¹ ¶ Of man are the preparations of the heart, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. ² ¶ All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirits. ³ ¶ Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. ⁴ ¶ The LORD has made all things by himself, yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. ⁵ ¶ Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; the covenant that he makes, shall not be without chastening. ⁶ ¶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged, and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil. ⁷ ¶ When a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. ⁸ ¶ Better is a little with righteousness than a great number of fruits with injustice. ⁹ ¶ The heart of man devises his way, but the LORD directs his steps. ¹⁰ ¶ A divine sentence is in the lips of the king; his mouth does not transgress in judgment. ¹¹ ¶ A just weight and balance are the LORD’s; all the weights of the bag are his work. ¹² ¶ It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness, for the throne is to be established with righteousness. ¹³ ¶ Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him that speaks that which is right. ¹⁴ ¶ The wrath of the king is as a messenger of death, but the wise man will avoid it. ¹⁵ In the light of the king’s countenance is life, and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain. ¹⁶ ¶ How much better is it to acquire wisdom than gold! and to acquire understanding is worth more than silver! ¹⁷ ¶ The highway of the upright is to separate himself from evil; he that keeps his way preserves his soul. ¹⁸ ¶ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. ¹⁹ ¶ It is better to humble your spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud. ²⁰ ¶ He who has understanding in the word shall find good, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD. ²¹ ¶ The wise in heart is called a man of understanding; and the sweetness of the lips shall increase doctrine. ²² ¶ Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that has it, but the instruction of fools is folly. ²³ ¶ The heart of the wise causes his mouth to be prudent, and with his lips he shall increase doctrine. ²⁴ ¶ Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and medicine to the bones. ²⁵ ¶ There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. ²⁶ ¶ The soul of him that labours, labours for himself; for his mouth craves it of him. ²⁷ ¶ The man of Belial digs in search of evil, and in his lips there is as a burning fire. ²⁸ The perverse man sows strife, and the tale bearer separates princes. ²⁹ ¶ The evil man flatters his neighbour and leads him into the way that is not good. ³⁰ He shuts his eyes to devise perverse things; moving his lips he brings evil to pass. ³¹ ¶ Old age is a crown of glory if it is found in the way of righteousness. ³² ¶ He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city. ³³ ¶ The lot is cast into the lap, but the judgment thereof is of the LORD.

¹¹ And the LORD said unto him, Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the dumb or the deaf or the seeing or the blind? Am not I the LORD? ¹² Now therefore go and I will be with thy mouth and teach thee what thou shalt say.

¹⁵ And thou shalt speak unto him and put words in his mouth; and I will be with thy mouth and with his mouth and will teach you what ye shall do.

³¹ And when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore, they compassed about him to fight; but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God separated them from him.

²⁷ ¶ Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, who has put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to honour the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem,

¹¹ O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy slave and to the prayer of thy slaves who desire to fear thy name; and prosper, I pray thee, thy slave this day, and grant him grace before this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer.

¹⁷ LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart; thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

³⁶ Incline my heart unto thy testimonies and not to covetousness.

⁹ ¶ The heart of man devises his way, but the LORD directs his steps.

²¹ ¶ There are many thoughts in the heart of man; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD shall stand.

²⁴ ¶ Man’s steps are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

¹ ¶ The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water, he turns it wherever he will.

⁷ But the LORD said unto me, Do not say, I am a child; for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. ⁸ Do not be afraid of their faces; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. ⁹ Then the LORD put forth his hand and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

²³ O LORD, I know that man is not the lord of his own way: it is not in man that walks to order his steps.

³⁹ and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for ever for the good of them and of their sons after them: ⁴⁰ and I will make an eternal covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good, and I will put my fear in their hearts that they shall not depart from me.

²⁶ And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. ²⁷ And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my commandments, and ye shall keep my rights, and do them.

¹⁹ But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak, for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. ²⁰ For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

¹¹ And when they bring you unto the synagogues and unto magistrates and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer or what ye shall say; ¹² for the Holy Spirit shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

¹⁴ Settle it therefore in your hearts not to meditate before what ye shall answer; ¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

¹⁶ ¶ But thanks be to God, who put the same diligence into the heart of Titus for you.

¹³ For it is God who works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

¹⁶ Do not err, my beloved brethren. ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning. ¹⁸ He, of his own will, has begotten us with the word of truth, that we should be the firstfruits of his creatures.

¹³ And Samuel came to Saul, and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the LORD; I have performed the commandment of the LORD. ¹⁴ Then Samuel said, What means then this bleating of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

⁷ And the LORD replied unto Samuel, Do not look on his countenance or on the height of his stature because I have refused him, for it is not as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.

² For he flatters himself in his own eyes until his iniquity is found to be hateful.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he weighs all his goings.

²⁵ ¶ There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

² ¶ Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD weighs the hearts.

¹² if thou should say, Behold, we knew it not; shall not he that weighs the hearts understand it? and he that keeps thy soul, does he not know it? and shall he not render to every man according to his works?

¹² There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

⁷ The way of the just is uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just.

²² For though thou wash thee with nitre and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is sealed before me, saith the Lord GOD. ²³ How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? See thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

¹⁰ I the LORD search the heart; I try the kidneys, even to give each man according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings.

²⁷ TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances and art found wanting.

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Ye are they who justify themselves before men, but God knows your hearts, for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

⁹ ¶ And he spoke this parable unto some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others: ¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee that I am not as other men are: extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

⁷ ¶ What shall we say then? Is the law sin? No, in no wise. But, I did not know sin except by the law; for neither would I have known lust if the law did not say, Thou shalt not covet. ⁸ Then sin, when there was occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of lust. For without the law sin was as if it were dormant. ⁹ So that without the law I lived for some time; but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

¹⁸ ¶ And unto the angel of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} in Thyatira write; These things, saith the Son of God, who has his eyes like unto a flame of fire and his feet like unto brilliant metal:

²³ And I will kill her children with death, and all the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} shall know that I AM he that searches the kidneys and hearts, and I will give unto each one of you according to your works.

⁸ I would certainly seek God, and unto God would I commit my affairs;

²⁸ Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

⁴ In the same manner delight thyself in the LORD, and he shall give thee the desires of thy heart. ⁵ Gimel Turn thy way unto the LORD and wait in him, and he shall bring it to pass.

²² Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee; he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

⁶ In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

⁵ Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah have taken evil counsel against thee saying, ⁶ Let us go up against Judah and vex it, and let us divide it between us and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal: ⁷ Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

²⁵ ¶ Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment? ²⁶ Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are ye not much better than they? ²⁷ Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? ²⁸ And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin; ²⁹ and yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ³⁰ Therefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? ³¹ Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, With what shall we be clothed? ³² For the Gentiles seek after all these things.) For your heavenly Father knows that ye have need of all these things. ³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. ³⁴ Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the affliction thereof.

²² ¶ And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.

⁷ casting all your cares upon him, for he cares for you.

³⁰ That the wicked is reserved for the day of destruction, they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

⁷ even every one that is called by my name, for I have created them for my glory; I have formed them; yea, I have made them.

²¹ This people I have formed for myself; they shall show forth my praise.

²² What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much meekness the vessels of wrath, prepared for death,

³⁶ For of him and by him and in him are all things. To him be the glory for the ages. Amen.

⁸ and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, even to those who stumble at the word, not obeying in that for which they were ordained.

³ ¶ and in covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words, upon whom the condemnation from a long time ago does not delay, and their perdition does not sleep.

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished;

¹¹ Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and virtue; for thou hast created all things, and by thy will they have their being and were created.

⁷ Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain for the LORD will not hold guiltless anyone that takes his name in vain.

¹² Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

¹⁶ These six things does the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: ¹⁷ A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride, arrogancy, the evil way, and the perverse mouth, do I hate.

²¹ ¶ No matter how many covenants he has made with death, the wicked shall not be absolved, but the seed of the righteous shall escape.

¹¹ Woe unto the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for according to the work of his hands it shall be done unto him.

⁸ but unto those that are contentious and do not obey the truth, but are persuaded by unrighteousness, indignation and wrath. ⁹ Tribulation and anguish shall be upon every human soul that does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek;

⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

¹¹ And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.

⁹ Also I said, What you do is not good, do you not walk in the fear of our God, that ye not be the reproach of our enemies the Gentiles?

¹⁵ But the former captains that had been before me had charged the people and had taken of them for bread and wine, upon forty shekels of silver; and in addition to this their servants bore rule over the people; but I did not do so because of the fear of God.

¹ ¶ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and departed from evil. ² And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. ³ His substance was seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she asses, and a very great store of servants, so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east. ⁴ ¶ And his sons went and had banquets in their houses, each one on his day, and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. ⁵ And it was so, when the days of their banquets were over, that Job sent and sanctified them and rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned and blasphemed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. ⁶ ¶ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. ⁷ And the LORD said unto Satan, Where dost thou come from? Then Satan answered the LORD and said, From going to and fro in the earth and from walking up and down in it. ⁸ And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my slave Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God and has departed from evil?

²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, that the fear of the Lord, is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹⁰ Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

¹⁶ ¶ The wise man fears and departs from evil, but the fool rages and is confident.

²⁷ The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

²⁸ ¶ Mercy and truth preserve the king, and his throne is upheld by mercy.

²⁷ Therefore, O king, approve my counsel and redeem thy sins with righteousness and thine iniquities with mercies unto the poor: behold the medicine for thy sin.

¹⁸ Who is a God like unto thee that pardons iniquity, and passes over the rebellion with the remnant of his heritage? He did not retain his anger for ever because he delights in mercy. ¹⁹ He will turn again, he will have mercy on us; he will subdue our iniquities; and will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. ²⁰ Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the times of old.

⁴¹ But rather give alms {lit. do acts of mercy} of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.

² Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he shall take away; and every one that bears fruit, he shall purge that they may bring forth more fruit.

⁹ and put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

¹ ¶ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

²¹ ¶ submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

²² Having purified your souls in the obedience of the truth, by the Spirit, in unfeigned brotherly love, love one another with a pure heart fervently,

⁴¹ ¶ And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will slay my brother Jacob.

⁶ And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he comes to meet thee, and four hundred men with him. ⁷ Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed, and he divided the people that were with him, and the sheep and the cows and the camels, into two bands

²⁸ And he said, Thy name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for thou hast fought with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

⁴ And Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him, and they wept.

¹⁰ ¶ And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they did not dare to make war against Jehoshaphat.

³¹ This also shall please the LORD better than the sacrifice of an ox or bullock that struggles with horns and hoofs.

¹¹ The LORD said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant; verily I will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.

¹ ¶ And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, came unto the prince of the priests ² and asked him for letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

¹⁹ And when he had received food, he was comforted. Then Saul was certain days with the disciples who were at Damascus. ²⁰ And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

³¹ ¶ What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who shall be against us?

¹⁸ But I have all and abound; I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.

¹⁰ that ye might walk worthy of the Lord, pleasing him in everything, being fruitful in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of God,

²⁰ Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

²¹ make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for the ages of the ages. Amen.

²² and whatsoever we ask, we receive of him because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

¹⁶ Tet A little that a righteous man has is better than the many riches of the sinners.

¹⁶ ¶ Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

⁶ ¶ The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of those that seek death. ⁷ ¶ The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them because they refuse to do judgment.

¹¹ As the partridge that steals that which she did not hatch, is he that gets riches and not with righteousness; in the midst of his days he shall leave them, and at his end shall be a fool.

¹⁰ Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked and the scant measure that is abominable?

⁶ ¶ But piety with contentment is great gain. ⁷ For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. ⁸ So that, sustenance and covering, let us be content with this. ⁹ For those that desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.

²³ Mem The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and he delights in his way.

³⁰ ¶ There is no wisdom nor intelligence nor counsel against the LORD.

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

⁵ Is this not the one in which my lord drinks and in which indeed he divines? Ye have done evil in so doing.

¹⁵ And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? Know ye not that such a man as I can certainly divine?

¹⁸ And it shall be when he sits upon the throne of his kingdom that he shall cause a copy of this second law to be written in a book in the presence of the priests the Levites; ¹⁹ and it shall be near unto him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them, ²⁰ that his heart be not lifted up above his brethren and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand or to the left, to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his sons, in the midst of Israel.

³ The God of Israel dictated unto me, the strong One of Israel spoke): He that rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. ⁴ And as the light of the morning when the sun rises, of a morning shining forth without clouds, as the shining forth through light rain upon the tender grass of the earth:

²⁸ And all Israel heard of that judgment which the king had judged, and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to judge.

⁶ ¶ Thy throne, O God, is eternal and for ever, the rod of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. ⁷ Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness; therefore God, thy God, has anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

¹ A Psalm for Solomon. ¶ Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son. ² ¶ He shall judge thy people with righteousness and thy poor with judgment. ³ The mountains shall bring peace to the people and the little hills by righteousness. ⁴ He shall judge the poor of the people; he shall save the children of the destitute and shall break in pieces the violent.

⁴ The king’s strength is that he loves judgment; thou dost establish equity; thou dost execute judgment and righteousness in Jacob.

¹² ¶ It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness, for the throne is to be established with righteousness. ¹³ ¶ Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him that speaks that which is right.

¹ ¶ Behold, one king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall preside unto judgment. ² And that man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a hot land.

⁵ Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper and shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. ⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this shall be his name by which they shall call him, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

⁴ They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment shall spring up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

⁷ Ye who turn judgment to wormwood and leave off doing righteousness in the earth,

¹² Shall horses run upon the rocks? will one plow there with oxen? why have ye turned judgment into hemlock, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood?

³⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in measurement of land, in weight, or in other measure. ³⁶ Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin shall ye have. I AM your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

¹³ ¶ Thou shalt not have in thy bag different weights, a great and a small. ¹⁴ Thou shalt not have in thy house different measures, a great and a small. ¹⁵ But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have, that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God gives thee.

¹ ¶ A false balance is abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight.

¹⁰ ¶ Double weights and double measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.

²³ ¶ Double weights are an abomination unto the LORD, and a false balance is not good.

¹⁰ Ye shall have just balances and a just ephah and a just bath.

⁷ ¶ He is a merchant who has the balances of deceit in his hand; he loves to oppress.

⁵ saying, When the month is over, we will sell the wheat; and after the sabbath day we will open the storehouse of bread, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit;

¹¹ Can I be pure with false balances and with a bag of deceitful weights?

¹⁶ For all that do such things and all that do unrighteously are an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

¹⁸ ¶ Every thought must be ordered by counsel, and with intelligence war is made.

⁵ Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

⁹ ¶ He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

¹⁴ ¶ The king that judges the poor with truth, his throne shall be established for ever.

⁴⁸ But he that knew not and did commit things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom much was committed, more will be asked of him.

¹¹ ¶ And I saw the heaven open, and behold a white horse; and he that was seated upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.

⁵ Whosoever secretly slanders his neighbour, I will cut off; he that has a high look and a proud heart I will not suffer. ⁶ My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; he that walks in the way of perfection, he shall serve me. ⁷ He that works deceit shall not dwell within my house; he that tells lies shall not tarry in my sight.

³⁵ ¶ The king’s favour is toward the wise slave, but his wrath is against him that causes shame.

¹¹ ¶ He that loves pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

³¹ Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha, the son of Shaphat, shall remain upon him today. ³² And Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man unto him. But before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door; is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him? ³³ And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him; and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; for what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

¹¹ ¶ The rebellious man seeks only evil; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

¹² ¶ The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion, but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

² ¶ The fear of the king is as the roaring of a lion; whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own soul.

⁴ ¶ If the spirit of the ruler rises up against thee, do not leave thy place; for meekness pacifies great sins.

¹³ Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king. ¹⁴ Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that ye do not honour my gods, nor worship the statue of gold which I have set up? ¹⁵ Now, are ye ready when ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and of every musical instrument to fall down and worship the statue which I made? For if ye do not worship, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that god that shall deliver you out of my hands? ¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, We are not careful to answer thee in this matter. ¹⁷ Behold, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. ¹⁸ But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not worship thy god, nor honour the statue which thou hast raised up. ¹⁹ ¶ Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was customary to be heated. ²⁰ And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. ²¹ Then these men were bound in their coats, their undergarments, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ²² Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. ²³ And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ²⁴ Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste and spoke and said unto his counsellors, Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. ²⁵ He answered and said, Behold, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

²⁷ And straightway the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought, and he went and beheaded him in the prison

⁴ And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of those that kill the body and, after that, have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, who, after being killed, has power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

²⁰ ¶ And Herod was highly displeased with those of Tyre and Sidon, but they came with one accord to him, and, having bribed Blastus, the king’s chamberlain, they asked for peace because their lands were supplied through those of the king’s.

²⁰ Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did exhort you by us; we beseech you in Christ’s name, be ye reconciled to God.

²³ And they waited for me as for the rain, and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain. ²⁴ If I laughed at them, they did not believe it; and they did not cast down the light of my countenance.

⁶ ¶ There are many that say, Who will show us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

⁶ For thou hast made him most blessed for ever; thou hast made him exceeding glad with thy countenance.

⁵ For his anger endures but a moment; in his will is life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

⁶ He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass as the dew that waters the earth.

³ And we shall know and follow on in knowing the LORD; his going forth is prepared as the dawn; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

¹ ¶ Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain, so the LORD shall make lightnings and shall give you abundant rain and grass in the field to each one.

²⁸ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

¹³ Man never knew its price; neither is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ ¶ The deep saith, It is not in me; and the sea saith, It is not with me. ¹⁵ It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for its price. ¹⁶ It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx or the sapphire. ¹⁷ Gold cannot equal it, nor can diamond; neither shall it be exchanged for vessels of fine gold. ¹⁸ No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls; for wisdom is better than precious stones. ¹⁹ The emerald of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold. ²⁰ ¶ Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living and kept concealed from every fowl of the heaven. ²² Hell and death say, We have heard its fame with our ears. ²³ God understands its way, and he alone knows its place. ²⁴ For he looks unto the ends of the earth and sees under the whole heaven, ²⁵ To make a weight for the wind and to supply water by measure, ²⁶ when he made a law for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunders. ²⁷ Then he saw it and counted it; he prepared it and also searched it out. ²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, that the fear of the Lord, is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹²⁷ ¶ Therefore I have loved thy commandments above gold, yea, above fine gold.

¹⁵ She is more precious than precious stones, and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand and in her left hand riches and honour. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those that lay hold upon her, and blessed is every one that retains her.

⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

¹⁰ Receive my chastening and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold. ¹¹ For wisdom is better than precious stones; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yea, than precious stones, and my revenue than choice silver.

¹² For knowledge is a defence, and money is a defence; but wisdom excels in that it gives life to those that have it.

²⁶ For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself and is not rich in God.

²⁴ Put away from thee the perversion of the mouth, and the deviation of the lips put far from thee. ²⁵ Let thine eyes look upon that which is right, and let thine eyelids straighten thy path before thee. ²⁶ Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. ²⁷ Turn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil.

⁹ ¶ He that walks in integrity walks securely, but he that perverts his ways shall be broken.

¹⁶ ¶ He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul, but he that despises his ways shall die.

⁸ And a highway shall be there and a way, and it shall be called The Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; and for those in it there shall be someone to go with them, in such a manner that the foolish shall not err therein.

¹³ But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

³⁵ but in every nation he that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.

¹⁶ And for this reason do I exercise myself to have always a conscience void of offense toward God and toward men.

¹⁰ not defrauding, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. ¹¹ ¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world; ¹³ waiting for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, ¹⁴ who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a people of his own, zealous of good works.

³⁹ But we are not of those who draw back unto perdition, but faithful unto the saving of the soul.

²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, unto eternal life,

²⁴ Now unto him that is powerful to keep you without sin and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

¹⁰ Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the entire world, to try those that dwell upon the earth.

⁵ And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not kneel or worship before him, then Haman was filled with wrath.

⁶ So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delights to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath was pacified.

² ¶ When pride comes, then comes shame, but with the humble is wisdom.

¹⁹ ¶ Transgression loves him that loves strife, and he that exalts his gate seeks destruction.

¹² ¶ Before being broken, the heart of man is haughty, and before coming into honour, comes being brought to humility.

²³ ¶ A man’s pride shall bring him low, but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. ¹² For the day of the LORD of the hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

¹⁰ Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Do not let thy God, in whom thou dost trust, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. ¹¹ Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly, and shalt thou be delivered? ¹² Have the gods of the Gentiles delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan and Haran and Rezeph and the sons of Eden which were in Telassar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath and the king of Arphad and the king of the city of Sepharvaim Hena, and Ivah?

³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

³⁰ the king spoke and said, Is this not the great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power and for the glory of my greatness? ³¹ The word was yet in the king’s mouth when there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O King Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee; ³² and they drive thee from among men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field; and they shall feed thee as the oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee until thou know that the most High takes rule in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will. ³³ The same hour the word was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from among men and ate grass as the oxen, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws. ³⁴ ¶ But at the end of the time I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up my eyes unto heaven, and my understanding was returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and glorified him that lives for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is through all ages: ³⁵ and all the inhabitants of the earth are counted as nothing; and in the army of heaven and in the inhabitants of the earth, he does according to his will; nor is there anyone who can interfere with his hand and say unto him, What doest thou? ³⁶ In the same time my reason was returned unto me, and I turned to the majesty of my kingdom; my dignity and greatness returned unto me; and my governors and my great ones sought me; and I was restored in my kingdom, and more excellent greatness was added unto me. ³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and build up and glorify the King of heaven because all his works are truth, and his ways judgment: and he is able to humble those that walk with arrogance.

²² And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

²⁴ Then from his presence was sent the palm of the hand that sculpted this writing.

³ The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? ⁴ Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle and though thou set thy nest among the stars, from there I will bring thee down, said the LORD.

³³ Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended in thee, yet I will never be offended. ³⁴ Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times. ³⁵ Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately a cock crew.

²⁰ Good; because of their unbelief they were broken off, but thou by faith art standing. Do not be highminded, but fear

⁶ not a novice, lest being puffed up, he fall into judgment of the devil.

⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my soul shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

¹⁸ Tzaddi The LORD is near unto those that are of a broken heart and saves such as are of a contrite spirit.

⁶ ¶ For the LORD, who is high and lifted up, looks upon the humble, but the proud he does not know.

³ As thou hast multiplied the nation, thou hast not increased the joy. They shall rejoice before thee as they rejoice in the harvest and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and upon the people of my wrath will I send him to take spoil and to take prey and to ready them that they might be tread down like the mire of the streets.

¹³ For he said, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I have been prudent: and I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures, and I have cast down as valiant ones those who were seated: ¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the peoples: and as one gathers eggs that are left, I have taken control over all the earth; and there was no one that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped. ¹⁵ Shall the axe boast itself against him that hews with it? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that moves it? as if the rod should rise up against those that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift itself up. Is it not wood?

¹² Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil unto the strong because he has poured out his soul unto death, and he was numbered with the rebellious, having born the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

¹⁵ For thus has said the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is The Holy One; I dwell in the high place and in holiness and with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit to cause the spirit of the humble to live and to cause the heart of the contrite ones to live.

³ ¶ Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

⁵¹ He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. ⁵² He has put down the mighty from their thrones and exalted the humble. ⁵³ He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away.

¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God, reconcile me, a sinner. ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for anyone that exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

³⁸ And Pharaoh said unto his slaves, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? ³⁹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God has showed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art. ⁴⁰ Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled; only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

²⁰ And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand and all that were with them, for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them because they put their trust in him.

¹² Kiss the Son lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way when his wrath is kindled in a little while. Blessed are all those that put their trust in him.

⁸ Cheth O taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man that shall trust in him.

¹ A Song of degrees. ¶ Those that trust in the LORD are as Mount Zion, which cannot be removed but abides for ever.

⁵ ¶ Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God;

³⁵ For whosoever finds me shall find life and shall obtain the will of the LORD.

¹⁵ ¶ Good understanding brings forth grace: but the way of transgressors is hard.

² ¶ A prudent slave shall have rule over a son that causes shame and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

⁸ ¶ He that gets wisdom loves his own soul; he keeps intelligence that he might find that which is good.

¹⁹ That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee. ²⁰ Have I not written unto thee three times in counsels and knowledge,

³ ¶ Through wisdom the house shall be built, and with intelligence it shall be established: ⁴ And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and beautiful riches. ⁵ The wise man is strong; and the man of understanding is a mighty man of valour.

³ Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusts in thee. ⁴ Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in JAH, the LORD is the strength of the ages:

¹⁸ ¶ And therefore will the LORD wait for you, that he may have mercy on you, and therefore will he be exalted having mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all those that wait for him.

⁷ Blessed is the man that is steadfast in the LORD and whose trust is the LORD. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out her roots by the river and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green and shall not be fatigued in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

¹⁹ And the king communed with them, and none among them all was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; and therefore they stood before the king. ²⁰ And in all matters of wisdom and intelligence, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. ²¹ And Daniel continued even unto the first year of King Cyrus.

²⁸ ¶ Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said, Blessed be the God of these, of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants that trusted in him and have changed the king’s word and yielded their bodies that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God

²³ Then the king was exceeding glad because of him and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury was found upon him because he believed in his God.

¹⁶ ¶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; be ye therefore prudent as serpents and innocent as doves.

¹² so that we should be to the praise of his glory, those of us who first trusted in the Christ. ¹³ In whom ye also trusted, hearing the word of truth, the gospel of your saving health; in whom also after ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of the promise,

¹² behold, I have done according to thy words: behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

² Thou art fairer than the sons of men, grace is poured into thy lips; therefore God has blessed thee for ever.

⁸ ¶ The wise in heart will receive the commandments, but he who speaks foolishness shall fall.

⁷ ¶ The lips of the wise disperse wisdom, but the heart of the foolish does not so.

²³ ¶ The heart of the wise causes his mouth to be prudent, and with his lips he shall increase doctrine. ²⁴ ¶ Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and medicine to the bones.

¹⁵ My son, if thy heart is wise, my heart shall also rejoice;

⁹ ¶ Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart, so does the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.

¹⁰ The preacher sought to find willing words and upright writings, even words of truth.

⁴ ¶ The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of the wise that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary; he wakes up early, early shall he awaken my ear, that I might hear, as the wise.

²² And all bore him witness and marvelled at the words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son?

⁴⁶ The officers answered, Never has anyone spoken like this man.

¹⁹ For your obedience is come abroad unto all places. I am glad therefore on your behalf, but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good and innocent concerning evil.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, modest, benevolent, full of mercy and of good fruits, not judgmental, unfeigned.

¹¹ ¶ The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life, but the mouth of the wicked covers violence.

¹⁴ ¶ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

² ¶ The tongue of the wise shall adorn wisdom, but the mouth of fools shall speak foolishness.

²⁸ ¶ The heart of the righteous studies to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

⁴ ¶ The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into a pit.

¹⁶ Woe unto you, ye blind guides, who say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! ¹⁷ Ye fools and blind, for which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? ¹⁸ And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever swears by the gift that is upon it, he is a debtor. ¹⁹ Ye fools and blind, for which one is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? ²⁰ Whosoever therefore shall swear by the altar, swears by it and by all things thereon. ²¹ And whosoever shall swear by the temple, swears by it and by Him that dwells therein. ²² And he that shall swear by the heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him that sits thereon. ²³ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin and have omitted that which is more important of the law: judgment, mercy, and faith; these were expedient for ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain at a gnat and swallow a camel. ²⁵ Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup or of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and incontinence. ²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter that the outside of them may be clean also.

³⁹ And he spoke a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? Shall they not both fall into the pit? ⁴⁰ The disciple is not above his master, but any one that is as the master shall be perfect.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word and believes him that sent me has eternal life and shall not come into judgment but has passed from death unto life.

⁶³ The Spirit is he that gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken unto you, they are Spirit and they are life.

⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

³⁰ Pe The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue brings forth judgment. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart; therefore none of his steps shall slide.

¹ To the Overcomer:
upon Shoshannim lilies, for the sons of Korah, Maschil, A Song of loves. ¶ My heart is overflowing with a good word; I speak of the things which I have done concerning the king; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

¹⁷ ¶ Bow down thine ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my wisdom. ¹⁸ For it is a delightful thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall be ordered together in thy lips.

³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ The good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things, and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

¹⁶ Let the word of the Christ dwell in you in abundance in all wisdom, teaching you and exhorting you one to another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with grace singing in your hearts unto the Lord.

² My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb and as the showers upon the grass.

¹⁰ More to be desired are they than gold, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

¹⁰³ ¶ How sweet have been thy spoken words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

⁸ It shall be medicine to thy navel and marrow to thy bones.

²² For they are life unto those that find them and medicine to all their flesh.

¹⁸ ¶ There are those that speak like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise is medicine.

²³ ¶ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

²⁶ ¶ The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD, but the speech of the pure is pure.

¹⁶ my kidneys shall also rejoice when thy lips speak right things.

¹³ ¶ My son, eat of the honey, because it is good, and of the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste: ¹⁴ So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: if thou shalt find it, and in the end thy hope shall not be cut off.

¹¹ ¶ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold inscribed with silver. ¹² As an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold, so is he who reproves a wise man who has a docile ear.

¹⁶ Thy words were found, and I ate them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: for thy name was called upon me, O LORD God of the hosts.

¹⁹ ¶ Then the same day at evening, being the first of the sabbaths, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst and said unto them, Peace be unto you. ²⁰ And having said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. ²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, Peace be unto you; as my Father has sent me, even so send I you.

¹⁵ ¶ The way of the fool is right in his own eyes, but he that hears counsel is wise.

²⁶ ¶ The righteous causes his neighbour to consider: but the way of the wicked causes them to err.

¹² ¶ There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

¹⁵ Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we are at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood we have hid ourselves: ¹⁶ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believes shall not make haste. ¹⁷ Judgment also will I lay to the line and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. ¹⁸ And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it. ¹⁹ From the time that it goes forth, it shall take you: for it shall come suddenly, by day and by night: and it shall be that the terror only causes one to understand the report.

⁴⁷ Then the Pharisees answered them, Are ye also deceived? ⁴⁸ Have any of the princes or of the Pharisees believed on him? ⁴⁹ But this people who do not know the law are cursed.

⁴⁰ And some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these words and said unto him, Are we blind also?

⁹ I verily had thought that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

⁵ Examine yourselves whether ye are in the faith; prove your own selves. Do ye not know your own selves if Jesus Christ is in you? Unless ye are reprobates.

¹² If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself; but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

²³ ¶ In all labour there is fruit, but to talk and not do, brings poverty.

⁷ ¶ All the labour of man is for his mouth, and with all this the appetite is not filled.

¹¹ and that ye procure to be quiet and to do your business and to work with your hands, as we commanded you, ¹² that ye may walk honestly toward those that are without, and that ye may desire nothing from any one.

⁸ neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought, but working with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, ⁹ Not because we did not have authority, but to give you an example that you might imitate us. ¹⁰ For even when we were with you, this we declared unto you, that if anyone desires not to work neither should he eat. ¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk among you out of order, not working at all, but are busybodies. ¹² Now those that are such, we charge and exhort in our Lord Jesus Christ, that working with quietness, they eat their bread.

¹⁷ Now, therefore, know and consider what thou must do, for evil is determined against our master and against all his household, for he is such a son of Belial that no one can speak to him.

¹ ¶ And a man of Belial happened to be there, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a man of Jemini, and he blew the shofar, saying, We have no part in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, O Israel.

¹⁴ from men, with thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, who have their portion in this life and whose belly thou dost fill with thy provision: they satisfy their sons and leave the rest to their family. ¹⁵ As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake with thy likeness.

² Thy tongue devises wickedness like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. ³ Thou dost love evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. ⁴ Thou dost love all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

⁴ My soul is among lions, and I lie even among those that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows and their tongue a sharp sword.

¹⁴ there is perversion in his heart; he devises evil continually; he sows discord.

¹⁸ ¶ Woe unto those that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope,

¹³ Is this not of the LORD of the hosts? Therefore the peoples shall labour for the fire, and the Gentiles shall weary themselves in vain.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

¹ ¶ Now the serpent was more astute than all the animals of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Has God indeed said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? ² And the woman answered unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; ³ but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, Ye shall not eat of it; neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. ⁴ Then the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: ⁵ For God knows that in the day ye eat of it then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. ⁶ ¶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was desirable to the eyes, and a tree of covetousness to understand, she took of its fruit and ate and gave also unto her husband with her; and he ate. ⁷ And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves girdles. ⁸ And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. ⁹ ¶ And the LORD God called unto the man and said unto him, Where art thou? ¹⁰ And he replied, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself. ¹¹ ¶ And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee not to eat? ¹² And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate. ¹³ Then the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I ate.

⁹ ¶ And David said to Saul, Why hearest thou men’s words, saying, Behold, David seeks thy hurt?

²⁰ For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I desire and that I shall be found unto you such as ye desire not, lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, rumours, tumults,

³ If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ and to the doctrine which is according to godliness, ⁴ he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but is driven mad concerning questions and controversy of words, of which comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, ⁵ perverse disputings of men of corrupt understanding, and destitute of the truth, using piety as a source of gain: from such withdraw thyself.

¹⁴ But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, boast not and do not be liars against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which descends from above, but is earthly, natural, diabolical. ¹⁶ For where there is envy and contention, there is confusion and every perverse work.

¹¹ ¶ Saul also sent messengers unto David’s house to watch him and to slay him in the morning. But Michal, David’s wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life tonight, tomorrow thou shalt be dead.

¹⁷ And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so and sent away my enemy that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; if not, I shall kill thee.

⁷ then Saul said unto his slaves that stood about him, Hear now, ye sons of Jemini, will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards and make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds ⁸ that all of you have conspired against me, and there is no one that shows me that my son has made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me or shows unto me that my son has stirred up my slave against me, to lie in wait against me, as at this day? ⁹ Then Doeg, the Edomite, who was set over the slaves of Saul, answered and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob to Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub.

¹⁹ ¶ Then those of Ziph came to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Does not David hide himself with us in strong holds in the woods in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the right hand side of the wilderness? ²⁰ Now, therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of thy soul to come down, and our part shall be to deliver him into the king’s hand. ²¹ And Saul said, Blessed are ye of the LORD, for ye have compassion on me.

¹³ For he was bribed to make me be thus afraid and sin and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

¹⁰ ¶ My son, if sinners entice thee, do not consent. ¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood; let us ambush the innocent without cause. ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol and whole as those that go down into the pit; ¹³ We shall find all kinds of riches, we shall fill our houses with spoil. ¹⁴ Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

¹² to deliver thee from the evil way, from the man that speaks perversion, ¹³ who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, ¹⁴ who rejoice to do evil and delight in wicked perversion, ¹⁵ whose ways are crooked, and they are crooked in their paths;

³¹ Envy thou not the oppressor and choose none of his ways.

¹⁷ Ye, therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things in advance, be on guard lest by the error of the wicked ye be deceived with the others and fall from your own steadfastness.

¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat and make their ears heavy and blind their eyes that they not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their heart, nor convert and there be healing for him.

³ To complete the evil with their hands, the prince demands, and the judge judges for a reward; and the great man speaks the desires of his heart: and they confirm it.

¹⁵ for this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their heart and should be converted, and I should heal them.

⁷ Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask. ⁸ And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John the Baptist’s head in a platter.

²³ And the governor said, Why, what evil has he done? ²⁰ For every one that does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

If I have taken anyone’s ox or if I have taken anyone’s ass or if I have defrauded anyone or if I have oppressed anyone or if I have received a bribe {Heb. ransom} from anyone to blind my eyes, I will restore it you. ⁴ And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us nor oppressed us; neither hast thou taken anything of any man’s hand. ⁵ And he said unto them, The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day that ye have not found anything in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.

¹⁰ ¶ and blessed the LORD before all the congregation; and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. ¹¹ Thine, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the honour, for all things in the heavens and in the earth are thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. ¹² The riches and the glory are before thee, and thou dost reign over all, and in thy hand is power and might and in thy hand the greatness and the strength of all things. ¹³ Now, therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. ¹⁴ But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come of thee and of thine own have we given thee. ¹⁵ For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers; our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is no other hope. ¹⁶ O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee a house for thy holy name comes of thy hand and is all thy own. ¹⁷ I know also, my God, that thou dost try the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things; and now have I seen with joy that thy people, who are present here, have given willingly unto thee. ¹⁸ O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep for ever this purpose in the thoughts of the heart of thy people and prepare their heart unto thee. ¹⁹ Likewise, give unto Solomon, my son, a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for which I have made provision. ²⁰ Then David said to all the congregation, Now bless the LORD your God. And all the congregation blessed the LORD God of their fathers and bowed down and worshipped before the LORD and the king. ²¹ And they sacrificed sacrifices unto the LORD and offered burnt offerings unto the LORD, on the next day, even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel. ²² And they ate and drank before the LORD on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon, the son of David, king the second time and anointed him unto the LORD as ruler and Zadok as priest. ²³ ¶ Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David, his father, and was prospered; and all Israel heard him. ²⁴ And all the princes and the mighty men and all the sons likewise of King David, submitted themselves unto Solomon, the king. ²⁵ And the LORD magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel and bestowed upon him such glory of the kingdom as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

⁶ ¶ And Elihu, the son of Barachel, the Buzite, answered and said, I am younger, and ye are older; therefore, I was afraid, and I feared to declare unto you my opinion. ⁷ I said, Days shall speak, and the multitude of years shall declare wisdom.

¹ ¶ My son, forget not my law, but let thine heart keep my commandments: ² For they shall add length of days and long life and peace unto thee.

⁶ ¶ Children’s children are the crown of old men, and the honour of the children are their fathers.

²⁹ ¶ The glory of young men is their strength, and the beauty of old men is the gray head.

¹³ ¶ Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king who will no longer be admonished.

⁶ And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless.

²⁹ Lord, now let thy slave depart in peace, according to thy word, ³⁰ for mine eyes have seen thy saving health, ³¹ which thou hast prepared before the face of all the peoples: ³² a light to be revealed unto the Gentiles and the glory of thy people Israel. ³³ And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. ³⁴ And Simeon blessed them and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel and for a sign which shall be spoken against ³⁵ (yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. ³⁶ And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser; she was of a great age and had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity, ³⁷ and she was a widow eighty-four years, who departed not from the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers. ³⁸ And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord and spoke of him to all those that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

⁹ yet for the sake of charity I rather beseech thee, being such a one as Paul the aged and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

⁸ The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

²⁹ ¶ He that is slow to wrath is of great intelligence, but he that is short of spirit exalts folly.

¹⁹ ¶ It is better to humble your spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud.

¹¹ ¶ The discretion of a man defers his anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

²⁸ ¶ The man whose spirit has no restraint is like a city that is broken down and without walls.

²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹ ¶ Be ye therefore imitators of God, as dear children

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

²¹ To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame and have sat down with my Father in his throne.

And Kohath begat Amram. ⁵⁹ And the name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed, daughter of Levi, whom her mother bore to Levi in Egypt: and she bore unto Amram Aaron and Moses and Miriam, their sister. ⁶⁰ And unto Aaron was born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ⁶¹ And Nadab and Abihu died when they offered strange fire before the LORD. ⁶² And those that were numbered of them were twenty-three thousand, all males from a month old and upward; for they were not numbered among the sons of Israel because no inheritance was to be given them among the sons of Israel. ⁶³ ¶ These are those that were numbered by Moses and Eleazar, the priest, who numbered the sons of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan of Jericho. ⁶⁴ And among these there was not a man of those whom Moses and Aaron the priest had numbered when they numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, except Caleb, the son of Jephunneh and Joshua, the son of Nun.

¹⁴ In the morning, therefore, ye shall come near according to your tribes, and it shall be that the tribe which the LORD takes shall come according to the families thereof, and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households, and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man.

⁵ And they shall divide it into seven parts; Judah shall abide in their borders towards the Negev, and the house of Joseph shall abide in their borders on the north.

¹⁰ And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD; and there Joshua divided the land unto the sons of Israel according to their portions.

⁴¹ Therefore, Saul said unto the LORD God of Israel, Show who is without blemish. And Saul and Jonathan were taken, but the people went out free. ⁴² And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.

¹ ¶ And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem; but the rest of the people cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city and nine parts to dwell in the other cities.

¹⁸ ¶ The lot causes contentions to cease and decides between the mighty.

²⁶ ¶ Many seek the ruler’s favour, but each man’s judgment comes from the LORD.

⁷ And each one said to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

²⁶ And they gave forth their lots, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
