⁸ Wee are afflicted on euery side, yet are we not in distresse: we are in doubt, but yet wee despaire not.

¹⁵ And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me vp? Then Saul answered, I am in great distresse: for the Philistims make warre against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by Prophetes, neither by dreames: therefore I haue called thee, that thou mayest tell me, what I shall doe.

⁶ And Dauid was in great sorowe: for the people entended to stone him, because the heartes of all the people were vexed euery man for his sonnes and for his daughters: but Dauid comforted him selfe in the Lord his God.

⁴ Then saide Saul vnto his armour bearer, Drawe out thy sworde, and thrust mee through therewith, lest the vncircumcised come and thrust me through and mocke me: but his armour bearer would not, for hee was sore afraid. Therefore Saul tooke a sworde and fell vpon it.

⁹ Then said his wife vnto him, Doest thou continue yet in thine vprightnes? Blaspheme God, and dye. ¹⁰ But he said vnto her, Thou speakest like a foolish woman: what? shall we receiue good at the hande of God, and not receiue euill? In all this did not Iob sinne with his lippes.

³³ But the Lord wil not leaue him in his hand, nor condemne him, when he is iudged.

² Mine enemies would dayly swallowe mee vp: for many fight against me, O thou most High. ³ When I was afrayd, I trusted in thee.

²⁶ In the feare of the Lord is an assured strength, and his children shall haue hope.

¹⁰ The Name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth vnto it, and is exalted.

¹⁸ I will not leaue you fatherles: but I will come to you.

³ Neither that onely, but also we reioyce in tribulations, knowing that tribulation bringeth forth patience, ⁴ And patience experience, and experience hope, ⁵ And hope maketh not ashamed, because the loue of God is shed abroade in our heartes by the holy Ghost, which is giuen vnto vs.

³⁵ Who shall separate vs from the loue of Christ? shall tribulation or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakednesse, or perill, or sworde? ³⁶ As it is written, For thy sake are we killed all day long: we are counted as sheepe for the slaughter. ³⁷ Neuerthelesse, in all these thinges we are more then coquerours through him that loued vs.

¹³ There hath no tentation taken you, but such as appertaine to man: and God is faithfull, which will not suffer you to be tempted aboue that you be able, but wil euen giue the issue with the tentation, that ye may be able to beare it.

⁸ For brethren, we woulde not haue you ignorant of our affliction, which came vnto vs in Asia, howe we were pressed out of measure passing strength, so that we altogether doubted, euen of life. ⁹ Yea, we receiued the sentence of death in our selues, because we shoulde not trust in our selues, but in God, which rayseth the dead. ¹⁰ Who deliuered vs from so great a death, and doeth deliuer vs: in whom we trust, that yet hereafter he will deliuer vs,

¹⁶ Therefore we faint not, but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed daily. ¹⁷ For our light affliction which is but for a moment, causeth vnto vs a farre most excellent and an eternall waight of glorie:

⁴ But in all things we approue our selues as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,

⁵ For when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on euery side, fightings without, and terrours within.

²³ They are the ministers of Christ (I speake as a foole) I am more: in labours more aboundant: in stripes aboue measure: in prison more plenteously: in death oft. ²⁴ Of the Iewes fiue times receiued I fourtie stripes saue one. ²⁵ I was thrise beaten with roddes: I was once stoned: I suffered thrise shipwracke: night and day haue I bene in the deepe sea. ²⁶ In iourneying I was often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of mine owne nation, in perils among the Gentiles, in perils in the citie, in perils in wildernes, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren, ²⁷ In wearinesse and painefulnesse, in watching often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in colde and in nakednesse. ²⁸ Beside the thinges which are outwarde, I am combred dayly, and haue the care of all the Churches. ²⁹ Who is weake, and I am not weake? who is offended, and I burne not? ³⁰ If I must needes reioyce, I will reioyce of mine infirmities.

¹⁰ Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproches, in necessities, in persecutions, in anguish for Christes sake: for when I am weake, then am I strong.

² My brethren, count it exceeding ioy, when ye fall into diuers tentations, ³ Knowing that ye trying of your faith bringeth forth patience, ⁴ And let patience haue her perfect worke, that ye may be perfect and entier, lacking nothing.

⁶ Wherein yee reioyce, though nowe for a season (if neede require) yee are in heauinesse, through manifolde tentations, ⁷ That the triall of your faith, being much more precious then golde that perisheth (though it be tried with fire) might bee founde vnto your praise, and honour and glorie at the appearing of Iesus Christ:

¹² Dearely beloued, thinke it not strange concerning the firie triall, which is among you to proue you, as though some strange thing were come vnto you: ¹³ But reioyce, in asmuch as ye are partakers of Christs suffrings, that when his glory shall appeare, ye may be glad and reioyce. ¹⁴ If yee be railed vpon for the Name of Christ, blessed are ye: for the spirit of glory, and of God resteth vpon you: which on their part is euill spoken of: but on your part is glorified.
