²⁰ And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were bound; and he was there in the prison.

¹ And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord the king of Egypt. ² And Pharaoh was wroth against his two officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers. ³ And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.

¹⁵ For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews; and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.'

⁹ Then spoke the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying: 'I make mention of my faults this day: ¹⁰ Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in the ward of the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker. ¹¹ And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream. ¹² And there was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret. ¹³ And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was: I was restored unto mine office, and he was hanged.' ¹⁴ Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. And he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.

¹⁰ (76:11) Surely the wrath of man shall praise Thee; the residue of wrath shalt Thou gird upon Thee.

¹⁸ His feet they hurt with fetters, his person was laid in iron; ¹⁹ Until the time that his word came to pass, the word of the LORD tested him.

⁸ By oppression and judgment he was taken away, and with his generation who did reason? for he was cut off out of the land of the living, for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due.

²¹ Then these men were bound in their cloaks, their tunics, and their robes, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ²² Therefore because the king's commandment was peremptory, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego.

⁹ wherein I suffer hardship unto bonds, as a malefactor, but the word of God is not bound.

¹⁹ For this is acceptable, if for conscience toward God a man endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully.
