¹ A Song of Ascents; of David. LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too wonderful for me. ² Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with his mother, my soul is with me like a weaned child. ³ O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.

³ Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.

²³ And Saul’s servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be the king’s son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?

³ Who is this that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that which I understood not, things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

⁷⁰ He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: ⁷¹ From following the ewes that give suck he brought him, to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. ⁷² So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

⁵ Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I destroy: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will I not suffer.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

²⁵ And the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and shew me both it, and his habitation: ²⁶ but if he say thus, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.

¹⁵ For thus said the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.

²⁶ It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

³ and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye turn, and become as little children, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁵ Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall in no wise enter therein.

¹⁹ In your patience ye shall win your souls.

¹ Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. ² In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.

¹⁸ But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. Praise ye the LORD.

⁷ O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

⁵ Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:

⁴ Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is an everlasting rock.

⁷ Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out his roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat cometh, but his leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
