¹³ that thy mynde is so puft vp agaynst God, and lettest soch wordes go oute of thy mouth?

⁴ Concernynge soch as be wyse of herte, or myghtye in strength, who euer prospered, that toke part against hym?

³ Thinckest thou it well done, to oppresse me, to cast me of (beynge the worckes of thy handes) and to mainteyne the councel of the vngodly?

⁶ The houses of robers are in wealth & prosperite: and they that malyciously medle agaynst God, dwell without care, in those thynges that God hath geuen rychely with hys hande.

²⁵ For he hath stretched out hys hande agaynst God, and armed hym selfe agaynst the almyghtye, ²⁶ He runneth proudly vpon hym, and with a styff necke fyghteth he agaynst hym: ²⁷ where as he couereth hys face with fatnesse, and maketh hys body well lykynge.

⁷ Because that the flesshly mynde is enemyte agaynst God: for it is not obedyent to the lawe of God, nether can be. ⁸ So then they that are in the flesshe, cannot please God.

²⁶ If eny man among you seme to be deuoute &, refrayneth not hys tong, but deceaueth hys awne hert, thys mannes deuocyon is in vayne.

² for in many thinges we synne all. If a man synne not in worde, the same is a perfecte man, & able also to tame all the body. ³ Beholde, we put bittes in to the horses mouthes, that they maye obeye vs, & we turne aboute all the body of them. ⁴ Beholde also the shyppes, whych though they be so great, & are dryuen of fearce wyndes, yet are they turned about wyth a very small helme whyther soeuer the violence of the gouerner will. ⁵ Euen so the tonge is a lytel member also, and boasteth great thynges. Beholde, how gret a thynge a lytell fyre kyndleth, ⁶ and the tonge is fyre, euen a world of wyckednes. So is the tonge set amonge oure membres, that it defyleth the whole body, and setteth a fyre all that we haue of nature, and is it selfe set a fyre euen of hell.
