¹ ¶ And Moses spoke unto the princes of the tribes concerning the sons of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD has commanded. ² When a man vows a vow unto the LORD or swears an oath to bind his soul with a bond, he shall not defile his word: he shall do according to all that proceeded out of his mouth. ³ ¶ But the woman, when she shall vow a vow unto the LORD and bind herself by a bond, being in her father’s house in her youth, ⁴ and her father hears her vow and her bond with which she has bound her soul, and her father shall remain silent regarding it, then all her promises shall stand, and every bond with which she has bound her soul shall stand. ⁵ But if her father disallows her in the day that he hears all of her vows and of her bonds with which she has bound her soul, they shall not stand, and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her. ⁶ But if she had at all a husband when she vowed or pronounced anything out of her lips, with which she bound her soul, ⁷ if her husband heard it and remained silent regarding it in the day that he heard it, then her vows shall stand, and her bonds with which she bound her soul shall stand. ⁸ But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it, then her vow which she vowed and that which she pronounced with her lips, with which she bound her soul, shall be of no effect, and the LORD shall forgive her. ⁹ But every vow of a widow and of her that is divorced, with which they have bound their souls, shall stand. ¹⁰ And if she vowed in her husband’s house or bound her soul by a bond with an oath; ¹¹ if her husband heard it and remained silent regarding it and did not disallow her, then all her vows shall stand, and every bond with which she bound her soul shall stand. ¹² But if her husband has utterly made them void on the day he heard them, then whatever proceeded out of her lips concerning her vows or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand; her husband has made them void, and the LORD shall forgive her. ¹³ Every vow and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void. ¹⁴ But if her husband remained silent regarding this from day to day; then he establishes all her vows or all her bonds, which are upon her; he confirms them because he remained silent regarding this in the day that he heard them. ¹⁵ But if he shall in any way make them void after that he has heard them, then he shall bear her iniquity. ¹⁶ These are the statutes which the LORD commanded Moses between a man and his wife and between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father’s house.

²⁵ And Moses chose men of virtue out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, princes over thousands, over hundreds, over fifties, and over tens.

⁴ And with you there shall be a man of every tribe, every one head of the house of his fathers. ⁵ And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben, Elizur, the son of Shedeur; ⁶ of Simeon, Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai; ⁷ of Judah, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab; ⁸ of Issachar, Nethaneel, the son of Zuar; ⁹ of Zebulun, Eliab, the son of Helon; ¹⁰ of the sons of Joseph, of Ephraim, Elishama, the son of Ammihud; of Manasseh, Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur; ¹¹ of Benjamin, Abidan, the son of Gideoni; ¹² of Dan, Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai; ¹³ of Asher, Pagiel, the son of Ocran; ¹⁴ of Gad, Eliasaph, the son of Deuel; ¹⁵ of Naphtali, Ahira, the son of Enan; ¹⁶ these were the renowned of the congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, captains of the thousands of Israel.

² that the princes of Israel, heads of the houses of their fathers, who were the princes of the tribes, and were over those that were numbered, offered;

¹⁷ These are the names of the men who shall divide the possession of the land for you: Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua, the son of Nun. ¹⁸ And ye shall take one prince of every tribe to divide the possession of the land. ¹⁹ And the names of the men are these: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh. ²⁰ And of the tribe of the sons of Simeon, Shemuel, the son of Ammihud. ²¹ Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad, the son of Chislon. ²² And the of the tribe of the sons of Dan, the prince Bukki, the son of Jogli. ²³ Of the sons of Joseph: of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh, the prince Hanniel, the son of Ephod. ²⁴ And of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim, the prince Kemuel, the son of Shiphtan. ²⁵ And of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun, the prince Elizaphan, the son of Parnach. ²⁶ And of the tribe of the sons of Issachar, the prince Paltiel, the son of Azzan. ²⁷ And of the tribe of the sons of Asher, the prince Ahihud, the son of Shelomi. ²⁸ And of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali, the prince Pedahel, the son of Ammihud.

¹³ Give me from among you, of your tribes, wise and understanding and expert men, and I will make them the head over you. ¹⁴ And ye answered me and said, The thing which thou hast spoken is good for us to do. ¹⁵ So I took the principals of your tribes, wise men and experts, and made them princes over you, princes over thousands and princes over hundreds and princes over fifties and princes over tens and officers among your tribes. ¹⁶ And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren and judge righteously between every man and his brother and the stranger that is with him. ¹⁷ Ye shall not respect persons in judgment, but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s; and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.

²⁰ And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me bread to eat and clothing to put on ²¹ so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then shall the LORD be my God; ²² and this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house; and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth part unto thee.

⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain for the LORD will not hold guiltless anyone that takes his name in vain.

⁴ Also the person who swears, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatever it is that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it is hid from him, when he knows of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these.

² Speak unto the sons of Israel and say unto them, When someone shall make a special vow unto the LORD, according to the estimation of the persons that are to be redeemed, thus shall be thy estimation: ³ Regarding the male from twenty years old even unto sixty years old, thy estimation shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the shekel of the sanctuary. ⁴ And if it is a female, then thy estimation shall be thirty shekels. ⁵ And if it is from five years old even unto twenty years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels. ⁶ And if it is from a month old even unto five years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male five shekels of silver, and for the female thy estimation shall be three shekels of silver. ⁷ And if it is from sixty years old and above, if it is a male, then thy estimation shall be fifteen shekels, and for the female ten shekels. ⁸ But if he is poorer than thy estimation, then he shall present himself before the priest, and the priest shall value him; according to the ability of the one that vowed shall the priest value him. ⁹ And if it is an animal which is offered unto the LORD, all that anyone gives of such unto the LORD shall be holy. ¹⁰ He shall not alter it nor change it, a good for a bad, or a bad for a good; and if he shall exchange one animal for another, then it and the one exchanged thereof shall belong to the sanctuary. ¹¹ And if it is an unclean animal, which cannot be offered as a sacrifice unto the LORD, then he shall present the animal before the priest; ¹² and the priest shall value it, whether it is good or bad; according to the estimation of the priest, so shall it be. ¹³ But if it must be redeemed, then they shall add a fifth part thereof unto thy estimation. ¹⁴ ¶ And when a man shall sanctify his house to be holy unto the LORD, then the priest shall value it, whether it is good or bad; as the priest shall value it, so shall it stand. ¹⁵ And if he that sanctified it will redeem his house, then he shall add the fifth part of the money of thy estimation unto it, and it shall be his. ¹⁶ And if a man shall sanctify unto the LORD some part of a field of his possession, then thy estimation shall be according to the seed thereof; one homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver. ¹⁷ If he sanctifies his field from the year of jubilee, according to thy estimation it shall stand. ¹⁸ But if he sanctifies his field after the jubilee, then the priest shall reckon unto him the money according to the years that remain until the year of the jubilee, and it shall be abated from thy estimation. ¹⁹ And if he that sanctified the field desires to redeem it, then he shall add the fifth part of the money of thy estimation unto it, and it shall be assured to him. ²⁰ But if he should not redeem the field, and if the field is sold to another, it shall not be redeemed any more; ²¹ but the field, when it goes out in the jubilee, shall be holy unto the LORD, as a field of anathema; the possession thereof shall be the priest’s. ²² And if anyone sanctifies unto the LORD a field which he has bought, which is not of the fields of his inheritance, ²³ then the priest shall reckon unto him the worth of thy estimation until the year of the jubilee; and that day he shall give thy assigned price, as a holy thing unto the LORD. ²⁴ In the year of the jubilee the field shall return unto the one of whom it was bought, unto whom the inheritance of the land did belong. ²⁵ And all thy values shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary; twenty gerahs shall be the shekel. ²⁶ ¶ But the firstborn of the animals, which because it is firstborn belongs to the LORD, no one shall sanctify it; whether it is ox or sheep, it is the LORD’s. ²⁷ And if it is of an unclean beast, it shall be ransomed according to thy estimation, and they shall add a fifth part unto it; or if it is not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to thy estimation. ²⁸ But no anathema, that anyone shall devote unto the LORD of all that they have of men and animals and of the fields of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed. All anathema is most holy unto the LORD. ²⁹ Any anathema of men which is devoted shall not be ransomed, but shall surely be put to death. ³⁰ And all the tithes of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’s; it is holiness unto the LORD. ³¹ And if anyone desires to redeem anything of his tithes, he shall add thereto the fifth part thereof. ³² And concerning the tithe of the cows or of the sheep, even of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth shall be holiness unto the LORD. ³³ He shall not search whether it is good or bad, neither shall he change it; and if he changes it at all, then both it and the change thereof shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed. ³⁴ These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the sons of Israel in Mount Sinai.

²¹ When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not delay to pay it; for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee. ²² But if thou shalt forbear to vow, it shall not be sin in thee. ²³ That which is gone out of thy lips thou shalt keep and perform, that which thou hast promised unto the LORD thy God, that which thou hast spoken of thy free will with thy mouth.

¹¹ Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and prince over them; and Jephthah spoke all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh.

³⁰ And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the sons of Ammon into my hands, ³¹ whoever comes forth of the doors of my house to meet me when I return in peace from the sons of Ammon shall surely be the LORD’s, and I will offer them up for a burnt offering.

³⁵ And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of those that trouble me, for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back. ³⁶ And she said unto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which has proceeded out of thy mouth, forasmuch as the LORD has taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, even of the sons of Ammon.

³⁹ And it came to pass at the end of two months that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed. And she had never known a man. From here came the custom in Israel

²⁷ Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.

³ He that does not backbite with his tongue nor do evil to his neighbour nor take up a reproach against his neighbour.

²⁵ My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before those that fear him.

¹⁴ Sacrifice praise unto God and pay thy vows unto the most High

²⁰ He has put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him; he has defiled his covenant.

¹² Thy promises are upon me, O God; I will render praises unto thee.

¹³ ¶ I will go into thy house with burnt offerings; I will pay thee my vows, ¹⁴ which my lips have uttered and my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble.

¹¹ Vow and pay unto the LORD your God; let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.

¹⁴ I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.

¹⁰⁶ ¶ I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep the judgments of thy righteousness.

²⁵ ¶ It is a snare unto man to devour that which is holy and afterward to reconsider his vows.

⁴ ¶ When thou dost vow a vow unto God, do not defer to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools; pay that which thou hast vowed. ⁵ It is better that thou should not vow than that thou should vow and not pay.

¹⁵ Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that brings good tidings, of him that publishes peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows; for Belial shall no longer pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.

¹⁸ And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever swears by the gift that is upon it, he is a debtor.

¹² ¶ And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together and they vowed under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.

¹⁴ And they came to the princes of the priests and the elders and said, We have made a vow of anathema that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.

⁴ For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother, and, He that curses father or mother, let him die without recourse. ⁵ But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, Whatever I might have helped thee with is already my offering unto God, ⁶ and now has no need to honour his father or his mother with succour. Thus ye have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

¹⁰ For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother, and, Whosoever curses father or mother shall most definitely die. ¹¹ But ye say, It is enough if a man shall say to his father or mother, It is all Corban, (that is to say, my gift to God) whatever with which thou mightest be profited by me. ¹² And ye suffer him to do no more for his father or for his mother, ¹³ invalidating the word of God with your tradition, which ye have given; and many such like things do ye.

¹ ¶ Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

¹⁶ ¶ Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth sons; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

⁴ The wife does not have authority of her own body, but the husband; and likewise also the husband does not have authority of his own body, but the wife.

³⁴ ¶ Let your women keep silence in the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be in subjection, as also saith the law.

²² Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband, as unto the Lord. ²³ For the husband is the head of the wife even as the Christ is head of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, and it is he who gives saving health to the body. ²⁴ Therefore, as the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} is subject unto the Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.

⁷ They shall not take a wife that is a whore or profane; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband; for he is holy unto his God.

³⁷ and she was a widow eighty-four years, who departed not from the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers.

² For the woman who is subject to a husband is obligated to the law so long as the husband lives; but if the husband dies, she is free from the law of the husband.

²⁵ And the priest shall reconcile all the congregation of the sons of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them, for it is ignorance; and they shall bring their offering, an offering on fire unto the LORD and their sins before the LORD which they committed in their ignorance.

²⁸ And the priest shall reconcile the soul that errs ignorantly, when he sins by ignorance before the LORD, he shall be reconciled; and it shall be forgiven him.

⁵ But if her father disallows her in the day that he hears all of her vows and of her bonds with which she has bound her soul, they shall not stand, and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her.

⁸ But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it, then her vow which she vowed and that which she pronounced with her lips, with which she bound her soul, shall be of no effect, and the LORD shall forgive her.

³ But I would have you know that the head of every man is the Christ, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.

²⁹ ¶ And you shall hold this as a perpetual statute: In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls and do no work at all, whether it is a natural of your own country or a stranger that sojourns among you;

²⁷ But the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the day of reconciliations; it shall be a holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls and offer an offering made on fire unto the LORD.

³² It shall be unto you a sabbath of sabbaths, and ye shall afflict your souls, beginning in the ninth day of the month in the evening, from evening unto evening, shall ye rest on your sabbath.

⁷ And ye shall have on the tenth of this seventh month a holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls; ye shall not do any work;

²¹ ¶ Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us and for our little ones and for all our substance.

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer rose up in my bosom.

⁵ Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast and an acceptable day to the LORD?

⁵ Do not defraud one another, except it be with mutual consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer and come together again, that Satan not tempt you for your incontinency.

⁹ Neither was the man created for the woman, but the woman for the man.

¹ ¶ Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, so that also those who do not obey the Word, may be won without a word by the conversation of their wives, ² considering your chaste conversation which is in fear. ³ Let their adorning not be outward with ostentatious hairdos and wearing of gold nor in composition of apparel, ⁴ but let the interior adorning of the heart be without corruption, and of an agreeable spirit and peaceful, which is precious in the sight of God. ⁵ For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who waited upon God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands, ⁶ as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, of whom ye are made daughters, doing well and not being afraid of any terror.

²⁸ Here there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

⁴⁶ This is the law of the animals and of the fowls and of every living creature that moves in the waters and of every animal that creeps upon the earth: ⁴⁷ to make a difference between the unclean and the clean and between the animals that may be eaten and the animals that may not be eaten.

⁵⁹ This is the law of the plague of leprosy in a garment of woolen or linen, either in the warp or woof or anything of skins, to pronounce it clean or to pronounce it unclean.

⁵⁴ ¶ This is the law for all manner of plague of leprosy and scall ⁵⁵ and for the leprosy of a garment and of a house ⁵⁶ and for a rising and for a scab and for a bright spot, ⁵⁷ to teach when it is unclean and when it is clean: this is the law of leprosy.

³² This is the law of the one that has an issue and of him whose seed goes forth from him, causing him to be unclean because of it, ³³ and of her that is suffering her menstruation, and of the one that has an issue, male or female, and of the man that lies with an unclean woman.

²⁹ This is the law of jealousies when a woman goes astray, being under the power of her husband, and is defiled; ³⁰ or of the husband upon whom a spirit of jealousy comes, and he is jealous over his wife; he shall then present the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute in her all this law.
