And David said unto the LORD: 'I have sinned greatly in what I have done; but now, O LORD, put away, I beseech Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.' ¹¹ And when David rose up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying: ¹² 'Go and speak unto David: Thus saith the LORD: I lay upon thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.' ¹³ So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him: 'Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thy foes while they pursue thee? or shall there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise thee, and consider what answer I shall return to Him that sent Me.' ¹⁴ And David said unto Gad: 'I am in a great strait; let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for His mercies are great; and let me not fall into the hand of man.' ¹⁵ So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men. ¹⁶ And when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented Him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people: 'It is enough; now stay thy hand.' And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite. ¹⁷ And David spoke unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said: 'Lo, I have sinned, and I have done iniquitously; but these sheep, what have they done? let Thy hand, I pray Thee, be against me, and against my father's house.' ¹⁸ And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him: 'Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.' ¹⁹ And David went up according to the saying of Gad, as the LORD commanded. ²⁰ And Araunah looked forth, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him; and Araunah went out, and bowed down before the king with his face to the ground. ²¹ And Araunah said: 'Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant?' And Araunah said unto the king: 'The LORD thy God accept thee.' ²⁴ And the king said unto Araunah: 'Nay; but I will verily buy it of thee at a price; neither will I offer burnt-offerings unto the LORD my God which cost me nothing.' So David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. ²⁵ And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. So the LORD was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.

¹⁹ Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out My fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast; ²⁰ though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness. ²¹ For thus saith the Lord GOD: How much more when I send My four sore judgments against Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the evil beasts, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast.

²⁵ Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and ordinances whereby they should not live;

⁴⁰ For in My holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them, serve Me in the land; there will I accept them, and there will I require your heave-offerings, and the first of your gifts, with all your holy things. ⁴¹ With your sweet savour will I accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you in the sight of the nations.

² 'Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, even to the shepherds: Thus saith the Lord GOD: Woe unto the shepherds of Israel that have fed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the sheep? ³ Ye did eat the fat, and ye clothed you with the wool, ye killed the fatlings; but ye fed not the sheep. ⁴ The weak have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought back that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force have ye ruled over them and with rigour. ⁵ So were they scattered, because there was no shepherd; and they became food to all the beasts of the field, and were scattered. ⁶ My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill, yea, upon all the face of the earth were My sheep scattered, and there was none that did search or seek.

²³ And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even My servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. ²⁴ And I the LORD will be their God, and My servant David prince among them; I the LORD have spoken.

¹³ As for the sacrifices that are made by fire unto Me, let them sacrifice flesh and eat it, for the LORD accepteth them not. Now will He remember their iniquity, and punish their sins; they shall return to Egypt.

² (14:3) Take with you words, and return unto the LORD; say unto Him: 'Forgive all iniquity, and accept that which is good; so will we render for bullocks the offering of our lips.

¹³ And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God; for He is gracious and compassionate, long-suffering, and abundant in mercy, and repenteth Him of the evil. ¹⁴ Who knoweth whether He will not turn and repent, and leave a blessing behind Him, even a meal-offering and a drink- offering unto the LORD your God?

³ The LORD repented concerning this; 'It shall not be', saith the LORD.

⁶ The LORD repented concerning this; 'This also shall not be', saith the Lord GOD.

² And he prayed unto the LORD, and said: 'I pray Thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in mine own country? Therefore I fled beforehand unto Tarshish; for I knew that Thou art a gracious God, and compassionate, long- suffering, and abundant in mercy, and repentest Thee of the evil.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy; though I am fallen, I shall arise; though I sit in darkness, the LORD is a light unto me. ⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against Him; until He plead my cause, and execute judgment for me; He will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold His righteousness.

¹⁸ Who is a God like unto Thee, that pardoneth the iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He retaineth not His anger for ever, because He delighteth in mercy.

² O LORD, I have heard the report of Thee, and am afraid; O LORD, revive Thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember compassion.

¹⁵ and I am very sore displeased with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, and they helped for evil.

⁷ And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his detestable things from between his teeth, and he also shall be a remnant for our God; and he shall be as a chief in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.

⁷ Awake, O sword, against My shepherd, and against the man that is near unto Me, saith the LORD of hosts; smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn My hand upon the little ones.

¹² But ye profane it, in that ye say: 'The table of the LORD is polluted, and the fruit thereof, even the food thereof, is contemptible.' ¹³ Ye say also: 'Behold, what a weariness is it!' and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye bring the offering; should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD. ¹⁴ But cursed be he that dealeth craftily, whereas he hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a blemished thing; for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and My name is feared among the nations.

⁷ For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in diverse places.

²² thefts, covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness;

⁴¹ And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest; it is enough, the hour is come, behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

²⁵ But of a truth I say unto you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land,

²⁹ On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world!

⁹ And they, when they heard it, being convicted by the conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the eldest, even unto the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman being in the midst.

¹¹ I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd layeth down his life for the sheep. ¹² He that is a hireling, and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, beholdeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth, and the wolf snatcheth them, and scattereth them;

²⁷ Now is my soul troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause came I unto this hour.

²⁸ to do whatsoever thy hand and thy council foreordained to come to pass.

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered and said, We must obey God rather than men.

²³ And immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not glory to God; and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

¹⁷ Render to no man evil for evil. Take thought for things honorable in the sight of all men.

³⁰ Now I beseech you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, ³¹ that I may be delivered from them that are disobedient in Judea, and that my ministration which I have for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints,

⁶ Sufficient to such a one is this punishment which was inflicted by the many,

⁷ And by reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted overmuch, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, that I should not be exalted overmuch.

²³ But I am in a strait betwixt the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for it is very far better:

¹¹ And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie:

¹ I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men, ² for kings and all that are in high place, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity.

³ For we also once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.

⁸ By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out unto the place which he was to receive for an inheritance, and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

⁶ For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. ⁷ It is for chastening that ye endure, God dealeth with you as with sons, for what son is there whom his father chasteneth not? ⁸ But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence; shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? ¹⁰ For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them, but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.

¹³ Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God, for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man: ¹⁴ but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.

⁵ ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

²⁴ who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness, by whose stripes ye were healed. ²⁵ For ye were going astray like sheep, but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

²⁰ because if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness toward God,

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.

⁸ And behold, a pale horse; and he that sat upon him, his name was Death, and Hades followed him. And there was given unto them authority over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with famine, and with death, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
