³¹ And lo, it was all couered wt nettels, & stode full of thystles, & the stone wall was broken downe.

¹⁷ Unto Adam he sayde: Because thou hast herkened vnto the voyce of thy wyfe, & hast eaten of the tree (concernynge the which I commaunded the, sayinge: Thou shalt not eate of it) cursed is the ground for thy sake. In sorowe shalt thou eate of it all the dayes of thy lyfe. ¹⁸ Thorne also & thystle shall it cause to growe vnto the, & thou shalt eate the herbe of the felde. ¹⁹ In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eate bread, tyll thou be turned agayne into the grounde, for out of it was thou taken, in asmuch as thou art dust, & into dust shalt thou be turned agayne.

⁴⁰ then let thystles growe in steade of my wheate, & cockle for my barleye. Here ende the wordes of Iob:

²³ The feare of the Lord bringeth a man to lyfe: and he shall rest the hole night in plenteousnes, without visitacyon of anye plage.

⁴ A slouthfull body wyll not go to plowe for colde of the wynter: therfore shall he go a beggyng in sommer, & haue nothynge.

¹³ The slouthfull body sayeth: there is a lyon without, I myght be slayn in the strete.

²¹ for soch as be dronckardes & ryotous shall come to pouerte, & he that is geuen to moch slepe, shall go wt a ragged coate.

¹⁸ Thorow slouthfulnesse the balckes fall downe, & thorow ydle handes it rayneth in at the house.

⁵ Well, now I shall tell you how I wyll do with my vyneyarde: I will take the hedge from it, that it maye perysh, and breake downe the wall, that it maye be troden vnder fote.

³ For thus sayeth the Lorde, to all Iuda & Ierusalem: plowe your lande, and sowe not amonge the thornes.

⁷ Agayne, some fell amonge thornes, and the thornes spronge vp and choaked them.

²² He also that receaued sede into the thornes, is he that heareth the worde: and the care of this worlde, and the dissaytfulnes of ryches, choke vp the worde, and so is he made vnfrutefull.

⁸ But that grounde which beareth thornes and bryars, is reproued, and is nye vnto cursynge: whose ende is to be burned.
