²¹ Then brother shall surrender brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.

³⁴ Think not that I am come to bring peace to the earth: I came not to bring peace, but a sword. ³⁵ For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. ³⁶ And the enemies of a man shall be those of his own house.

¹⁰ And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and hate one another.

⁵¹ Think ye that I came to bring peace upon earth? No, I tell you; but rather division: ⁵² for henceforth five shall be in one house, divided, three against two, and two against three. ⁵³ The father shall take part against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the step-mother against her daughter-in-law, and the son's wife against her mother-in-law.
