³⁶ And Sarah my master's wife bore a son to my master when she was old; and unto him hath he given all that he hath.

²⁹ And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. ³⁰ And Sarai was barren; she had no child.

¹⁵ And God said unto Abraham: 'As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. ¹⁶ And I will bless her, and moreover I will give thee a son of her; yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples shall be of her.' ¹⁷ Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart: 'Shall a child be born unto him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?' ¹⁸ And Abraham said unto God: 'Oh that Ishmael might live before Thee!' ¹⁹ And God said: "Nay, but Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him.

¹⁰ And He said: 'I will certainly return unto thee when the season cometh round; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son.' And Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him. - ¹¹ Now Abraham and Sarah were old, and well stricken in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. - ¹² And Sarah laughed within herself, saying: 'After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?' ¹³ And the LORD said unto Abraham: 'Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying: Shall I of a surety bear a child, who am old? ¹⁴ Is any thing too hard for the LORD. At the set time I will return unto thee, when the season cometh round, and Sarah shall have a son.'

¹ And the LORD remembered Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as He had spoken. ² And Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. ³ And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac. ⁴ And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. ⁵ And Abraham was a hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him. ⁶ And Sarah said: 'God hath made laughter for me; every one that heareth will laugh on account of me.' ⁷ And she said: 'Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should give children suck? for I have borne him a son in his old age.'

¹⁰ Wherefore she said unto Abraham: 'Cast out this bondwoman and her son; for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.'

⁵ And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.

¹⁹ And without being weakened in faith, he considered not his own body, now as good as dead (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb,
