¹ The Nations and God’s Anointed Why are the nations in an uproar, and their people involved in a vain plot? ² As the kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers conspire together against the LORD and his anointed one, they say, ³ “Let us tear off their shackles from us, and cast off their chains.” ⁴ He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. ⁵ In his anger he rebukes them, and in his wrath he terrifies them: ⁶ “I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”
⁷ The Anointed King SpeaksLet me announce the decree of the LORD that he told me: “You are my son, today I have become your father. ⁸ Ask of me, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the ends of the earth as your possession. ⁹ You will break them with an iron rod, you will shatter them like pottery.” ¹⁰ Therefore, kings, act wisely! Earthly rulers, be warned! ¹¹ Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. ¹² Kiss the son before he becomes angry, and you die where you stand. Indeed, his wrath can flare up quickly. How blessed are those who take refuge in him.

⁴² I ground them like wind-swept dust; I emptied them out like dirt in the street.

¹¹ Though they plot evil against you and devise schemes, they will not succeed.

⁶ The nations roared; the kingdoms were shaken. His voice boomed; the earth melts.

⁴ They say, “Let us go and erase them as a nation so the name of Israel will not be remembered anymore.” ⁵ Indeed, they shrewdly planned together, forming an alliance against you— ⁶ the tents of Edom, the Ishmaelites, Moab, the Hagrites, ⁷ Gebal, Ammon, Amalek, Philistia, and the inhabitants of Tyre. ⁸ Even Assyria joined them to strengthen the descendants of Lot. Interlude

⁹ “Band together, you peoples, but be shattered! Listen, all you distant countries! Strap on your armor, but be shattered.

³⁸ But when the tenant farmers saw his son, they told one another, ‘This is the heir. Come on, let’s kill him and get his inheritance!’

³² because he’ll be handed over to the unbelievers, and will be mocked, insulted, and spit on.

¹ The Plot to Kill Jesus
Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was near. ² So the high priests and the scribes were looking for a way to put him to death, because they were afraid of the crowd.

⁵ They were delighted, and agreed to give him money.

²² The Son of Man is going away, just as it has been determined, but how terrible it will be for that man by whom he is betrayed!” ²³ Then they began to discuss among themselves which one of them was going to do this.

⁴⁹ But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, told them, “You don’t know anything! ⁵⁰ You don’t realize that it is better for you to have one man die for the people than to have the whole nation destroyed.”

²⁵ You said by the Holy Spirit through the voice of our ancestor, your servant David,‘Why do the unbelievers rage, and the people devise useless plots? ²⁶ The kings of the earth take their stand, and rulers meet together against the Lord and against his Messiah.’

³³ When the Council heard this, they became furious and wanted to kill them.

²² The crowd joined in the attack against them. Then the magistrates had Paul and Silas stripped of their clothes and ordered them beaten with rods.

⁵ But the Jewish leaders became jealous, and they took some contemptible characters who used to hang out in the public square, formed a mob, and started a riot in the city. They attacked Jason’s home and searched it for Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the people. ⁶ When they didn’t find them, they dragged Jason and some other brothers before the city officials and shouted, “These fellows who have turned the world upside down have come here, too,

²⁸ When they heard this, they became furious and began to shout, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” ²⁹ The city was filled with confusion, and the people rushed into the theater together, dragging with them Gaius and Aristarchus, Paul’s fellow travelers from Macedonia. ³⁰ Paul wanted to go into the crowd, but the disciples wouldn’t let him. ³¹ Even some officials of the province of Asia who were his friends sent him a message urging him not to risk his life in the theater.
³² Meanwhile, some were shouting one thing and some another, since the crowd was confused, and most of them didn’t know why they were meeting.

¹⁴ They will wage war against the lamb, but the lamb will conquer them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings. Those who are called, chosen, and faithful are with him.”

⁷ and in the morning you will see the glory of the LORD, because he has heard your complaints against him. After all, who are we that you complain against us?”

¹⁰ Therefore, kings, act wisely! Earthly rulers, be warned!

⁷ You love justice and hate wickedness. That is why God, even your God, has anointed you rather than your companions with the oil of gladness.

⁴ Behold, when the kings assembled together, when they traveled together,

¹⁸ Remember this: The enemy scorns the LORD and a foolish people despises your name.

²³ Don’t ignore the shout of those opposing you, The uproar of those who rebel against you continuously.

²⁰ I have found my servant David; I have anointed him with my sacred oil,

⁵ The Lord is at your right hand; he will utterly destroy kings in the time of his wrath.

³⁰ No wisdom, insight, or counsel can prevail against the LORD.

¹ Good News of Deliverance “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed and to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and release from darkness for the prisoners;

¹⁶ The Massacre of the InfantsHerod flew into a rage when he learned that he had been tricked by the wise men, so he ordered the execution of all the male children in Bethlehem and all its neighboring regions, who were two years old and younger, according to the time that he had determined from the wise men.

³ Then the high priests and the elders of the people assembled in the courtyard of the high priest, who was named Caiaphas.

⁵⁹ Meanwhile, the high priests and the whole Council were looking for false testimony against Jesus in order to have him put to death.

¹ Jesus is Taken to Pilate
When morning came, all the high priests and elders of the people conspired against Jesus to put him to death.

³¹ Jesus Rebukes Jerusalem
At that hour some Pharisees came and told Jesus, “Leave and get away from here, because Herod wants to kill you!”

¹¹ Even Herod and his soldiers treated him with contempt and made fun of him. He put a magnificent robe on Jesus and sent him back to Pilate. ¹² So Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day. Before this they had been enemies.

⁴¹ The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and say to him, “We have found the Anointed One!” (which is translated “Messiah”).

³⁴ The one whom God sent speaks the words of God, because God does not give the Spirit in limited measure to him.

²³ The person who hates me also hates my Father.

⁵ The next day, their rulers, elders, and scribes met in Jerusalem ⁶ with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and the rest of the high priest’s family. ⁷ They made Peter and John stand in front of them and began asking, “By what power or by what name did you do this?”
⁸ Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, told them, “Rulers and elders of the people!

⁴ He dropped to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul! Why are you persecuting me?”

³⁸ God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and because God was with him, he went around doing good and healing everyone who was oppressed by the devil.

¹ An Angel Frees Peter from PrisonAbout that time, Herod arrested some people who belonged to the church and mistreated them. ² He even had James, the brother of John, killed with a sword. ³ When he saw how this was agreeable to the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter, too. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread. ⁴ When he arrested Peter, Herod put him in prison and turned him over to four squads of soldiers to guard him, planning to bring him out to the people after Passover season. ⁵ So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayer to God for him was being offered by the assembly.
⁶ That very night, before Herod was going to bring him out, Peter, bound with two chains, was sleeping between two soldiers, and guards in front of the door were watching the prisoners.

⁹ You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. That is why God, your God, anointed you rather than your companions with the oil of gladness.”

¹² The ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom. They will receive authority to rule as kings with the beast for one hour. ¹³ They have one purpose: to give their power and authority to the beast. ¹⁴ They will wage war against the lamb, but the lamb will conquer them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings. Those who are called, chosen, and faithful are with him.”

⁵ Let me go to the leaders and speak to them. For they know the LORD’s way, the requirement of their God.”
The LORD Answers “But they, all together, have broken the yoke and torn off the restraints.

¹⁴ But the citizens of his country hated him and sent a delegation to follow him and to announce, ‘We don’t want this man to rule over us!’

²⁷ But as for these enemies of mine who didn’t want me to be their king—bring them here and slaughter them in my presence!’”

⁷ Therefore he is precious to you who believe, but to those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone, ⁸ a stone they stumble over and a rock they trip on.”They keep on stumbling because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

²¹ “This is what the LORD has spoken against him: ‘She despises and mocks you, this virgin daughter of Zion! Behind your back she shakes her head, this daughter of Jerusalem!

⁴ The LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD’s throne is in the heavens. His eyes see, his glance examines humanity.

¹³ But the Lord laughs at him because he sees that his day is coming!

⁵ There the Israelis were seized with terror, when there was nothing to fear. For God scattered the bones of those who laid siege against you— you put them to shame, for God rejected them.

⁸ But you, LORD, will laugh at them; you will mock all the nations.

³³ to the one who rides the heavens, the ancient heavens. Behold! He thunders with a mighty voice.

³ when our God is in the heavens and he does whatever he desires?

²⁶ I will laugh at your calamity. I will mock when what you fear comes,

²² He’s the one who sits above the disk of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers. He’s the one who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in,

¹⁵ “For this is what the high and lofty One says, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “He lives in the height and in holiness, and also with the one who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

¹ The Worship that God Commands This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house that you would build for me, and where will my resting place be?

⁹ When you appear, you will set them ablaze like a fire furnace. In his wrath, the LORD will consume them, and the fire will devour them.

¹⁶ As for the wicked, God says, “How dare you recite my statutes or speak about my covenant with your lips! ¹⁷ You hate instruction and toss my words behind you. ¹⁸ When you see a thief, you befriend him, and you keep company with adulterers. ¹⁹ You give your mouth free reign for evil, and your tongue devises deceit. ²⁰ You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother’s son. ²¹ These things you did, and I kept silent, because you assumed that I was like you. But now I am going to rebuke you, and I will set forth my case before your very own eyes.” ²² Consider this, you who have forgotten God— Otherwise, I will tear you in pieces and there will be no deliverer:

⁴⁹ He inflicted his burning anger, wrath, indignation, and distress, sending destroying angels among them. ⁵⁰ He blazed a path for his anger; he did not stop short from killing them, but handed them over to pestilence.

⁵ The Lord is at your right hand; he will utterly destroy kings in the time of his wrath. ⁶ He will execute judgment against the nations, filling graves with corpses. He will utterly destroy leaders far and wide.

⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the needy, and decide with equity for earth’s poor. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and the wicked will be killed with the breath of his lips.

⁶ “Listen to that uproar in the city! Listen to that noise from the Temple! It is the sound of the LORD paying back retribution to his enemies!

¹⁵ I am deeply angry with the nations who are complacent, with whom I was only a little displeased—but they made things worse!”

⁷ Then the king became outraged. He sent his troops, and they destroyed those murderers and burned their city.

³³ You snakes, you children of serpents! How can you escape being condemned to hell?
³⁴ “That is why I am sending you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will whip in your synagogues and persecute from town to town. ³⁵ As a result, you will be held accountable for all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of the righteous Abel to the blood of Berechiah’s son Zechariah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar. ³⁶ I tell all of you with certainty, all these things will happen to those living today.”

⁴³ because the days will come when your enemies will build walls around you, surround you, and close you in on every side. ⁴⁴ They will level you to the ground—you and those who live within your city limits. They will not leave one stone on another within your walls, because you didn’t recognize the time when you were visited.”

¹⁶ In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp, two-edged sword. His face was like the sun when it shines with full force.

¹⁵ A sharp sword comes out of his mouth to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod and tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.

⁶ Your throne, God, exists forever and ever, and the scepter of your kingdom is a righteous scepter.

Zion, City of God Great is the LORD! For he is to be praised greatly, even in the city of our God, his holy mountain. ² Beautifully situated, the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion towards the north, the city of the great King.

² From Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shined forth.

⁶⁸ But he chose the tribe of Judah, the mountain of Zion, which he loves.

²⁷ “Indeed, I myself made him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth.

³⁶ His dynasty will last forever and his throne will be like the sun before me. ³⁷ It will be established forever like the moon, a faithful witness in the sky.” Interlude

¹ A Davidic psalm
A Priestly Ruler A declaration from the LORD to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.” ² When the LORD extends your mighty scepter from Zion, rule in the midst of your enemies.

¹³ For the LORD has chosen Zion, desiring it as his dwelling place. ¹⁴ “This is my resting place forever. Here I will live, because I desire to do so.

⁶ For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the growth of his government and peace there will be no end. He will rule over his kingdom, sitting on the throne of David, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of the Heavenly Armies will accomplish this.

¹³ The Vision of the Son of Man“I continued to observe the night vision—and look!—someone like the Son of Man was coming, accompanied by heavenly clouds. He approached the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. ¹⁴ To him dominion was bestowed, along with glory and a kingdom, so that all peoples, nations, and languages are to serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion—it will never pass away—and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.”

¹⁸ Then Jesus approached them and told them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

³⁴ After all, David did not go up to heaven, but he said, ‘The Lord told my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, ³⁵ until I make your enemies your footstool.”’
³⁶ “Therefore, let all the people of Israel understand beyond a doubt that God made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah!”

³⁰ The God of our ancestors raised Jesus to life after you killed him by hanging him on a tree. ³¹ God has exalted to his right hand this very man as our Leader and Savior in order to extend repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel.

²² God has put everything under the Messiah’s feet and has made him the head of everything for the good of the church,

⁹ Now lifted up by God to heaven, a name above all others given, this matchless name possessing. ¹⁰ And so, when Jesus’ name is called, the knees of everyone should fall, wherever they’re residing. ¹¹ Then every tongue in one accord, will say that Jesus the Messiah is Lord, while God the Father praising.

²² Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, to the heavenly Jerusalem, to tens of thousands of angels joyfully gathered together,

¹ The Vision of the New Song on Mount ZionThen I looked, and there was the lamb, standing on Mount Zion! With him were 144,000 people who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.

¹³ Job Stands Petrified Before God“But he is One—who can change him? He does whatever he wants to do.

⁶ He set them in place to last forever and ever; he gave the command and will not rescind it.

¹⁰ I declare from the beginning things to follow, and from ancient times things that have not yet been done; saying, ‘My purpose will stand, and he will accomplish everything that I please.’

¹⁷ Then a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with him!”

²⁹ Suddenly, they screamed, “What do you want with us, Son of God? Did you come here to torture us before the proper time?”

¹⁶ Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!”

⁵ He was still speaking when a bright cloud suddenly overshadowed them.
A voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love. I am pleased with him. Keep on listening to him!”

¹⁴ The Word Becomes HumanThe Word became flesh and lived among us. We gazed on his glory, the kind of glory that belongs to the Father’s unique Son, who is full of grace and truth.

¹⁸ No one has ever seen God. The unique God, who is close to the Father’s side, has revealed him.

¹⁶ “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his unique Son so that everyone who believes in him might not be lost but have eternal life.

³⁶ As they were going along the road, they came to some water. The eunuch said, “Look, there’s some water. What keeps me from being baptized?”

³³ he has fulfilled for us, their descendants, by raising Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm, ‘You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.’

⁴ and was declared by the resurrection from the dead to be the powerful Son of God according to the spirit of holiness—Jesus the Messiah, our Lord. ⁵ God’s Son is Superior to the AngelsFor to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son. Today I have become your Father”? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”? ⁶ And again, when he brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.”

⁶ but the Messiah was faithful as the Son in charge of God’s household, and we are his household if we hold on to our courage and the hope in which we rejoice.

⁵ The Messiah’s Qualifications as High PriestIn the same way, the Messiah did not take upon himself the glory of being a high priest. No, it was God who said to him, “You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.”

⁸ Son though he was, he learned obedience through his sufferings

²⁷ All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD; all the families of the nations will bow in submission to the LORD.

⁸ May he rule from sea to sea, from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.

¹³ The Vision of the Son of Man“I continued to observe the night vision—and look!—someone like the Son of Man was coming, accompanied by heavenly clouds. He approached the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.

⁴ I glorified you on earth by completing the task you gave me to do.
⁵ “So now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world existed.

⁸ Your hand will find all your enemies, your right hand will find those who hate you. ⁹ When you appear, you will set them ablaze like a fire furnace. In his wrath, the LORD will consume them, and the fire will devour them.

²³ I will crush his enemies before him and strike those who hate him.

¹⁴ Its breaking will be like when potters’ vessels are broken, shattered so ruthlessly that among its fragments not even a broken sliver will be found for taking fire from a hearth or scooping water out of a cistern.”

¹² For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish; those nations will be utterly ruined.

¹¹ and say to them, ‘This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: “In this same way I’ll break this people and this city, just as someone breaks a potter’s vessel which he then cannot put back together again. They’ll bury corpses in Topheth until there is no more room to bury anyone.

⁴⁴ “During the reigns of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor its sovereignty left in the hands of another people. It will shatter and crush all of these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.

⁴⁴ The person who falls over this stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush anyone on whom it falls.”

²⁶ To the person who conquers and continues to do what I’ve commanded to the end, I will give authority over the nations. ²⁷ ‘He will rule them with an iron scepter; shattering them like clay pots.’

⁵ She gave birth to a son, a boy, who is to rule all the nations with an iron scepter. But her child was snatched away and taken to God and to his throne.

¹² The daughter of Tyre will come with a wedding gift; wealthy people will entreat your favor.

¹⁰ May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores bring gifts, and may the kings of Sheba and Seba offer tribute. ¹¹ May all kings bow down to him, and all nations serve him.

¹ A Psalm of Asaph
Asking God for Justice God takes his stand in the divine assembly; among the divine beings he renders judgment: ² “How long will you judge partially by showing favor on the wicked? Interlude ³ “Defend the poor and the fatherless. Vindicate the afflicted and the poor. ⁴ Rescue the poor and the needy, delivering them from the power of the wicked. ⁵ They neither know nor understand; they walk about in the dark while all the foundations of the earth are shaken. ⁶ “Indeed I said, ‘You are gods, and all of you are sons of the Most High. ⁷ However, as all human beings do, you will die, and like other rulers, you will fall.’ ⁸ Arise, God, to judge the earth, for all nations belong to you.

²³ “Oh, yes! Kings will be your foster fathers, and their queens will be your nursing mothers. They will bow to you with their faces to the ground, and lick the dust from your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD; those who hope in me will not be disappointed.

¹⁵ so will he startle many nations. Kings will shut their mouths at him; for what had not been told them they will see, and what they had not heard they will understand.

³ Nations will come to your light, and kings before your dawn.

¹⁰ “Foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you. Though in my anger I struck you down, in my favor I have shown you mercy. ¹¹ Your gates will always stand open by day or night, and they will not be shut, so that nations will bring you their wealth, with their kings led in procession.

⁸ Be warned, Jerusalem, or I’ll be alienated from you. I’ll make you desolate, a land not inhabited.”

⁹ Concluding CounselWhoever is wise, let him understand these things. Whoever is discerning, let him know them. For the ways of the LORD are right: the righteous follow his example, but the rebellious stumble in them.

⁷ God is feared in the council of the holy ones, revered by all those around him.

¹ Worship and Obedience Come! Let us sing joyfully to the LORD! Let us shout for joy to the rock of our salvation. ² Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us shout with songs of praise to him. ³ For the LORD is an awesome God; a great king above all divine beings. ⁴ He holds in his hand the lowest parts of the earth and the mountain peaks belong to him. ⁵ The sea that he made belongs to him, along with the dry land that his hands formed. ⁶ Come! Let us worship and bow down; let us kneel in the presence of the LORD, who made us. ⁷ For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the flock in his care. If only you would listen to his voice today, ⁸ do not be stubborn like your ancestors were at Meribah, as on that day at Massah, in the wilderness,

¹ The LORD is King The LORD reigns! Let the earth rejoice! May many islands be glad!

¹ The LORD is Holy The LORD reigns— let people tremble; he is seated above the cherubim— let the earth quake.

¹¹⁹ You remove all the wicked of the earth like dross; therefore I love your decrees. ¹²⁰ My flesh trembles out of fear of you, and I am in awe of your judgments.

¹² Blameless LivingAnd so, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only when I was with you but even more now that I am absent, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

¹ We Must Enter the RestTherefore, as long as the promise of entering his rest remains valid, let us be afraid! Otherwise, some of you will fail to reach it, ² because we have had the good news told to us as well as to them. But the message they heard did not help them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened to it.

²⁵ See to it that you do not ignore the one who is speaking. For if the hearers did not escape when they ignored the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we turn away from the one who is from heaven!

²⁸ Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful and worship God in reverence and fear in a way that pleases him. ²⁹ For “our God is an all-consuming fire.”

⁴⁰ So you are to be appointed in charge over my palace, and all of my people are to do whatever you command them to do. Only the throne will have greater authority than you.”

⁴³ Then he provided him with a chariot as his second-in-command, outfitted with a group of people who shouted out in front of him, “Bow your knees!” And that’s how Pharaoh set Joseph over the entire land of Egypt.
⁴⁴ Pharaoh Rewards JosephPharaoh also told Joseph, “I’m still Pharaoh, but without your permission nobody in all of the land of Egypt will so much as lift up their hands or take a step!”

¹ Saul is Anointed KingSamuel took a flask of oil, poured it on Saul’s head, kissed him, and said, “The LORD has anointed you Commander-in-Chief over his inheritance, has he not?

¹⁸ Nevertheless, I’ve reserved 7,000 in Israel who have neither bowed their knees to Baal nor kissed him.”

⁶ For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will be destroyed.

⁴ How blessed is that strong person who places his trust in the LORD, and who has not acknowledged the proud nor resorted to lies.

¹² LORD of Heavenly Armies, how happy are those who trust in you.

³ Do not look to nobles, nor to mere human beings who cannot save. ⁴ When they stop breathing, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans evaporate! ⁵ Happy is the one whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,

²⁰ Whoever listens to a word of instruction prospers, and anyone who trusts in the LORD is blessed.

³ You will keep perfectly peaceful the one whose mind remains focused on you, because he remains in you. ⁴ “Trust in the LORD forever, for in the LORD GOD you have an everlasting rock.

¹⁸ Restoration is Promised to Israel“Nevertheless, the LORD will wait so he can be gracious to you; and thus he will rise up to show you mercy. For the LORD is a God of justice. How blessed are all those who wait for him.”

⁷ Blessed is the person who trusts in the LORD, making the LORD his trust.

² but now they are sinning more and more, crafting idols from melted silver. Their idols are made with the most exacting skill, all of it the work of craftsmen. People say about them, ‘They offer human sacrifice, and kiss calf-shaped idols.’

²³ so that everyone may honor the Son as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

⁶ Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

³³ As it is written, “Look! I am placing a stone in Zion over which people will stumble— a large rock that will make them fall— and the one who believes in him will never be ashamed.”

¹¹ The Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will never be ashamed.”

¹² so that we who had already fixed our hope on the Messiah might live for his praise and glory.

⁸ in blazing fire. He will take revenge on those who do not know God and on those who refuse to obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. ⁹ Such people will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction by being separated from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious power

²¹ Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope might be in God.

⁶ This is why it says in Scripture: “Look! I am laying a chosen, precious cornerstone in Zion. The one who believes in him will never be ashamed.”

¹⁶ They told the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the lamb. ¹⁷ For the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to endure it?”

⁹ Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying in a loud voice, “Whoever worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or his hand ¹⁰ will drink the wine of God’s wrath, which has been poured undiluted into the cup of his anger. He will be tortured with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the lamb. ¹¹ The smoke from their torture goes up forever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.”
