⁵⁴ Waters flowed ouer mine head, then thought I, I am destroyed.

¹¹ My dayes are past, mine enterprises are broken, and the thoughts of mine heart ¹² Haue changed the nyght for the day, and the light that approched, for darkenesse. ¹³ Though I hope, yet the graue shall bee mine house, and I shall make my bed in the darke. ¹⁴ I shall say to corruption, Thou art my father, and to the worme, Thou art my mother and my sister. ¹⁵ Where is then now mine hope? or who shall consider the thing, that I hoped for? ¹⁶ They shall goe downe into the bottome of the pit: surely it shall lye together in the dust.

⁴ The sorowes of death compassed me, and the floods of wickednes made me afraide.

²² Though I said in mine haste, I am cast out of thy sight, yet thou heardest the voyce of my prayer, when I cryed vnto thee.

¹ To him that excelleth upon Shoshannim. A Psalme of David. Save mee, O God: for the waters are entred euen to my soule. ² I sticke fast in the deepe myre, where no staie is: I am come into deepe waters, and the streames runne ouer me.

¹⁵ Let not the water flood drowne mee, neither let the deepe swallowe me vp: and let not the pit shut her mouth vpon me.

⁴ Then the waters had drowned vs, and the streame had gone ouer our soule: ⁵ Then had the swelling waters gone ouer our soule.

¹⁰ I saide in the cutting off of my dayes, I shall goe to the gates of the graue: I am depriued of the residue of my yeeres. ¹¹ I said, I shall not see the Lord, euen the Lord in the land of the liuing: I shall see man no more among the inhabitants of the world. ¹² Mine habitation is departed, and is remoued from me, like a shepheards tent: I haue cut off like a weauer my life: he will cut me off from the height: from day to night, thou wilt make an ende of me. ¹³ I rekoned to the morning: but he brake all my bones, like a lion: from day to night wilt thou make an ende of me.

¹⁸ And I saide, My strength and mine hope is perished from the Lord,

¹¹ Then he sayd vnto me, Sonne of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is gone, and we are cleane cut off.

³ For thou haddest cast me into the bottome in the middes of the sea, and the floods compassed me about: all thy surges, and all thy waues passed ouer me. ⁴ Then I saide, I am cast away out of thy sight: yet will I looke againe towarde thine holy Temple. ⁵ The waters compassed me about vnto the soule: the depth closed me rounde about, and the weedes were wrapt about mine head.

⁸ For brethren, we woulde not haue you ignorant of our affliction, which came vnto vs in Asia, howe we were pressed out of measure passing strength, so that we altogether doubted, euen of life. ⁹ Yea, we receiued the sentence of death in our selues, because we shoulde not trust in our selues, but in God, which rayseth the dead. ¹⁰ Who deliuered vs from so great a death, and doeth deliuer vs: in whom we trust, that yet hereafter he will deliuer vs,
