²⁰ And Noah the husbandman began, and planted a vineyard.

¹⁸ Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field. ¹⁹ In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken; for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.'

²³ Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

² And again she bore his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

²⁹ And he called his name Noah, saying: 'This same shall comfort us in our work and in the toil of our hands, which cometh from the ground which the LORD hath cursed.'

⁶ And what man is there that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not used the fruit thereof? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man use the fruit thereof.

³⁰ Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her; thou shalt build a house, and thou shalt not dwell therein; thou shalt plant a vineyard, and shalt not use the fruit thereof.

¹¹ He that tilleth his ground shall have plenty of bread; but he that followeth after vain things is void of understanding.

³⁰ I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

⁹ (5:8) But the profit of a land every way is a king that maketh himself servant to the field.

⁶ Look not upon me, that I am swarthy, that the sun hath tanned me; my mother's sons were incensed against me, they made me keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.'

²⁴ Is the plowman never done with plowing to sow, with the opening and harrowing of his ground? ²⁵ When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the black cummin, and scatter the cummin, and put in the wheat in rows and the barley in the appointed place and the spelt in the border thereof? ²⁶ For He doth instruct him aright; his God doth teach him.

⁷ What soldier ever serveth at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not the fruit thereof? Or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
