¹ Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said, ² Can a man be profitable unto God? surely he that is wise is profitable unto himself. ³ Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain [to him], that thou makest thy ways perfect? ⁴ Is it for thy fear [of him] that he reproveth thee, that he entereth with thee into judgment? ⁵ Is not thy wickedness great? neither is there any end to thine iniquities. ⁶ For thou hast taken pledges of thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man, he dwelt in it. ⁹ Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee, ¹¹ Or darkness, that thou canst not see, and abundance of waters cover thee. ¹² Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are! ¹³ And thou sayest, What doth God know? can he judge through the thick darkness? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven. ¹⁵ Wilt thou keep the old way which wicked men have trodden? ¹⁶ Who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream: ¹⁷ Who said unto God, Depart from us; and, What can the Almighty do for us? ¹⁸ Yet he fired their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me. ¹⁹ The righteous see it, and are glad; and the innocent laugh them to scorn: ²⁰ [Saying], Surely they that did rise up against us are cut off, and the remnant of them the fire hath consumed. ²¹ Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee. ²² Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart. ²³ If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up; if thou put away unrighteousness far from thy tents. ²⁴ And lay thou [thy] treasure in the dust, and [the gold of] Ophir among the stones of the brooks; ²⁵ And the Almighty shall be thy treasure, and precious silver unto thee. ²⁶ For then shalt thou delight thyself in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God. ²⁷ Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee; and thou shalt pay thy vows. ²⁸ Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; and light shall shine upon thy ways. ²⁹ When they cast [thee] down, thou shalt say, [There is] lifting up; and the humble person he shall save. ³⁰ He shall deliver [even] him that is not innocent: yea, he shall be delivered through the cleanness of thine hands.

¹³ to keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

⁶ If thou hast sinned, what doest thou against him? and if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him. ⁷ If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand? ⁸ Thy wickedness [may hurt] a man as thou art; and thy righteousness [may profit] a son of man.

² I have said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: I have no good beyond thee.

¹³ Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. ¹⁴ For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies: and none of the things thou canst desire are to be compared unto her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right had; in her left hand are riches and honour. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

⁷ Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [therefore] get wisdom: yea, with all thou hast gotten get understanding. ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. ⁹ She shall give to thine head a chaplet of grace: a crown of beauty shall she deliver to thee.

¹² If thou art wise, thou art wise for thyself: and if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

¹¹ Wisdom is as good as an inheritance: yea, more excellent is it for them that see the sun. ¹² For wisdom is a defence, even as money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom preserveth the life of him that hath it.

²⁹ And if thy right eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell.

¹⁰ Even so ye also, when ye shall have done all the things that are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which it was our duty to do.

⁷ Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that soweth unto his own flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth unto the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life.

¹⁷ I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness, As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee.

¹⁰ But he knoweth the way that I take; when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. ¹¹ My foot hath held fast to his steps; his way have I kept, and turned not aside. ¹² I have not gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

¹ For the Chief Musician, for Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

³ Yea, they do no unrighteousness; they walk in his ways. ⁴ Thou hast commanded [us] thy precepts, that we should observe them diligently. ⁵ Oh that my ways were established to observe thy statutes! ⁶ Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.

⁵⁹ I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.

¹⁰ He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh no pleasure in the legs of a man. ¹¹ The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

¹ A FALSE balance is an abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.

²⁰ They that are perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD: but such as are perfect in [their] way are his delight.

²² Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

¹⁷ Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? In that ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or where is the God of judgment?

¹⁶ Herein do I also exercise myself to have a conscience void of offence toward God and men alway.

¹ Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹⁸ But I have all things, and abound: I am filled, having received from Epaphroditus the things [that came] from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well-pleasing to God.

¹² Am I a sea, or a sea-monster, that thou settest a watch over me?

¹⁹ If [we speak] of the strength of the mighty, lo, [he is there]! and if of judgment, who will appoint me a time?

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.

³ And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?

²¹ That he would maintain the right of a man with God, and of a son of man with his neighbour!

²⁹ Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath [bringeth] the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.

⁶ Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? Nay; but he would give heed unto me. ⁷ There the upright might reason with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

²³ For he needeth not further to consider a man, that he should go before God in judgment.

¹¹ When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah

⁶ At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.

¹⁶ It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

³ If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? ⁴ But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

² And enter not into judgment with thy servant; for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.

¹⁴ For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil.

¹⁴ The LORD will enter into judgment with the elders of his people, and the princes thereof: It is ye that have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses: ¹⁵ what mean ye that ye crush my people, and grind the face of the poor? saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

⁷ Remember, I pray thee, who [ever] perished, being innocent? or where were the upright cut off? ⁸ According as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow trouble, reap the same. ⁹ By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his anger are they consumed. ¹⁰ The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. ¹¹ The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered abroad.

⁶ And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that iris manifold in effectual working! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

¹⁴ If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not unrighteousness dwell in thy tents;

⁵ For thine iniquity teacheth thy mouth, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty. ⁶ Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; yea, thine own lips testify against thee.

³¹ Let him not trust in vanity, deceiving himself: for vanity shall be his recompence. ³² It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green. ³³ He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive. ³⁴ For the company of the godless shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.

²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.

³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

¹² Who can discern [his] errors? clear thou me from hidden [faults].

¹² For innumerable evils have compassed me about, mine iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head, and my heart hath failed me.

²⁶ If thou at all take thy neighbour’s garment to pledge, thou shalt restore it unto him by that the sun goeth down:

⁶ No man shall take the mill or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh [a man’s] life to pledge.

¹⁰ When thou dost lend thy neighbour any manner of loan, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge. ¹¹ Thou shalt stand without, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring forth the pledge without unto thee. ¹² And if he be a poor man, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge: ¹³ thou shalt surely restore to him the pledge when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his garment, and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God. ¹⁴ Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates: ¹⁵ in his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee. ¹⁶ The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin. ¹⁷ Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of the stranger, [nor] of the fatherless; nor take the widow’s raiment to pledge: ¹⁸ but thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing.

³ They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.

⁹ There are that pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor: ¹⁰ [So that] they go about naked without clothing, and being an-hungred they carry the sheaves;

¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering; ²⁰ If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

⁷ and hath not wronged any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;

¹² hath wronged the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,

¹⁶ neither hath wronged any, hath not taken aught to pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,

⁸ and they lay themselves down beside every altar upon clothes taken in pledge, and in the house of their God they drink the wine of such as have been fined.

⁷ If there be with thee a poor man, one of thy brethren, within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: ⁸ but thou shalt surely open thine hand unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need [in that] which he wanteth. ⁹ Beware that there be not a base thought in thine heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou give him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy work, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt surely open thine hand unto thy brother, to thy needy, and to thy poor, in thy land.

¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

³¹ If the men of my tent said not, Who can find one that hath not been satisfied with his flesh?

⁹ He hath dispersed, he hath given to the needy; his righteousness endureth for ever: his horn shall be exalted with honour.

²⁴ There is that scattereth, and increaseth yet more; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but [it tendeth] only to want. ²⁵ The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

¹⁷ He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD, and his good deed will he pay him again.

⁷ Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

¹⁰ and if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in darkness, and thine obscurity be as the noonday:

⁴² for I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

²⁰ But if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him to drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head.

¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹³ And the two men, sons of Belial, came in and sat before him: and the men of Belial bare witness against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did curse God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead. ¹⁵ And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money: for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

⁸ Will ye respect his person? will ye contend for God?

⁷ When I went forth to the gate unto the city, when I prepared my seat in the street, ⁸ The young men saw me and hid themselves, and the aged rose up and stood; ⁹ The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth; ¹⁰ The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth. ¹¹ For when the ear heard [me], then it blessed me; and when the eye saw [me], it gave witness unto me: ¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, the fatherless also, that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my justice was as a robe and a diadem. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the needy: and the cause of him that I knew not I searched out. ¹⁷ And I brake the jaws of the unrighteous, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

³⁴ Because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and went not out of the door—

⁸ The wicked walk on every side, when vileness is exalted among the sons of men.

³ the captain of fifty, and the honourable man, and the counsellor, and the cunning artificer, and the skilful enchanter.

¹⁵ The ancient and the honourable man, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.

³ Their hands are upon that which is evil to do it diligently; the prince asketh, and the judge [is ready] for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth the mischief of his soul: thus they weave it together.

²¹ And a stranger shalt thou not wrong, neither shalt thou oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. ²² Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. ²³ If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; ²⁴ and my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

¹⁹ Cursed be he that wresteth the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.

²¹ He devoureth the barren that beareth not; and doeth not good to the widow.

¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, the fatherless also, that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from [their] desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof; ¹⁸ (Nay, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, and I have been her guide from my mother’s womb;)

²¹ If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate:

¹⁵ Break thou the arm of the wicked; and as for the evil man, seek out his wickedness till thou find none.

¹⁷ For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.

⁶ They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.

¹⁷ learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

²³ Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.

² to turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right of the poor of my people, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!

⁷ In thee have they set light by father and mother; in the midst of thee, have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they wronged the fatherless and the widow.

²² Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.

⁵ And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers; and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger [from his right], and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.

³ and there was a widow in that city; and she came oft unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. ⁴ And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; ⁵ yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest she wear me out by her continual coming.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof my spirit drinketh up: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

²¹ Withdraw thine hand far from me; and let not thy terror make me afraid.

⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon the toils. ⁹ A gin shall take [him] by the heel, [and] a snare shall lay hold on him. ¹⁰ A noose is hid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.

⁶ Know now that God hath subverted me [in my cause], and hath compassed me with his net.

⁶ Upon the wicked he shall rain snares; fire and brimstone and burning wind shall be the portion of their cup.

²⁷ When your fear cometh as a storm, and your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you.

²⁵ Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh: ²⁶ For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

³ When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope at noonday as in the night.

⁶ The light shall be dark in his tent, and his lamp above him shall be put out.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

⁸ He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and hath set darkness in my paths.

³⁴ Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

⁷ Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

¹ For the Chief Musician; set to Shoshannim. [A Psalm] of David. Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. ² I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

⁴ Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul: ⁵ Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

²² and they shall look unto the earth, and behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish; and into thick darkness [they shall be] driven away.

² He hath led me and caused me to walk in darkness and not in light.

⁵⁴ Waters flowed over mine head; I said, I am cut off.

² a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, as the dawn spread upon the mountains; a great people and a strong, there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after them, even to the years of many generations. ³ A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and none hath escaped them.

³ For thou didst cast me into the depth, in the heart of the seas, and the flood was round about me; all thy waves and thy billows passed over me.

¹² but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast forth into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁸ It is high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than Sheol; what canst thou know?

³ When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; ⁴ What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

³ But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he pleased.

¹⁶ The heavens are the heavens of the LORD; but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

² Be not rash with thy month, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God; for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

¹⁵ For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

¹ Thus saith the LORD; The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: what manner of house will ye build unto me? and what place shall be my rest?

¹¹ He saith in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.

⁷ Behold, they belch out with their mouth; swords are in their lips: for who, [say they], doth hear?

⁵ They encourage themselves in an evil purpose; they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?

¹¹ And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the Most High?

⁷ And they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob consider. ⁸ Consider, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise? ⁹ He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?

¹⁵ Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?

¹² Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in his chambers of imagery? for they say, the LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth.

⁹ Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceeding great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of wresting [of judgment]: for they say, The LORD hath forsaken the earth, and the LORD seeth not.

¹² And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles; and I will punish the men that are settled on their lees, that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.

⁹ He closeth in the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.

²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

¹⁴ From the place of his habitation he looketh forth upon all the inhabitants of the earth;

² Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the foundation of his throne.

¹ For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. LORD, thou hast searched me, and known [me]. ² Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

¹¹ If I say, Surely the darkness shall overwhelm me, and the light about me shall be night; ¹² Even the darkness hideth not from thee, but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike [to thee].

²⁴ Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

² But there is nothing covered up, that shall not be revealed: and hid, that shall not be known. ³ Wherefore whatsoever ye have said in the darkness shall be heard in the light; and what ye have spoken in the ear in the inner chambers shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

⁵ And the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

¹¹ And the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. ¹² And God saw the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. ¹³ And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

²⁶ And as it came to pass in the days of Noah, even so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

¹⁷ And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. ¹⁸ And the waters prevailed, and increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. ¹⁹ And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high mountains that were under the whole heaven were covered. ²⁰ Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. ²¹ And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both fowl, and cattle, and beast, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: ²² all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. ²³ And every living thing was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and creeping thing, and fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only was left, and they that were with him in the ark. ²⁴ And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.

¹⁹ The waters wear the stones; the overflowings thereof wash away the dust of the earth: and thou destroyest the hope of man.

³² It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.

²³ But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.

²⁴ I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations.

¹⁷ Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?

²⁶ And every one that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: ²⁷ and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and smote upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall thereof.

³⁷ And as [were] the days of Noah, so shall be the coming of the Son of man. ³⁸ For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ and they knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall be the coming of the Son of man.

¹⁹ in which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison, ²⁰ which aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water:

⁵ and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;

¹⁰ Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.

¹⁴ Yet they said unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

⁶ Many there be that say, Who will shew us [any] good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

¹¹ get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

¹⁴ Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his charge, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

²⁹ And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

³⁴ And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought [him] that he would depart from their borders.

²⁸ And even as they refused to have God in [their] knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

⁷ The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, he also lifteth up.

⁶ The tents of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth [abundantly].

¹⁶ Lo, their prosperity is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

¹ Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the wicked, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

¹⁴ From men, by thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, whose portion is in [this] life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy treasure: they are satisfied with children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

² Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root; they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.

¹⁷ And yet he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.

¹⁶ After these things I will return, And I will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen; And I will build again the ruins thereof, And I will set it up:

²³ If the scourge slay suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.

¹¹ Let mount Zion be glad, let the daughters of Judah rejoice, because of thy judgments.

⁶ The righteous also shall see [it], and fear, and shall laugh at him, [saying],

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

⁸ Zion heard and was glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoiced; because of thy judgments, O LORD.

⁴² The upright shall see it, and be glad; and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

¹⁰ When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye saints, and ye apostles, and ye prophets; for God hath judged your judgment on her.

¹ After these things I heard as it were a great voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, Hallelujah; Salvation, and glory, and power, belong to our God: ² for true and righteous are his judgments; for he hath judged the great harlot, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and he hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. ³ And a second time they say, Hallelujah. And her smoke goeth up for ever and ever.

²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

⁷ Remember, I pray thee, who [ever] perished, being innocent? or where were the upright cut off?

³ Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice? ⁴ If thy children have sinned against him, and he have delivered them into the hand of their transgression:

³⁰ He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.

¹⁸ That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down; according to the substance that he hath gotten, he shall not rejoice. ¹⁹ For he hath oppressed and forsaken the poor; he hath violently taken away an house, and he shall not build it up.

²⁶ All darkness is laid up for his treasures: a fire not blown [by man] shall devour him; it shall consume that which is left in his tent.

²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me. ²⁸ For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where is the tent wherein the wicked dwelt?

¹ Now there were some present at that very season which told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. ² And he answered and said unto them, Think ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they have suffered these things? ³ I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all in like manner perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were offenders above all the men that dwell in Jerusalem? ⁵ I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

²⁹ but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all: ³⁰ after the same manner shall it be in the day that the Son of man is revealed.

⁶ and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, having made them an example unto those that should live ungodly; ⁷ and delivered righteous Lot, sore distressed by the lascivious life of the wicked

⁹ And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.

¹⁰ The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

⁵ Or else let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; [yea], let him make peace with me.

¹⁹ I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace, to him that is far off and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him. ²⁰ But the wicked are like the troubled sea; for it cannot rest, and its waters cast up mire and dirt. ²¹ There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

²⁵ Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art with him in the way; lest haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

³ And this is life eternal, that they should know thee the only true God, and him whom thou didst send, [even] Jesus Christ.

³⁶ The word which he sent unto the children of Israel, preaching good tidings of peace by Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all)—

⁶ Seeing it is God, that said, Light shall shine out of darkness, who shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

²⁰ We are ambassadors therefore on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beseech [you] on behalf of Christ, be ye reconciled to God.

¹⁴ For he is our peace, who made both one, and brake down the middle wall of partition, ¹⁵ having abolished in his flesh the enmity, [even] the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances; that he might create in himself of the twain one new man, [so] making peace; ¹⁶ and might reconcile them both in one body unto God through the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: ¹⁷ and he came and preached peace to you that were far off, and peace to them that were nigh:

⁷ And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

¹ And now, O Israel, hearken unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them; that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, giveth you. ² Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

⁶ And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thine heart: ⁷ and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. ⁸ And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be for frontlets between thine eyes. ⁹ And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thy house, and upon thy gates.

¹² I have not gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

¹¹ Thy word have I laid up in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

¹ My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and lay up my commandments with thee; ² So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; ³ Yea, if thou cry after discernment, and lift up thy voice for understanding; ⁴ If thou seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures; ⁵ Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD giveth wisdom; out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding: ⁷ He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright, [he is] a shield to them that walk in integrity; ⁸ That he may guard the paths of judgment, and preserve the way of his saints. ⁹ Then shalt thou understand righteousness and judgment, and equity, [yea], every good path.

⁴ And he taught me, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words; keep my commandments, and live:

²¹ Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

¹⁶ Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy words were unto me a joy and the rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

³⁵ The good man out of his good treasure bringeth forth good things: and the evil man out of his evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

⁵² And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

¹⁹ But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.

⁵¹ And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth; and he was subject unto them: and his mother kept all [these] sayings in her heart.

¹ Finally then, brethren, we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that, as ye received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, even as ye do walk,—that ye abound more and more. ² For ye know what charge we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

¹³ Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: for thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, There is a devoted thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the devoted thing from among you. ¹⁴ In the morning therefore ye shall be brought near by your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD taketh shall come near by families; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come near by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come near man by man. ¹⁵ And it shall be, that he that is taken with the devoted thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel. ¹⁶ So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel near by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:

⁵ If thou wouldest seek diligently unto God, and make thy supplication to the Almighty; ⁶ If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

¹³ If thou set thine heart aright, and stretch out thine hands toward him; ¹⁴ If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not unrighteousness dwell in thy tents;

¹⁴ Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again; he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.

¹⁵ There shall dwell in his tent that which is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

²² And the LORD shall smite Egypt, smiting and healing; and they shall return unto the LORD, and he shall be entreated of them, and shall heal them.

⁶ Turn ye unto him from whom ye have deeply revolted, O children of Israel.

¹⁵ He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from looking upon evil;

⁶ Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: ⁷ let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

⁴ Again will I build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: again shalt thou be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.

¹ O ISRAEL, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity. ² Take with you words, and return unto the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and accept that which is good: so will we render [as] bullocks [the offering of] our lips.

³ Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Return unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.

³ Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole land: for every one that stealeth shall be purged out on the one side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be purged out on the other side according to it. ⁴ I will cause it to go forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall abide in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

²⁰ but declared both to them of Damascus first, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the country of Judaea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.

⁷ rooted and builded up in him, and stablished in your faith, even as ye were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

¹⁹ Howbeit the firm foundation of God standeth, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his: and, Let every one that nameth the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.

²⁰ But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

²⁹ and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.

²⁸ And they came to Ophir, and fetched from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.

²¹ And all king Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold: none were of silver; it was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon.

⁴⁸ Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber.

⁵ Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, was there before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.

¹⁰ And the servants also of Huram, and the servants of Solomon, which brought gold from Ophir; brought algum trees and precious stones.

²⁷ And the king made silver to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycomore trees that are in the lowland, for abundance.

²⁵ If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

⁹ Kings’ daughters are among thy honourable women: at thy right hand doth stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

¹² I will make a man more rare than fine gold, even a man than the pure gold of Ophir.

¹ After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, [and] thy exceeding great reward.

⁵ The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. ⁶ The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

² The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strong rock, in him will I trust; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and a shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

⁶ And there shall be stability in thy times, abundance of salvation, wisdom and knowledge: the fear of the LORD is his treasure.

¹⁰ Fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

³¹ What then shall we say to these things? If God [is] for us, who [is] against us?

¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and [yet] possessing all things.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren; did not God choose them that are poor as to the world [to be] rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?

¹⁵ Surely then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:

¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty, and call upon God at all times?

⁹ For he hath said, it profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

¹ [A Psalm] of David. Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.

⁴ Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

⁴ Rejoice the soul of thy servant; for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

⁸ Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

³ As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

¹⁴ then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will make thee to ride upon the high places of the earth; and I will feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

²² For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

²⁰ whereinsoever our heart condemn us; because God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness toward God;

²⁶ He prayeth unto God, and he is favourable unto him; so that he seeth his face with joy: and he restoreth unto man his righteousness.

²⁸ So that they caused the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heard the cry of the afflicted.

¹⁴ Offer unto God the sacrifice of thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the Most High: ¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

¹² Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render thank offerings unto thee.

¹³ I will come into thy house with burnt offerings, I will pay thee my vows, ¹⁴ Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in distress.

¹⁷ I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue. ¹⁸ If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear: ¹⁹ But verily God hath heard; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer. ²⁰ Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.

¹⁵ He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honour him.

¹ I LOVE the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications.

¹⁴ I will pay my vows unto the LORD, yea, in the presence of all his people.

⁴ When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou vowest.

⁹ Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking wickedly;

⁹ But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

¹⁴ And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: ¹⁵ and if we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.

³ When his lamp shined upon my head, and by his light I walked through darkness;

⁴ Grant thee thy heart’s desire, and fulfill all thy counsel.

¹⁷ And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

⁴ Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: [he is] gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

¹⁸ But the path of the righteous is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

²¹ and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it; when ye turn to the right hand and when e turn to the left.

³⁷ Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?

² But unto you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and gambol as calves of the stall.

²² And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

¹² Again therefore Jesus spake unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹⁵ For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall both live, and do this or that.

¹⁹ He shall deliver thee in six troubles; yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee. ²⁰ In famine he shall redeem thee from death; and in war from the power of the sword. ²¹ Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue; neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh. ²² At destruction and dearth thou shalt laugh; neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth. ²³ For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee. ²⁴ And thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; and thou shalt visit thy fold, and shalt miss nothing. ²⁵ Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth. ²⁶ Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in its season. ²⁷ Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

² I will be glad and exult in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou Most High. ³ When mine enemies turn back, they stumble and perish at thy presence.

¹⁴ Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. ¹⁵ He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble: I will deliver him, and honour him. ¹⁶ With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

⁹ For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered. ¹⁰ But my horn hast thou exalted like [the horn of] the wild-ox: I am anointed with fresh oil. ¹¹ Mine eye also hath seen [my desire] on mine enemies, mine ears have heard [my desire] of the evil-doers that rise up against me.

⁶ For though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the haughty he knoweth from afar.

²³ A man’s pride shall bring him low: but he that is of a lowly spirit shall obtain honour.

² For all these things hath mine hand made, and so all these things came to be, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my word.

²⁶ thus saith the Lord GOD: Remove the mitre, and take off the crown: this [shall be] no more the same: exalt that which is low, and abase that which is high. ²⁷ I will overturn, overturn, overturn it: this also shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it [him].

¹² And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.

⁵² He hath put down princes from [their] thrones, And hath exalted them of low degree.

¹¹ For every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

⁹ And he spake also this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and set all others at nought: ¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I get. ¹³ But the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me a sinner. ¹⁴ I say unto you, This man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; but he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

⁶ But he giveth more grace. Wherefore [the scripture] saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

⁵ Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to serve one another: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

²⁶ And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake. ²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes: ²⁸ peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, I will not destroy it, if I find there forty and five. ²⁹ And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for the forty’s sake. ³⁰ And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there. ³¹ And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake. ³² And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake.

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. ⁸ Now therefore, take unto you seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you; for him will I accept, that I deal not with you after your folly; for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

²⁰ The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

⁴ He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, and hath not sworn deceitfully.

¹⁵ And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

¹² And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

¹ Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that doeth justly, that seeketh truth; and I will pardon her.

⁹ And now, I pray you, entreat the favour of God, that he may be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he accept any of your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.

¹⁹ Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast it out? ²⁰ And he saith unto them, Because of your little faith: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

¹⁵ And the evil spirit answered and said unto them, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? ¹⁶ And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and mastered both of them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

²⁴ saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must stand before Caesar: and lo, God hath granted thee all them that sail with thee.

⁸ I desire therefore that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and disputing.

¹⁵ and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him. ¹⁶ Confess therefore your sins one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in its working.
