¹ ¶ My son, if thou wilt receive my words and hide my commandments within thee ² so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom and apply thine heart to intelligence, ³ yea, if thou criest for understanding and givest thy voice unto intelligence, ⁴ if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasures, ⁵ then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and intelligence. ⁷ He keeps the person of the upright; he is a buckler to those that walk perfectly, ⁸ keeping the paths of judgment and the way of his merciful ones. ⁹ Then shalt thou understand righteousness and judgment and equity, yea, every good path. ¹⁰ ¶ When wisdom enters into thine heart and knowledge is sweet unto thy soul, ¹¹ discretion shall preserve thee, intelligence shall keep thee ¹² to deliver thee from the evil way, from the man that speaks perversion, ¹³ who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, ¹⁴ who rejoice to do evil and delight in wicked perversion, ¹⁵ whose ways are crooked, and they are crooked in their paths; ¹⁶ to deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger who flatters with her words, ¹⁷ who forsakes the prince of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. ¹⁸ Therefore her house inclines unto death, and her paths unto the dead. ¹⁹ None that go unto her return again, neither do they take hold of the paths of life. ²⁰ That thou may walk in the way of good men and keep the paths of the righteous. ²¹ For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. ²² But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

⁶ And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart, ⁷ and thou shalt repeat them diligently unto thy sons and shalt talk of them being in thy house and walking by the way, lying down in bed, and rising up; ⁸ and thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thy eyes; ⁹ and thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house and on thy gates.

¹² Neither have I separated myself from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

⁹ ¶ BETH. With what shall a young man cleanse his way? when he shall keep thy word. ¹⁰ ¶ With my whole heart I have sought thee; O let me not err from thy commandments. ¹¹ ¶ Thy spoken word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee.

³ to receive the chastening of prudence, justice, judgment, and equity;

¹ ¶ My son, forget not my law, but let thine heart keep my commandments:

¹ ¶ Hearken, ye sons, unto the chastening of the father, and pay attention that ye might know understanding.

¹⁰ Hear, O my son, and receive my words, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied.

²⁰ ¶ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my words. ²¹ Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. ²² For they are life unto those that find them and medicine to all their flesh.

²¹ Bind them continually upon thine heart and tie them about thy neck.

¹ ¶ My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

⁴⁴ ¶ Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like unto treasure hid in the field, which when found, a man hides it and, for the joy thereof, goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

¹⁹ But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart.

⁵¹ And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was subject unto them, but his mother kept all these things in her heart.

⁴⁴ Let these words sink down into your ears, for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.

⁴⁷ And if anyone hears my words and believes not, I judge him not, for I came not to judge the world but to save the world. ⁴⁸ He that rejects me and does not receive my words has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

¹⁵ This is a faithful saying and worthy of acceptation by all, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first.

¹² ¶ Cause us to learn this that we might number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

¹¹¹ ¶ I have taken thy testimonies as a heritage for ever; for they are the rejoicing of my heart. ¹¹² I have inclined my heart to perform thy statutes always, even unto the end.

¹ ¶ Whosoever goes astray seeks according to his own lust and shall meddle with every doctrine.

¹⁷ ¶ Bow down thine ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my wisdom. ¹⁸ For it is a delightful thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall be ordered together in thy lips. ¹⁹ That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee. ²⁰ Have I not written unto thee three times in counsels and knowledge, ²¹ that I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth, that thou mightest answer the words of truth to those that send unto thee?

¹² ¶ Apply thine heart unto chastening and thine ears to the words of wisdom.

²⁵ I applied my heart to know and to search and to seek out wisdom and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly and the madness of error;

⁹ ¶ All this I have seen and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: the time in which one man rules over another to his own hurt.

¹⁶ Therefore I applied mine heart to know wisdom and to see the business that is done upon the earth (for also there is he that neither day nor night sees sleep with his eyes).

³ Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an eternal covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

⁹ He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

¹¹ These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all diligence and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

⁹ Give, therefore, thy slave a hearing heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this thy so great a people? ¹⁰ And the speech pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing and hast not asked for thyself long life neither hast asked riches for thyself nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment, ¹² behold, I have done according to thy words: behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

¹² Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding and give thee commandments for Israel, and that thou keep the law of the LORD thy God.

⁴ Daleth Show me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. ⁵ He Cause me to walk in thy truth and teach me: for thou art the God of my saving health; I have waited for thee all the day.

³⁴ Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

⁷³ ¶ JOD. Thy hands have made me and fashioned me; give me understanding, and I shall learn thy commandments.

¹²⁵ I am thy slave; give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies.

¹⁶⁹ ¶ TAU. Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD; give me understanding according to thy word.

⁶ In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

¹⁷ I love those that love me, and those that seek me early shall find me.

¹³ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those that ask him?

¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; ¹⁸ illuminating the eyes of your understanding, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints

⁵ And if any of you lacks wisdom, let them ask of God (who gives abundantly to all, and without reproach), and it shall be given them.

²¹ who long for death, but it comes not; and search for it more than for hid treasures;

¹² But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man never knew its price; neither is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ ¶ The deep saith, It is not in me; and the sea saith, It is not with me. ¹⁵ It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for its price. ¹⁶ It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx or the sapphire. ¹⁷ Gold cannot equal it, nor can diamond; neither shall it be exchanged for vessels of fine gold. ¹⁸ No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls; for wisdom is better than precious stones. ¹⁹ The emerald of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold. ²⁰ ¶ Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding?

¹⁰ More to be desired are they than gold, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

¹⁴ I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies as above all riches.

⁷² ¶ The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

¹²⁷ ¶ Therefore I have loved thy commandments above gold, yea, above fine gold.

¹⁴ for the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver and the fruits thereof more than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than precious stones, and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

¹⁸ Riches and honour are with me, yea, durable riches and righteousness. ¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yea, than precious stones, and my revenue than choice silver.

¹⁶ ¶ How much better is it to acquire wisdom than gold! and to acquire understanding is worth more than silver!

²³ Buy the truth and sell it not, also wisdom and instruction and understanding.

⁸ It is the man who is alone, without a successor, who has neither son nor brother; yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity and sore travail.

¹⁹ ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal; ²⁰ but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupt and where thieves do not break through nor steal; ²¹ for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

²¹ Jesus said unto him, If thou desire to be perfect, go and sell what thou hast and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come and follow me. ²² But when the young man heard that word, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

²⁹ And every one that has forsaken houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for my name’s sake shall receive a hundredfold and shall inherit eternal life.

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward because he had done discreetly; for the sons of this age are in their generation more prudent than the sons of light.

¹⁰ Give me now wisdom and knowledge that I may go out and come in before this people, for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? ¹¹ And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth or glory, nor the life of thy enemies, neither yet hast asked long life, but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou may judge my people, over whom I have placed thee as king, ¹² wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will also give thee riches and wealth and glory such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall any after thee have the like.

²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, that the fear of the Lord, is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

⁷ ¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and chastening.

¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

²⁴ but let him that glories glory in this, that he understands me and knows me, that I am the LORD who does mercy, judgment, and righteousness in the earth: for in these things I delight, said the LORD.

⁷ And I will give them a heart that they might know me, that I am the LORD; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

³⁴ And they shall no longer teach every man his neighbour and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD, for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, said the LORD, for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

⁴⁰ and I will make an eternal covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good, and I will put my fear in their hearts that they shall not depart from me. ⁴¹ And, I will rejoice with them doing them good, and I will plant them in this land with truth, with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

³ And we shall know and follow on in knowing the LORD; his going forth is prepared as the dawn; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

⁷ ¶ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; ⁸ for every one that asks receives, and he that seeks finds, and to him that knocks it shall be opened.

²⁷ All things are delivered unto me of my Father, and no one has known the Son but the Father, neither has anyone known the Father except the Son and he unto whom the Son will reveal him.

²² All things are delivered to me of my Father, and no one knows who the Son is, but the Father, and who the Father is, but the Son and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

⁹ And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. ¹⁰ For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened. ¹¹ If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? ¹² Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? ¹³ If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those that ask him?

³ And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

²⁰ But we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

³ and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and in intelligence and in science and in all manner of workmanship,

⁹ Give, therefore, thy slave a hearing heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this thy so great a people?

¹² behold, I have done according to thy words: behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

²⁹ ¶ And God gave Solomon exceedingly great wisdom and intelligence and magnanimity of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.

⁸ Certainly there is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding.

⁷ ¶ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

⁹⁸ ¶ Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies, for they are eternal unto me.

¹⁰⁴ Through thy precepts I have obtained understanding; therefore I have hated every false way.

²³ For the commandment is fire, and the law is light; and reproofs of chastening are the way of life,

⁵ O ye simple, understand prudence; and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. ⁶ Hear, for I will speak of excellent things, and the opening of my lips shall be right things. ⁷ For my mouth shall speak truth, and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. ⁸ All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing perverse or twisted in them. ⁹ They are all plain to him that understands and right to those that have found wisdom.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

¹³ And all thy sons shall be taught of the LORD; and the peace of thy sons shall be multiplied.

¹⁷ ¶ And unto these four young men, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in all letters and science; furthermore Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

²¹ and it is he that changes the times and the opportunities; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom unto the wise and knowledge unto those that know understanding:

²³ Unto thee, O God of my fathers, do I confess and give thee praise that thou hast given me wisdom and might and now hast shown me what we asked of thee, for thou hast shown us the king’s matter.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every man therefore that has heard from the Father and has learned comes unto me.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield unto us; the LORD will give grace and glory; he will not withhold good from those that walk uprightly.

² My mercy and my fortress; my high tower and my deliverer; my shield and he in whom I trust, who subdues my people under me.

¹⁴ With me is counsel, and existence; I am understanding; strength belongs to me.

⁸ ¶ The wisdom of the sane is to understand his way, but the folly of fools is deceit.

¹⁸ ¶ Whosoever walks in integrity shall be saved, but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall into one of them.

⁵ Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto those that put their trust in him.

¹⁹ For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

²⁴ but unto those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

³⁰ But of him ye are reborn in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption,

⁶ ¶ For we speak perfect wisdom of God, and not the wisdom of this age nor of the princes of this age, that come to nought, ⁷ but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God predestined before the ages unto our glory,

¹⁸ ¶ Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you seems to be wise in this age, let them become a fool that they may be wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He takes the wise in their own craftiness.

³ in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

¹⁵ and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto saving health by the faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, ¹⁷ that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which descends from above, but is earthly, natural, diabolical. ¹⁶ For where there is envy and contention, there is confusion and every perverse work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, modest, benevolent, full of mercy and of good fruits, not judgmental, unfeigned.

³ Yea, he loved the peoples; all his saints are in thy hand; they also united at thy feet; they received thy words.

²⁶ ¶ There is no other like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rides upon the heavens for thy help, in the clouds with his excellency. ²⁷ The habitation of God is eternal, and underneath the everlasting arms; he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee and shall say, Destroy them. ²⁸ Then Israel, the fountain of Jacob, shall dwell in safety alone in a land of grain and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew. ²⁹ Blessed art thou, O Israel, who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help and the sword of thy excellency? Thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee, and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

⁹ He keeps the feet of his saints, and the wicked perish in darkness, for no man shall prevail by their own strength.

⁶ For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

³ He restores my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

²³ Mem The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and he delights in his way. ²⁴ Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

²⁸ For the LORD loves uprightness and does not forsake his merciful ones; they are preserved for ever, but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

³¹ The law of his God is in his heart; therefore none of his steps shall slide.

⁹ It is he who placed our soul into life and did not suffer our feet to slip.

⁵ The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. ⁶ The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. ⁷ The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil; he shall preserve thy soul. ⁸ The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

²⁰ Schin The LORD preserves all those that love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.

²¹ ¶ My son, do not let them depart from thine eyes; keep sound wisdom and discretion, ²² so shall they be life unto thy soul and grace to thy neck. ²³ Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. ²⁴ When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

²⁰ I shall lead in the way of righteousness in the midst of the paths of judgment,

⁹ No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, nor shall any be found there so that the redeemed can walk there:

⁹ that thou may say to the prisoners, Go forth; and unto those that are in darkness, Show yourselves. Upon the ways shall they be fed, and upon all the high places shall be their pastures. ¹⁰ They shall never hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that has mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water he shall feed them.

²⁸ and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone pluck them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

⁵ who are kept in the virtue of God by faith, to attain unto the saving health which is made ready to be manifested in the last time.

²⁴ Now unto him that is powerful to keep you without sin and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

⁸ ¶ Cheth Good and upright is the LORD: therefore he will teach sinners in the way. ⁹ Teth He will cause the humble to pass through the judgment, and the meek he will teach his way.

⁸ I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will fix mine eyes upon thee.

⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers, for thy testimonies have been my meditation.

¹⁰⁵ ¶ NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my way.

⁸ Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning, for in thee do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul unto thee. ⁹ Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies; I flee unto thee. ¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God. Let thy good Spirit lead me into the land of uprightness.

² to know wisdom and chastening; to understand prudent words; ³ to receive the chastening of prudence, justice, judgment, and equity; ⁴ to give prudence to the simple, and to the young men knowledge and council. ⁵ If the wise will hear them, doctrine shall increase, and the man of understanding shall acquire wise counsel: ⁶ To understand a parable and the interpretation; the words of the wise and their enigmas.

⁸ And a highway shall be there and a way, and it shall be called The Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; and for those in it there shall be someone to go with them, in such a manner that the foolish shall not err therein.

¹⁷ Thus has the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel said: I am the LORD thy God who teaches thee to profit, who causes thee to walk by the way in which thou dost walk.

¹⁶ Thus hath the LORD said, Stand ye in the ways and see and ask for the old paths, where the good way is and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

¹³ Enter ye in at the narrow gate, for the way that leads to destruction is wide and spacious, and those who follow it are many; ¹⁴ because narrow is the gate, and confined is the way which leads unto life, and there are few that find it.

⁶ Jesus said unto him, I AM the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes unto the Father, but by me.

³⁴ My meditation of him shall be sweet; I will be glad in the LORD.

⁹⁷ ¶ MEM. O how I love thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

¹⁰³ ¶ How sweet have been thy spoken words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

¹¹¹ ¶ I have taken thy testimonies as a heritage for ever; for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

¹⁶² ¶ I rejoice at thy spoken word, as one that finds great spoil.

³³ ¶ Wisdom shall rest in the heart of him that is sane and is made known in the midst of the fools.

¹⁶ Thy words were found, and I ate them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: for thy name was called upon me, O LORD God of the hosts.

¹⁶ Let the word of the Christ dwell in you in abundance in all wisdom, teaching you and exhorting you one to another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with grace singing in your hearts unto the Lord.

²¹ Tau Integrity and uprightness shall preserve me, for I have waited for thee.

⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee.

²² When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. ²³ For the commandment is fire, and the law is light; and reproofs of chastening are the way of life, ²⁴ to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

¹⁵ now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no one remembered that same poor man. ¹⁶ Then I said, Wisdom is better than strength: even though the poor man’s knowledge is despised, and his words are not heard. ¹⁷ The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that rules among fools. ¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

¹⁰ If the iron is blunt, and he does not whet the edge, then he must put forth more strength, but the advantages of wisdom excel.

¹⁵ See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

⁴ Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have observed the ways of the violent. ⁵ Sustain my steps in thy ways that my footsteps not slip.

⁴ I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with hypocrites. ⁵ I have hated the congregation of evil doers and will not sit with the wicked.

⁴ A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know a wicked person.

⁴ Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to do works with ungodliness with the men that work iniquity, and let me not eat of their dainties.

¹⁰ ¶ My son, if sinners entice thee, do not consent. ¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood; let us ambush the innocent without cause. ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol and whole as those that go down into the pit; ¹³ We shall find all kinds of riches, we shall fill our houses with spoil. ¹⁴ Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: ¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: ¹⁶ For their feet shall run to evil and make haste to shed blood. ¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. ¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own souls. ¹⁹ So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain which takes away the life of those who possess it.

³² For the perverse is an abomination to the LORD; but his secret is with the righteous.

¹⁴ ¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. ¹⁵ Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. ¹⁶ For they do not sleep, unless they have done evil; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause someone to fall. ¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride, arrogancy, the evil way, and the perverse mouth, do I hate.

⁶ Forsake that which is foolish and live and go in the way of understanding.

²⁰ ¶ He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.

²⁸ The perverse man sows strife, and the tale bearer separates princes. ²⁹ ¶ The evil man flatters his neighbour and leads him into the way that is not good. ³⁰ He shuts his eyes to devise perverse things; moving his lips he brings evil to pass.

³ For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips pronounce lies; your tongue speaks evil. ⁴ No one calls for righteousness, nor do any judge by the truth; they trust in vanity, and speak vanities; they conceive trouble and bring forth iniquity. ⁵ They hatch cockatrice’ eggs and weave the spider’s web; whosoever shall eat of their eggs shall die, and if they should squeeze them, a viper shall come out.

³⁰ Also from among your own selves, men shall arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after themselves.

³³ Be not deceived: evil companions corrupt good character.

¹⁷ Therefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you

¹³ ¶ They are among those that rebel against the light; they have never known its ways nor abided in its paths. ¹⁴ The murderer rises with the light, kills the poor and the needy, and in the night is as a thief. ¹⁵ The eye of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me; and disguises his face. ¹⁶ In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime; they do not know the light.

³ They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is no one that does good, no, not one.

³ The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit; he has left off to be wise and to do good.

⁵ They do not know, neither do they understand; they walk in darkness; they move all the foundations of the earth.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness; they do not know in what they stumble.

¹⁶ ¶ The man that wanders out of the way of wisdom shall end up in the congregation of the dead.

²⁶ When a righteous man leaves his righteousness, and commits iniquity, he shall die in it; for his iniquity that he has done he shall die.

¹² And thou, son of man, say unto the sons of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him the day that he rebels; and the wickedness of the wicked shall not impede him in the day that he turns from his wickedness; and the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness in the day that he sins. ¹³ When I am saying to the righteous, Thou shalt shall surely live and he trusting in his own righteousness commits iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he has committed, he shall die for it.

⁶ and those that have turned back from following the LORD and those that did not seek the LORD, nor enquired about him.

⁴³ When the unclean spirit is gone out of the man, it walks through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. ⁴⁴ Then it says, I will return into my house from which I came out; and when it is come, it finds it empty, swept, and garnished. ⁴⁵ Then it goes and takes with itself seven other spirits worse than itself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it also be unto this wicked generation.

⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

⁹ When the butler had tasted the water that was made wine and knew not where it was from (but the servants who drew the water knew), the butler called the bridegroom ¹⁰ and said unto him, Every man at the beginning sets forth the good wine, and when they are well satisfied, then that which is worse; but thou hast kept the good wine until now. ¹¹ This beginning of the signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee and manifested forth his glory, and his disciples believed on him.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness more than the light because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

³⁵ Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the Light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you; for he that walks in darkness does not know where he goes.

²¹ because having known God, they did not glorify him as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

⁵ Ye are all the sons of light, and the sons of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness. ⁶ ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For those that sleep in the night, and those that are drunken are drunken in the night.

¹⁰ for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

⁴ For it is impossible that those who once received the light and tasted of that heavenly gift and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit ⁵ and likewise have tasted the good word of God and the virtue of the age to come, ⁶ and have backslidden, be renewed again by repentance, crucifying again for themselves the Son of God and putting him to an open shame.

²⁰ Certainly, if having separated themselves from the contaminations of the world, by the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they again entangle themselves therein and are overcome, their latter end is made worse for them than the beginnings. ²¹ For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them. ²² But it has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog returns unto his own vomit, and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us; but this happened that it might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

²³ ¶ To make an abomination is as sport to the fool, but wisdom is recreation to the man of intelligence.

¹⁵ What part has my beloved in my house, seeing she has wrought lewdness with many? The holy flesh shall pass from upon thee, for in thy evil thou didst glory.

³ They make the king glad with their wickedness and the princes with their lies.

¹⁵ He shall take up all of them with his hook; he shall catch them in his net and gather them in his drag: therefore, he shall rejoice and be glad.

¹¹ In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for any of thy doings, in which thou hast rebelled against me, for then I will take away out of the midst of thee those that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no longer be haughty because of the mountain of my holiness.

⁴ And he went and spoke with the princes of the priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them. ⁵ And they were glad and covenanted to give him money.

³² Who having understood the righteousness of God, they did not understand that those who do such things are worthy of death, not only those that do the same, but even those who encourage those that do them.

⁶ rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;

⁵ They have corrupted themselves, their spot is that they are not his sons; they are a perverse and crooked generation.

⁵ As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall take them away with the workers of iniquity; and peace shall be upon Israel.

⁸ ¶ The way of the perverse man is crooked and strange, but as for the pure, his work is right.

⁸ ¶ Now go, write this vision before them on a tablet and note it in a book that it may remain unto the last day, for ever, unto all ages. ⁹ That this is a rebellious people, lying sons, sons that did not desire to hear the law of the LORD: ¹⁰ Who say to those that see, See not; and to the prophets, Do not prophesy right things unto us, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: ¹¹ Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to leave our presence. ¹² Therefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in violence and perversity and build upon this: ¹³ Therefore this sin shall be to you as an open wall ready to fall and as a breach in a high defence, whose breaking comes suddenly at an instant.

⁸ The way of peace they did not know; nor is there anything straight about their ways; they have wilfully made themselves crooked paths; whosoever goes therein shall not know peace.

¹⁵ that ye may be blameless and innocent, children of God without rebuke in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world,

³ And his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. ⁴ So Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him; and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. ⁵ And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house and in the field. ⁶ And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and with him knew of nothing more than of the bread which he ate. And Joseph was handsome and well favoured. ⁷ ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. ⁸ But he refused and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand; ⁹ there is none greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back anything from me but thee because thou art his wife; how then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God? ¹⁰ And it came to pass as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not hearken unto her, to lie by her or to be with her. ¹¹ And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business, and none of those of the house were there within. ¹² And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me; and he left his garment in her hand and fled and got outside.

²⁶ Did not Solomon, king of Israel, sin by these things? Yet among many nations there was no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel; nevertheless, strange women caused even him to offend. ²⁷ Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange women?

³ For the lips of the strange woman drop as a honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil, ⁴ But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. ⁵ Her feet go down to death, her steps uphold Sheol, ⁶ lest thou should ponder the path of life, her ways are unstable; thou shalt not know them. ⁷ Hear me now therefore, O ye sons, and do not depart from the words of my mouth. ⁸ Remove thy way far from her, and do not come near the door of her house, ⁹ lest thou give thine honour unto others and thy years unto the cruel, ¹⁰ lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, and thy labours be in the house of a stranger, ¹¹ and thou mourn at the last when thy flesh and thy body are consumed ¹² and say, How have I hated chastening and my heart despised reproof ¹³ and have not obeyed the voice of those who chastened me, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me! ¹⁴ I have been in almost every kind of evil, in the midst of society and of the congregation. ¹⁵ ¶ Drink waters out of thine own cistern and running waters out of thine own well. ¹⁶ Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of thy waters in the streets. ¹⁷ Let them be only thine own and not for strangers with thee. ¹⁸ Thy fountain shall be blessed; and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. ¹⁹ Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love, without eyes for anyone else. ²⁰ And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a woman belonging to someone else, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

²⁴ to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

⁵ That they may keep thee from the woman belonging to someone else, from the stranger who flatters with her words. ⁶ ¶ For at the window of my house I looked through my casement ⁷ and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, ⁸ passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, ⁹ in the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night; ¹⁰ and, behold, a woman met him with the attire of a harlot, and subtil of heart. ¹¹ (She is loud and stubborn; her feet do not abide in her house: ¹² Now without, now in the streets, she lies in wait at every corner.) ¹³ So she caught him and kissed him and with an impudent face said unto him, ¹⁴ I had promised sacrifices of peace; today I have payed my vows. ¹⁵ Therefore I came forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee. ¹⁶ I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. ¹⁷ I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. ¹⁸ Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us solace ourselves with loves. ¹⁹ For the husband is not at home; he is gone a long journey: ²⁰ He has taken a bag of money with him and will come home at the appointed feast day. ²¹ With her much fair speech she caused him to yield; with the flattering of her lips she persuaded him. ²² He went after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, ²³ until the arrow pierces through his liver. He is as a bird struggling in the snare and not knowing that it is against his own life.

¹⁴ ¶ The mouth of strange women is a deep pit; he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.

²⁷ For a whore is a deep ditch and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

⁵ ¶ The man that flatters his neighbour spreads a net for his feet.

²⁶ and I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands are bonds; whosoever pleases God shall escape from her, but the sinner shall be held prisoner in her.

¹⁸ Thy fountain shall be blessed; and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

⁴ Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?

⁸ And I passed by thee and looked upon thee; behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my mantle over thee and covered thy shame; and I gave thee an oath and entered into a covenant with thee, said the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine;

⁵⁹ For thus hath the Lord GOD said: Will I deal with thee even as thou hast done, despising the oath to invalidate the covenant? ⁶⁰ ¶ Nevertheless I will remember my covenant that I made with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will confirm unto thee an everlasting covenant.

¹⁴ Yet ye say, Why? Because the LORD has been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously; yet she is thy companion and the wife of thy covenant. ¹⁵ And did he not make one, having in himself abundance of the Spirit? And why one? That he might seek offspring of God. Therefore take heed to your spirit and let no one deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. ¹⁶ He that rejects her, sending her away, said the LORD God of Israel, covers the violence with his garment, said the LORD of the hosts; therefore take heed in your spirit, and do not be treacherous.

²⁶ For by means of a whorish woman a man is reduced to a piece of bread, and the woman will hunt the precious soul of the man. ²⁷ Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? ²⁸ Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? ²⁹ So is he that goes in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever touches her shall not be innocent. ³⁰ Men do not take a thief lightly, even if he steals to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; ³¹ and once he is taken, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house. ³² But whosoever commits adultery with a woman has a fault in his heart; he that does it corrupts his own soul. ³³ A wound and dishonour shall he get, and his reproach shall never be wiped away. ³⁴ For the jealous rage of a man will not spare in the day of vengeance. ³⁵ He will not regard any ransom; neither will he want to forgive, though thou givest many bribes.

He is as a bird struggling in the snare and not knowing that it is against his own life. ²⁴ ¶ Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye sons, and attend to the words of my mouth. ²⁵ Let not thine heart decline to her ways; do not go astray in her paths. ²⁶ For she has caused many to fall down dead; yea, all the strong men have been slain by her. ²⁷ Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

¹⁸ But he does not know that the dead are there and that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

⁹ ¶ Know ye not that the unjust shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor effeminate nor homosexuals ¹⁰ nor thieves nor covetous nor drunkards nor revilers nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ And such were some of you, but now ye are washed, but now ye are sanctified, but now ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and in the Spirit of our God.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; which I denounce, as I have also told you in time past that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

⁵ For this ye know, that no fornicator nor unclean person nor covetous man, who is also an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

⁸ But the fearful and unbelieving and the abominable and murderers and fornicators and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

¹⁵ But outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the fornicators and the murderers and the idolaters and whosoever loves and makes a lie.

¹² So I gave them up unto the hardness of their heart, and they walked in their own counsels.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the light of the morning star, that shines more and more until the day is perfect.

²³ Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Likewise ye also cannot do good, being taught to do evil.

¹⁴ I will not visit upon your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor upon your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery: for they offer with whores, and they sacrifice with cult prostitutes; therefore the people without understanding shall fall.

²⁴ And again I say unto you, It is easier to put a cable through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. ²⁵ But his disciples hearing these things were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? ²⁶ But Jesus beheld them and said unto them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

¹⁸ that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us,

⁶³ ¶ I am a companion of all those that fear thee and of those that keep thy precepts.

¹¹⁵ ¶ Depart from me, ye evildoers; for I will keep the commandments of my God.

⁷ ¶ Tell me, O thou whom my soul loves, where thou dost feed, where thou dost make thy flock to rest at noon; for why did I have to be as a wanderer after the flocks of thy companions? ⁸ If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go forth, following the footprints of the flock and feed thy little female goats beside the booths of the shepherds.

¹² that ye not become slothful, but imitators of those who by faith and patience inherit the promises.

¹¹ Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that does good is of God, but he that does evil has not seen God.

¹ ¶ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and departed from evil.

¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep and six thousand camels and a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand she asses.

³ Beth Wait in the LORD and do good; live in the land and uphold the truth.

⁹ For evildoers shall be cut off; but those that wait for the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

¹¹ But the meek shall inherit the earth and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

²² For such as are blessed of him shall inherit the earth, and those that are cursed of him shall be cut off.

²⁹ Ain The righteous shall inherit the earth and live upon it for ever.

⁴ Zain A light has shined in the darkness upon the upright: Cheth Gracious and merciful and righteous. ⁵ Teth A good man has mercy and lends; Jod He will govern his affairs with good judgment. ⁶ ¶ Caph Surely he shall not be moved for ever; Lamed the righteous shall be in eternal remembrance.

³⁰ The righteous eternally shall never be removed, but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

²² And the LORD thy God will put out those Gentiles before thee little by little; thou may not consume them at once lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.

⁶³ And it shall come to pass that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to cause you to perish and to destroy you; and ye shall be plucked from off the land into which thou dost enter in to inherit it. ⁶⁴ And the LORD shall scatter thee among all the peoples from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.

¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above his branch shall be cut off. ¹⁷ His memory shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the streets. ¹⁸ He shall be driven from the light into the darkness and chased out of the world.

³⁰ That the wicked is reserved for the day of destruction, they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

²⁰ Caph But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD as the fattest of rams shall be consumed; as smoke they shall fade away.

³⁷ Schin Mark the perfect, and behold the upright, for the end of each one of them is peace. ³⁸ But the rebels were destroyed all together; the wicked were cut off in the end.

⁵ God shall likewise cast thee down for ever; he shall cut thee off and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

³⁵ Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Halelu- JAH (Praise ye the LORD).

²² His own iniquities shall take hold of the wicked, and he shall be imprisoned with the cords of his sins. ²³ He shall die because he did not submit to chastening; and due to the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

¹⁰ Say unto the righteous that it shall be well with him, for they shall eat of the fruit of their doings. ¹¹ Woe unto the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for according to the work of his hands it shall be done unto him.
