¹³ Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the peoples labour for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?

⁶ And the LORD said: 'Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do; and now nothing will be withholden from them, which they purpose to do. ⁷ Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.' ⁸ So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth; and they left off to build the city. ⁹ Therefore was the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth; and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

³¹ And one told David, saying: 'Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.' And David said: 'O LORD, I pray Thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.'

¹³ He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong. ¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day-time, and grope at noonday as in the night.

² Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your gain for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto Me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

⁵⁸ Thus saith the LORD of hosts: The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labour for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they shall be weary.

⁶⁴ and thou shalt say: Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again because of the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary.' Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

⁴ Whereas Edom saith: 'We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places'; thus saith the LORD of hosts: They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called The border of wickedness, and The people whom the LORD execrateth for ever.
