²² Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom:

³⁸ Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, Teacher, we would see a sign from thee. ³⁹ But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, and there shall no sign be given it but the sign of Jonah the prophet;

¹ And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and trying him asked him to show them a sign from heaven. ² But he answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather; for the heaven is red. ³ And in the morning, It will be foul weather to-day; for the heaven is red and lowering. Ye know how to discern the face of the heaven, but ye cannot discern the signs of the times. ⁴ An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet. And he left them, and departed.

¹¹ And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, trying him.

¹⁶ And others, trying him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

²⁰ But if I by the finger of God cast out demons, then is the kingdom of God come upon you.

¹⁸ The Jews therefore answered and said unto him, What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

²⁸ So the woman left her waterpot, and went away into the city, and saith to the people,

¹⁸ And certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods; because he preached Jesus and the resurrection. ¹⁹ And they took hold of him, and brought him unto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by thee? ²⁰ For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears; we would know therefore what these things mean. ²¹ (Now all the Athenians and the strangers sojourning there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.)
