⁷ All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, [saying],

⁴ I also could speak as ye do; if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could join words together against you, and shake mine head at you.

¹⁰ They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully: they gather themselves together against me.

⁹ And now I am become their song, yea, I am a byword unto them. ¹⁰ They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, and spare not to spit in my face. ¹¹ For he hath loosed his cord, and afflicted me, and they have cast off the bridle before me.

¹⁸ Let the lying lips be dumb; which speak against the righteous insolently, with pride and contempt.

¹⁵ But when I halted they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew [it] not; they did tear me, and ceased not: ¹⁶ Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

¹⁴ Thou makest us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.

²⁵ I am become also a reproach unto them: when they see me, they shake their head.

²² this is the word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion hath despised thee and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee. ²³ Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice and lifted up thine eyes on high? [even] against the Holy One of Israel.

³ He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

⁴ Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,

²⁴ he said, Give place: for the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

⁶⁶ what think ye? They answered and said, He is worthy of death. ⁶⁷ Then did they spit in his face and buffet him: and some smote him with the palms of their hands, ⁶⁸ saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ: who is he that struck thee?

²⁹ And they plaited a crown of thorns and put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

³⁹ And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, ⁴⁰ and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross.

²⁹ And Jesus said unto them, I will ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. ³⁰ The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? answer me. ³¹ And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him? ³² But should we say, From men—they feared the people: for all verily held John to be a prophet.

²⁰ And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the purple, and put on him his garments. And they lead him out to crucify him.

²⁹ And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ha! thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,

¹⁴ And the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things; and they scoffed at him.

¹¹ And Herod with his soldiers set him at nought, and mocked him, and arraying him in gorgeous apparel sent him back to Pilate.

³⁵ And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also scoffed at him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen. ³⁶ And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, offering him vinegar, ³⁷ and saying, If thou art the King of the Jews, save thyself. ³⁸ And there was also a superscription over him, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. ³⁹ And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, Art not thou the Christ? save thyself and us.
