¹ The elders among you I exhort, who am a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, who am also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: ² Tend the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not of constraint, but willingly, nor yet for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind, ³ neither as lording it over the charge allotted to you, but making yourselves ensamples to the flock. ⁴ And when the chief Shepherd shall be manifested, ye shall receive the crown of glory that fadeth not away. ⁵ Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another. Gird yourselves with humility, for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. ⁶ Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, ⁷ casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you. ⁸ Be sober, be watchful; your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour, ⁹ whom withstand stedfast in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world. ¹⁰ And may the God of all grace, who called us unto his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a little while, himself perfect you, established, strengthened, grounded. ¹¹ To him be the glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. ¹² By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I account him, I have written unto you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand. ¹³ She that is in Babylon, elect together with you, saluteth you, and so doth Mark my son. ¹⁴ Salute one another with a kiss of love. ¹⁹ And I know that the king of Egypt will not give you leave to go, except by a mighty hand.

³ And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him: 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before Me? let My people go, that they may serve Me.

¹¹ And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said: 'LORD, why doth Thy wrath wax hot against Thy people, that Thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?

⁶ And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed: 'The LORD, the LORD, God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth; ⁷ keeping mercy unto the thousandth generation, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and unto the fourth generation.'

³² Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and thou shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.

⁴¹ I also will walk contrary unto them, and bring them into the land of their enemies; if then perchance their uncircumcised heart be humbled, and they then be paid the punishment of their iniquity;

So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters; but David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

²⁹ 'Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before Me? because he humbleth himself before Me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.'

¹⁹ because thy heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spoke against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become an astonishment and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before Me, I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.

⁴¹ Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into Thy resting-place, Thou, and the ark of Thy strength; let Thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let Thy saints rejoice in good.

⁶ Then the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said: 'The LORD is righteous.' ⁷ And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying: 'They have humbled themselves; I will not destroy them; but I will grant them some deliverance, and My wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

¹² And when he humbled himself, the anger of the LORD turned from him, that He would not destroy him altogether; and moreover in Judah there were good things found.

¹¹ Nevertheless divers of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem.

²⁶ Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

¹² And when he was in distress, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.

¹ A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

¹³ If I had not believed to look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! - ¹⁴ Wait on the LORD; be strong, and let thy heart take courage; yea, wait thou for the LORD.

¹² Happy is the nation whose God is the LORD; the people whom He hath chosen for His own inheritance.

¹⁵ (34:16) The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry.

⁵ Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass.

²² (55:23) Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and He will sustain thee; He will never suffer the righteous to be moved.

¹² The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

²³ A man's pride shall bring him low; but he that is of a lowly spirit shall attain to honour.

⁸ If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock and feed thy kids, beside the shepherds' tents.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be brought low, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

²⁹ Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions, yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and carry it away safe, and there shall be none to deliver. ³⁰ And they shall roar against them in that day like the roaring of the sea; and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and distress, and the light is darkened in the skies thereof.

⁸ And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said: 'Here am I; send me.'

¹² How art thou fallen from heaven, O day-star, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, that didst cast lots over the nations! ¹³ And thou saidst in thy heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, above the stars of God will I exalt my throne, and I will sit upon the mount of meeting, in the uttermost parts of the north;

⁴ Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the rugged shall be made level, and the rough places a plain;

¹¹ Even as a shepherd that feedeth his flock, that gathereth the lambs in his arm, and carrieth them in his bosom, and gently leadeth those that give suck.

⁸ He is near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand up together; who is mine adversary? let him come near to me.

¹¹ Yea, the dogs are greedy, they know not when they have enough; and these are shepherds that cannot understand; they all turn to their own way, each one to his gain, one and all.

¹⁵ For thus saith the High and Lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

¹⁰ I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of victory, as a bridegroom putteth on a priestly diadem, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

¹¹ Then His people remembered the days of old, the days of Moses: 'Where is He that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of His flock? Where is He that put His holy spirit in the midst of them?

² For all these things hath My hand made, and so all these things came to be, saith the LORD; but on this man will I look, even on him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My word.

¹⁵ The young lions have roared upon him, and let their voice resound; and they have made his land desolate, his cities are laid waste, without inhabitant.

¹³ For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is greedy for gain; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

¹⁰ Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall possess them; for from the least even unto the greatest every one is greedy for gain, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

¹⁷ But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for your pride; and mine eyes shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD'S flock is carried away captive. ¹⁸ Say thou unto the king and to the queen-mother: 'Sit ye down low; for your headtires are come down, even your beautiful crown.'

²⁰ Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north; where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

¹⁰ They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in My law, nor in My statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.

³⁸ They shall roar together like young lions; they shall growl as lions' whelps.

²¹ And all his mighty men in all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward every wind; and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.

⁷ And he knew their castles, and laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, because of the noise of his roaring.

⁶ (21:11) Sigh therefore, thou son of man; with the breaking of thy loins and with bitterness shalt thou sigh before their eyes.

²⁵ There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls, they take treasure and precious things, they have made her widows many in the midst thereof.

² 'Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, even to the shepherds: Thus saith the Lord GOD: Woe unto the shepherds of Israel that have fed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the sheep? ³ Ye did eat the fat, and ye clothed you with the wool, ye killed the fatlings; but ye fed not the sheep. ⁴ The weak have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought back that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force have ye ruled over them and with rigour.

²³ And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even My servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd.

³¹ And ye My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord GOD.'

²⁴ And My servant David shall be king over them, and they all shall have one shepherd; they shall also walk in Mine ordinances, and observe My statutes, and do them.

²² And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thy heart, though thou knewest all this;

²⁴ (6:25) And the king commanded, and they brought those men that had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and they had not come to the bottom of the den, when the lions had the mastery of them, and broke all their bones in pieces.

³ And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn the many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

¹⁰ They shall walk after the LORD, who shall roar like a lion; for He shall roar, and the children shall come trembling from the west.

⁸ I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the enclosure of their heart; and there will I devour them like a lioness; the wild beast shall tear them.

¹⁶ (4:16) And the LORD shall roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth shall shake; but the LORD will be a refuge unto His people, and a stronghold to the children of Israel.

² And he said: The LORD roareth from Zion, and uttereth His voice from Jerusalem; and the pastures of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.

⁴ Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? Will a young lion give forth his voice out of his den, if he have taken nothing?

⁸ The lion hath roared, who will not fear? The Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

¹¹ The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money; yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say: 'Is not the LORD in the midst of us? No evil shall come upon us'?

⁴ (5:3) And he shall stand, and shall feed his flock in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide, for then shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

⁸ It hath been told thee, O man, what is good, and what the LORD doth require of thee: only to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.

¹⁴ Tend Thy people with Thy staff, the flock of Thy heritage, that dwell solitarily, as a forest in the midst of the fruitful field; let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old.

¹⁸ Who is a God like unto Thee, that pardoneth the iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He retaineth not His anger for ever, because He delighteth in mercy. ¹⁹ He will again have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

¹ And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.

⁶ And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them back, for I have compassion upon them, and they shall be as though I had not cast them off; for I am the LORD their God, and I will hear them.

¹² And I will strengthen them in the LORD; and they shall walk up and down in His name, saith the LORD.

³ Hark! the wailing of the shepherds, for their glory is spoiled; Hark! the roaring of young lions, for the thickets of the Jordan are spoiled.

¹⁷ Woe to the worthless shepherd that leaveth the flock! The sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye; his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

⁷ Awake, O sword, against My shepherd, and against the man that is near unto Me, saith the LORD of hosts; smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn My hand upon the little ones.

¹⁰ Oh that there were even one among you that would shut the doors, that ye might not kindle fire on Mine altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

¹ Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

¹¹ Then the devil leaveth him, and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

²⁵ Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, and what ye shall drink, nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment? ²⁶ Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they?

³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. ³⁴ Be not therefore anxious for the morrow; for the morrow will be anxious for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

³⁹ and the enemy that sowed them is the devil; and the harvest is the end of the world, and the reapers are angels.

²⁵ But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ²⁶ But it shall not be so among you; but whosoever would become great among you shall be your minister,

⁸ But be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your teacher, even Christ, and all ye are brethren. ⁹ And call no man your father on the earth; for one is your Father, even he who is in heaven. ¹⁰ Neither be ye called masters; for one is your master, even the Christ.

¹² And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.

⁴² Watch therefore; for ye know not in what hour your Lord cometh.

⁴⁸ But if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth to come, ⁴⁹ and shall begin to beat his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken, ⁵⁰ the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not,

³¹ But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory; ³² and before him shall be gathered all the nations; and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats, ³³ and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. ³⁴ Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; ³⁵ for I was hungry, and ye gave me to eat, I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink, I was a stranger, and ye took me in, ³⁶ naked, and ye clothed me, I was sick, and ye visited me, I was in prison, and ye came unto me. ³⁷ Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or athirst, and gave thee drink? ³⁸ And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? ³⁹ And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, even these least, ye did it unto me. ⁴¹ Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels;

³⁸ And he himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they awake him, and say unto him, Teacher, carest thou not that we perish?

⁴² But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they who are accounted to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ⁴³ But it is not so among you; but whosoever would become great among you, shall be your minister, ⁴⁴ and whosoever of you would be first, shall be servant of all. ⁴⁵ For the Son of man also came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

⁵² He hath put down princes from their thrones, And hath exalted them of low degree.

³ And the devil said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it become bread. ⁴ And Jesus answered unto him, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. ⁵ And the devil, leading him up into a high mountain, showed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. ⁶ And the devil said unto him, To thee will I give all this authority, and the glory of them; for it hath been delivered unto me, and to whomsoever I will I give it. ⁷ If thou therefore wilt worship before me, it shall all be thine. ⁸ And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan; it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. ⁹ And he led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: ¹⁰ for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, to guard thee: ¹¹ and, On their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone. ¹² And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God.

³⁰ For all these things do the nations of the world seek after; but your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. ³¹ Yet seek ye the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you. ³² Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

⁴⁵ But if that servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming, and shall begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken, ⁴⁶ the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the unfaithful.

¹¹ For every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

³⁴ But take heed to yourselves, lest haply your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day come on you suddenly as a snare;

²⁴ And there arose also a contention among them, which of them was accounted to be greatest. ²⁵ And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them, and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors. ²⁶ But ye shall not be so; but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger, and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. ²⁷ For which is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.

³¹ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat; ³² but I made supplication for thee, that thy faith fail not, and do thou, when once thou hast turned again, establish thy brethren.

⁴⁸ Ye are witnesses of these things.

⁸ But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

¹⁴ But even if ye should suffer for righteousness' sake, blessed are ye; and fear not their fear, neither be troubled,
