¹ ¶ By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but I did not find him. ² I will rise now and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but I did not find him. ³ The watchmen that go about the city found me, to whom I said, Have ye seen him whom my soul loves? ⁴ It was but a little that I passed from them that I found him whom my soul loves: I held him and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house and into the chamber of her that brought me into the light. ⁵ I charge you, O ye virgins of Jerusalem, by the roes and by the hinds of the field, that ye not awake nor stir up love, until he pleases. ⁶ ¶ Who is she that rises out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense and with all the aromatic powders? ⁷ ¶ Behold it is the bed of Solomon; sixty valiant men are about it of the valiant of Israel. ⁸ They all hold swords, being expert in war; each one has his sword upon his thigh because of the fears of the night. ⁹ King Solomon made himself a palanquin of the wood of Lebanon. ¹⁰ He made its pillars of silver, the bottom of it of gold, the covering of it of purple, its interior being paved with love, for the virgins of Jerusalem. ¹¹ Go forth, O ye virgins of Zion, and behold King Solomon with the crown with which his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.

²⁶ And he said, Let me go, for the day breaks. And he said, I will not let thee go except thou bless me.

²¹ And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them in the way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light that they might walk by day and by night. ²² He never took away the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

³⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take unto thee aromas, stacte and onycha and aromatic galbanum and pure frankincense, of each in equal weight.

² And thou shalt remember all the way by which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness to afflict thee and to prove thee to know what was in thine heart, whether thou would keep his commandments, or not.

¹⁶ And he will take your menslaves and your maidslaves and your good young men and your asses and do his work with them.

⁵ shall not my house be so with God, although all my saving health and my desire shall not be produced yet? For he has made an everlasting covenant with me, ordered in all things, and it shall be kept;

²² But of the sons of Israel, Solomon did not impose service, but they were men of war, or his slaves or his princes or his captains or rulers of his chariots or his horsemen.

²⁷ And King Rehoboam made in their stead brasen shields and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, who kept the door of the king’s house.

¹⁷ And Elisha prayed and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw; and, behold, the mountain was full of horsemen and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

²¹ So we laboured in the work, and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning until the stars appeared. ²² Likewise at the same time said I unto the people, Let each one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that by night they may be a guard to us, and labour by day.

⁸ ¶ Behold, I shall go to the east and not find him; and to the west, but I cannot perceive him; ⁹ if he is working to the north, I shall not see him; to the south, he hides himself, that I shall not see him.

⁴ Stand in awe, and sin not; meditate in your heart upon your bed, and desist. Selah.

⁶ I am weary with my groaning; all the night I flood my bed; I water my couch with my tears.

¹⁴ that I may show forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy saving health.

³ Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most valiant, with thy glory and thy majesty.

¹¹ Let Mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad because of thy judgments.

⁶ When I remember thee upon my bed and meditate on thee in the night watches. ⁷ ¶ Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. ⁸ My soul has followed hard after thee; thy right hand has upheld me.

² In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; my sore bled in the night and ceased not; my soul refused to be comforted. ³ I remembered God and cried out; I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah. ⁴ Thou didst hold my eyelids open; I am broken and did not speak.

⁷ Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? ⁸ Is his mercy gone for ever? does his word fail from generation to generation? ⁹ Has God forgotten to have mercy? has he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah. ¹⁰ And I said, This is my infirmity, but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.

³ Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.

⁵ Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flies by day,

¹ A Song of degrees. ¶ Out of the depths I cry unto thee, O LORD. ² Lord, hear my voice; let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

⁵ The merciful shall be joyful with glory; they shall sing aloud upon their beds. ⁶ ¶ The high praises of God shall be in their mouth and a two-edged sword in their hand, ⁷ to execute vengeance upon the Gentiles and punishments upon the peoples, ⁸ to imprison their kings with fetters and their nobles with chains of iron, ⁹ to execute upon them the judgment written: this shall be glory for all his merciful ones. ²⁰ ¶ Wisdom cries without; she utters her voice in the streets: ²¹ She cries in the chief place of concourse, in the entrance to the gates of the city she utters her words, saying,

¹³ Take fast hold of chastening; do not let go; keep this; for it is thy life.

² She stands in the top of high places, by the way at the crossroads of the paths. ³ She cries at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

¹⁷ I love those that love me, and those that seek me early shall find me.

³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, keeping vigil at my gates, waiting at the threshold of my doors.

³ Because of the savour of thy good ointments (ointment poured forth is thy name), therefore have the virgins loved thee.

⁵ I am dark, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, more desirable as the booths of Kedar, as the tents of Solomon.

⁷ ¶ Tell me, O thou whom my soul loves, where thou dost feed, where thou dost make thy flock to rest at noon; for why did I have to be as a wanderer after the flocks of thy companions?

¹³ A bundle of myrrh is my wellbeloved unto me that rests between my breasts.

¹⁶ Behold, thou art fair, O my beloved, and pleasant; also our bed has flowers.

¹² A closed garden is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed. ¹³ Thy newly budded plants are a paradise of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, {Heb. ransom}, with spikenard, ¹⁴ spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:

⁵ I rose up to open to my beloved, and my hands dripped with myrrh, and my fingers with sweet smelling myrrh, upon the handles of the lock. ⁶ I opened to my beloved, but my beloved had withdrawn himself and was gone; my soul went after his speech; I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer. ⁷ The watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my outer cloak from me. ⁸ I charge you, O virgins of Jerusalem, if ye should find my beloved that ye cause him to know how sick I am with love.

¹³ His cheeks are as a bed of aromatic spices, as fragrant flowers; his lips like lilies, dripping sweet smelling myrrh that transcends.

⁵ Thine head upon thee is like scarlet, and the hair of thine head like the purple of the king hung in the galleries.

¹¹ Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the field; let us lodge in the villages.

² I would lead thee and bring thee into my mother’s house, that thou would instruct me; I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

⁴ I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye not awake nor stir up love until he pleases. ⁵ ¶ Who is she that comes up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I woke thee up under the apple tree; there thy mother had birth pains; there she had pains that brought thee into the light.

¹⁶ ¶ Moreover the LORD saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and swaggering as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet: ¹⁷ Therefore the Lord will make bare the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the LORD will uncover that which they are ashamed of.

⁴ When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning.

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government is placed upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called The Wonderful One, The Counsellor, The God, The Mighty One, The Eternal Father, The Prince of Peace.

⁶ For thus has the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman who shall declare what he sees. ⁷ And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; then he looked with more diligence; ⁸ and he cried, A lion upon the watchman. My lord, I stand continually all the day and all night long upon my watchtower.

¹¹ ¶ The burden of Dumah. He calls to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of this night? Watchman, what of this night? ¹² The watchman said, The morning comes and then the night; if ye will enquire, enquire ye; return, and come.

⁹ With my soul I desire thee in the night; yea, even as long as the spirit is within me I will seek thee early: for as long as thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

³ I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest the enemy visit it, I will keep it night and day.

¹⁹ Behold, I will do a new thing; it shall come to light quickly; shall ye not know it? I will again make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

¹⁹ I have not spoken in secret in a dark place of the earth. Not without substance did I say unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me; I am the LORD who speaks righteousness, who declares things that are right.

¹⁴ But Zion said, The LORD has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me. ¹⁵ Can a woman forget her sucking child that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Even though they may forget, I will not forget thee. ¹⁶ Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me. ¹⁷ Thy builders shall come in haste; thy destroyers and those that made thee waste shall go forth of thee. ¹⁸ ¶ Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely clothe thyself with them all, as with a garment of honour and shalt be girded by them as a bride.

¹¹ He shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied. And by his knowledge shall my righteous slave justify many, for he shall bear their iniquities.

¹ ¶ Rejoice, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud with joy, thou that didst not travail with child: for more shall be the sons of the desolate than the sons of the married wife, said the LORD. ² Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; ³ for thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left, and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.

⁶ ¶ Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near:

¹⁰ His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant; they are all dumb dogs; they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, they love to slumber.

⁵ For as a young man marries a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee; and as the bridegroom rejoices with the bride, so shall thy God rejoice with thee. ⁶ ¶ I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night; ye that make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent

⁷ And there is none that calls upon thy name, that wakes himself up to take hold of thee; therefore, thou hast hid thy face from us and hast allowed us to wither in the power of our iniquities.

² Go and cry out in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD: I remember thee, the mercy of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou didst go after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

¹ ¶ Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem and see now and find out and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that execute judgment, that seek the truth; and I will pardon the city.

¹³ And ye shall seek me, and find me, for ye shall seek me with all your heart.

² Thus hath the LORD said, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness as I went to cause Israel to find rest.

⁴¹ And, I will rejoice with them doing them good, and I will plant them in this land with truth, with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

²⁵ Teth The LORD is good unto those that wait in him, to the soul that seeks him.

¹⁷ Son of man, I have placed thee as a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth and give them warning from me.

² Son of man, speak to the sons of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring a sword upon the land and the people of the land take a man from within their borders and set him up as a watchman; ³ and he should see the sword coming upon the land, if he should blow the shofar, and warn the people, ⁴ then whoever hears the sound of the shofar and does not take warning; and the coming of the sword should take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. ⁵ He heard the sound of the shofar and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he that takes warning shall deliver his soul. ⁶ But if the watchman should see the sword coming and not blow the shofar and the people not be warned, if the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away because of his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand. ⁷ So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth and warn them from me. ⁸ When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die for his sin; but I will require his blood at thine hand. ⁹ Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, if he does not turn from his way, he shall die for his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

¹⁹ And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness and in judgment and in mercy. ²⁰ I will even betroth thee unto me in faith: and thou shalt know the LORD.

³ He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and with his strength he overcame the angel; ⁴ yea, he dominated the angel and prevailed; he wept and made supplication unto him; he found him in Bethel, and there he spoke with us;

²⁹ and even upon the slaves and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. ³⁰ And I will show wonders in the heaven and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. ³¹ The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and the terrible day of the LORD comes.

⁸ ¶ And thou, O tower of the flock, the stronghold of the daughter of Zion shall come unto thee; and the dominion shall come first, the kingdom, to the daughter of Jerusalem.

¹⁷ The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save; he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will joy over thee with singing.

¹¹ And entering into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother; and falling down, they worshipped him; and opening their treasures, they offered him gifts: gold and frankincense and myrrh.

⁷ ¶ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you;

⁴² The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation and shall condemn it, for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

⁴⁰ And he came unto the disciples and found them asleep and said unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? ⁴¹ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

⁹ And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, Receive joy. And they came and held him by the feet and worshipped him.

²⁴ Strive to enter in at the narrow gate; for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in and shall not be able.

²¹ So that slave came and showed his lord these things. Then the husband of the house, being angry, said to his slave, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the halt and the blind. ²² And the slave said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. ²³ And the lord said unto the slave, Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in that my house may be filled.

⁶ And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost. ⁷ I say unto you that likewise there shall be more joy in heaven over one sinner that repents than over ninety-nine just persons, who need no repentance.

²³ and bring here the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; ²⁴ for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. And they began to be merry.

³² It was necessary that we should make merry and be glad, for this thy brother was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.

⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

²⁹ He that has the bride is the bridegroom, but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice; this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

¹¹ These things I have spoken unto you that my joy may abide in you and that your joy might be fulfilled.

¹⁵ Jesus said unto her, Woman, why dost thou weep? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, said unto him, Lord, if thou didst carry him off, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. ¹⁶ Jesus said unto her, Mary! Turning herself around, she said unto him, Rabboni, which is to say, Master. ¹⁷ Jesus said unto her, Touch me not, for I have not yet ascended to my Father; but go to my brethren and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father and your Father, and to my God and your God.

¹⁷ He said unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus said unto him, Feed my sheep.

¹⁸ and for certain on my slaves and on my handmaids I will pour out in those days of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy; ¹⁹ and I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath: blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke; ²⁰ the sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood before that great and notable day of the Lord shall come; ²¹ and it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

⁸ But God increased the price of his charity toward us in that while we were yet sinners the Christ died for us.

¹¹ ¶ And this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awaken ourselves out of sleep, for now is our saving health nearer than when we believed.

³⁴ Watch diligently, and sin not; for some do not know God: I speak this to your shame.

¹⁴ Now thanks be unto God, who always causes us to triumph in the Christ and makes manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. ¹⁵ For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in those that are saved and in those that perish; ¹⁶ to the one we are the savour of death unto death and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

²⁶ But the Jerusalem of above is free, which is the mother of us all.

¹⁸ may be able to well comprehend with all saints what is the breadth and length and depth and height ¹⁹ and to know the charity of the Christ, which passes all knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

¹⁴ Therefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest and arise from the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.

¹⁶ above all, taking the shield of faith, with which ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. ¹⁷ And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; ¹⁸ praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching in this with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints

⁹ Therefore, God also has highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name, ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth, ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is Lord in the glory of God the Father.

¹⁸ But I have all and abound; I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.

¹⁸ And he is the head of the body, the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he might have the preeminence.

¹ ¶ If ye then are risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where the Christ sits at the right hand of God. ² Set your sight on things above, not on things on the earth.

⁶ ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For those that sleep in the night, and those that are drunken are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet, the hope of saving health.

¹⁵ But if I tarry long, that thou may know how it is expedient to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of the living God, the pillar and base of the truth. ¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth in service for the love of those who are the heirs of saving health?

⁹ But we see this same Jesus, crowned with glory and honour, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

¹³ Let us go forth, therefore, unto him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.

¹⁷ Listen to your pastors, and do not resist them, for they watch for your souls as those that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief; for that is unprofitable for you.

⁸ whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though at present ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory;

⁵ and from Jesus, the Christ, who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins with his own blood

⁷ Behold, he comes with the clouds, and every eye shall see him and those also who pierced him; and all kindreds of the earth shall wail over him. Even so, Amen.

⁶ And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and sixty days.

¹⁴ And to the woman were given two wings of the great eagle that she might fly from the presence of the serpent into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time and times.

⁷ Let us be glad and rejoice and give glory to him; for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his bride has made herself ready.

¹² And his eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no one has known, but he himself.

⁹ Then he said unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowslave and with thy brethren the prophets and with those who keep the words of this book: worship God. ¹⁰ And he said unto me, do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book; for the time is at hand.
