his brother.

⁴ The best of them is as a brier; the most upright as a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen, thy visitation, comes; now shall be their confusion. ⁵ Do not believe in a friend, do not trust in a prince; from her that lies at thy side, take care, open not thy mouth. ⁶ For the son dishonours the father, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies are those of his own house.

²¹ And brother shall deliver up brother unto death, and the father the child, and children shall rise up against their parents and cause them to be put to death.

¹⁰ And then shall many be offended and shall betray one another and shall hate one another.

⁵² for from now on there shall be five in one house divided: three against two and two against three. ⁵³ The father shall be divided against the son and the son against the father, the mother against the daughter and the daughter against the mother, the mother-in-law against her daughter- in-law and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

¹⁶ And ye shall be betrayed both by parents and brethren and kinsfolk and friends, and some of you they shall cause to be put to death.

¹² Blessed is he that waits and comes unto one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.

¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely for my sake. ¹² Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in the heavens; for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

²² And ye shall be hated of all men for my name, but he that endures to the end shall be saved.

⁹ Then they shall deliver you up to be afflicted and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

¹³ But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you and when they shall separate you from their company and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil for the sake of the Son of man.

¹⁷ And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.

¹⁸ ¶ If the world hates you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. ¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own; but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

²¹ But they will do all these things unto you for my name’s sake, because they do not know him that sent me.

¹⁴ I have given them thy word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

⁷ to those who persevered in well doing, glory and honour and incorruption, to those who seek eternal life;

⁹ And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not.

¹⁴ For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end;

³⁹ But we are not of those who draw back unto perdition, but faithful unto the saving of the soul.

¹² Blessed is the man that patiently endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those that love him.

¹³ Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hates you.

¹⁰ Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the entire world, to try those that dwell upon the earth.

¹⁰ Jod The enemy has spread out his hand upon all her precious things, and she saw the Gentiles enter into her sanctuary, whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thy congregation.

⁹ Thus hath the Lord GOD said; No son of a stranger, uncircumcised in heart nor uncircumcised in flesh shall enter into my sanctuary, of any sons of strangers that are among the sons of Israel.

¹³ Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto the one which spoke, How long shall the vision of the daily sacrifice last and the prevarication of desolation that places both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

²⁷ In one week (they are now seventy) he shall confirm the covenant by many: and at the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and because of the many abominations, desolation shall come, even until complete destruction shall be poured out upon the abominable people.

³¹ And arms shall be placed on his behalf, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that makes desolate.

¹¹ And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away until the abomination of desolation, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

⁵¹ Jesus said unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They answered unto him, Yes, Lord.

¹⁵ Therefore, when ye see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, which shall stand in the holy place (whosoever reads, let him understand), ¹⁶ then let those who are in Judaea flee into the mountains; ¹⁷ let him who is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house, ¹⁸ neither let him who is in the field return back to take his clothes. ¹⁹ And woe unto those that are with child and to those that give suck in those days! ²⁰ But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter neither on the sabbath day, ²¹ for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. ²² And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. ²³ Then if any man shall say unto you, Behold, here is the Christ, or there, believe it not. ²⁴ For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders in such a manner that they shall deceive, if possible, the very elect. ²⁵ Behold, I have told you before. ²⁶ Therefore if they say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert, go not forth; Behold, he is in the secret chambers, believe it not. ²⁷ For as the lightning that comes out of the east and shines even unto the west, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. ²⁸ For wherever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

²⁰ ¶ And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is near. ²¹ Then let those who are in Judaea flee to the mountains, and let those who are in the midst of it depart out, and let not those that are in the country enter thereinto. ²² For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. ²³ But woe unto those that are with child and to those that give suck in those days! For there shall be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. ²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword and shall be led away captive into all nations, and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

³⁰ And Philip ran there to him and heard him read the prophet Isaiah and said, Dost thou understand what thou readest? ³¹ And he said, How can I, except someone should guide me? And he besought Philip to come up and sit with him.

⁷ And even things without life giving sound, whether flute or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is played or harped? ⁸ For if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?

²⁰ Brothers, be not children in understanding, howbeit in malice be ye children; but in understanding be perfect.

³ ¶ Blessed is he that reads and those that hear the words of this prophecy and keep those things which are written therein, for the time is at hand.

¹⁸ Here is wisdom. Let him that has understanding count the number of the beast: for the number of man; and its number is six hundred sixty-six.

¹⁵ ¶ And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife and thy two daughters who are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. ¹⁶ And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand and upon the hand of his wife and upon the hand of his two daughters, the LORD being merciful unto him; and they brought him forth and set him outside the city. ¹⁷ And it came to pass as they brought them forth outside, that he said, Escape; for thy soul, do not look behind thee, neither stop thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.

²² Make thee haste, escape there; for I cannot do anything until thou hast arrived there. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.

²⁶ ¶ Then the wife of Lot looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

⁴ And Satan answered the LORD and said, Skin for skin, all that a man has he will give for his life.

⁴ Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids. ⁵ Escape as a roe from the hand of the hunter and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

³ ¶ A prudent man foresees the evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and receive hurt.

¹⁶ then let those who are in Judaea flee into the mountains; ¹⁷ let him who is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house, ¹⁸ neither let him who is in the field return back to take his clothes.

³¹ In that day, he who shall be upon the housetop and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away; and he that is in the field, let him likewise not turn back. ³² Remember Lot’s wife. ³³ Whosoever shall seek to save his soul shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose it shall cause it to live.

¹⁸ And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship; ¹⁹ and the third day with our own hands we cast off the dead works of the ship.

³⁸ And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship and cast out the grain into the sea.

⁷ But those things which were gain to me, I counted loss for Christ. ⁸ And doubtless I even count all things as loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ

⁷ By faith Noah, having received revelation of things not seen as yet, with great care prepared an ark to the saving of his house, by which he condemned the world and was made heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you who would not venture to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter ⁵⁷ and toward her young one that comes out from between her feet and toward her children which she shall bear, for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly in the siege and straitness with which thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates,

¹⁹ Koph Arise, cry out in the night; in the beginning of the watches; pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord; lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children that faint for hunger in the top of every street. ²⁰ Resh Look, O LORD, and consider unto whom thou hast shaken thus. Shall the women eat their fruit, the little ones that they are bringing up? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?

³ Gimel Even the sea monsters draw out the breast; they give suck to their young ones; the daughter of my people is cruel like the ostriches in the wilderness. ⁴ Daleth The tongue of the sucking child cleaves to the roof of his mouth for thirst; the young children ask for bread, and there was no one to break it unto them.

¹⁰ Jod The hands of the compassionate women have cooked their own children; they were their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

¹⁴ Give them, O LORD, that which thou must give them; give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

¹⁶ Samaria shall be condemned; for she has rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword; their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped open.

¹⁹ And woe unto those that are with child and to those that give suck in those days! ²⁰ But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter neither on the sabbath day, ²¹ for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

²³ But woe unto those that are with child and to those that give suck in those days! For there shall be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people.

²⁹ For, behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bare and the breasts which never gave suck.

³² Ask, therefore, now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other whether there has been any such thing as this great thing is, or has any other been heard like it?

⁵⁹ Then the LORD will augment thy plagues wonderfully, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues and of long continuance, and evil sicknesses and of long continuance.

²² So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD has laid upon it, ²³ and that the whole land thereof is brimstone and salt and burning, that it is not sown, nor shall it produce anything, nor shall any grass grow therein, like in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger and in his wrath; ²⁴ even all Gentiles shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land? What means the heat of this great anger? ²⁵ Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt; ²⁶ for they went and served other gods and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not and who had not given anything unto them. ²⁷ Therefore, the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book. ²⁸ And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger and in wrath and in great indignation and cast them into another land, as it is today.

¹² I also will destine you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter because when I called, ye did not respond; I spoke, and ye did not hear, but did evil before my eyes and did choose that which displeased me. ¹³ Therefore thus has the Lord GOD said, Behold, my slaves shall eat, but ye shall be hungry; behold, my slaves shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty; behold, my slaves shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed: ¹⁴ Behold, my slaves shall rejoice by the joy of their heart, but ye shall cry for the sorrow of your heart and shall howl for the destruction of spirit. ¹⁵ And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen; for the Lord GOD shall slay thee and call his slaves by another name.

¹² ¶ Lamed Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? behold, and see if there is any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is come unto me because the LORD has afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger.

¹³ Mem What witness shall I take to thee? Or unto whom shall I liken thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? Unto whom shall I compare thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion? for thy breach is as great as the sea: who shall heal thee?

⁶ Vau For the iniquity of the daughter of my people has increased more than the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and companies did not camp upon her.

¹² And he has confirmed his words, which he spoke over us and over our judges that governed us, by bringing upon us such a great evil: that such has never been done under the whole heaven as has been done upon Jerusalem.

²⁶ And after the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One {Heb. Messiah} shall be killed and shall have nothing: (and the ruling people that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; whose end shall be as a flood, until at the end of the war it shall be cut off with desolation).

¹ ¶ And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who is for the sons of thy people, and it shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there were people until now, but in that time thy people shall escape, all those that are found written in the book.

² a day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of shadow that spreads itself upon the mountains as the dawn: a people great and strong; there has not ever been the like, neither shall there be any more after him, even to the years of many generations.

²¹ for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

⁶ But at the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

⁹ Except the LORD of the hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

¹³ But yet in it shall remain a tenth, and it shall return and shall be razed; as the teil tree and as the oak, of which the stump remains alive when they are cut down, likewise in these his stump shall remain holy seed.

⁸ ¶ Thus has the LORD said, As when one has found new wine in a cluster and says, Do not destroy it; for a blessing is in it; so will I do for my slaves’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all. ⁹ And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains; and my elect shall possess the land for an inheritance, and my slaves shall dwell there.

⁸ And it shall come to pass that in all the land, said the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off in her and shall be lost; but the third shall be left therein. ⁹ And I will put the third part into the fire and will refine them as silver is refined and will try them as gold is tried; He shall call on my name, and I will hear him; I will say, My people, and he shall say, The LORD is my God.

²² And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

⁵ Even so then at this present time also, there is a remnant by the gracious election of God. ⁶ And if by grace, then is it not by works; otherwise, the grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, then it is no longer grace; otherwise, the work is no longer work. ⁷ What then? Israel has not obtained that which he seeks after; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded

²³ And even them, if they do not continue in unbelief, shall be grafted in, for God is powerful enough to graft them in again. ²⁴ For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature and wert grafted contrary to nature into the good olive tree, how much more shall these, which are the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?

²⁸ So that, as concerning the gospel, I have them for enemies for your sakes; but as touching the election of God, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes. ²⁹ For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. ³⁰ For as ye in time past have not obeyed God, yet have now obtained mercy through the occasion of their disobedience, ³¹ likewise these also have not believed now that through the mercy shown unto you they also may obtain mercy. ³² For God enclosed everyone in disobedience, that he might have mercy upon everyone.

¹ ¶ When there arises among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and gives thee a sign or a wonder, ² and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them, ³ thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God proves you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

²³ Then if any man shall say unto you, Behold, here is the Christ, or there, believe it not. ²⁴ For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders in such a manner that they shall deceive, if possible, the very elect. ²⁵ Behold, I have told you before.

²³ And they shall say to you, Behold it here, or, Behold it there; do not go, nor follow them. ²⁴ For as the lightning, which shines from the region under heaven, shines in that which is under heaven; so also shall the Son of man be in his day.

¹⁵ ¶ Keep yourselves also from the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

²⁴ For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders in such a manner that they shall deceive, if possible, the very elect.

⁶ for many shall come in my name, saying, I Am Christ, and shall deceive many.

⁴⁸ Then Jesus said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; ²⁸ and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone pluck them out of my hand.

⁸ And then shall that Wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of his mouth and remove with the clarity of his coming: ⁹ that wicked one, who shall come by the working of Satan with great power and signs and lying miracles, ¹⁰ and with all deception of iniquity working in those that perish because they did not receive the charity of the truth, to be saved. ¹¹ Therefore, for this cause, God shall send the operation of error in them, that they should believe the lie; ¹² that they all might be condemned who did not believe the truth, but consented to the iniquity. ¹³ ¶ But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord, because God has from the beginning chosen you to saving health through the sanctification of the Spirit and faith in the truth, ¹⁴ unto which he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁹ ¶ Nevertheless, the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, The Lord knows those that are his. And, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us; but this happened that it might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

²⁶ These things I have written unto you concerning those that seduce you.

⁸ And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship it, whose names are not written in the book of the life of the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world.

¹³ And he does great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven to the earth in the sight of men ¹⁴ and deceives those that dwell on the earth by those signs which were given unto him to do in the presence of the beast, commanding those that dwell on the earth to make an image of the beast, which has the wound by the sword, and did live.

⁸ The beast that thou sawest was, and is not, and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and shall go into perdition; and those that dwell on the earth shall wonder (whose names are not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world) when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

⁷ And who shall call as I do and declare this in advance and set it in order for me, since I made the people of the world? Let them declare unto them the things that are near and the things that shall come. ⁸ Do not fear, neither be afraid; have I not caused thee to hear from of old and declared unto thee beforehand that which was to come? Then ye are my witnesses that there is no God but me, and there is no Strong One that I do not know.

³³ Take ye heed, watch and pray; for ye know not when the time shall be.

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with excess and drunkenness and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

²⁹ And now I have told you before it comes to pass, that when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

¹ ¶ These things I have spoken unto you that ye should not be offended. ² They shall put you out of the synagogues, and the hour will even come when whosoever kills you will think that he does God service. ³ And they will do these things unto you because they do not know the Father, nor me. ⁴ But I have told you these things that when that hour shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And I did not say these things unto you at the beginning because I was with you.

¹⁷ Ye, therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things in advance, be on guard lest by the error of the wicked ye be deceived with the others and fall from your own steadfastness.

¹⁰ For this reason the stars of the heavens and the lights thereof shall not shine: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not give forth her light.

²⁰ The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard and shall be removed like a cottage; and its transgression shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall and never rise again. ²¹ And it shall come to pass in that day that the LORD shall visit punishment upon the host of the high ones that are on high and upon the kings of the earth on the earth. ²² And they shall be gathered together as prisoners are gathered in the pit and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days they shall be visited. ²³ Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of the hosts shall reign in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and in the presence of his ancients he shall be glorious.

²³ I beheld the earth, and, behold, it was without order, and empty; and the heavens, and they had no light. ²⁴ I beheld the mountains, and, behold, they trembled, and all the hills were destroyed. ²⁵ I beheld, and, behold, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens had fled.

²⁸ For this shall the earth be made desolate, and the heavens above be darkened because I spoke; I purposed and did not repent, neither will I turn back from it.

⁷ And when thou art dead, I will cover the heavens and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.

¹⁰ A river of fire issued and came forth from before him; thousands of thousands served him, and ten thousands of ten thousands stood before him; the Judge sat down, and the books were opened.

¹⁰ The earth shall quake before him; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall go dark; and the stars shall withdraw their shining:

³⁰ And I will show wonders in the heaven and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. ³¹ The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and the terrible day of the LORD comes.

¹⁵ The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.

²⁰ Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

¹⁴ ¶ The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hastens greatly, the bitter voice of the day of the LORD; the mighty man shall cry there. ¹⁵ That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, ¹⁶ A day of the shofar and alarm upon the strong cities, and upon the high towers. ¹⁷ And I will bring distress upon men that they shall walk like blind men because they have sinned against the LORD, and their blood shall be poured out as dust and their flesh as the dung. ¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath, but the whole earth shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all those that dwell in the earth.

²⁹ Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken, ³⁰ and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven, and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with great power and glory. ³¹ And he shall send his angels with a trumpet and a great voice, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

²⁵ Then there shall be signs in the sun and in the moon and in the stars, and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; ²⁶ men’s hearts failing them for fear and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth; for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. ²⁷ And then they shall see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

¹⁹ and I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath: blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke; ²⁰ the sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood before that great and notable day of the Lord shall come;

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements, burning, shall be dissolved, and the earth and the works that are in it shall be burned up.

¹² waiting for and desiring earnestly for the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

¹² And I saw when he had opened the sixth seal, and, behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; ¹³ and the stars of heaven fell upon the earth, even as a fig tree casts her figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. ¹⁴ And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

¹¹ ¶ And I saw a great white throne and him that was seated upon it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and their place was not found.

⁴ And all the host of heavens shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll; and all their host shall fall down as the leaf falls off from the vine and as the leaf falls from the fig tree.

¹³ and the stars of heaven fell upon the earth, even as a fig tree casts her figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

⁹ ¶ I beheld until thrones were placed, and an Elder of great age did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool: his throne a flame of fire, his wheels burning fire. ¹⁰ A river of fire issued and came forth from before him; thousands of thousands served him, and ten thousands of ten thousands stood before him; the Judge sat down, and the books were opened. ¹¹ I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spoke; I beheld even until the beast was slain and its body was undone and given over to be burned in the fire. ¹² They had also taken from the other beasts their rule because their lives had been prolonged until a certain time. ¹³ I saw in the vision of the night, and, behold, in the clouds of heaven like a Son of man that came and drew near unto the Elder of great age, and they brought him near before him. ¹⁴ And he gave him dominion and glory and kingdom; and all the peoples, nations, and tongues served him: his dominion is an eternal dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom such that it shall never be corrupted.

¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.

²⁷ For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he shall reward everyone according to their works.

³⁰ and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven, and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with great power and glory.

³¹ ¶ When the Son of man shall come in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he shall sit upon the throne of his glory,

³⁸ Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

⁶² And Jesus said unto him, I AM, and ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the power of God and coming in the clouds of the heaven.

¹¹ who also said, Ye men of Galilee, what do ye stand gazing at up into heaven? This same Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

¹⁶ For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first;

⁷ and to give you, who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with the angels of his power, ⁸ with flaming fire, to take vengeance on those that do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, ⁹ who shall be punished with eternal destruction by the presence of the Lord and by the glory of his power, ¹⁰ when he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all those that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

⁷ Behold, he comes with the clouds, and every eye shall see him and those also who pierced him; and all kindreds of the earth shall wail over him. Even so, Amen.

¹⁰ The sceptre shall not be taken from Judah, nor the lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh comes; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

⁴ If thou hast been driven out unto the outmost parts of the heavens, from there will the LORD thy God gather thee and from there will he take thee;

⁹ And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains; and my elect shall possess the land for an inheritance, and my slaves shall dwell there.

⁶ ¶ Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the LORD, for I have spread you abroad by the four winds of the heavens, saith the LORD.

⁴² The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation and shall condemn it, for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

⁴¹ The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend and those who do iniquity

⁴⁹ So shall it be at the end of the age; the angels shall come forth and separate the wicked from among the just

³¹ And he shall send his angels with a trumpet and a great voice, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

³¹ ¶ When the Son of man shall come in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he shall sit upon the throne of his glory, ³² and before him shall be gathered all nations; and he shall separate them one from another as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats,

²⁰ And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved, but for the elect’s sake, whom he has chosen, he has shortened those days.

²² And it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom; the rich man also died and was buried;

⁷ And shall not God avenge his own elect who cry day and night unto him though he bears long regarding them?

¹⁶ And I have other sheep which are not of this fold; it is expedient that I bring them also, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.

⁵² and not for that nation only, but that he should also gather together in one the sons of God that were scattered abroad.

³³ Who shall accuse the chosen of God’s? God is he that justifies them.

¹² ¶ Clothed, therefore, (as the elect of God, holy and beloved) with bowels of mercies, with kindness, with humility, with meekness, with tolerance,

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so those who sleep in Jesus will God also bring with him. ¹⁵ For this, we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not precede those who are asleep. ¹⁶ For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first; ¹⁷ then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

¹ ¶ Now we beseech you, brethren, regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together unto him,

¹⁰ Therefore, I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they may also obtain the saving health which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

² chosen (according to the foreknowledge of God the Father) in sanctification of the Spirit, to obey and be sprinkled with the blood of Jesus, the Christ, Grace and peace, be multiplied unto you.

¹ ¶ And after these things I saw four angels standing upon the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth that no wind should blow upon the earth nor upon the sea nor upon any tree. ² And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God: and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the land and the sea, ³ saying, Hurt not the land neither the sea nor the trees until we have sealed the slaves of our God in their foreheads.

⁵ Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. ⁶ Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Naphtali were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. ⁷ Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. ⁸ Of the tribe of Zebulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand. ⁹ After this I saw, and, behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and kindreds and peoples and tongues stood before the throne and before the Lamb clothed with long white robes and palms in their hands

⁶ and the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles. ⁷ And one of the four animals gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who lives for ever and ever.

³² ¶ Now learn a parable of the fig tree: When his branch is yet tender and puts forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh; ³³ so likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

²⁹ ¶ And he spoke unto them a parable: Behold the fig tree and all the trees; ³⁰ when they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now near at hand. ³¹ So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is near at hand.

¹⁰ Behold the day, behold, it comes; the morning is gone forth; the rod has blossomed; pride has budded. ¹¹ Violence is risen up into a rod of wickedness; nothing shall remain of them, nor of their riches, nor of anything of theirs; neither shall there be lamentation for them. ¹² The time is come, the day draws near; do not let the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn; for wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.

²⁵ Because I, the LORD, will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall no longer be prolonged, for in your days, O rebellious house, I will speak the word and will perform it, said the Lord GOD. ²⁶ Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ²⁷ Son of man, behold, those of the house of Israel say, The vision that he sees is for many days to come, and he prophesies of the times that are far off. ²⁸ Therefore say unto them, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: All of my words shall not be prolonged any longer, but the word which I have spoken shall be done, said the Lord GOD.

²⁵ not forsaking our gathering together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another and so much the more, when ye see that day approaching. ²⁶ For if we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a certain fearful hope of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. ²⁸ He that despised the law of Moses died without mercy under two or three witnesses: ²⁹ Of how much greater punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden underfoot the Son of God and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing and has done despite unto the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know who he is that has said, Vengeance belongs to me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. ³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. ³² But bring to memory the former days, in which, after ye received the light, ye endured a great fight of afflictions; ³³ on the one hand ye were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and on the other ye became companions of those that were so used. ³⁴ For ye had compassion of me in my bonds and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing that in yourselves ye have a better substance in the heavens, and that abides. ³⁵ Do not lose, therefore, this your confidence, which has great recompense of reward; ³⁶ for patience is necessary, so that after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. ³⁷ For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come and will not tarry.

⁹ Complain not one against another, brethren, that ye not be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door.

¹⁷ For it is time that the judgment begins from the house of God; and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of those that do not obey the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And if the righteous are saved with difficulty, where shall the unfaithful and the sinner appear?

²⁸ Verily I say unto you, There are some standing here who shall not taste of death until they have seen the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

³⁶ Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

³⁴ Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass until all these things are fulfilled.

¹ ¶ He also said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there are some of those who are here who shall not taste of death until they have seen the kingdom of God which comes with power.

³² Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away until all is fulfilled.

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent; he said and shall he not do it? He spoke and shall he not execute it?

¹⁴ And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing has failed thereof. ¹⁵ Therefore it shall come to pass that as all the good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you, so shall the LORD bring upon you all the evil things until he has destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you

⁷ ¶ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

²⁵ Of old thou hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the work of thy hands. ²⁶ They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture thou shalt change them, and they shall be changed: ²⁷ But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.

⁸ The grass withers, the open flower fades; but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

⁶ Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath; for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and those that dwell therein shall perish in like manner; but my saving health shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall never perish.

⁶ But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my slaves the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? Therefore they returned from captivity and said, Like as the LORD of the hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways and according to our doings, so has he dealt with us.

¹⁸ For verily I say unto you, Until heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall pass from the law until all is fulfilled.

³⁵ The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

³³ The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

¹³ if we are unfaithful, yet he remains faithful; he cannot deny himself.

² for the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the times of the ages

¹⁰ And Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: ¹¹ they shall perish; but thou dost remain; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; ¹² and as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed; but thou art the same, and thy years shall never fail.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements, burning, shall be dissolved, and the earth and the works that are in it shall be burned up. ¹¹ ¶ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, ¹² waiting for and desiring earnestly for the coming of the day of God, in which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

³⁶ But of that day and hour no one knows, no, not even the angels of the heavens, but my Father only. ³⁷ But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. ³⁸ For as they were in the days before the flood, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ and they knew not until the flood came and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. ⁴⁰ Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken and the other left. ⁴¹ Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken and the other left. ⁴² Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

⁶ And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go ye out to meet him.

¹³ Watch, therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man comes.

¹⁹ And after a long time the lord of those slaves came and reckoned accounts with them.

²⁶ And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. ²⁷ And then shall he send his angels and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth unto the uttermost part of the heaven.

⁷ And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put under his authority only.

¹ ¶ But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. ² For ye know well that the day of the Lord shall come as a thief in the night.

¹ ¶ The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to show unto his slaves things which are convenient to do quickly, and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his slave John,

³ Remember, therefore, of that which thou hast received and heard and hold to it and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come to thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

⁴² Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. ⁴³ But know this that if the husband of the house knew in what watch the thief would come, he would watch and would not suffer his house to be broken into. ⁴⁴ Therefore be ye also ready; the Son of man is to come in the hour that ye think not.

⁴⁰ And he came unto the disciples and found them asleep and said unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? ⁴¹ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

²³ But take ye heed; behold, I have told you everything beforehand.

³⁵ Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the Lord of the house comes: at evening or at midnight or at the cockcrowing or in the morning, ³⁶ lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. ³⁷ And what I say unto you, I say unto all: Watch.

³⁷ And he came and found them sleeping and said unto Peter: Simon, sleepest thou? Could thou not watch one hour? ³⁸ Watch ye and pray; enter not into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is sick.

⁴⁰ Be ye therefore ready also; for the Son of man comes at an hour when ye think not.

¹¹ ¶ And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awaken ourselves out of sleep, for now is our saving health nearer than when we believed. ¹² The night is past, and the day is come; let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us clothe ourselves with the weapons of light.

¹⁴ But be clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not listen to the flesh, to fulfil its desires.

¹³ ¶ Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.

¹⁸ praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching in this with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints

⁵ Ye are all the sons of light, and the sons of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness. ⁶ ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For those that sleep in the night, and those that are drunken are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet, the hope of saving health.

¹⁵ looking diligently that no one deviate from the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up impede you, and thereby many be defiled,

⁷ ¶ But the end of all things is at hand; be ye, therefore, temperate and watch unto prayer.

⁸ ¶ Be temperate and vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour,

² Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die; for I have not found thy works perfect before God.

¹⁵ Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watches and keeps his garments lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

¹⁷ Son of man, I have placed thee as a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me. ¹⁸ When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die and thou dost not give him warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, that he might live, the same wicked man shall die for his iniquity; but his blood I will require at thine hand. ¹⁹ Yet if thou warn the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness nor from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. ²⁰ Again, When the righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die because thou hast not given him warning; he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at thy hand. ²¹ Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man that the righteous not sin and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.

² Son of man, speak to the sons of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring a sword upon the land and the people of the land take a man from within their borders and set him up as a watchman; ³ and he should see the sword coming upon the land, if he should blow the shofar, and warn the people, ⁴ then whoever hears the sound of the shofar and does not take warning; and the coming of the sword should take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. ⁵ He heard the sound of the shofar and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he that takes warning shall deliver his soul. ⁶ But if the watchman should see the sword coming and not blow the shofar and the people not be warned, if the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away because of his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand. ⁷ So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth and warn them from me. ⁸ When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die for his sin; but I will require his blood at thine hand. ⁹ Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, if he does not turn from his way, he shall die for his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

¹⁹ And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of the heavens, and whatever thou shalt bind on the earth shall be bound in the heavens, and whatever thou shalt loose on the earth shall be loosed in the heaven.

⁴⁵ Who then is the faithful and prudent slave, whom his lord has made ruler over his household to give them food in due season? ⁴⁶ Blessed is that slave whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing. ⁴⁷ Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

¹⁴ ¶ For it is like a man travelling into a far country, who called his own slaves and delivered unto them his goods. ¹⁵ And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each one according to his faculty, and straightway took his journey. ¹⁶ And after he was gone, he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same and made another five talents. ¹⁷ And likewise he that had received two, he also gained another two. ¹⁸ But he that had received one went and dug in the earth and hid his lord’s money. ¹⁹ And after a long time the lord of those slaves came and reckoned accounts with them. ²⁰ And so he that had received five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, Lord, thou didst deliver unto me five talents; behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. ²¹ His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful slave; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. ²² He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou didst deliver unto me two talents; behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. ²³ His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful slave; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord. ²⁴ Then he who had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown and gathering where thou hast not scattered; ²⁵ therefore, I was afraid and went and hid thy talent in the earth; behold, thou hast what is thine. ²⁶ His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful slave, thou knewest that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I have not scattered; ²⁷ therefore, it was expedient for thee to have put my money to the bankers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with interest. ²⁸ Take, therefore, the talent from him and give it unto him who has ten talents. ²⁹ For unto every one that has shall be given, and he shall have abundance, but from him that has not shall be taken away even that which he has. ³⁰ And cast ye the unprofitable slave into the outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

³⁶ and ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he comes and knocks, they may open unto him immediately. ³⁷ Blessed are those slaves, whom the lord when he comes shall find watching; verily I say unto you that he shall gird himself and make them to sit down to food and will come forth and serve them. ³⁸ And if he shall come in the second watch or come in the third watch and find them so, blessed are those slaves. ³⁹ And know this: that if the husband of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not have suffered his house to be broken through. ⁴⁰ Be ye therefore ready also; for the Son of man comes at an hour when ye think not.

¹² He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. ¹³ And having called ten of his slaves, he delivered them ten minas and said unto them, Trade until I come. ¹⁴ But his citizens hated him and sent an embassy after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. ¹⁵ And it came to pass that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these slaves to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much each one had gained by trading. ¹⁶ Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy mina has gained ten minas. ¹⁷ And he said unto him, Well done, thou good slave; because thou hast been faithful in a very little, thou shalt have authority over ten cities.

³ To him the porter opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

²⁹ For I know this, that after my departing, grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock. ³⁰ Also from among your own selves, men shall arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after themselves. ³¹ Therefore watch and remember that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.

⁴ For in the manner that we have many members in one body, nevertheless all the members do not have the same operation; ⁵ likewise many of us are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. ⁶ So that having different gifts according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, according to the measure of faith; ⁷ or ministry, in serving; or he that teaches, in doctrine; ⁸ he that exhorts, in exhortation; he that gives, let him do it in simplicity; he that presides, in earnest care; he that shows mercy, in cheerfulness.

⁶ For this cause ye also pay them tribute, for they are God’s ministers, attending continually to this very thing.

⁵ ¶ Who then is Paul? and who is Apollos? but servants by whom ye believed, each one according to that which the Lord gave. ⁶ I have planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. ⁷ So then neither is he that plants anything, neither he that waters, but God that gives the increase. ⁸ Now he that plants and he that waters are one although each one shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. ⁹ For we are labourers together with God; ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. ¹⁰ According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another builds upon it. But let each one see how the building is built.

⁴ Now there is dispersal of gifts, but the same Spirit. ⁵ And there is dispersal of ministries, but the same Lord. ⁶ And there is dispersal of operations, but it is the same God who works all in each one. ⁷ But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one to profit with. ⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit a word of wisdom; to another, a word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; ⁹ to another, faith by the same Spirit; to another, gifts of healing by the same Spirit; ¹⁰ to another, the operation of miracles; to another, prophecy; to another, discerning of spirits; to another, different kinds of tongues; to another, the interpretation of tongues: ¹¹ one and the same Spirit operates all these things, dispersing to each one his own gift as he wills. ¹² ¶ For as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also the Christ. ¹³ For by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether we are Jews or Greeks, whether we are slaves or free, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. ¹⁴ For the body is not one member, but many. ¹⁵ If the foot shall say, Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body, is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁶ And if the ear shall say, Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body, is it therefore not of the body? ¹⁷ If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the smelling be? ¹⁸ But now God has set the members each one of them in the body, as it has pleased him. ¹⁹ And if they were all one member, where would the body be? ²⁰ But now they are indeed many members, yet but one body. ²¹ And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee; nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. ²² For those members of the body, which seem to be weaker, are much more necessary; ²³ and those members of the body which we think to be more vile, these we dress with more abundant honour; and those in us who are more indecent have more honesty. ²⁴ For those in us who are more honest need nothing, but God has ordered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that one which lacked, ²⁵ that there should be no contradiction in the body, but that the members should have the same care one for another. ²⁶ And if one member suffers, all the members suffer together; or if one member is honoured, all the members rejoice together. ²⁷ ¶ Now ye are the body of Christ and members in particular. ²⁸ And God did set certain ones in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}: first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that faculties, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. ²⁹ Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? do all have faculties? ³⁰ Do all have gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? ³¹ But earnestly pursue the best gifts, and yet I show unto you a more excellent way.

⁵⁸ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brothers, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

²⁴ knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance, for ye serve the Lord Christ.

¹ ¶ Masters, do that which is just and right with your slaves, knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

⁷ ¶ And to the angel of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} in Philadelphia write; These things, saith he that is Holy and True, he who has the key of David, who opens and no one shuts and shuts, and no one opens;

⁴² Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

⁴⁴ Therefore be ye also ready; the Son of man is to come in the hour that ye think not.

⁴⁸ And he saw them toiling in rowing, for the wind was contrary unto them; and about the fourth watch of the night he came unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.

³⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny me three times.

⁹ How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? ¹⁰ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ¹¹ So shall thy poverty come as one that travels and thy want as an armed man.

¹ ¶ By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but I did not find him.

² ¶ I sleep, but my heart watches for the voice of my beloved that knocks at the door, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my perfect one: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night.

¹⁰ His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant; they are all dumb dogs; they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, they love to slumber.

⁵ While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

³⁷ And he came and found them sleeping and said unto Peter: Simon, sleepest thou? Could thou not watch one hour?

⁴⁰ And when he returned, he found them asleep again (for their eyes were heavy), nor did they know what to answer him.

⁴⁵ And when he rose up from prayer and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow

¹¹ ¶ And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awaken ourselves out of sleep, for now is our saving health nearer than when we believed. ¹² The night is past, and the day is come; let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us clothe ourselves with the weapons of light. ¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. ¹⁴ But be clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not listen to the flesh, to fulfil its desires.

¹⁴ Therefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest and arise from the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.

⁶ ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For those that sleep in the night, and those that are drunken are drunken in the night.

³⁵ Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the Lord of the house comes: at evening or at midnight or at the cockcrowing or in the morning,

⁴¹ ¶ Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us or even to all? ⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward whom his lord shall make ruler over his household to give them their portion of food in due season? ⁴³ Blessed is that slave whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing. ⁴⁴ Of a truth I say unto you that he will make him ruler over all that he has. ⁴⁵ But and if that slave shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming, and shall begin to beat the menslaves and maids and to eat and drink and to be drunken, ⁴⁶ the lord of that slave will come in a day when he does not look for him and at an hour when he is not aware and will cut him off and will appoint him his portion with the unfaithful.
