¹ ¶ Then came together unto him the Pharisees and some of the scribes, who had come from Jerusalem, ² who upon seeing some of his disciples eat bread with common, that is to say, with unwashed, hands, they condemned them. ³ (For the Pharisees and all the Jews, unless they wash their hands often, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. ⁴ And when they come from the market, unless they wash, they eat not. And there are many other things which they took upon themselves to hold such as the washing of cups and pots, brasen vessels and of tables.) ⁵ Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why do thy disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders but eat bread with unwashed hands? ⁶ He answered and said unto them, Well has Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. ⁷ Howbeit in vain do they honor me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. ⁸ For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men as the washing of pots and cups, and many other such like things ye do. ⁹ And he also said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. ¹⁰ For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother, and, Whosoever curses father or mother shall most definitely die. ¹¹ But ye say, It is enough if a man shall say to his father or mother, It is all Corban, (that is to say, my gift to God) whatever with which thou mightest be profited by me. ¹² And ye suffer him to do no more for his father or for his mother, ¹³ invalidating the word of God with your tradition, which ye have given; and many such like things do ye. ¹⁴ And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you and understand; ¹⁵ there is nothing from outside the man that entering into him can defile him, but the things which come out of him, those are what defile the man. ¹⁶ If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear. ¹⁷ And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. ¹⁸ And he said unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not understand that anything from outside that enters into the man cannot defile him? ¹⁹ Because it enters not into his heart, but into the belly, and the man goes out to the privy and purges all foods. ²⁰ For he had said that it is what comes out of the man that defiles the man. ²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth the evil thoughts, the adulteries, the fornications, the murders, ²² the thefts, the covetousness, the wickedness, the deceit, the lasciviousness, the evil eye, the slander, the pride, the unwiseness: ²³ all these evil things come out from within and defile the man. ²⁴ ¶ And from there he arose and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entering into a house, desired that no man know of it; but he could not be hid. ²⁵ For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him and came and fell at his feet; ²⁶ the woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation, and she besought him that he would cast forth the demon out of her daughter. ²⁷ But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and to cast it unto the dogs. ²⁸ And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs. ²⁹ And he said unto her, For this word go; the demon has gone out of thy daughter. ³⁰ And when she came to her house, she found that the demon had gone out, and the daughter lay upon the bed. ³¹ ¶ And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre, he came by Sidon unto the sea of Galilee through the midst of the borders of Decapolis. ³² And they bring unto him one that was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. ³³ And taking him aside from the multitude, he put his fingers into the man’s ears; and spitting, he touched the man’s tongue with the saliva; ³⁴ and looking up to heaven, he cried out, and said, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. ³⁵ And straightway his ears were opened, and that which bound his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly. ³⁶ And he charged them that they should tell no one; but the more he commanded them, so much more and more they published it ³⁷ and were beyond measure astonished, saying, He has done all things well: he makes both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.

¹ ¶ Then certain scribes and Pharisees of Jerusalem came unto Jesus, saying, ² Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread. ³ But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? ⁴ For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother, and, He that curses father or mother, let him die without recourse. ⁵ But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, Whatever I might have helped thee with is already my offering unto God, ⁶ and now has no need to honour his father or his mother with succour. Thus ye have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. ⁷ Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, ⁸ This people draws nigh unto me with their mouth and honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. ⁹ But in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines and commandments of men. ¹⁰ ¶ And calling the multitude unto him, he said unto them, Hear and understand: ¹¹ not that which goes into the mouth defiles the man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles the man. ¹² Then his disciples came and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this word? ¹³ But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up. ¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into a pit. ¹⁵ Then Peter answered and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. ¹⁶ And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? ¹⁷ Do not ye yet understand that whatever enters in at the mouth goes into the belly and is cast out into the draught? ¹⁸ But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart, and they defile the man. ¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: ²⁰ these are the things which defile the man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.

²² ¶ But the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem said that he had Beelzebub and that by the prince of the devils he cast out devils.

¹⁷ ¶ And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, who were come out of every town of Galilee and Judaea and Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

⁵³ And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently and to provoke him to speak of many things, ⁵⁴ laying wait for him and seeking to catch something out of his mouth that they might accuse him.

⁴ Then the presidents and governors looked for occasions against Daniel on behalf of the kingdom, but they could find no occasion or fault because he was faithful, and no vice nor fault was found in him. ⁵ Then these men said, We shall never find any occasion against this Daniel except we find it against him in the law of his God.

³ And why dost thou behold the mote that is in thy brother’s eye but dost not consider the beam that is in thine own eye? ⁴ Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? ⁵ Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou be able to see to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

²³ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin and have omitted that which is more important of the law: judgment, mercy, and faith; these were expedient for ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain at a gnat and swallow a camel. ²⁵ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup or of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and incontinence.

¹⁴ But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. ¹⁵ And the voice spoke unto him again the second time, That which God has cleansed, do not call common.

²⁸ And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an abominable thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company or come unto one of another nation; but God has showed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

⁸ But I said, Not so, Lord, for nothing common or unclean has at any time entered into my mouth.

¹⁴ I know and trust in the Lord Jesus that for his sake there is nothing unclean, but to him that esteems any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

¹³ invalidating the word of God with your tradition, which ye have given; and many such like things do ye.

¹⁴ And profited in Judaism above many of my equals in my own nation, being exceedingly more zealous of the traditions of my fathers.

⁸ Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the traditions of men, according to the elements of the world, and not after Christ.

²¹ touch not; taste not; handle not? ²² Which all perish with the using, because they are the commandments and doctrines of men, ²³ which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will worship and humility and neglecting of the body, but they have absolutely no value against the appetites of the flesh.

¹⁸ knowing that ye have been ransomed from your vain conversation (which you received from your fathers), not with corruptible things like silver and gold,

³⁰ If I wash myself with snow water and make my hands never so clean; ³¹ yet thou shalt plunge me into the pit, and my own clothes shall abhor me.

⁶ ¶ I will wash my hands in innocency, so I will walk near unto thine altar, O LORD:

¹⁶ ¶ Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil;

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness that thou may be saved. How long shalt thou entertain the thoughts of thy iniquity within thee?

²⁵ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup or of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and incontinence.

²⁴ When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person; see ye to it.

³⁸ And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner. ³⁹ And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

⁶ And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

²⁵ Then there arose a question between the disciples of John and the Jews about purifying.

¹⁰ but in foods and drinks and different washings and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of correction.

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have communion with him in the midst of us, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son cleanses us from all sin.

¹⁶ And the scribes and Pharisees, seeing him eat with publicans and sinners, said unto his disciples, How is it that he eats and drinks with publicans and sinners? ¹⁷ When Jesus heard it, he said unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but the sinners to repentance. ¹⁸ ¶ And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees did fast and therefore came and said unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

²¹ and they are informed of thee that thou teachest all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.

²⁴ them take, and purify thyself with them, and pay their expenses, that they may shave their heads, and all may know that those things, of which they were informed concerning thee, are nothing, but that thou thyself dost also walk orderly and keep the law.

¹² that he be the father of the circumcision: not only to those who are of the circumcision, but also unto those who walk in the steps of the faith that was in our father Abraham before he was circumcised.

⁶ ¶ Now we charge you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walks out of order, and not after the doctrine which ye received of us.

¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk among you out of order, not working at all, but are busybodies.

¹³ Therefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people sacrifice unto me and honour me with their lips, but have removed their heart far from me, and their worship with which they honour me was taught by the commandment of men:

³¹ And they shall come unto thee as the people come, and they shall be before thee, my people, and they shall hear thy words, but they shall not do them; for with their mouth they flatter, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

² Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we have known thee. ³ Israel has cast off the good; the enemy shall pursue him.

⁷ Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, ⁸ This people draws nigh unto me with their mouth and honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. ⁹ But in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines and commandments of men.

¹³ ¶ But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of the heavens in front of men, for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye those that are entering to go in. ¹⁴ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses and for a pretence make long prayer; therefore, ye shall receive the greater judgment. ¹⁵ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more a son of hell than yourselves.

³⁹ And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. ⁴⁰ Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also? ⁴¹ But rather give alms {lit. do acts of mercy} of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you. ⁴² But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs and pass over the judgment and the charity of God; these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. ⁴³ Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the first seats in the synagogues and greetings in the markets. ⁴⁴ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which are not seen, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.

⁴² But I know you that ye have not the love of God in you.

⁴¹ Ye do the deeds of your father. Then they said to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. ⁴² Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would surely love me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither did I come of myself, but he sent me.

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father that glorifies me, of whom ye say that he is your God; ⁵⁵ yet ye have not known him, but I know him; and if I should say, I do not know him, I shall be a liar like unto you; but I know him and keep his word.

²⁴ If I had not done among them works which no other man has done, they would not have sin; but now they have seen them and hate both me and my Father.

²⁵ And when they did not agree among themselves, they departed, after Paul had spoken this word, Well spoke the Holy Spirit by Isaiah the prophet unto our fathers,

⁵ having the appearance of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

¹⁶ They profess that they know God, but in works they deny him, being abominable and rebellious and reprobate unto every good work.

¹⁴ ¶ My brethren, What shall it profit though someone says that they have faith and do not have works? Shall this type of faith be able to save them? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says unto them, Depart in peace; be ye warmed and filled; but ye do not give them those things which are needful for the body; what shall it profit them? ¹⁷ Even so faith, if it does not have works, is dead in and of itself.

³² Keep thyself, and do all that I command you; thou shalt not add to it nor diminish from it.

²¹ do not turn aside after vain things which cannot profit nor deliver, for they are vain.

¹⁴ Ye have said, It is vain to serve God, and what profit is it that we have kept his law and that we walk mournfully before the LORD of the hosts?

⁷ But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions as the worldly do, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

⁹ But in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines and commandments of men.

¹⁴ and if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is vain, and your faith is also vain.

⁵⁸ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brothers, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

²² Which all perish with the using, because they are the commandments and doctrines of men,

¹ ¶ Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, listening to spirits of error and doctrines of demons; ² that in hypocrisy shall speak lies; having their conscience seared as with a hot iron; ³ they shall forbid to marry and shall command men to abstain from foods, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who are faithful and have known the truth.

⁹ ¶ But avoid foolish questions and genealogies and contentions and debates concerning the law, for they are unprofitable and vain.

²⁶ If anyone among you thinks to be religious and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, his religion is vain.

²⁰ But, O vain man, dost thou desire to know that faith without works is dead?

¹¹ and the smoke of their torment ascends up for ever and ever; and those that worship the beast and its image and whosoever receives the mark of its name, have no rest day or night. ¹² Here is the patience of the saints; here are those that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

¹⁸ For I testify unto everyone that hears the words of the prophecy of this book, If anyone shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book;

¹² When ye come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to tread my courts?

³ (For the Pharisees and all the Jews, unless they wash their hands often, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. ⁴ And when they come from the market, unless they wash, they eat not. And there are many other things which they took upon themselves to hold such as the washing of cups and pots, brasen vessels and of tables.)

¹⁰ ¶ And King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglathpileser, King of Assyria, and saw the altar that was at Damascus; and king Ahaz sent to Urijah, the priest, the fashion of the altar and the pattern of it, according to all the workmanship of it. ¹¹ And Urijah, the priest, built an altar according to all that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus; so Urijah, the priest, made it while King Ahaz returned from Damascus. ¹² And when the king was come from Damascus, the king saw the altar; and the king came near to the altar and offered upon it. ¹³ And he burnt his burnt offering and his present and poured his drink offering and sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings, next to the altar. ¹⁴ And the brasen altar which had been before the LORD, he caused to be moved in front of the forefront of the house, from between the altar and the house of the LORD, and he put it beside the altar towards the Aquilon. ¹⁵ And King Ahaz commanded Urijah, the priest, saying, Upon the great altar burn the morning burnt offering and the evening present and the king’s burnt sacrifice and his present, and likewise the burnt offering of all the people of the land and their present and their drink offerings, and sprinkle upon it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice; and the brasen altar shall be mine to enquire by. ¹⁶ Thus did Urijah, the priest, according to all that King Ahaz commanded him.

¹²⁶ ¶ It is time for thee, O LORD, to act; for they have dissipated thy law.

⁵ The earth is also become bankrupt under its inhabitants because they have transgressed the laws, falsified the order, broken the everlasting covenant.

¹⁶ As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. ¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goes forth out of our own mouth to burn incense unto the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings unto her as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.

²⁵ And he shall speak great words against the most High and shall break down the saints of the most High and think to move the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the half or dividing of a time.

³⁶ And the king shall do according to his will, and he shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god and shall speak marvels against the God of gods and shall prosper until the indignation is accomplished, for the determination has been made.

³¹ Do we then make void the law through faith? No, in no wise; to the contrary, we establish the law.

²¹ I do not reject the grace of God, for if righteousness comes by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

⁴ opposing and exalting himself against all that is called God, or divinity, so that he as God sits in the temple of God, making himself appear to be God.

¹² ¶ Honour thy father and thy mother that thy days may be lengthened upon the land which the LORD thy God gives thee.

¹⁷ In the same manner he that curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

⁹ For any man that curses his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

¹⁶ Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God has commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God gives thee.

¹⁶ Cursed is he that dishonours his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

²⁰ ¶ Whosoever curses his father or his mother, his fire shall be put out in obscure darkness.

¹⁷ The eye that mocks at his father, and despises the teaching of his mother, the ravens shall pluck it out of the river, and the young eagles shall eat it.

⁴ For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother, and, He that curses father or mother, let him die without recourse.

¹⁹ Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

⁵ But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, Whatever I might have helped thee with is already my offering unto God,

¹⁸ And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever swears by the gift that is upon it, he is a debtor.

⁴ But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let those learn first to govern their house in piety and to recompense their parents, for this is honest and pleasing before God. ⁵ Now she that is a widow indeed and desolate, trusts in God, and is diligent in supplications and prayers night and day, ⁶ but she that lives in pleasure is dead while she lives. ⁷ Therefore command these things, that they may be blameless. ⁸ But if any provide not for his own and specially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

⁸ How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Behold, certainly in vain did he make the pen; the scribes were in vain. ⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

¹⁴ But if he begets a son that sees all his father’s sins which he has done and seeing them, does not do according to them,

¹² I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as strange things.

¹⁷ ¶ Think not that I am come to undo the law or the prophets; I am not come to undo, but to fulfil. ¹⁸ For verily I say unto you, Until heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall pass from the law until all is fulfilled. ¹⁹ Whosoever therefore shall undo one of these least commandments and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of the heavens; but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of the heavens. ²⁰ For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

⁶ and now has no need to honour his father or his mother with succour. Thus ye have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

⁹ And he also said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; which I denounce, as I have also told you in time past that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

¹⁴ not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.

²¹ ¶ And Elijah came near unto all the people and said, How long shall ye halt between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him. And the people did not answer him a word.

²⁸ And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD has not spoken by me. Then he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

A Psalm for the sons of Korah. ¶ Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world: ² Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

⁸ Understand, ye carnal ones among the people, and, ye fools, when will ye be wise?

⁵ O ye simple, understand prudence; and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

⁹ ¶ Then he said, Go and tell this people, Hear indeed, but do not understand; and see indeed, but do not perceive.

¹⁰ ¶ And calling the multitude unto him, he said unto them, Hear and understand:

¹ ¶ In the meantime, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

⁵⁴ ¶ And he said also to the people, When ye see the cloud rising out of the west, straightway ye say, A shower comes, and so it is. ⁵⁵ And when the south wind blows, ye say, There will be heat, and it comes to pass. ⁵⁶ Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time? ⁵⁷ Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

⁴⁵ Then in the audience of all the people, he said unto his disciples, ⁴⁶ Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes and love greetings in the markets and the first seats in the synagogues and the first places at suppers; ⁴⁷ who devour the houses of the widows and for a pretext make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

³⁰ And Philip ran there to him and heard him read the prophet Isaiah and said, Dost thou understand what thou readest?

⁴² Whatever goes upon the belly and whatever goes upon four or more feet among all reptiles that creep upon the earth, ye shall not eat; for it is abomination. ⁴³ ¶ Ye shall not defile your souls with any reptile that creeps, neither shall ye contaminate yourselves with them, that ye should be unclean with them. ⁴⁴ For I am the LORD your God; ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy; neither shall ye defile your souls with any reptile that moves upon the earth. ⁴⁵ For I am the LORD that causes you to come up out of the land of Egypt to be your God; ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. ⁴⁶ This is the law of the animals and of the fowls and of every living creature that moves in the waters and of every animal that creeps upon the earth: ⁴⁷ to make a difference between the unclean and the clean and between the animals that may be eaten and the animals that may not be eaten.

²³ Above all else, guard thy heart; for out of it flows the issues of life.

³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

¹⁶ And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?

¹⁸ And he said unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not understand that anything from outside that enters into the man cannot defile him? ¹⁹ Because it enters not into his heart, but into the belly, and the man goes out to the privy and purges all foods. ²⁰ For he had said that it is what comes out of the man that defiles the man. ²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth the evil thoughts, the adulteries, the fornications, the murders, ²² the thefts, the covetousness, the wickedness, the deceit, the lasciviousness, the evil eye, the slander, the pride, the unwiseness: ²³ all these evil things come out from within and defile the man.

¹⁴ But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. ¹⁵ And the voice spoke unto him again the second time, That which God has cleansed, do not call common. ¹⁶ This was done three times, and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

⁸ But I said, Not so, Lord, for nothing common or unclean has at any time entered into my mouth. ⁹ But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God has cleansed, do not call common. ¹⁰ And this was done three times, and it was all drawn up again into heaven.

²⁰ but that we write unto them that they abstain from pollutions of idols and from fornication and from things strangled and from blood. ²¹ For Moses of old time has in every city those that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

¹⁷ for the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

²⁵ Whatever is sold in the market, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake;

³ they shall forbid to marry and shall command men to abstain from foods, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who are faithful and have known the truth. ⁴ For everything that God created is good, and nothing is to be refused, if it is received with thanksgiving, ⁵ for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

¹⁵ For unto the pure all things are pure, but unto those that are defiled and unfaithful, nothing is pure, but even their soul and conscience is defiled.

⁹ Be not taken out of the way with diverse and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace, not with foods which have not profited those that have been occupied with them.

³⁶ Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house, and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

¹⁵ Then Peter answered and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

¹⁰ And when he was alone, those that were close to him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

³⁴ But without a parable he did not speak unto them; and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

²⁸ And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?

⁹ ¶ Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? Those that are weaned from the milk and drawn from the breasts. ¹⁰ For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

⁴ Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they have become foolish; for they do not know the way of the LORD nor the judgment of their God. ⁵ I will go unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke and burst the bonds.

¹⁶ And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? ¹⁷ Do not ye yet understand that whatever enters in at the mouth goes into the belly and is cast out into the draught?

¹¹ How is it that ye do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread that ye should keep yourselves from the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?

¹³ And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? How then will ye understand all the parables?

²⁵ Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken;

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a teacher of Israel and knowest not this?

² I have fed you with milk, and not with solid food, for until now ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.

¹¹ Of whom we have many things to say and difficult to declare, seeing ye are hard of hearing.

¹⁷ Do not ye yet understand that whatever enters in at the mouth goes into the belly and is cast out into the draught?

⁴¹ But rather give alms {lit. do acts of mercy} of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

¹ ¶ Bear with the one who is sick in the faith, but not unto doubtful discernment. ² For one believes that he may eat all things; another, who is sick, eats vegetables. ³ Let not him that eats despise him that does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him that eats; for God has raised him up. ⁴ Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? By his own master he stands or falls; and if he falls, he shall be made to stand, for God is powerful to make him stand. ⁵ Also, some make a difference between one day and another; others esteem every day alike. Let each one be fully persuaded in his own soul. ⁶ He that observes the day, let him observe it unto the Lord; and he that does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He that eats, eats unto the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he that does not eat, unto the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. ⁷ For none of us live for ourselves, and no one dies for himself. ⁸ For if we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord; whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s. ⁹ For to this end Christ both died and rose and revived: to thus exercise lordship over the dead as well as over the living. ¹⁰ But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou belittle thy brother? for we shall all stand before the tribunal of the Christ. ¹¹ For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. ¹² So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.

¹³ Foods are for the belly, and the belly for foods; but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.

¹⁶ ¶ Let no one therefore judge you in food or in drink or in respect of a feast day or of the new moon or of the sabbath days,

²¹ touch not; taste not; handle not? ²² Which all perish with the using, because they are the commandments and doctrines of men,

⁶ And if he came to see me, he spoke lies: his heart gathered iniquity to itself, and when he goes out, he tells it.

¹ ¶ Woe unto those that devise iniquity and fabricate evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they put it into effect because they have power in their hands.

¹⁵ there is nothing from outside the man that entering into him can defile him, but the things which come out of him, those are what defile the man.

⁶ but he whose descent is not counted in those took tithes from Abraham and blessed him that had the promises.

¹⁴ But each one is tempted, when they are drawn away of their own lust and enticed. ¹⁵ Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

¹ ¶ Where do the wars and disputes come from among you? From here that is to say, of your lusts which fight in your members?

⁵ And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

²¹ And the LORD smelled a savour of rest, and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his childhood; neither will I again smite any more every living thing as I have done.

⁴ Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one.

¹⁴ What is man that he should be clean and that he that is born of a woman should be justified? ¹⁵ Behold, he puts no trust in his saints, and not even the heavens are clean in his sight. ¹⁶ How much less the man who is abominable and filthy, who drinks iniquity like water?

⁴ How then can man be justified with God? Or how can he that is born of a woman be clean?

A Psalm of David. ¶ The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is no one that does good.

³ They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is no one that does good, no, not one.

²⁵ ¶ The LORD will destroy the house of the proud, but he will establish the inheritance of the widow.

⁷ Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are their paths.

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who shall know it?

¹⁰ Thus hath the Lord GOD said: It shall also come to pass in that day, that words shall rise up in thy heart, and thou shalt conceive an evil thought:

⁴ And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Why think ye evil in your hearts?

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

²⁵ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup or of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and incontinence. ²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whitewashed sepulchres, who indeed appear beautiful outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Ye are they who justify themselves before men, but God knows your hearts, for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

⁴ Retaining it, was it not thy own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thy heart? Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

²² Repent therefore of this thy wickedness and pray God, if perhaps this thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.

⁵ For while we were in the flesh, the affections of the sins which were by the law worked in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

⁸ Then sin, when there was occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of lust. For without the law sin was as if it were dormant.

⁷ because the prudence of the flesh is enmity against God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, neither indeed can it. ⁸ So then, those that are carnal cannot please God.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; which I denounce, as I have also told you in time past that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

³ For we ourselves also were foolish in another time, rebellious, deceived, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

⁴ Are ye not then judging in yourselves and are become judges of evil thoughts?

¹ ¶ Where do the wars and disputes come from among you? From here that is to say, of your lusts which fight in your members? ² Ye covet and have not; ye murder, and have envy and cannot obtain; ye fight and war and have not that which ye desire because ye ask not. ³ Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your pleasures.

² so that now the time that remains in the flesh, he might live, not unto the lusts of men, but unto the will of God. ³ For it should suffice us that during the time past of our life we had done the will of the Gentiles, when we conversed in lasciviousness, lusts, drunkenness, gluttony, orgies, and abominable idolatries.

⁹ Keep thyself that there not be a thought of Belial in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother to give him nothing; for he shall cry unto the LORD against thee, and it shall be a sin unto thee.

⁵⁴ The man that is tender among you and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother and toward the wife of his bosom and toward the remnant of his children which he shall leave,

⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you who would not venture to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter

⁸ And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him, and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands; and what can he have more but the kingdom? ⁹ And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

²⁵ But Hezekiah did not render again according to the benefit done unto him, for his heart lifted itself up; therefore there was wrath against him and against Judah and Jerusalem. ²⁶ Notwithstanding, Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

³¹ However, because of the ambassadors {Heb. scorners} of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that had happened in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

⁴ The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, does not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

²³ ¶ The sane man conceals his wisdom: but the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.

¹⁵ ¶ Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

⁶ ¶ Do not eat the bread of anyone who has an evil eye, neither desire his dainty foods;

⁹ The thought of the foolish is sin, and the scorner is an abomination to men.

²² ¶ Though thou should bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet his foolishness will not depart from him.

²² ¶ He that hastens to be rich has an evil eye and does not consider that poverty shall come upon him.

²⁵ I applied my heart to know and to search and to seek out wisdom and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly and the madness of error;

³ The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? ⁴ Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle and though thou set thy nest among the stars, from there I will bring thee down, said the LORD.

²³ But if thine eye is evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If, therefore, the light that is in thee is darkness, how great is that darkness!

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good?

⁵ casting down reasonings and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and leading captive every thought into the obedience of the Christ

¹⁵ For this is the will of God, that in well doing ye may silence the ignorance of vain men,

⁵ ¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

¹⁸ And he said unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not understand that anything from outside that enters into the man cannot defile him?

¹⁷ If anyone defiles the temple of God, God shall destroy that one; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

⁸ ¶ In the same manner these deceived dreamers, defile their flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of higher powers.

¹⁵ ¶ And Canaan begat Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth

¹⁹ And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar unto Gaza, as thou goest, unto Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboim, even unto Lasha.

¹³ ¶ Zebulun shall dwell at the port of the sea; and he shall be for a port of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon.

²⁸ and includes Abran, {Hebron} Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah, even unto great Zidon; ²⁹ and this border turns from there to Horma {Ramah} and to the strong city of Zor; {Tyre}; and this border turns to Hosah and comes out to the sea from the stronghold of Achzib,

¹ ¶ The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish, for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in; from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them. ² Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou mart of Zidon, that by passing over the sea thou wert replenished. ³ Her provision was from the plantings that grow with the many waters of the Nile, of the harvest of the river. She was also the mart of the Gentiles. ⁴ Be thou ashamed, O Zidon, for the sea has spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I have never travailed nor brought forth children, neither did I nourish up young men nor bring up virgins.

¹² And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon; arise, pass over to Chittim, and even there thou shalt have no rest.

² He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the streets.

² Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyre, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Because thy heart has lifted thee up and thou hast said, I am God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas (yet thou art man, and not God); and thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God:

²¹ Son of man, set thy face against Zidon and prophesy against her ²² and say, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Behold, I am against thee, O Zidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of thee; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her and shall be sanctified in her.

²⁸ And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yes, Lord.

²¹ Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

²¹ ¶ Then Jesus left there and departed into the parts of Tyre and Sidon. ²² And, behold, a woman of Canaan having come out of the same borders cried unto him, saying, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me; my daughter is sick, possessed by a demon. ²³ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away, for she cries out after us. ²⁴ But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ²⁵ Then she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. ²⁶ But he answered and said, It is not good to take the children’s bread and to cast it to the little dogs. ²⁷ And she said, Yes, Lord, yet the little dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. ²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith; be it unto thee even as thou desire. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

¹ ¶ And again he entered into Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that he was in the house.

⁷ But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea, and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea ⁸ and from Jerusalem and from Idumaea and from beyond Jordan. And those who dwell around Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, hearing what great things he did, came unto him.

³¹ And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest a while; for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. ³² And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

²⁵ Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.

²² And, behold, a woman of Canaan having come out of the same borders cried unto him, saying, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me; my daughter is sick, possessed by a demon.

⁴⁰ ¶ And a leper came to him, beseeching him and kneeling down to him and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

²² And one of the princes of the synagogue came, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet ²³ and besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death; come and lay thy hands on her that she may be saved, and she shall live.

³³ But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him and told him all the truth.

¹⁷ And one of the multitude answering, said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, who has a dumb spirit; ¹⁸ and wherever he takes him, he tears him, and he foams and gnashes with his teeth and pines away; and I spoke to thy disciples that they should cast him out, and they could not. ¹⁹ Answering, he said unto him, O unfaithful generation, how long shall I be with you? How long must I suffer you? Bring him unto me. ²⁰ And they brought him unto him; and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tore him; and he fell on the ground and wallowed foaming. ²¹ And Jesus asked his father, How long ago is it since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. ²² And ofttimes it has cast him into the fire and into the waters to kill him, but if thou canst do any thing, help us, having mercy on us. ²³ And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe this, all things are possible to him that believes.

¹⁶ and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan.

²⁵ And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshipped him. ²⁶ But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

⁸ And I, John, saw these things and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. ⁹ Then he said unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowslave and with thy brethren the prophets and with those who keep the words of this book: worship God.

¹² Behold, these shall come from far; and, behold, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.

²⁸ Here there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

¹¹ where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian nor Scythian, slave nor free: but Christ is all and in all.

⁶ Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn again and rend you.

⁵ ¶ These twelve Jesus sent forth and commanded them, saying, Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter into any city of the Samaritans,

²¹ And he said unto me, Depart, for I will send thee far from here unto the Gentiles.

⁸ Now I say that Christ Jesus, was a minister of the circumcision, by the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers;

¹² that at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world,

¹⁶ Pe Thou dost open thine hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

²² Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no one else.

⁶ And he said, It is a light thing that thou should be my slave to wake up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the desolations of Israel; I have also given thee for a light to the Gentiles that thou may be my saving health unto the end of the earth.

⁴⁵ that ye may be sons of your Father who is in the heavens, for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

⁶ Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself, for I am not worthy that thou should enter under my roof; ⁷ therefore neither did I think myself worthy to come unto thee but say the word, and my slave shall be healed. ⁸ For I also am a man set under authority, having soldiers under me, and I say unto one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my slave, Do this, and he does it.

³⁰ But as soon as this thy son was come who has devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed the fatted calf for him. ³¹ And he said unto him, Son, thou art always with me, and all that I have is thine. ³² It was necessary that we should make merry and be glad, for this thy brother was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.

¹⁷ So then, if God gave them the same gift as he did unto us, who have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I should withstand God? ¹⁸ When they heard these things, they were silent and glorified God, saying, Then God has also granted repentance unto life to the Gentiles.

²⁹ Is he the God of the Jews only? Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also,

¹² ¶ For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

⁸ Now I say that Christ Jesus, was a minister of the circumcision, by the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers; ⁹ but that the Gentiles glorify God by mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess thee among the Gentiles and sing unto thy name.

¹² that at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world, ¹³ but now in Christ Jesus ye who at another time were far off are made near by the blood of the Christ. ¹⁴ ¶ For he is our peace, who of both has made one, breaking down the middle wall of separation,

⁸ Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of the Christ

¹⁵ For thus has said the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is The Holy One; I dwell in the high place and in holiness and with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit to cause the spirit of the humble to live and to cause the heart of the contrite ones to live. ¹⁶ For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for by me is the spirit covered by the body, and I have made the souls.

² For all these things my hand has made, by my hand has these things been, said the LORD; but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit and trembles at my word.

³ ¶ Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

⁹ For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me; and I say to this man, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my slave, Do this, and he does it. ¹⁰ When Jesus heard it, he marvelled and said to those that followed, Verily I say unto you that not even in Israel have I found such faith. ¹¹ But I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west and shall sit down at the table with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of the heavens. ¹² But the sons of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ¹³ Then Jesus said unto the centurion, Go, and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in that same hour.

⁸ He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God appeared, that he might undo the works of the devil.

⁵⁰ Jesus said unto him, Go; thy son lives. And the man believed the word that Jesus spoke unto him, and he went. ⁵¹ And as he was now going down, his slaves met him and told him, saying, Thy son lives. ⁵² Then he enquired of them the hour when he began to get better. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

¹⁸ ¶ And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon, called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers.

²⁵ And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, from Decapolis, from Jerusalem, from Judaea and from beyond Jordan.

²⁹ ¶ And Jesus left there and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee and went up into the mountain and sat down there. ³⁰ And many people came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many other sick and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them, ³¹ insomuch that the multitude wondered when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see, and they glorified the God of Israel.

²⁰ And he went and began to publish in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done with him, and everyone marveled.

²⁴ ¶ And from there he arose and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entering into a house, desired that no man know of it; but he could not be hid.

³² And as they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a demon. ³³ And when the demon was cast out, the dumb man spoke; and the multitude marvelled, saying, Such a thing has never been seen in Israel.

²³ and besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death; come and lay thy hands on her that she may be saved, and she shall live.

¹⁴ ¶ And he was casting out a demon, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the demon was gone out, the one who had been dumb spoke; and the people marvelled.

¹⁹ And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom and carried him up into the chamber where he abode and laid him upon his own bed. ²⁰ And he cried unto the LORD and said, O LORD my God, hast thou even brought evil upon the widow, with whom I sojourn, by killing her son? ²¹ And he stretched himself upon the child three times and cried unto the LORD and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again. ²² And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

⁴ Then enter in and shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons and pour out into all those vessels, and as each one is full, set it aside. ⁵ So she went from him and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her, and she poured out the oil. ⁶ And when the vessels were full, she said unto her son, Bring me yet another vessel. And he said unto her, There are no more vessels. Then the oil stopped flowing.

³³ He went in therefore and shut the door upon both of them and prayed unto the LORD. ³⁴ Then he went up and lay upon the child and put his mouth upon his mouth and his eyes upon his eyes and his hands upon his hands; thus he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.

⁴⁰ And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he took the father and the mother of the damsel and those that were with him and entered in where the damsel was lying.

²³ So, taking the blind man by the hand, he led him out of the town; and spitting into his eyes and putting his hands upon them, he asked him if he saw anything.

⁶ When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay ⁷ and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). Then he went and washed and came back seeing.

³ He is despised and rejected among men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with weakness; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

⁶ Cry out therefore, thou son of man, with the breaking of thy loins; and with bitterness cry out before their eyes. ⁷ And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Why criest thou? that thou shalt answer, For the tidings that come; and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint; and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it comes and shall be brought to pass, said the Lord GOD.

⁴¹ And Jesus, having mercy on him, put forth his hand and touched him and said unto him, I will; be thou clean.

⁴¹ And taking the damsel by the hand, he said unto her, Talitha cumi, which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

⁴¹ And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples to set before them, and the two fishes he divided among them all.

¹² And crying out in his spirit, he said, Why does this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

³⁴ And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

¹⁴ And he came and touched the bier, and those that bore him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.

⁴² And Jesus said unto him, See; thy faith has saved thee.

⁴¹ ¶ And when he was come near, he beheld the city and wept over it,

³³ ¶ When Jesus therefore saw her weeping and the Jews also weeping who came with her, he became enraged in the Spirit and stirred himself up

³⁵ Jesus wept.

³⁸ Jesus therefore, becoming enraged again in himself, came to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

⁴¹ Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus, lifting up his eyes, said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

⁴³ And having said these things, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

¹ ¶ Jesus spoke these words and lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour is come; clarify thy Son, that thy Son may also clarify thee,

³⁴ And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, the Lord Jesus, the Christ, makes thee whole; arise and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.

⁴⁰ Then Peter put them all out and knelt down and prayed and turned to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes; and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

⁹ For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it came into being.

³ And the eyes of those that see shall not be dim, and the ears of those that hear shall hearken. ⁴ The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.

⁵ ¶ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. ⁶ Then the lame one shall leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall praise; for waters shall be dug in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.

⁵ The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

¹² And by and by he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, We never saw anything like unto this.

⁴ Then Jesus said unto him, See thou tell no one; but go, show thyself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

⁴⁴ and said unto him, See thou say nothing to any man, but go, show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. ⁴⁵ But he went out and began to publish it much and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places; and they came to him from every quarter.

¹² And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.

⁴³ And he charged them straitly that no one should know it and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

²⁶ And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.

³¹ ¶ And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

¹⁰ ¶ Then Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither up until now, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy slave; but I am slow of speech and of a slow tongue. ¹¹ And the LORD said unto him, Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the dumb or the deaf or the seeing or the blind? Am not I the LORD?

¹⁴ I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are thy works, and that, my soul knows right well.

²⁷ And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? What new doctrine is this? for he commands the unclean spirits with power, and they obey him.

⁴¹ And they feared exceedingly and said one to another, Who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

⁴² And straightway the damsel arose and walked, for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

⁵¹ And he went up unto them into the ship, and the wind ceased; and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure and wondered.

⁴¹ And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing amiss.

⁷ And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these who speak Galilaeans? ⁸ And how do we hear each one speak in our own tongue, with which we were brought up? ⁹ Parthians and Medes and Elamites and the dwellers in Mesopotamia and in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia, ¹⁰ Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, ¹¹ Cretes and Arabians, we hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. ¹² And they were all amazed and were in doubt, saying one to another, What does this mean?

¹⁰ and they knew that it was he who sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. ¹¹ And as the lame man who was healed held onto Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering. ¹² ¶ And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own virtue or godliness we had made this man walk? ¹³ The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus, whom ye delivered up and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he had judged to let him go.

¹¹ And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men.
