¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath he went to the synagogue, as he was accustomed to do, and stood up to read the Scriptures.

²³ and he went and settled in a town called Nazareth, in fulfilment of the saying of the prophets, "He shall be called a Nazarene."

⁵⁴ and went to his own part of the country. And he taught the people in their synagogue in such a way that they were astonished, and said, "Where did he get this wisdom, and the power to do these wonders? ⁵⁵ Is he not the carpenter's son? Is not his mother named Mary, and are not his brothers named James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?

¹ Leaving there he went, followed by his disciples, to his own part of the country. ² When the Sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue. And the people were astonished when they heard him, and said, "Where did he get all this? How does he come to have such wisdom? How are such marvelous things done through him? ³ Is he not the carpenter, Mary's son, and the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And do not his sisters live here among us?"

²⁶ In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, ²⁷ to a maiden there who was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The maiden's name was Mary.

³⁹ When they had done everything that the Law of the Lord required, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.

⁴² And when he was twelve years old, they went up as usual to the festival and made their customary stay.

⁵¹ And he went back with them to Nazareth and obeyed them. And his mother treasured all these things up in her mind.

¹⁵ And he taught in their synagogues, and was honored by them all.

²¹ And he began by saying to them, "This passage of Scripture has been fulfilled here in your hearing today!"

²⁰ Jesus answered, "I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in synagogues or in the Temple where all the Jews meet together, and I have said nothing in secret.

¹⁴ but they went on from Perga and reached Antioch in Pisidia. On the Sabbath they went to the synagogue there and took seats. ¹⁵ After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue authorities sent to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have any appeal to make to the people, proceed." ¹⁶ Then Paul got up, and motioning with his hand, said, "Men of Israel, and you who reverence God, listen!
